What does it mean to commit the unpardonable sin of blaspheming the Holy 
Spirit, and how does one resist His work today? Is the Christian

Blaspheming the Holy Spirit

Ascribing Jesus' healing power to Satan slanders the Spirit, reflecting 
a hardened posture that rejects the Spirit's testimony regarding Christ. 
This sin persists today as the deliberate, final rejection of Jesus as 
the only way to the Father.

Resisting the Holy Spirit

Stephen identified resisting the Spirit as Israel's historical rejection 
of God's Word through the promises, the Law, the prophets, Christ, and 
the apostolic witness. Resisting the Spirit today occurs through 
rejecting the inspired Word of God, along with its faithful 
interpretation and application.

Praying to the Holy Spirit

Because God is the Holy Trinity, prayer to the Spirit is permissible, 
but Scripture offers neither explicit command nor precedent establishing 
an obligation. Prayer is normally directed to the Father, through Christ 
the mediator, enabled by the Holy Spirit.

Quenching the Holy Spirit

Quenching the Spirit pertains primarily to congregational life and 
occurs when believers ignore the convicting voice of God's preached or 
read Word, or oppose ministries that confront sin. This openness 
requires sober discernment rather than naive acceptance of every claim 
to the Spirit.

Grieving the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity and can be grieved. 
Grieving the Spirit occurs when there is a contradiction between 
professed biblical truth and actual conduct, particularly in ungodly 
interpersonal conduct and relational breakdown within the local assembly.

Being Filled with the Holy Spirit

The biblical command to be filled with the Spirit is addressed primarily 
to the corporate body rather than the isolated individual. A 
Spirit-filled congregation functions as the temple of the living God, 
characterized by reverence, mutual submission, corporate worship, and 
gratitude.
