Luke 14:25-35

The Cost of Discipleship
Mt 10:37-38

25 Large crowds went with Him. And He turned and said to them,
26 (Mt 10:37; Jn 12:25) "If anyone comes to Me and does not hate
his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes,
and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.
27 (Mt 10:38; Jn 19:17) And whoever does not bear his cross
and follow Me cannot be My disciple.
28 (Pr 24:27) "For who among you, intending to build a tower,
does not sit down first and count the cost to see whether
he has resources to complete it?
29 Otherwise, perhaps, after he has laid the foundation
and is not able to complete it, all who see it will begin to mock him,
30 saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to complete it.'
31 (Pr 20:18) "Or what king, going to wage war against another king,
does not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able
with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?
32 Otherwise, while the other is yet at a distance, he sends a delegation
and requests conditions of peace.
33 (Lk 14:26; Php 3:7-8) So likewise, any of you who does not forsake
all that he has cannot be My disciple.

[25] And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto
them,
[26] If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife,
and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he
cannot be my disciple.
[27] And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my
disciple.
[28] For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first,
and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
[29] Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to
finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
[30] Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
[31] Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down
first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that
cometh against him with twenty thousand?
[32] Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an
ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.
[33] So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he
hath, he cannot be my disciple.

Tasteless Salt
Mt 5:13; Mk 9:50

34 (Mt 5:13) "Salt is good. But if the salt has lost its saltiness,
how shall it be made salty?
35 (Mt 11:15) It is fit neither for the land nor for the manure pile.
So men throw it out.
"He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

[34] Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it
be seasoned?
[35] It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast
it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 

Luke 15

The Parable of the Lost Sheep
Mt 18:12-14

1 Now all the tax collectors and sinners drew near to Him to hear Him.
2 (Mt 9:11; Lk 5:30) But the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying,
"This Man receives sinners and eats with them."
3 So He told them this parable, saying,
4 (Eze 34:11-12; 34:16) "What man among you having a hundred sheep
and losing one of them does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness
and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?
5 And when he has found it, he places it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6 (1Pe 2:25) Then when he comes home, he calls together his friends
and neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me,
for I have found my sheep which was lost.'
7 (Lk 5:32) Likewise, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over
one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous men who need
no repentance.

[1] Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.
[2] And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth

[3] And he spake this parable unto them, saying,
[4] What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth
not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is
lost, until he find it?
[5] And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
[6] And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours,
saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.
[7] I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner
that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no
repentance.

The Parable of the Lost Coin

8 "Or what woman, having ten silver coins
(Gk. drachmas, each worth about a day's wage.)
and losing one, does not light a candle and sweep the house
and search diligently until she finds it?
9 And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors,
saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost.'
10 (Heb 1:14) Likewise, I tell you, there is joy in the presence
of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

[8] Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece,
doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she
find it?
[9] And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours
together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had
lost.
[10] Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of
God over one sinner that repenteth.

The Parable of the Prodigal Son

11 Then He said, "A man had two sons.
12 (Mk 12:44; Lk 15:30) The younger of them said to his father,
'Father, give me the share of the property that falls to me.'
So he divided his estate between them.
13 (Lk 15:30; 16:1) "Not many days later, the younger son gathered
everything together, and journeyed to a distant country, and there
squandered his possessions in prodigal living.
14 When he had spent everything, there came a severe famine in that country,
and he began to be in want.
15 So he went and hired himself to a citizen of that county,
who sent him into his fields to feed swine.
16 He would gladly have filled his stomach with the husks
that the swine were eating, but no one gave him any.
17 "When he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired
servants have an abundance of bread, and here I am perishing with hunger!
18 (Lk 15:21; 18:13) I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him,
"Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.
19 (Lk 7:6-7) I am no longer worthy to be called your son.
Make me like one of your hired servants." '
20 (Ac 20:37; Ge 45:14) So he arose and came to his father.
"But while he was yet far away, his father saw him
and was moved with compassion, and ran and embraced his neck and kissed him.
21 (Ps 51:4; Lk 15:18-19) "The son said to him,
'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.
I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'
22 (Ge 41:42; Rev 6:11) "But the father said to his servants,
'Bring out the best robe and put it on him.
And put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet.
23 Bring here the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and be merry.
24 (Lk 15:32; Eph 2:1) For this son of mine was dead, and is alive again;
he was lost, and is found.' So they began to be merry.
25 "Now his older son was in the field. As he came and drew near the house,
he heard music and dancing.
26 So he called one of the servants and asked what this meant.
27 He said to him, 'Your brother has come, and your father has killed
the fattened calf, because he has received him safe and sound.'
28 "He was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out
and entreated him.
29 But he answered his father, 'Look! These many years have I served you.
Nor have I ever transgressed your commands, yet never have you given me
a goat, so that I might be merry with my friends.
30 (Pr 29:3; Lk 15:12-13) But when this son of yours came,
who has devoured your living with harlots,
you killed the fattened calf for him.'
31 "He said to him, 'Son, you are always with me,
and all that I have is yours.
32 (Lk 15:24) But it was fitting to be merry and be glad,
for this brother of yours was dead and is alive again;
he was lost and is found.'"

