What's the Worst Translation of the Bible (Claude)

Among translations that actually claim to be Bible translations, two 
names come up most often in serious critique:

The New World Translation (NWT) — produced by the Jehovah's Witnesses' 
Watchtower organization — is probably the most frequently cited by 
mainstream scholars (including non-fundamentalist ones) as the worst on 
accuracy grounds. Its committee's identities were kept anonymous, and 
the translation contains a number of renderings that conveniently 
support Watchtower doctrine rather than the grammar of the source text.

The most famous example is John 1:1, rendered "the Word was a god" 
instead of "the Word was God" — a move virtually no Greek scholar 
outside the Watchtower defends, since Greek doesn't require or even 
suggest the indefinite article there. Similarly, Colossians 1:16-17 
inserts the word "other" (Christ created "all other things") nowhere 
present in the Greek, smoothing over a text that otherwise makes Christ 
eternal and uncreated. The pattern — doctrine driving translation 
choices rather than the reverse — is what draws the harshest criticism.
