Lamentations 4

The Punishment of Zion

1 (La 2:19; Eze 7:19-22) How the gold has become dim!
How the most fine gold has changed!
The stones of the sanctuary lie scattered
at the head of every street.
2 (Jer 19:11; Isa 30:14) The precious sons of Zion,
comparable to fine gold,
how they are esteemed as earthen pots,
the work of a potter's hands!
3 (Isa 49:15; Eze 5:10) Even the jackals offer the breast;
they nurse their young,
yet the daughter of my people has become cruel,
like ostriches in the wilderness.
4 (Ps 22:15; La 2:11-12) The tongue of the infant cleaves
to the roof of his mouth for thirst;
the children beg for bread,
but no one divides it for them.
5 (Am 6:3-7; 2Sa 1:24) Those who once ate delicacies
are desolate in the streets;
those who were brought up in scarlet
embrace ash heaps.
6 (Ge 19:25; Lk 10:12) For the iniquity of the daughter of my people
is greater than the sin of Sodom,
which was overthrown in a moment,
and no hands were wrung for her.
7 (Ps 51:7) Her princes were purer than snow,
whiter than milk;
their bodies were more ruddy than rubies,
their appearance like sapphire.
8 (Job 30:30; Ps 102:3-5) Their form is blacker than coal;
they are not recognized in the streets;
their skin cleaves to their bones,
it has become as dry as wood.
9 (Lev 26:39; Eze 24:23) Those killed by the sword
are better off than those who die of hunger,
for they pine away,
stricken for want of the fruits of the field.
10 (La 2:20; Isa 49:15) The hands of compassionate women
have boiled their own children;
they became their food in the destruction
of the daughter of my people.
11 (Jer 7:20; Eze 22:31) The Lord has fulfilled His fury,
He has poured out His fierce anger.
He kindled a fire in Zion,
and it has devoured its foundations.
12 The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world,
would not have believed
that the adversary and the enemy could enter
the gates of Jerusalem.
13 (Jer 5:31; 6:13) This was for the sins of her prophets
and the iniquities of her priests,
who poured out in her midst the blood of the righteous.
14 (Jer 2:34; Nu 19:16) They wandered,
blind, in the streets;
they have defiled themselves with blood,
so that no one could touch their garments.
15 They cried out to them, "Depart! Unclean!
Depart, depart, do not touch us!"
Therefore they fled and wandered;
men among the nations said,
"They shall live with us no longer."
16 (Isa 9:14-16; La 5:12) The presence of the Lord scattered them;
He will regard them no more;
they do not respect the priests,
nor show favor to the elders.
17 (Eze 29:16; Isa 20:5) Our eyes failed us,
watching vainly for help;
in our watchtowers we watched
for a nation that could not save us.
18 (Am 8:2; Eze 7:2-12) They tracked our steps
so that we could not walk in our streets.
Our end drew near; our days were numbered,
for our end had come.
19 (Isa 5:26-28; Jer 4:13) Our pursuers were swifter
than the eagles of the skies.
They pursued us on the mountains;
they lay in wait for us in the wilderness.
20 (Ge 2:7; 2Sa 19:21) The breath of our life, the anointed king of the Lord,
was captured in their traps,
of whom we said, "Under his shadow
we shall live among the nations."
21 (Job 1:1; Ps 137:7) Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom,
you who dwell in the land of Uz!
The cup shall also pass to you;
you shall become drunk and strip yourself bare.
22 (Isa 40:2; Ps 137:7) The punishment of your iniquity,
O daughter of Zion, is accomplished;
He shall exile you no longer.
He shall punish your iniquity, O daughter of Edom;
He will expose your sins!

