PaintShop Pro (PSP) is a raster and vector graphics editor for Microsoft Wi=
ndows. It was originally published by Jasc Software. In October 2004, Corel=
 purchased Jasc Software and the distribution rights to PaintShop Pro. PSP =
functionality can be extended by Photoshop-compatible plugins.

Originally called simply Paint Shop, the first version, 1.0, was a basic pi=
cture converter between BMP, GIF and PCX formats, conceived by Robert Voit =
[3][4] and developed by Joel DeRider. It was released by Robert Voit in Aug=
ust 1990. Paint Shop was originally distributed as shareware and is still a=
vailable at many download sites (4.12 being a popular version). Most newer =
versions are only commercially available although some have been distribute=
d in the United Kingdom in computer magazine CDs after they became obsolete=

From 2006 to 2011 (versions XI to X3), PaintShop Pro was marketed as "Corel=
 Paint Shop Pro Photo". Having dropped the "Photo" part of the name in vers=

Corel PaintShop Pro X7 (for PC only) is a solid choice for families whose m=
embers have varying levels of skill, as well as for advanced hobbyists who =
want to do some serious photo editing and image manipulation, with guidance=
. In the past, we've been very impressed with how well PaintShop Pro measur=
es up to its direct competitor, Photoshop Elements ($100). However, while t=
he latest iteration has a few nice additions, such as a purpose-oriented Ne=
w Image dialog, the interface has some counterintuitive aspects, such as th=
e lack of an Undo feature in the Manage module. What's more, the program do=
esn't support video files (as Photoshop Elements 13 does) or create movies.



After you install and register PaintShop Pro X7, you have the option to als=
o download and install the KPT Collection of 24 special-effects plugins, a =

PaintShop Pro supports a large number of image file formats, including the =
popular JPEG, TIFF and even RAW. While all but the RAW are directly and imm=
ediately accessible, the nature of RAW is that it must be first converted i=
nto a editable photo. With PaintShop Pro, that is done in the Camera RAW La=
b window. But working with RAW files in PaintShop Pro is counterintuitive, =
unlike working on RAW files with Photoshop Elements. Double-clicking the th=
umbnail of a RAW image displayed in the PaintShop Pro Manage interface does=
n't bring up the Camera RAW Lab. Instead, you have to use the File/Open com=
mand or drag a thumbnail of a RAW file from the organizer into the Edit wor=
kspace.

Like Photoshop Elements' Expert mode, Paintshop Pro's Edit mode offers more=
-advanced options for customizing and editing pictures, such as Layers, Sel=
ection tools, and brushes for limiting edits to specific areas of a picture=
. It can also open more than one picture at a time.

Other additions and improvements include the ability to drag a layer from o=
ne image to another (rather than having to select it, copy and paste), thou=
gh this didn't always work during our tests. A new Magic Fill feature (like=
 Photoshop's Content-Aware Fill/Erase) removes objects from a picture, such=
 as telephone wires or an unwanted person. The Shape and Text Cutouts tool =
automatically fills a graphic shape or text with an underlying image.

Generally speaking, the more colours you use, the better the image quality,=
 but lots of colours mean a big file size, which will make your website ver=
y slow to download. Reduce the number of colours as much as you can, withou=
t letting your image lose too much quality.

Firesteel: Not that old of a problem, having amost a similiar problem, but =
not with Windows 7. Cannot reinstall a copy of PSP X11 in either XP or Vist=
a from an online download. Copied the exe file to a CD, and keep getting a =
message similiar to the above, BUT THAT THERE IS A MISSING CAB FILE. I've b=
een to the Corel support site and they want a $15.00 service charge to let =
you download another PSPX11. Cold day in ____ before that happens. I'm goin=
