We have been much luckier with the outcome of dogs chasing things. One was hit by a car and made it home on his own. After a trip to the vet, he lived for quite a few more years. The others merely needed baths after their chases ended with skunk warfare or the dog being distracted by cow patties. (Fortunately, neither stray mule and bull connected with full force on any kick.) Cindy Wells (I've been knocked down by one of those bulls. It was clearly pulling the "punch" when it decided it was done with my attempt to herd it back through the hole in the fence.)
