The name for God in the Old Testament is YHWH, not "Jehovah". The New
Testament writers, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, used the
term kyrios ("Lᴏʀᴅ") to translate the Old Testament references to YHWH.
So Satan's Witnesses and their heresy Bible get it wrong when they claim
the correct translation for God is "Jehovah", and criticize those who
follow the Apostle's inspired example to use Kyrios "Lᴏʀᴅ" for YHWH.

Next, Jesus Christ IS YHWH. Satan's Witnesses deny this. That's why
they're actually Satan's Witness, rather than YHWH (Yahweh's) witnesses.
The inspired Apostles used "Kyrios" (Lᴏʀᴅ) to translate YHWH God's name,
and they applied passages that speak of YHWH (Lᴏʀᴅ) to Jesus Christ:

The Title Kyrios Applied to Jesus Christ

Chapter 1: Jesus Christ is Yahweh (Kyrios)

The name "Yahweh" (YHWH) is the sacred, incommunicable name of the one
true God in the Old Testament. When the Hebrew Scriptures were
translated into Greek, the translators rendered this divine name as
Kyrios ("Lord"). The inspired writers of the New Testament, writing in
Greek, deliberately and systematically took Old Testament passages that
speak of Yahweh under the name of Kyrios and applied them directly to
Jesus Christ.

By applying the name Kyrios to Jesus in this specific way, they
identified Him with Yahweh.

I. Old Testament Passages Concerning Yahweh Applied to Jesus Christ

(1) Romans 10:9, 13—“...because, if you confess with your mouth that
Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the
dead, you will be saved... For 'everyone who calls on the name of the
Lord will be saved.'” (Romans 10:9, 13 ESV)

Compare Joel 2:32—“And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on
the name of the LORD shall be saved.” (Joel 2:32 ESV)

The Lord on Whom We Must Call For Salvation is Jesus Christ.

In Joel 2:32, the one on whom the believer must call for salvation is
"the LORD" (Yahweh). In Romans 10, the inspired apostle Paul quotes this
identical promise and applies it directly to Jesus Christ. To be saved,
one must confess with their mouth that "Jesus is Lord" (Kyrios), which
is the very name used for Yahweh in the Greek translation of Joel.

(2) Philippians 2:10–11—“so that at the name of of Jesus every knee
should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
(Philippians 2:10–11 ESV)

Compare Isaiah 45:21–23—“And there is no other god besides me, a
righteous God and a Savior; there is none besides me. Turn to me and be
saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.
By myself I have sworn; from my mouth has gone out in righteousness a
word that shall not return: 'To me every knee shall bow, every tongue
shall swear allegiance.'” (Isaiah 45:21–23 ESV)

The One Before Whom Every Knee Must Bow and Every Tongue Confess is
Jesus Christ.

In Isaiah 45, it is Yahweh ("I am God, and there is no other") who
swears by Himself that every knee shall bow and every tongue shall swear
allegiance to Him. In Philippians 2, the Holy Spirit reveals that this
supreme, exclusive divine honor is paid to Jesus Christ, and that every
tongue must confess that "Jesus Christ is Lord" (Kyrios).

(3) Hebrews 1:10–12—“And, 'You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth
in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; they will
perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment, like a
robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you
are the same, and your years will have no end.'” (Hebrews 1:10–12 ESV)

Compare Psalm 102:24–27—“I say, 'O my God, take me not away in the midst
of my days—you whose years endure throughout all generations!' Of old
you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of
your hands. They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear
out like a garment. You change them like a robe, and they pass away, but
you are the same, and your years have no end.” (Psalm 102:24–27 ESV)

The Unchangeable Creator, Yahweh, is Jesus Christ.

Psalm 102 is a prayer directed to the Almighty God (Yahweh). The writer
of the Epistle to the Hebrews quotes this prayer to God and explicitly
states that it is addressed to the Son, Jesus Christ. The Father calls
the Son "Lord" (Kyrios), attributes the creation of the heavens and
earth to Him, and declares His absolute immutability.

(4) 1 Peter 3:14–15—“But even if you should suffer for righteousness'
sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in
your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy...” (1 Peter 3:14–15 ESV)

Compare Isaiah 8:12–13—“Do not call conspiracy all that this people
calls conspiracy, and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. But
the LORD of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear,
and let him be your dread.” (Isaiah 8:12–13 ESV)

The Lord of Hosts Whom We Must Honor as Holy is Jesus Christ.