[1] How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the
stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.
[2] The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they
esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!
[3] Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young
ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the
wilderness.
[4] The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for
thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.
[5] They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that
were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.
[6] For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is
greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a
moment, and no hands stayed on her.
[7] Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they
were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire:
[8] Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets:
their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.
[9] They that be slain with the sword are better than they that be slain
with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for want of the
fruits of the field.
[10] The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they
were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.
[11] The LORD hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce
anger, and hath kindled a fire in Zion, and it hath devoured the foundations
thereof.
[12] The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not
have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the
gates of Jerusalem.
[13] For the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, that
have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,
[14] They have wandered as blind men in the streets, they have polluted
themselves with blood, so that men could not touch their garments.
[15] They cried unto them, Depart ye; it is unclean; depart, depart, touch
not: when they fled away and wandered, they said among the heathen, They
shall no more sojourn there.
[16] The anger of the LORD hath divided them; he will no more regard them:
they respected not the persons of the priests, they favoured not the elders.
[17] As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we
have watched for a nation that could not save us.
[18] They hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near,
our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.
[19] Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued
us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness.
[20] The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the LORD, was taken in
their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen.
[21] Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of
Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and
shalt make thyself naked.
[22] The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion;
he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine
iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover thy sins.

Lamentations 5

A Prayer for Restoration

1 (Ps 44:13-16; La 3:61) Remember, O Lord, what has come upon us;
look, and see our reproach!
2 (Zep 1:13; Isa 1:7) Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers,
our homes to foreigners.
3 (Jer 18:21; Ex 22:24) We have become orphans and fatherless;
our mothers are like widows.
4 (Isa 3:1) We must pay for the water we drink; our wood is sold to us.
5 (Ne 9:36-37) Our pursuers are at our necks; we labor and have no rest.
6 (Hos 9:3; 12:1) We have given our hand to Egypt and to Assyria,
to be satisfied with bread.
7 (Jer 16:12; 31:29) Our fathers sinned and are no more,
but we bear their iniquities.
8 (Ne 5:15; Zec 11:6) Slaves rule over us;
there is no one to deliver us from their hand.
9 (Jer 40:9-12) We get our bread at the peril of our lives,
because of the sword in the wilderness.
10 (La 4:8; Job 30:30) Our skin is hot as an oven,
because of the terrible famine.
11 (Zec 14:2; Isa 13:16) They ravished the women in Zion,
the virgins in the cities of Judah.
12 (La 4:16; Isa 47:6) Princes were hung up by their hands,
the faces of elders were not honored.
13 (Jdg 16:21) Young men ground at the millstones;
boys staggered under loads of wood.
14 (Jer 7:34) The elders have left the city gate,
the young men stopped their music.
15 (Am 8:10) The joy of our hearts has ceased;
our dancing has turned into mourning.
16 (Ps 89:39; Jer 13:18) The crown has fallen from our head;
woe to us, for we have sinned!
17 (Isa 1:5; La 2:11) For this our heart is faint;
for these things our eyes grow dim;
18 (Mic 3:12) because of Mount Zion, which is desolate,
with foxes walking upon it.
19 (Ps 102:12; 45:6) You, O Lord, remain forever;
Your throne endures from generation to generation.
20 (Ps 13:1; 44:24) Why do You forget us forever,
and forsake us for so long a time?
21 (Ps 80:3; Jer 31:18) Restore us to Yourself, O Lord, that we may return!
Renew our days as of old,
22 (Ps 60:1-2) unless You have utterly rejected us,
and are very angry with us.

Lamentations 5

[5] Our necks are under persecution: we labour, and have no rest.

satisfied with bread.
[7] Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities.
[8] Servants have ruled over us: there is none that doth deliver us out of
their hand.
[9] We gat our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the
wilderness.
[10] Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine.
[11] They ravished the women in Zion, and the maids in the cities of Judah.
[12] Princes are hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders were not
honoured.
[13] They took the young men to grind, and the children fell under the wood.
[14] The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their musick.
[15] The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.
[16] The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!
[17] For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim.
[18] Because of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk
upon it.
[19] Thou, O LORD, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to
generation.
[20] Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time?
[21] Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days
as of old.
[22] But thou hast utterly rejected us; thou art very wroth against us.

