A few non-nudist Christians believed that the Pope was referring to the nude 
paintings in the Vatican when he came up with that quote.

In the pre-nudist days, social nudity was very much sex segregated and I 
don't know of any women who were applauded or revered for going around nude 
publicly in the Bible.

However, when King David's wife Michal reprimanded him for exposing his 
genitals to all and sundry when the ark was being taken out, she was 
rebuffed by God by being made sterile.

just as i figured....no vatican or official Catholic site...rather the
netherlands or some unheard of ohio college and all those nudist that
come on with their bull crap....and if the Pope had said those things
it does not mean he approved of social nakedness of both genders....as
when i grew up on the ranch...men and boys would go fishing in the
creek and all were naked but no women or girls were around.....and
they state that they went fishing naked in the Bible....big deal that
has always been acceptable in all cultures as long as it is not mixed
gender and in those days i dont think women fished.....jz