[11] And he said, A certain man had two sons:

of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
[13] And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took
his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous
living.
[14] And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land;
and he began to be in want.
[15] And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he
sent him into his fields to feed swine.
[16] And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine
did eat: and no man gave unto him.
[17] And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my
father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
[18] I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have
sinned against heaven, and before thee,
[19] And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired
servants.
[20] And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way
off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck,
and kissed him.
[21] And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in
thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
[22] But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put

[29] And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve
thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never
gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
[30] But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living
with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.
[31] And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have
is thine.
[32] It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy
brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

Luke 16
The Parable of the Dishonest Steward

1 (Lk 15:13; 12:42) He told His disciples: "There was a rich man who had
a steward who was accused to the man of wasting his resources.
2 So he called him and said, 'How is it that I hear this about you?
Give an account of your stewardship, for you may no longer be steward.'
3 "Then the steward said to himself, 'What shall I do, for my master
is taking away the stewardship from me? I cannot dig. I am ashamed to beg.
4 I know what to do so that, when I am removed from the stewardship,
others may receive me into their houses.'
5 "So he called each of his master's debtors, and said to the first,
'How much do you owe my master?'
6 "He said, 'Eight hundred gallons (Gk. 100 batous, or 3 kiloliters.) of oil.'
"He said to him, 'Take your bill,
and sit down quickly and write four hundred."
7 "Then he said to another, 'And how much do you owe?'
"He said, 'One thousand bushels (Gk. 100 korous, or 35 kiloliters.) of wheat.'
"He said to him, 'Take your bill, and write eight hundred.'
8 (Jn 12:36; Eph 5:8) "The master commended the dishonest steward,
because he had acted prudently. For the sons of this world are wiser
in their own generation than the sons of light.
9 (Mt 19:21; Lk 16:11) I say to you, make friends for yourself by means
of unrighteous wealth, so that when you fall short,
they may receive you into eternal dwellings.
10 (Mt 25:21; Lk 19:17) "He who is faithful in what is least is faithful
also in much. And he who is dishonest in the least is dishonest also in much.
11 So if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth,
who will commit to your trust the true riches?
12 And if you have not been faithful in that which is another man's,
who will give you that which is your own?
13 (Mt 6:24; Lk 16:9) "No servant can serve two masters.
Either he will hate the one and love the other,
or he will be loyal to the one and despise the other.
You cannot serve God and wealth."

[1] And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which
had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his
goods.
[2] And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of
thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer
steward.
[3] Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord
taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.
[4] I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship,
they may receive me into their houses.
[5] So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him, and said unto the
first, How much owest thou unto my lord?
[6] And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy
bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.
[7] Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An
hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write
fourscore.
[8] And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely:
for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the
children of light.
[9] And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of
unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting
habitations.
[10] He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much:
and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
[11] If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who
will commit to your trust the true riches?
[12] And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who
shall give you that which is your own?
[13] No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and
love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye
cannot serve God and mammon.

