Day 284, 11 October 2025 1) Luke 9:7-9, Mark 6:14-29, Matthew 14:1-21, Mark 6:30-44, Luke 9:10-17, John 6:1-15, Mark 6:45-52, Matthew 14:22-33, John 6:16-21, Mark 6:53-56, Matthew 14:34-36 Luke 9:7-9 Herod's Anxiety Mt 14:1-12; Mk 6:14-29 7 (Mt 14:1-12; Mk 6:14-28) Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by Him. And he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead, 8 (Lk 9:19; Jn 1:21) and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen. 9 (Lk 23:8) But Herod said, "I have beheaded John. But who is this of whom I hear such things?" And he tried to see Him. [7] Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead; [8] And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again. [9] And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him. Mark 6:14-29 The Death of John the Baptist Mt 14:1-12; Lk 9:7-9 14 (Lk 9:7-9) King Herod heard of Him, for His name was spread publicly. He said, "John the Baptist has been raised from the dead, and therefore these miracles are at work in him." 15 (Mt 21:11; 16:14) But others said, "He is Elijah." And yet others said, "He is the Prophet, or like one of the prophets." 16 But when Herod heard of it, he said, "It is John, whom I beheaded. He has been raised from the dead!" 17 (Mt 11:2; Lk 3:19-20) Herod had sent and seized John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, for he had married her. 18 (Lev 18:16; 20:21) For John said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife." 19 So Herodias had a grudge against him and would have killed him, but she could not, 20 (Mt 21:26; 14:5) for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and protected him. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, but heard him gladly. 21 (Est 2:18; Ge 40:20) But a convenient day came when Herod on his birthday prepared a ceremonial dinner for his lords and commanding officers and leading men of Galilee. 22 When the daughter of Herodias came in and danced and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, "Ask of me whatever you desire, and I will give it to you." 23 (Est 5:3; 7:2) And he swore to her, "Whatever you ask of me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom." 24 She went out and said to her mother, "What shall I ask?" She said, "The head of John the Baptist." 25 She came in immediately with haste to the king and asked, "I want you to give me the head of John the Baptist on a platter at once." 26 The king was extremely sorrowful. Yet for the sake of his oath and those who sat with him, he would not reject her. 27 So the king immediately sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought. He went and beheaded him in the prison, 28 and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl. And the girl gave it to her mother. 29 When his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse and laid it in a tomb. [14] And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him. [15] Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets. [16] But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead. [17] For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her. [18] For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife. [19] Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not: [20] For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly. [21] And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee; [22] And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee. [23] And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom. [24] And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist. [25] And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist. [26] And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her. [27] And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison, [28] And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother. [29] And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb. Matthew 14:1-21 The Death of John the Baptist Mk 6:14-29; Lk 9:7-9 1 (Lk 3:1; 9:7-9) At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus, 2 (Mt 16:14) and said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist; he has risen from the dead. And therefore mighty works are at work in him." 3 (Mt 4:12; Mk 6:17) For Herod had laid hold of John, bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife. 4 (Lev 18:16; 20:21) For John said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her." 5 (Mt 11:9; 21:26) When Herod would have put him to death, he feared the crowd, because they counted him as a prophet. 6 (Ge 40:20; Mk 6:21-23) But when Herod's birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod. 7Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask. 8 Being previously instructed by her mother, she said, "Give me John the Baptist's head on a platter." 9 The king was sorry. Nevertheless, for the oath's sake and those who sat with him at supper, he commanded it to be given to her. 10 (Mt 17:12) He sent and beheaded John in the prison. 11 His head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. 12 (Ac 8:2) His disciples came and took up the body and buried it. And they went and told Jesus. [1] At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus, [2] And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him. [3] For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife. [4] For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her. [5] And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet. [6] But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod. [7] Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask. [8] And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger. [9] And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her. [10] And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison. [11] And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother. [12] And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus. The Feeding of the Five Thousand Mk 6:30-44; Lk 9:10-17; Jn 6:1-14 13 (Lk 9:10-17) When Jesus heard this, He departed from there by boat for a deserted place. But when the people heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities. 