Ezekiel 28

A Prophecy Against the King of Tyre

1 The word of the Lord came again to me, saying:
2 (Eze 28:9; 2Th 2:4; Isa 31:3) Son of man, say to the leader of Tyre,
Thus says the Lord God:
Because your heart is lifted up,
and you have said, "I am a god;
I sit in the seat of gods
in the midst of the seas,"
yet you are a man, and not God,
though you set your heart as the heart of God.
3 (Da 1:20; 5:11-12) You are wiser than Daniel;
there is no secret that is a match for you.
4 With your wisdom and with your understanding,
you have obtained riches for yourself,
and have obtained gold and silver
into your treasuries;
5 (Ps 62:10; 52:7) by your great wisdom, by your trade,
you have increased your riches,
and your heart is lifted up
because of your riches.
6 (Eze 28:2; Ex 9:17) Therefore thus says the Lord God:
Because you have set your heart
as the heart of God,
7 (Eze 31:12; 30:11) therefore, I will bring strangers upon you,
the most cruel of the nations;
and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom,
and defile your brightness.
8 (Eze 27:26-27; 27:34) They shall bring you down to the pit,
and you shall die the death of those who are slain
in the midst of the seas.
9 (Eze 28:2) Will you yet say before him who slays you,
"I am a god,"
although you are a man and not God,
in the hands of those who wound you?
10 (Eze 31:18; 32:19) You shall die the death of the uncircumcised
by the hand of strangers;
for I have spoken! says the Lord God.

A Lament for the King of Tyre

11 Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
12 (Eze 19:1; 26:17) Son of man, take up a lamentation
over the king of Tyre and say to him, Thus says the Lord God:
You had the seal of perfection,
full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 (Eze 27:16; 31:8-9) You were in Eden,
the garden of God;
every precious stone was your covering:
the sardius, topaz, and the diamond,
the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper,
the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold.
The workmanship of your settings and sockets was in you;
on the day that you were created, they were prepared.
14 (Ex 25:17-20; 30:26) You were the anointed cherub that covers,
and I set you there;
you were upon the holy mountain of God;
you walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
15 (Eze 27:3-4; 28:3-6) You were perfect in your ways
from the day that you were created,
until iniquity was found in you.
16 (Hab 2:17; Ge 3:24) By the multitude of your merchandise,
you were filled with violence in your midst,
and you sinned;
therefore I have cast you as profane out of the mountain of God;
and I have destroyed you, O covering cherub,
from the midst of the stones of fire.
17 (Eze 28:2; 28:5) Your heart was lifted up
because of your beauty;
you have corrupted your wisdom
by reason of your brightness;
I cast you to the ground,
I lay you before kings, that they may see you.
18 (Mal 4:3; Am 1:9-10) You have defiled your sanctuaries
by the multitude of your iniquities, by the iniquity of your trade;
therefore I have brought fire out from your midst;
it has devoured you,
and I have turned you to ashes upon the earth
in the sight of all those who see you.
19 (Eze 26:21) All those who know you among the people
are astonished at you;
you are a terror,
and you shall cease to be forever.

A Prophecy Against Sidon

20 Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
21 (Eze 6:2; Ge 10:15) Son of man, set your face toward Sidon
and prophesy against her
22 (Eze 39:13; Ex 14:4) and say, Thus says the Lord God:
I am against you, O Sidon;
and I will be glorified in your midst;
and they shall know that I am the Lord,
when I execute judgments in her
and display My holiness in her.
23 (Eze 38:22) For I will send pestilence into her,
and blood into her streets;
and the wounded shall fall in her midst
by the sword upon her on every side;
and they shall know that I am the Lord.
24 (Nu 33:55; Jos 23:13) There shall be no more a pricking brier
to the house of Israel, nor any painful thorn among all
who are around them, who despised them. Then they shall know that
I am the Lord God.

The Future Blessing for Israel

25 (Ps 106:47; Jer 23:8) Thus says the Lord God: When I gather
the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered
and display My holiness in them in the sight of the nations,
then they shall dwell in their land that I have given to My servant Jacob.
26 (Eze 28:22; 28:24) They shall dwell safely in it and shall build houses
and plant vineyards and dwell securely when I execute judgments on all those
around them who despise them. Then they shall know that
I am the Lord their God.