The Law and the Kingdom of God
Mt 11:12-13

14 (Lk 23:35; 20:47) The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these
things and derided Him.
15 (1Sa 16:7; Lk 10:29) He said to them, "You are those who justify
yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts.
For that which is highly esteemed before men is an abomination before God.
16 (Mt 3:2) "The Law and the Prophets were preached until John.
Since then the kingdom of God has been preached,
and everyone is pressing into it.
17 (Mt 5:18) It is easier for heaven and earth to pass away
than for one stroke of the law to fail.
18 (Mt 19:9) "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery,
and whoever marries her who is divorced by her husband commits adultery."

[14] And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and
they derided him.
[15] And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men;
but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is
abomination in the sight of God.
[16] The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom
of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
[17] And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the
law to fail.
[18] Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth
adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband
committeth adultery.

The Rich Man and Lazarus

19 (Est 8:15; Eze 16:49) "There was a rich man who was clothed in purple
and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day.
20 (Ac 3:2) There was also a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores,
who had been placed at his gate,
21 (Mt 15:27) desiring to be fed the crumbs falling from the rich man's table.
Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 (Jn 13:23) "It came to pass that the beggar died
and was carried by the angels to Abraham's presence.
The rich man also died and was buried.
23 (Ps 9:17; Isa 14:9) In Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes
and saw Abraham from a distance and Lazarus in his presence.
24 (Mt 25:41; Lk 16:30) So he cried out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me,
and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue.
For I am tormented in this flame.'
25 (Lk 6:24; Ps 17:14) "But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that you in your
lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things.
But now he is comforted and you are tormented.
26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf,
so that those who would pass from here to you cannot,
nor can those from there pass to us.'
27 "He said, 'Then I pray you, father, to send him to my father's house,
28 for I have five brothers, to testify to them, lest they also come
to this place of torment.'
29 (Ac 15:21) "Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the Prophets.
Let them hear them.'
30 (Lk 16:24) "He said, 'No, father Abraham. But if someone from the dead
goes to them, they will repent.'
31 (Jn 12:10-11) "He said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets,
neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.' "

[30] And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the
dead, they will repent.
[31] And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither
will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

Luke 17:1-10

Some Sayings of Jesus
Mt 18:6-7, 21-22; Mk 9:42

1 (Mt 18:7; 1Co 11:19) Then He said to the disciples, "It is impossible
except that offenses will come. But woe to him through whom they come!
2 (Mk 9:42) It would be better for him if a millstone were hung
around his neck and he was thrown into the sea, than to offend one
of these little ones.
3 (Lev 19:17; Mt 18:21) Take heed to yourselves.
"If your brother sins against you, rebuke him. And if he repents, forgive him.
4 (Mt 18:21-22) If he sins against you seven times in a day,
and seven times in a day turns to you, saying, 'I repent,'
you must forgive him."
5 (Mk 6:30; 9:24) The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith."
6 (Mt 17:20; Mk 9:23) The Lord said, "If you had faith as a grain of mustard
seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and be planted
in the sea,' and it would obey you.
7 "Which of you, having a servant plowing or herding sheep,
will say to him when he has come in from the field,
'Come now and sit down for dinner'?
8 (Lk 12:37) Will he not rather say to him, 'Prepare my supper,
and dress yourself and serve me until I eat and drink.
And afterward you will eat and drink'?
9 Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded? I think not.
10 (Job 22:2-3; Mt 25:30) So you also, when you have done everything
commanded you, say, 'We are unprofitable servants. We have done our duty.'"

unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat?
[8] And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and
gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward
thou shalt eat and drink?
[9] Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded
him? I trow not.
[10] So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are
commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which
was our duty to do.