14 (Mt 9:36; 4:23) Jesus went ashore and saw a great assembly. And He was moved with compassion toward them, and He healed their sick. 15 (Mt 15:23) When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, "This is a lonely place and the day is now over. Send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy themselves food." 16 (2Ki 4:42-44) But Jesus said to them, "They do not need to depart. You give them something to eat." 17 They said to Him, "We have only five loaves here and two fish. 18 He said, "Bring them here to Me." 19 (1Sa 9:13; Lk 24:30) Then He commanded the crowds to sit down on the grass. He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to His disciples; and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 20 (Lk 9:17) They all ate and were filled. And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. 21 Those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children. [13] When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities. [14] And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick. [15] And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals. [16] But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat. [17] And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. [18] He said, Bring them hither to me. [19] And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. [20] And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. [21] And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children. Mark 6:30-44 The Feeding of the Five Thousand Mt 14:13-21; Lk 9:10-17; Jn 6:1-14 30 (Lk 9:10; Mt 10:2; Lk 17:5) The apostles met with Jesus and told him everything, both what they had done and what they had taught. 31 (Mk 3:20) Then He said to them, "Come away by yourselves to a remote place and rest a while," for many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. 32 So they went into a remote place privately by boat. 33 But the people saw them departing, and many knew Him and ran there on foot out of every city. They arrived first and came together to Him. 34 (Mt 9:36; Nu 27:17) When Jesus came out and saw many people, He was moved with compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And He began to teach them many things. 35 When the day was now getting late, His disciples came to Him and said, "This is a remote place, and now the time is passing. 36 (Mt 15:23) Send them away into the surrounding country and villages to buy themselves bread, for they have nothing to eat." 37 (2Ki 4:42-44; Nu 11:13) But He answered, "You give them something to eat." They said to Him, "Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii [Eight months' wages.] worth of bread and give it to them to eat?" 38 (Mt 15:34; Mk 8:5) He said to them, "How many loaves have you? Go and see." When they found out, they said, "Five, and two fish." 39 Then He commanded them to make everyone sit down by companies on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in ranks, by hundreds and by fifties. 41 (Mt 14:19; 1Sa 9:13) When He had taken the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to His disciples to set before them. And He divided the two fish among them all. 42 They all ate and were filled. 43 And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments and of the fish. 44 Those who ate of the loaves were about five thousand men. [30] And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught. [31] And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. [32] And they departed into a desert place by ship privately. [33] And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him. [34] And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things. [35] And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed: [36] Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat. [37] He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat? [38] He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes. [39] And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass. [40] And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties. [41] And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all. [42] And they did all eat, and were filled. [43] And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes. [44] And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men. Luke 9:10-17 The Feeding of the Five Thousand Mt 14:13-21; Mk 6:30-44; Jn 6:1-14 10 (Mt 11:21; Lk 10:17) When the apostles returned, they told Jesus all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the crowds knew it, they followed Him. And He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 (Mt 15:23) When the day began to end, the twelve came and said to Him, "Send the crowds away, so they can go into the towns and surrounding countryside and lodge and get food. For we are in a deserted place here." 13 (2Ki 4:42-43) He said to them, "You give them something to eat." They said, "We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we go and buy food for all these people." 14 There were about five thousand men. But He said to His disciples, "Make them sit down in groups of fifty." 15 They did so, and made them all sit down. 16 (Mt 14:19; Mk 7:34) Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed them, and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. 17 They all ate and were filled, and twelve baskets of broken pieces that remained were collected. [10] And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. [11] And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing. [12] And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place. [13] But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people. [14] For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company. [15] And they did so, and made them all sit down. [16] Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. [17] And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets. John 6:1-15 The Feeding of the Five Thousand Mt 14:13-21; Mk 6:30-44; Lk 9:10-17 1 After these things Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. 2 And a great crowd followed Him, because they saw His signs which He did for the sick. 3 Then Jesus went up on a mountain, and He sat there with His disciples. 4 Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was near. 5 When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming to Him, He said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread that these may eat?" 6 He said this to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do. 7 Philip answered Him, "Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for each of them to receive but a little." 