Anyone can question anything.  That's enough with many meanings of the
word, to make it 'questionable', but their doubts were not and are not
enough to make the commanders of the military question it, and when you
join the military, you agree to let the higher ranking officers make the
decisions.  If you  won't obey your commanding officers, you either
resign or get court-martialed.  You should be happy they don't have
dishonorable discharges, which would hurt their job prospects.
