Physics demonstrates the point is impossible to prove one way or the
other. Not only does nobody know, but it is not possible for anybody
to ever know. As a result, I now think it is the modern equivalent of
the angels on pinheads controversy. I feel like an idiot.

That IS the literal meaning of the text, just like Hamlet was intended
to make Shakespeare money in the theatres of his day. Nevertheless, it
is still entertaining audiences today, partly due to the underlying
universal human issues it addresses, however rightly or wrongly.