8 One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him, 9 "There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two small fish. But what are they among so many?" 10 Jesus said, "Make the people sit down." Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, numbering about five thousand. 11 Jesus then took the loaves, and when He had given thanks, He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down; and likewise, they distributed the fish, as much as they wanted. 12 When they were filled, He told His disciples, "Collect the fragments that remain, that nothing may be lost." 13 So they collected them and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. 14 When those men saw the sign which He had done, they then said, "This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world." 15 Therefore, knowing that they would come and take Him by force to make Him king, Jesus departed again to a mountain by Himself alone. [1] After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. [2] And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased. [3] And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples. [4] And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh. [5] When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? [6] And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. [7] Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. [8] One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him, [9] There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? [10] And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. [11] And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. [12] When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. [13] Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten. [14] Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world. [15] When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone. Mark 6:45-52 Walking on the Water Mt 14:22-33; Jn 6:15-21 45 (Mk 8:22; Jn 6:15-21) Immediately He compelled His disciples to get into the boat and to go before Him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He sent the crowd away. 46 (Mt 14:23; Mk 1:35) When He had sent them away, He departed to a mountain to pray. 47 When evening came, the boat was in the midst of the sea. And He was alone on the land. 48 (Lk 12:38; 24:28) He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea and would have passed by them. 49 (Lk 24:37) But when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out. 50 (Mt 14:27; Isa 43:2) For they all saw Him and were troubled. Immediately He spoke to them and said, "Be of good cheer, it is I. Do not be afraid." 51 (Mk 4:39) Then He went up to them in the boat and the wind ceased. They were greatly astonished in themselves beyond measure, and wondered. 52 (Mk 3:5; 8:17-21) For they had not comprehended the miracle of the loaves, for their hearts were hardened. [45] And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people. [46] And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray. [47] And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land. [48] And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them. [49] But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out: [50] For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid. [51] And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered. [52] For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened. Matthew 14:22-33 Walking on the Water Mk 6:45-52; Jn 6:15-21 22 Then Jesus commanded His disciples to get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side, while He sent the crowds away. 23 (Lk 6:12; Mk 6:46) When He sent the crowds away, He went up into a mountain by Himself to pray. And when evening came, He was there alone. 24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was turbulent. 25 (Job 9:8; Mt 24:43) During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. 26 (Lk 24:37) But when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, "It is a spirit." And they cried out in fear. 27 (Mt 9:2; Ac 23:11) But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Be of good cheer. It is I. Do not be afraid." 28 Peter answered Him and said, "Lord, if it is You, bid me come to You on the water." 29 He said, "Come." And when Peter got out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the strong wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!" 31 (Mt 6:30; 8:26) Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 (Ps 2:7; Mt 16:16) Then those who were in the boat came and worshipped Him, saying, "Truly You are the Son of God." [22] And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. [23] And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. [24] But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. [25] And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. [26] And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. [27] But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. [28] And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. [29] And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. [30] But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. [31] And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? [32] And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. [33] Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God. John 6:16-21 Walking on the Water Mt 14:22-27; Mk 6:45-52 16 Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea. 17 They got into a boat and went across the sea toward Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them. 18 The sea was stirred up because a strong wind was blowing. 19 So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat. And they were afraid. 20 But He said to them, "It is I. Do not be afraid." 21 Then they gladly received Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going. [16] And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea, [17] And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them. [18] And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew. [19] So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid. [20] But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid. [21] Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went. Mark 6:53-56 The Healing of the Sick in Gennesaret Mt 14:34-36 53 (Mt 14:34-36; Lk 5:1) When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret and anchored on the shore. 