Ezekiel 28
[1] The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,
[2] Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in
the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God,
though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:
[3] Behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can
hide from thee:
[4] With thy wisdom and with thine understanding thou hast gotten thee
riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures:
[5] By thy great wisdom and by thy traffick hast thou increased thy riches,
and thine heart is lifted up because of thy riches:
[6] Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast set thine heart as
the heart of God;
[7] Behold, therefore I will bring strangers upon thee, the terrible of the
nations: and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of thy wisdom,
and they shall defile thy brightness.
[8] They shall bring thee down to the pit, and thou shalt die the deaths of
them that are slain in the midst of the seas.
[9] Wilt thou yet say before him that slayeth thee, I am God? but thou shalt
be a man, and no God, in the hand of him that slayeth thee.
[10] Thou shalt die the deaths of the uncircumcised by the hand of
strangers: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
[11] Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
[12] Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto
him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and
perfect in beauty.
[13] Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy
covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the
jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the
workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day
that thou wast created.
[14] Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so:
thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in
the midst of the stones of fire.
[15] Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created,
till iniquity was found in thee.
[16] By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee
with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane
out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub,
from the midst of the stones of fire.
[17] Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted
thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I
will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
[18] Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities,
by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from
the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon
the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
[19] All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee:
thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.
[20] Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
[21] Son of man, set thy face against Zidon, and prophesy against it,
[22] And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Zidon;
and I will be glorified in the midst of thee: and they shall know that I am
the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in her, and shall be
sanctified in her.
[23] For I will send into her pestilence, and blood into her streets; and
the wounded shall be judged in the midst of her by the sword upon her on
every side; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
[24] And there shall be no more a pricking brier unto the house of Israel,
nor any grieving thorn of all that are round about them, that despised them;
and they shall know that I am the Lord GOD.
[25] Thus saith the Lord GOD; When I shall have gathered the house of Israel
from the people among whom they are scattered, and shall be sanctified in
them in the sight of the heathen, then shall they dwell in their land that I
have given to my servant Jacob.
[26] And they shall dwell safely therein, and shall build houses, and plant
vineyards; yea, they shall dwell with confidence, when I have executed
judgments upon all those that despise them round about them; and they shall
know that I am the LORD their God.

Ezekiel 29:1-16

A Prophecy Against Egypt

1 (Eze 26:1; 29:17) In the tenth year, in the tenth month,
on the twelfth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
2 (Eze 6:2; Jer 44:30) Son of man, set your face against Pharaoh king of Egypt
and prophesy against him and against all Egypt.
3 (Isa 27:1; Eze 32:2) Speak, and say, Thus says the Lord God:
I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt,
the great dragon that lies in the midst of his rivers,
which has said, "My Nile is my own,
and I myself have made it."
4 (2Ki 19:28; Eze 38:4) But I will put hooks in your jaws,
and will cause the fish of your rivers to stick to your scales,
and will bring you up out of the midst of your rivers,
and all the fish of your rivers shall stick to your scales.
5 (Jer 7:33; 8:2) I will abandon you to the wilderness,
you and all the fish of your rivers;
you shall fall upon the open field;
you shall not be brought together or gathered.
I have given you for food
to the beasts of the field and to the fowl of the heavens.
6 (2Ki 18:21; Isa 36:6) All the inhabitants of Egypt shall know
that I am the Lord, because they have been
a staff of reed to the house of Israel.
7 (Eze 17:15-17) When they took hold of you by your hand,
you broke and tore all their hands. And when they leaned upon you,
you broke and made all their legs shake.
8 (Eze 14:17) Therefore thus says the Lord God: I will bring a sword
upon you, and cut off man and beast out of you.
9 (Eze 29:3; Pr 16:18) The land of Egypt shall become a desolation
and waste. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.
Because you said, "The Nile is mine, and I have made it,"
10 (Eze 30:12) therefore, I am against you and against your rivers,
and I will make the land of Egypt an utter waste and desolation,
from Migdol to Syene, as far as the border of Ethiopia.
11 (Eze 32:13; Jer 43:11-12) No foot of man shall pass through it,
nor foot of beast pass through it, nor shall it be inhabited for forty years.
12 (Jer 46:19; Eze 30:7) Thus I will make the land of Egypt desolate
in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities
among the cities that are laid waste shall be desolate for forty years.
And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations
and will disperse them among the countries.
13 (Isa 19:22; Jer 46:26) For thus says the Lord God:
At the end of forty years I will gather the Egyptians from the peoples
wherever they were scattered.
14 (Eze 30:14; Isa 11:11) And I will turn the fortunes of Egypt
and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros,
into the land of their origin, and there they shall be a debased kingdom.
15 (Eze 30:13; Zec 10:11) It shall be the basest of the kingdoms,
and it shall exalt itself no more above the nations. For I will diminish them
so that they shall rule over the nations no more.
16 (Hos 8:13; Isa 20:5) It shall be the confidence of the house of Israel
no more, bringing to mind the iniquity of their having turned to Egypt.
But they shall know that I am the Lord God.

