 Brian: Not a silly question at all! You can use any PC or Mac to download =
the recovery image and burn it to a CD, actually. The version of Windows on=
 the PC you download and burn on is of no consequence.

The CD ROM on my laptop is fried and therefore I tried installing Ubuntu ag=
ain using a USB install. However, the version Ubuntu 9.10 justs hangs in th=
e load screen and does nothing. I do not have windows Vista Recovery CD (as=
 it was a recovery partition in my laptop).

ger software for Windows Vista 32 bit system and try to install all the sof=
tware from these recovery media and reset it to the factory condition?

When I download the drivers, not all of them are available there, e. g. the=
 original laptop came with quickplay software (for viewing the videos) and =
it is not available there. There are drivers only for quickplay buttons. Al=
so based on these drivers we cannot create a recovery partition in the syst=
em and use it to refresh the system (instead of using the disks everytime).=
 Also the HP Recovery software is not there in the download drivers page an=
d I think the Original HP media I have cannot be used without it.

Alternatively, you can create a recovery cd from your machine by using the =
method found here : "RECDISC.EXE how to create a recovery/repair cd". This =
method required a Vista cd, which you might not have. In the past Vista was=
 available from Microsoft for trial download, and is still available from h=
ere.

 account. And if you change the name or password before, you cannot login b=
