This is an article about Cypress Cove a week before this latest
scandal broke.

They named their new bar Scuttlebutts.

#That's a really cool name!

I wonder if the government is going to keep the name when they own
it. Because now doesn't current law say if someone is growing pot on
your property the government can take said property.

#Uuhhhhh what the hell?

Cypress Cove is going to go broke now just with all the lawyers they
are going to have to have for the legal troubles it now faces.

Well, back to this article, why is it that nudists feel compelled to
name practically everything after their behinds?

Buy beer in the buff at Scuttlebutts, Cheeks

There is definitely a theme running when a resort calls the two bars
on the property Scuttlebutts and Cheeks. And it made total sense to me
after visiting them last week at the Cypress Cove Nudist Resort & Spa.

You read correctly; the bars are in a nudist resort. Makes sense now,
right?

Although I've known about Cypress Cove for years, I had never been to
the resort. When I received an e-mail inviting me to check out their
new bar Scuttlebutts, which opened a couple of months ago, I thought
this was an opportune time to experience something new. And when
there's beer to boot I'm always game.

Owner Dean Hadley gave me a tour of the two bars — and before you
start letting your imaginations run wild, we were both clothed. It was
raining, and that would have been a bit chilly once inside the air
conditioning. Besides, Cypress Cove is clothing optional — just
because it's a nudist resort doesn't mean you have to be naked all of
the time in order to be there. It's encouraged but not required.

Scuttlebutts is the former "lounge" part of the Lakeside Restaurant
and Lounge at the resort. A beach theme and a fun name have now
separated the bar from the beautiful dining space it's attached to.

Before I go any further, I will admit, I was a bit nervous. How would
I react when I saw folks hanging out in a bar naked? I'm extremely
open-minded and laid back (you have to be with this job) but this
would definitely test my comfort zone.

When we first walked into the bar, it was a bit odd to see a couple of
naked men sitting at one of the many tables in the space playing
Cribbage. But with some help from Yuengling, the extremely friendly
bartender Kelly (she agreed it's a great name) and Hadley's genuine
hospitality, any uneasiness quickly dissipated.

The prices put me at ease as well, with $2.50-$3.50 domestics. The
resort even has its own beer called Bare Buns, essentially a rebranded
Budweiser product. On most nights there is some sort of event or theme
going on, with live music on the weekends and bar trivia. Karaoke is
hosted once a month and every Thursday is "Nude Night" — if you dine
at the restaurant in the nude, Scuttlebutts will give you a free glass
of wine.

The name, which is literally the watering hole sailors drink from on a
sailing ship, was submitted by four people in a contest to name the
bar. The first one that submitted the winning name won a $100 bar tab.

Because Scuttlebutts shares the same hours as the Lakeside Restaurant,
it closes at 9 p.m. Cheeks, the second bar on the property, operates
on a later schedule, so after we finished our beers we decided to grab
another one over there.

Cheeks was built back in the mid-'90s and is between the two pools on
the property. It has a large enclosed pool bar with screen doors
lining the perimeter, allowing a nice breeze to blow through the
space. Large-screen TVs, a pool table, dart boards and a jukebox fill
the space along with tables and chairs. The bar definitely exudes a
beachy-resort feel and is in the center of the amenities hub that also
offers a massage parlor and a salon. The prices pretty much stayed the
same as Scuttlebutts.

This weekend the resort is hosting "Back to the '70s Weekend," with a
"Young Nudist Weekend" on Aug. 14-15 and "Singles Weekend 'Toga
Party'" Aug. 21-23.

So if you dig the au naturel look, or don't mind drinking with folks
who do, you should definitely give these resort bars a try — no ifs,
ands or buts.