54 When they had come out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him, 55 (Mt 4:24) and ran throughout the surrounding region, and began to carry the sick on beds to wherever they heard He was. 56 (Mt 9:20; Mk 3:10) And wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and pleaded with Him that they might touch even the fringe of His garment. And as many as touched Him were healed. [53] And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore. [54] And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him, [55] And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was. [56] And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole. Matthew 14:34-36 The Healing of the Sick in Gennesaret Mk 6:53-56 34 (Mk 6:53-56; Lk 5:1) When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent word to all the surrounding country and brought to Him all who were sick, 36 (Mk 3:10; Lk 6:19) and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well. [34] And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret. [35] And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased; [36] And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole. 2) Our Daily Bread for 11 October 2025 titled Access Through Christ by Nancy Gavilanes Hebrews 4:14-16; 5:1-6 Jesus the Great High Priest 14 (Heb 6:20; 1:2-3) Since then we have a great High Priest who has passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to our confession. 15 (2Co 5:21; Jn 8:46) For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathise with our weaknesses, but One who was in every sense tempted like we are, yet without sin. 16 (Eph 3:12; Php 4:6-7) Let us then come with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. [14] Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. [15] For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. [16] Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 5 1 (Heb 8:3; 10:11; 2:17) For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to represent men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2 (Heb 2:18; 7:28) He is able to have compassion on the ignorant and on those who are wayward, for he himself is also subject to weakness. 3 (Heb 7:27; 9:7; Lev 9:7) Because of this he must offer sacrifices for his own sins, just as he does for the people. 4 (Ex 28:1; Nu 16:40) No man takes this honor for himself, but he who is called by God receives it, just as Aaron did. 5 (Jn 8:54; Ps 2:7) So also Christ did not glorify Himself to be made a High Priest, but it was He who said to Him: "You are My Son; today I have become Your Father."–7 (Ps 40:6–8.) 6 (Heb 7:17; Ps 110:4; Heb 7:21) As He also says in another place: "You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek."(Ps 110:4.) [1] For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins: [2] Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. [3] And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins. [4] And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron. [5] So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. [6] As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. As a young journalist, I quickly learned about the power of a "press pass." That one credential-displaying my name, picture, and media outlet-granted me access to meet and interview athletes and celebrities before or after major events. However, after I received Jesus as my Saviour, I realised sports and my career had become my idols. Following God's call elsewhere, I lost my press pass but gained access to God's heavenly throne room through prayer because of Jesus' sacrificial death and resurrection. The writer of Hebrews points out that a high priest was selected from among the Israelites, specifically one of Aaron's descendants, and appointed as the go-between representing the people before God. He alone could enter the Most Holy Place in the temple once a year "to offer gifts and sacrifice" to atone for his and the people's sins (5:1), for he too was a mortal man. Then Christ came, our great and perfect high priest. When He died, the veil in the temple was torn and the barrier that existed between God and humanity was removed (Matthew 27:51). Because our loving Redeemer has reconciled us to His Father, we can freely pray to God: "Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need" (Hebrews 4:16). What a privilege to have access to God's throne room as we talk to Him in prayer. Reflect & Pray How can you make time to pray more often? What stops you from praying? Dear Jesus, thank You for giving me access to the Father. Discover why we pray and why it is important. 3) Daily verses taken from Billy Graham Evangelical Organisation Words in Season Scripture Memory Tools Week 4 - The Blessings of Grace Day 7 God's Bulldozer - Luke 3:5-6 5 (Isa 40:4; 42:16) Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight and the rough ways shall be made smooth; 6 (Isa 40:5; 52:10) and all flesh shall see the salvation of God. 5 Every valley shall be filled, And every mountain and hill shall be brought low; And the crooked shall be made straight, And the rough ways shall be made smooth; 6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. When a new highway is being constructed, the roads crew work hard in preparing for the new surface to be laid. Giant bulldozers cut through the hillsides, moving earth, leveling, filling, evening the path out where the roadway will run. When the work is first begun, if often looks like chaos: and even after the highway begins to take shape, the land is still ugly, scarred by the unsightly gashes cut through the landscape. Yet after the work is completed and the grass and trees are replanted, we forget the temporary upheaval and see only the beauty of the land and the convenience of the new roadway. In Luke 3:5-6, John the Baptist presents a prophecy of the coming of Christ, a prophecy quoted from Isaiah 40:3-5 . The prophecy speaks of the preparation of the world for the coming Messiah, but is