Psalm 9: How does it apply to the church (POSB)?

The POSB emphasizes that Psalm 9 teaches believers the power of exalting 
God for who He is and for what He has done[1]. This application centers 
on three interconnected practices for the church.

*Wholehearted Engagement in Praise.* Nothing less than whole-hearted 
praise is worthy of the LORD[1]. David erupts in wholehearted praise to 
the LORD even while in the midst of battling fierce enemies, enemies 
that had dragged him to the door of death[1]. The POSB applies this by 
calling the church to model David’s example—engaging the mind fully in 
worship rather than offering superficial or distracted devotion.

*Trust in God’s Protection Amid Opposition.* Psalms teaches how to trust 
God when facing opposition and enemies[1], and Psalm 9 exemplifies this. 
The LORD supernaturally protects those who fear Him, dispatching His 
powerful angelic messengers to surround them[1]. When believers 
encounter adversity, they should earnestly seek the LORD asking Him to 
show what to do, boldly do as He directs depending on His power and 
guidance, and take their eyes off the magnitude of their problem and fix 
them on the LORD who is greater than their crisis[1].

*Confidence in God’s Ultimate Justice.* The answer to the frustrating 
question of God’s silence and delayed justice is not an explanation, but 
an exhortation: have faith in God, remind yourself of His character and 
His promises, review history and see where He has moved according to His 
schedule, and recognize that in His own time He has intervened and 
destroyed evildoers[1].
