At the time some of the Greeks were fucking little boys, slaves and non-slaves, in public and as a matter of course. There were no laws against such activity and no police to enforce such laws, coupled with a public that thought such matters to be the way of the World. It is in that context that Paul spoke, not to us today, but to those particular societies and of that time. Paul also speaks to social settings like we have today where people are greedy, possessive and violent. He condemns that much more. Rarely do we hear of that message. Either way, he was literally talking to those people of that time, and he makes that clear. What is universal in his message is that the application of Jesus teachings must differ depending on the problems of the people of that time and place. No one size fits all. This is how Jesus teachings are consistent and valid for all time and all places. It is not a formula and never will be. Again, Paul's example was how NOT to be applying a formula but rather how to think, discuss and argue these things out with each other. The last thing he would have wanted would be for some preacher to blindly quote him in a completely different situation. Remember, it was Paul who eliminated much of the literal excesses of the Jews of that time being mandated in the Christian church.