also applies to the preparation of the individual heart to receive him. Sometimes, the Holy Spirit must do major work in our hearts to prepare us for the coming of Christ into our live. Like a bulldozer, he brings down the mountains of pride in our lives. He fill the empty places , corrects the crooked, grades down the rough edges of our hearts. Often this is not pleasant work. We prefer to maintain the rugged landscape of Self, and we do not like the ugly scars that are left after the bulldozer has done its job. But if we submit to the Spirit's "Construction work" in us, the way will be paved for the Lord to enter into our lives, and others will see in us, the way be paved for the Lord to enter into our lives, and other will see in us the glory and salvation of our God. Application a) What "construction work" has to Holy Spirit done in me? b) What restoration has taken place because of that work? c) How do today's verses help me put in perspective the work God still want to do in me? 4) From Prosperity Promises - Kenneth Copeland Luke 16:10-12 10 (Mt 25:21; Lk 19:17) "He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much. And he who is dishonest in the least is dishonest also in much. 11 So if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will commit to your trust the true riches? 12 And if you have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who will give you that which is your own?" 10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. 11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? 12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own? 5) From a Book called God's Promises for you: God's Reconciling Peace Col 3:12-17 12 (Eph 4:2; Lk 1:78) So embrace, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, a spirit of mercy, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, and longsuffering. 13 (Eph 4:32; Mk 11:25; Eph 4:2) Bear with one another and forgive one another. If anyone has a quarrel against anyone, even as Christ forgave you, so you must do. 14 (Eph 4:3; 1Co 13:1-13) And above all these things, embrace love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 (Jn 14:27; Eph 5:20) Let the peace of God, to which also you are called in one body, rule in your hearts. And be thankful. 16 (Eph 5:19; Col 1:28; Ro 10:17 ) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 (1Co 10:31; Eph 5:20 ) And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. 12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Remember God's promises when You pray The Lord's prayer Matthew 6:9-13 9 "Therefore pray in this manner: Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name. 10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come; Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. 11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread. 12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 (1Co 10:13; Jn 17:15) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen." 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 6) This come from Praying for Muslims in Canada 2015 (Is there a 2021 edition?) Prince Edward Island Total population 146300 Muslim population (est.) 1127 Charlottetown does not currently (fall 2014) have a local CNMM network. Pray with us for God's people to come together in reaching Muslims cooperatively across denominational and organisational lines. More than 200 attended the Eid festival at the end of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting during daylight hours and the reading of the Qur'an, at the Dar as-Salam mosque in 2014. This second mosque established in Charlottetown, the other being the Muslims Association of PEI. As of mid-2014,there are between 250 to 300 families, mostly in Charlottetown. The Muslims of Charlottetown see their community as symbolically important for this nation since this is known as the "birthplace of Canada". Yet we were established as the "Dominion of Canada" with an appeal not only to monarchial authority, but even more to God's higher Biblical authority as shown in Psalm 72:8, "May he have dominion from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth." Let us intercede together for: - the growing Muslim population of Charlottetown and spreading outward through PEI to encounter the Prince of Peace. - believers to have faith and vision to reach out to the Muslim Community in contextual ways to share the Gospel - churches and ministries to rise up in wisdom, knowledge and understanding, giving and training, coaching and encouragement to believers reaching out to Muslims locally. - a prayer movement to be established, feeding a growing move of Yahweh's Spirit in His churches and people , and an awakening an openness and spiritual hunger in Muslims for relationship with the Father through the Son. Adding further 30 days of prayer for the Muslim World 24 April to 23 May 2020 Under the Keep Praying page When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and, of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be decorated and festivals will be held. For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of Islam. You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak", which means Blessed Eid!" Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you know, and Muslims around the world: - Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue. Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other, "What does this mean?" 13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine." Peter's Speech at Pentecost 14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to my words. 15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is the third hour of the day. 16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God, 'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.' - Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective discipleship movements among Muslim people. - Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus. Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the house." Ideas for prayer - Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you - Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving Christ among Muslim people - Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality." - When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