In Isaiah 8, the prophet commands Israel to honor "the LORD of hosts"
(Yahweh of hosts) as holy, and to make Him their fear and dread. In 1
Peter, the apostle quotes this warning but substitutes "the LORD of
hosts" with "Christ the Lord" (Kyrios), commanding believers to honor
Christ in their hearts as holy.

(5) Matthew 3:3—“For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah
when he said, 'The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the
way of the Lord; make his paths straight.'” (Matthew 3:3 ESV)

Compare Isaiah 40:3—“A voice cries: 'In the wilderness prepare the way
of the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.'”
(Isaiah 40:3 ESV)

The Lord Whose Way John the Baptist Prepared is Jesus Christ.

Isaiah prophesied that a voice would cry in the wilderness to prepare
the way of "the LORD" (Yahweh). Matthew tells us that John the Baptist
is that voice, and that the "Lord" (Kyrios) whose way he prepared is
Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Lord and the God of Isaiah's prophecy.

(6) John 12:39–41—“Therefore they could not believe. For again Isaiah
said, 'He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see
with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I should
heal them.' Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory and spoke
of him.” (John 12:39–41 ESV)

Compare Isaiah 6:1, 3, 10—“In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the
Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his
robe filled the temple... And one called to another and said: 'Holy,
holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his
glory!'... Make the heart of this people dull, and their ears heavy, and
blind their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their
ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.” (Isaiah
6:1, 3, 10 ESV)

The Lord of Hosts Whose Glory Isaiah Saw in the Temple is Jesus Christ.

In Isaiah 6, the prophet records his vision of "the Lord" (Kyrios /
Yahweh) sitting upon a throne, and hears the angels crying, "Holy, holy,
holy is the LORD of hosts." In John 12, after quoting this very chapter,
the apostle John states that Isaiah said these things because he saw the
glory of Jesus Christ and spoke of Him. The glory of Yahweh and the
glory of Jesus are one and the same.

(7) 1 Corinthians 2:16—“'For who has understood the mind of the Lord so
as to instruct him?' But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians
2:16 ESV)

Compare Isaiah 40:13—“Who has measured the Spirit of the LORD, or what
man shows him his counsel?” (Isaiah 40:13 ESV)

The Lord Whose Mind is Incomprehensible to Mortals is Jesus Christ.

Isaiah asks who has understood the mind of "the LORD" (Yahweh) to
instruct Him. Paul quotes this passage using Kyrios for Yahweh, and
immediately adds, "But we have the mind of Christ," identifying the mind
of Christ as the very mind of Yahweh.

(8) 1 Peter 2:3–4—“if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. As
you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God
chosen and precious...” (1 Peter 2:3–4 ESV)

Compare Psalm 34:8—“Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is
the man who takes refuge in him!” (Psalm 34:8 ESV)

The Good Lord Whom We Must Taste and See is Jesus Christ.

The Psalmist invites Israel to taste and see that "the LORD" (Yahweh) is
good. Peter quotes this invitation and applies it directly to the
readers' experience of coming to Jesus Christ, the "living stone."

II. Propositions and Conclusion

First Proposition: The inspired writers of the New Testament repeatedly,
systematically, and deliberately quoted Old Testament passages
concerning YHWH (Yahweh) and applied them directly to Jesus Christ under
the Greek title Kyrios (Lord).

Second Proposition: By taking Scriptures that describe the attributes,
actions, praise, and exclusive worship due to Yahweh, and applying them
directly to Jesus Christ, the New Testament writers identified Jesus
Christ as Yahweh manifest in the flesh.

Conclusion: The title "Lord" (Kyrios) when applied to Jesus Christ in
the New Testament is not merely a title of human respect or ruling
authority. It is the New Testament equivalent of the divine name Yahweh.
To confess that "Jesus is Lord" is to confess that Jesus is Yahweh, the
one true God of the Scriptures.

Good News †

The sacrificial death of Christ paid the penalty for our sins in full
(Colossians 2:14), as demonstrated when God raised Him from the dead
(Romans 1:4). This allows a righteous God to forgive our transgressions
(Romans 3:26) and preserve us from the coming day of wrath (1
Thessalonians 1:10). Eternal life is a free gift for everyone who trusts
in Jesus (Romans 6:23). Believe the gospel and cry out to the Lord for
deliverance (Romans 10:9-13):