[5] And I will leave thee thrown into the wilderness, thee and all the fish
of thy rivers: thou shalt fall upon the open fields; thou shalt not be
brought together, nor gathered: I have given thee for meat to the beasts of
the field and to the fowls of the heaven.
[6] And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the LORD, because
they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel.
[7] When they took hold of thee by thy hand, thou didst break, and rend all
their shoulder: and when they leaned upon thee, thou brakest, and madest all
their loins to be at a stand.
[8] Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring a sword upon
thee, and cut off man and beast out of thee.
[9] And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste; and they shall know
that I am the LORD: because he hath said, The river is mine, and I have made
it.
[10] Behold, therefore I am against thee, and against thy rivers, and I will
make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from the tower of Syene
even unto the border of Ethiopia.
[11] No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass
through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years.
[12] And I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the
countries that are desolate, and her cities among the cities that are laid
waste shall be desolate forty years: and I will scatter the Egyptians among
the nations, and will disperse them through the countries.
[13] Yet thus saith the Lord GOD; At the end of forty years will I gather
the Egyptians from the people whither they were scattered:
[14] And I will bring again the captivity of Egypt, and will cause them to
return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their habitation; and they
shall be there a base kingdom.
[15] It shall be the basest of the kingdoms; neither shall it exalt itself
any more above the nations: for I will diminish them, that they shall no
more rule over the nations.
[16] And it shall be no more the confidence of the house of Israel, which
bringeth their iniquity to remembrance, when they shall look after them: but
they shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

Babylonia to Plunder Egypt

17 (Eze 29:1) In the twenty-seventh year, in the first month,
on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
18 (Jer 27:6; 25:9) Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon
caused his army to labor hard against Tyre. Every head was made bald,
and every shoulder was peeled. Yet he and his army had no wages from Tyre
for the labor that he had done against it.
19 (Jer 43:10-13; Eze 30:24-25) Therefore thus says the Lord God:
I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.
And he shall carry off her wealth and take her spoil and take her prey.
And it shall be wages for his army.
20 (Isa 10:6-7; Jer 25:9) I have given him the land of Egypt

Ezekiel 30:1-19

A Prophecy Against Pharaoh

20 (Eze 26:1; 29:17) In the eleventh year, in the first month,

21 (Jer 30:13; 46:11) Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king
of Egypt. And it has not been bound up to be healed or wrapped with
a bandage to make it strong to hold the sword.
22 (2Ki 24:7; Ps 37:17) Therefore thus says the Lord God: I am against
Pharaoh king of Egypt and will break his arms, both the strong
and the broken. And I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand.
23 (Eze 30:17-18; 30:26) I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations

24 (Eze 30:25; Zep 2:12) For I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon

Ezekiel 31

Pharaoh to Be Slain

1 (Eze 30:20; Jer 52:5-6) In the eleventh year, in the third month,

2 (Eze 29:19; 30:10) Son of man, speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt,
and to his multitude:
Whom are you like in your greatness?
3 (Isa 10:33-34; Da 4:10) Assyria was a cedar in Lebanon,
with fair branches and shade for a forest,
and high stature;
and its top was among the clouds.
4 (Eze 17:5; 17:8) The waters made it great;
the deep set it up on high.
With its rivers it continually ran
all around its plants,
and sent out its little rivers
to all the trees of the field.
5 (Da 4:11; Eze 17:5) Therefore its height was exalted
above all the trees of the field,
and its boughs were multiplied,
and its branches became long

of its fall when I cast him down to Sheol with those who descend into the pit.
And all the well-watered trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon,
were comforted in the nether parts of the earth.

who were slain with the sword. And those who were its power lived
under its shadow in the midst of the nations.

in the midst of the uncircumcised with those who were slain by the sword.

