ALF has a huge appetite. ALF is sarcastic, cynical and troublesome and some=
times due to his pranks, he almost makes his alien presence know due to it.=
When he makes a big mess due to his trouble causing nature, he tries to fi=
x it with positive outcomes most of the times. ALF comes from a large famil=
y and is a Carolina Panther fan. This show was produced by Alien Production=
s. This series ran for four seasons with a total of 99 episodes. It also ha=
d three one-hour episodes which make a total of 102 episodes.

Alfred James "Alf" Stewart is a fictional character from the Australian soa=
p opera Home and Away, played by Ray Meagher. Alf was created as one of the=
show's eighteen original characters. Meagher auditioned for the role of To=
m Fletcher, before being cast as Alf. He made his first appearance during t=
he pilot episode broadcast on 17 January 1988. As of 2017, Meagher is the s=
ole remaining original cast member and he holds a Guinness World Record for=
being the longest-serving actor in an Australian serial. For his portrayal=
of Alf, Meagher won the Gold Logie Award for Most Popular Personality on A=
ustralian Television in 2010.

On 17 January 2023, Home and Away celebrated its 35th anniversary and Meagh=
er, the only original cast member still in the show, announced that he had =
signed a new five-year contract.[12] He admitted that "the people" was the =
reason he had remained with the serial for so long, explaining "We've got a=
wonderful crew and some of them have nearly been there as long as me. We h=
ave some wonderful actors who are now in the 10, 15 and 20 year bracket, an=
d by and large I've thoroughly enjoyed my time on the show."[12] Meagher re=
vealed that his new contract allowed him to work less weeks and give him so=
me extra time, but he made it clear that it was not leading to his retireme=
nt.[12]

Alf has shown a keen interest in business. Whilst serving on the Surf Club =
Committee, he also works as a bartender. He also owns a bait shop and takes=
part in recreational fishing.[14] Meagher often changes dialogue to suit A=
lf's speech.[9]

Alf first appears in the pilot episode of the show, in which he sells the S=
ummer Bay Caravan Park to Tom and Pippa Fletcher, unable to cope with livin=
g there following the death of his wife, Martha, three years earlier. By no=
w Alf is involved in a relationship with general store owner Ailsa, who he =
marries in 1988, despite the disapproval of his daughter Ruth (Roo) and the=
revelation that Ailsa was convicted of the murder of her abusive father.

In 2010, a video featuring a parody version of the character was created an=
d posted online by an artist known as "Mr Doodleburger". The parody showed =
a dark and sinister parallel universe/alternate version of the character, w=
ho would routinely torture people and kept a variety of characters from thi=
s parallel version of Home and Away in his "rape dungeon".[20][21][22]

The episode featuring Alf's breakdown following the suicide of an army mate=
, Jeff Marshall, who served with him in Vietnam, won the 1998 Australian Fi=
lm Institute Award for Best Episode in a Television Drama Serial and was pr=
esented to director Russell Webb.[34] The episode featuring Alf's late wife=
Ailsa showing him a vision of Summer Bay without him won the 2003 Australi=
an Writers' Guild Award for Best Episode in a Television Serial. It was pre=
sented to the episode's writer Coral Drouyn.[35]

Yahoo!7 opined he had become "a TV icon" for using his catchphrases such as=
"flamin'" and "strewth".[14] In Catherine Deveny's book "It's not my fault=
they print them" she joked that she was distressed after watching three ep=
isodes of Home and Away and not hearing Alf say "flaming mongrels".[39] Vir=
gin Media have also agreed he is "lover of stereotypical Aussie slang", sta=
ting "Stone the flamin' crows!" has been one of his typical lines. They add=
ed that their favourite was "Yer flamin' great galah!"[40] They also said "=
There's no doubt Alf is loved, despite being a bit of a rogue with a finger=
in every pie."[40] They went on to describe him as the "godfather of Summe=
r Bay" and "Grumpy but kind and good natured."[40] Geoff Mayer, Brian McFla=
rne and Ina Bertrand said in their book "The Oxford companion to Australian=
film" that Meagher's roles have epitomised the rough-hewn, knockabout Aust=
ralian character. They said he portrays the persona in Alf and brands him a=
 popular character.[41]

The franchise based on his writings was very successful. In addition to the=
books, there have been several television and film adaptations of Wight's =
books, including the 1975 film All Creatures Great and Small; a BBC televis=
ion series of the same name, which ran 90 episodes; and a 2020 UK Channel 5=
series, also of the same name.[2]

In 2010, the BBC commissioned the three-part drama Young James Herriot, ins=
pired by Wight's early life and studies in Scotland. The series drew on arc=
hives and the diaries and case notes which Wight kept during his student da=
ys in Glasgow, as well as the biography written by his son.[32] The first e=
pisode was shown on BBC One on 18 December 2011, and drew six million viewe=
rs. The BBC announced in April 2012 that the series would not return.[33] A=
book titled Young James Herriot was written by historian and author John L=
ewis-Stempel to accompany the series.[34]

A new production of All Creatures Great and Small was produced by Playgroun=
d Entertainment for Channel 5 in the United Kingdom, and PBS in the United =
States.[35] The production received some funding from Screen Yorkshire.[36]=
Most of the filming was completed in the Yorkshire Dales, including many e=
xteriors in Grassington as the setting for the fictional town of Darrowby.[=
37] The first series, of six episodes and a special Christmas episode, prem=
iered in the UK on Channel 5 on 1 September 2020 and in the US on PBS as pa=
rt of Masterpiece on 10 January 2021. All Creatures Great and Small was ren=
ewed for a second series, also of six episodes plus a Christmas special.[38=

Housing-related health concerns include asthma episodes triggered by exposu=
re to dust mites, cockroaches, pets, and rodents. The existence of cockroac=
hes, rats, and mice mean that they can also be vectors for significant prob=
lems that affect health and well-being. They are capable of transmitting di=
seases to humans. According to a 1997 American Housing Survey, rats and mic=
e infested 2.7 million of 97 million housing units. A CDC-sponsored survey =
of two major American cities documented that nearly 50% of the premises wer=
e infected with rats and mice.
This chapter deals with disease vectors and pests as factors related to the=
 health of households.

MPMH [2], notes that fleas undergo complete metamorphosis (egg, larva, pupa=
, and adult). The time it takes to complete the life cycle from egg to adul=
t varies according to the species, temperature, humidity, and food availabi=
lity. Under favorable conditions, some species can complete a generation in=
as little as 2 or 3 weeks. Figure 4.15 shows the life cycle of the flea.

The urban dweller with a RIFA infestation may find significant damage to la=
ndscape plants, with reductions in the number of wild birds and mammals. RI=
FAs can discourage outdoor activities and be a threat to young animals or s=
mall confined pets. RIFA nests typically are not found indoors, but around =
homes, roadways, and structures, as well as under sidewalks. Shifting of so=
il after RIFAs abandon sites has resulted in collapsing structures. Figure =
4.27 shows a fire ant mound with fire ants and a measure of their relative =
size.