John 11:1-37

The Death of Lazarus

1 (Mt 21:17) Now a man was sick, Lazarus from Bethany,
the village of Mary and her sister Martha.
2 (Jn 12:3; Mk 14:3) This was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment
and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.
3 (Jn 11:5; 11:36) So the sisters sent word to Him, saying,
"Lord, he whom You love is sick."
4 (Jn 9:3; 11:40) When Jesus heard this, He said, "This sickness is not
unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God
may be glorified by it."
5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
6 So when He heard that he was sick, He remained where He was two more days.
7 Then after this He said to the disciples, "Let us go into Judea again."
8 (Jn 10:31; 8:59) His disciples said to Him,
"Rabbi, the Jews were just trying to stone You. Are You going there again?"
9 (Jn 9:4; 12:35) Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours in the day?
If anyone walks during the day, he does not stumble,
because he sees the light of this world.
10 (Jer 13:16) But if anyone walks during the night, he stumbles,
because the light is not in him."
11 (Da 12:2; Ac 7:60) After He said this, He said to them, "Our friend Lazarus
has fallen asleep. But I am going that I may awaken him from sleep."
12 Then His disciples said, "Lord, if he is sleeping, he will be well."
13 Jesus had spoken of his death. But they thought that He was speaking
of getting rest through sleep.
14 So then Jesus plainly told them, "Lazarus is dead.
15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there,
so that you may believe. Nevertheless let us go to him."
16 (Mt 10:3; Jn 21:2) Then Thomas, who is called Didymus,
said to his fellow disciples, "Let us go also, that we may die with Him."

in him.
[11] These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend
Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
[12] Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
[13] Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken
of taking of rest in sleep.
[14] Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
[15] And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may
believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
[16] Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellow disciples,
Let us also go, that we may die with him.

Jesus the Resurrection and the Life

17 (Jn 11:39) When Jesus arrived, He found that he had been in the tomb
four days already.
18 Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, less than two miles away.
(Gk. 15 stadia, or about 3 kilometers.)
19 (Job 2:11; Jn 11:31) Many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary,
to comfort them concerning their brother.
20 (Lk 10:38-42) When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went
and met Him, but Mary remained in the house.
21 (Jn 11:32; 11:37) Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if You had been here,
my brother would not have died.
22 (Jn 9:31; 11:41-42) But even now I know that whatever You may ask of God,
God will give You."
23 Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."
24 (Jn 5:28-29; Ac 24:15) Martha said to Him,
"I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day."
25 (Jn 1:4; 1Th 4:14) Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life.
He who believes in Me, though he may die, yet shall he live.
26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"
27 (Mt 16:16; Jn 6:14) She said to Him, "Yes, Lord, I believe that
You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world."

[17] Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days
already.
[18] Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:
[19] And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them
concerning their brother.
[20] Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met
him: but Mary sat still in the house.

Jesus Weeps

28 (Jn 13:13; Mt 26:18) When she had said this, she went her way
and secretly called her sister Mary, saying, "
The Teacher has come and is calling for you."
29 When she heard this, she rose quickly and went to Him.
30 Now Jesus had not yet entered the village, but was in the place
where Martha met Him.

The Calming of a Storm
Mt 8:23-27; Lk 8:22-25

35 (Mt 8:18; Lk 8:22) That same day, when the evening came, He said to them,
"Let us go cross to the other side."
36 (Mk 3:9; 4:1) When they had sent the crowd away, they took Him in the boat
just as He was. There were also other little boats with Him.
37 A great wind storm arose, and the waves splashed into the boat,
so that it was now filling the boat.
38 He was in the stern asleep on a pillow. They woke Him and said,
"Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?"
39 (Job 38:11; Ps 89:9) He rose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea,
"Peace, be still!" Then the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
40 (Mt 14:31; Lk 8:25) He said to them, "Why are you so fearful?
How is that you have no faith?"
41 They feared greatly and said to one another,
"What kind of Man is He, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?"

[35] And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us
pass over unto the other side.
[36] And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was
in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
[37] And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the

[40] And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no
faith?
[41] And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of
man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

My three-year-old niece is beginning to understand that she can trust Jesus in
any situation. One night as she prayed before bedtime during a thunderstorm, 
she pressed her hands together, closed her eyes, and said, "Dear Jesus, I know
You're here with us. I know You love us. And I know that the storm will stop 
when You tell it to stop."

I suspect she had recently heard the story of Jesus and the disciples as they 
crossed the Sea of Galilee. It’s the one where Jesus fell asleep in the back 
of the boat just before a squall nearly capsized the vessel. The disciples 
woke Him and said, "Don't you care if we drown?" Jesus didn't speak to them 
but instead addressed the natural world: "Quiet! Be still!" (Mark 4:38-39).

