I've been getting a monthly box of traditional tea snacks from Tokyo from Sakuraco. I first heard of it from John Scalzi's blog, where his daughter Athena was doing monthly reviews of her boxen from them. I was intrigued, so I had hubby read the reviews and look at the site, and we signed up for three months. It's over a year now that we've been getting the snacks, and we love them. They're not as sugar-laden as American snacks. This is good for a type 2 diabetic like me. I'm finding all sorts of flavors new to me that I like. This led to me finding one of the digital channels of KCET, which has NHK-World, all Japan, all the time, in English or subtitled. There are culture shows, language lessons, news (local & world), and even craft shows. I like the challenge of learning new things. Being housebound has the potential to bore me to tears and depress me. If I'm mentally stimulated it's not so bad. Whenever I was in the hospital and nursing home, the staff fairly drooled over my naptop and the Logitech trackball. It's an HP Omen. Yup, a gaming computer. I have word games, comics, and the Sakuraco and affiliated sites, as well as the NHK site to keep me occupied. All of the facilities I've been in so far have Spectrum cable packages. The channel numbering system is weird. They have to give the patients a sheet with all the channels, and they aren't always accurate, up-to-date, or complete. I had been known to go through and update the sheets when I was waiting for something to come on the TV. Time to go back to noshing on my wagashi I got today. Then I go for my second walk of the day. Late tonight, I try my CPAP for the first time. Prayers/GoodThoughts/et cetera would be much appreciated. The thing scares me. I couldn't tolerate it the last time they tried it, back in April when I was in the hospital for my heart attack, sepsis, blah blah blah. Monroe will probably comfort me, if he gets out of his Grandpa's bed. -- Freyja the NurseWench http://freyjaw.dreamwidth.org Twitter: @FreyjaRN @DuchessHonor It’s a well known fact that the coconut isn’t actually a nut. They are covered in hair and contain milk, so coconuts are technically mammals. -Tony Cowards