The Conversion of Saul
Ac 22:6-16; 26:12-18
1 (Ac 8:3; Ps 27:12) Saul, still breathing out threats and murder
against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,
2 (Ac 19:9; 19:23) and requested letters from him to the synagogues
of Damascus, so that if he found any there of the Way, either men or women,
he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
3 (1Co 15:8; Ac 22:6) As he went he drew near Damascus, and suddenly a light
from heaven shone around him.
4 (Isa 63:9; Zec 2:8) He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him,
"Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me?"

Morse was the son of a Protestant minister and a struggling painter 
of landscapes. In the 1820s, he made a meager living as a limner - "an 
itinerant painter" of colonial America. But his was a life God led in another
direction. Morse also had an interest in science. He learned about 
electromagnets, conceiving an idea that would change the world. In 1832, 
Samuel F. B. Morse conceived the idea of an electric telegraph 
and later went on to make the first working telegraph.

Probably the most dramatic biblical account of "career change" was that 
of Saul, who was "breathing out murderous threats" against believers 
in Christ (Acts 9:1). Jesus appeared to him in a great light (v. 3) 
saying that Saul was persecuting Him. Essentially, Saul was told 
to stop because he was under new orders now (v. 6). Saul did a U-turn 
in his life and assumed a new identity in Christ as the apostle
 who would eventually spread the gospel wherever he went.

Sometimes what we think is our future really isn't. God leads us 
in another direction. Perhaps He needs to call us out of our sin. 
Or maybe it's a change of ministry or vocation. When God redirects our lives, 
we do well to stop what we're doing and follow our new orders. And as our new 
path opens before us, we might just echo the joy of the first dot-and-dash 
message of Morse’s telegraph: "What hath God wrought!"

"But Mom, I really need these!" The strident voice of a teenage girl
rose above the hum of voices in the department store. The item in question
was a pair of $80 blue Jeans, faded, bleached, and torn in the right knee.
Style . Fashion. Self-Image. The girl may not have needed the jeans to
enhance her wardrobe, but she obviously felt she needed then to
enhance her acceptability among her peers.
Phillippains 4:19 promises that God "shall supply your every need according
to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." But just what needs does this
promise cover? My need for a bigger house? A better job?
An $80 pair of Calvin Kleins?
Certainly God knows and cares about the physical, superficial need of our
lives, and he provides what we need to sustain life. But God's priority
goes much deeper than the kind of radial tires we buy or the brand name on
our back pockets. God is interested in eternal values, in spiritual needs, and
he knows what we need in our lives to draw us closer to him.
"Out of his glorious riches in Christ Jesus," God will enrich us spiritually.
The application of Phil 4:19 involves trusting God to know and care about our
real needs, the deep needs of our souls, and allowing him the freedom to
order our circumstances so that those needs are met. When we are bold
enough to pray, "Lord, do whatever is necessary to make me more like
Jesus Christ," our Father delights to answer that prayer and supply our needs.

With 6 of the Nova Scotia's 10 universities located in Halifax, there is
a high concentration of Muslin international students in the area,
a harvest field in itself.
Pray for Nova Scotia and her Muslim populations

- for pastors and churches to be bold in vision, passion and outreach
to Muslims in their areas.

- for Muslims who are searching for a better way to find a Christian friend
to share Jesus with and disciple them

new faith in Jesus with other Muslims

Halifax is the centre of Muslim activity for the Province of Nova Scotia
with at least 10 Islamic centres (mosques) and musallas
(prayer locations, especially for Friday prayer). And there are other mosques
in Chebucto, Kearney Lake, Dartmouth, Bedford and Truro.

Though the original community of Muslims was primarily composed of
newcomers from Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh and India, continued immigration
has further diversified this community. Anf it is said thay Arabic
is the second most spoken language in Halifax.

while conservative estimates place the number of Muslims at almost 15000
in 2014, the Imama of a primary Halifax mosque estimates their population
somewhere between 25000 to 30000.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