Immediately the water stopped splashing into the boat. The howling wind 
subsided. There in the silence, Jesus looked at His followers and said, 
"Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?" (v. 40). I imagine 
their wide eyes staring back at Him as water coursed down their faces 
and dripped from their beards.

What if we could live today with the awe the disciples felt in that moment? 
What if we could view every concern with a fresh awareness of Jesus' authority
and power? Maybe then our childlike faith would chase away our fear. Maybe 
then we would believe that each storm we face is at His mercy.

Week 6 Showing Grace to Others - Day 3 The Kind Heart of Forgiveness

Ephesians 4:32

32 (2Co 2:10; Col 3:12-13; Mt 6:12) And be kind one to another,
tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.

32 and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another,
even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Don had lost his job because he stood against his boss and refused to
compromise his Christian principles. Certain friends in the company had
turned against him, choosing to save their own jobs at any cost,
and he felt very alone, abandoned when he most needed the support
of those who cared.
But Don showed no signs of bitterness or unforgiveness. He refused to
recite the details of his firing to those around him, saying simply and
honestly, " I believe my boss was wrong in what he did. But God can show
him." The kindness of Don's heart, and the tenderness with which he
extended forgiveness, became a testimony to all who knew him. Don's
boss never "saw the light", never repented, but Don lived in the freedom of
forgiving.
Comparison is a rare commodity among Christains today. We seem to be
overstocked with judgment and crammed full of condemnation, but we have
little space in the corners of our lives for tenderheartedness. We are quick
to assume that we know another person's heart and have the remedy for
the problem, rather then giving that person the benefit of the doubt,
the room to grow, the freedom to make a mistake and seek forgiveness.
Jesus demonstrated the king compassion necessary in forgiveness when he
looked down at the soldiers who has crucified him, gambling at his feet
for his cloak, and said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what
are doing."
When others hurt and betray us, they often "do not know what they are
doing." we can, in Christ, offer compassionate forgiveness to them -
not condoning their actions or excusing their wrong, but forgiving ,
in the simplicity and purity of God's love.

Application

a) What is the difference between excusing a wrong and forgiving?

b) How has God forgiven me for Christ's sake?

c) What does today's verse tell me about my attitude in forgiveness?

Charlottetown does not currently (fall 2014) have a local CNMM network.
Pray with us for God's people to come together in reaching Muslims
cooperatively across denominational and organisational lines.

More than 200 attended the Eid festival at the end of Ramadan, the Islamic
month of fasting during daylight hours and the reading of the Qur'an, at
the Dar as-Salam mosque in 2014. This second mosque established
in Charlottetown, the other being the Muslims Association of PEI.
As of mid-2014,there are between 250 to 300 families, mostly in Charlottetown.

The Muslims of Charlottetown see their community as symbolically important
for this nation since this is known as the "birthplace of Canada". Yet we were
established as the "Dominion of Canada" with an appeal not only to
monarchial authority, but even more to God's higher Biblical authority as
shown in Psalm 72:8, "May he have dominion from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth."
Let us intercede together for:

- the growing Muslim population of Charlottetown and spreading
outward through PEI to encounter the Prince of Peace.
- believers to have faith and vision to reach out to the Muslim Community
in contextual ways to share the Gospel
- churches and ministries to rise up in wisdom, knowledge and understanding,
giving and training, coaching and encouragement to believers reaching
out to Muslims locally.
- a prayer movement to be established, feeding a growing move of Yahweh's
Spirit in His churches and people , and an awakening an openness
and spiritual hunger in Muslims for relationship with the Father
through the Son.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

Peter's Speech at Pentecost

14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice
and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,
let this be known to you, and listen to my words.
15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose,
since it is the third hour of the day.
16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,
'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.'

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity

Pray to the Lord: "Dear Jesus, please increase my 
faith as I meditate on Your power and presence."

Pray to the Lord and pray to have an attitude of forgiveness.

Pray to the Lord and pray to know the Lord is with you.

Pray to the Lord and pray to give Him all your temptations.
