NUMBERS 25

Moab Seduces Israel

1 (Jos 2:1; Nu 33:49) While Israel dwelt in Shittim, the people began to 
commit harlotry with the women of Moab. 
2 (1Co 10:20; Ex 20:5) They called the people to the sacrifices 
of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods. 
3 (Jos 22:17; Hos 9:10) Israel joined himself to the Baal of Peor, 
and the anger of the Lord was inflamed against Israel.
4 (Dt 13:17; 4:3) The Lord said to Moses, "Take all the chiefs of the people 
and hang them before the Lord in the sun, that the fierce 
anger of the Lord turn from Israel."
5 (Ex 18:21) Moses said to the judges of Israel, 
"Kill each of the men who have aligned themselves with the Baal of Peor."
6 (Joel 2:17; Nu 22:4) Behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought 
to his brothers a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses and in the sight 
of all the assembly of the children of Israel, who were weeping 
before the door of the tent of meeting. 
7 (Ex 6:25) When Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, 
saw it, he rose up from among the assembly and took a spear in his hand, 
8 (Nu 16:46-48) and he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust 
both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman through her belly. 
So the plague was stopped from the children of Israel. 
9 (1Co 10:8; Nu 16:49-50) Those that died in the plague were 24000.
10 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 
11 (Dt 32:16; 32:21) "Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron 
the priest, has turned My wrath away from the children of Israel, 
because he was zealous for My sake among them, so I did not exterminate 
the children of Israel in My zeal. 
12 (Mal 2:4-5) Therefore say, 'I hereby grant him My covenant of peace. 
13 (Ex 40:15; 1Ch 6:4-15) And it will be for him and his seed after him, 
even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was zealous 
for his God and made an atonement for the children of Israel.'"
14 Now the name of the slain Israelite who was slain with the Midianite 
woman was Zimri the son of Salu, 
a leader of a chief house among the Simeonites. 
15 (Nu 31:8; Jos 13:21) The name of the Midianite woman that was slain 
was Kozbi the daughter of Zur. 
He was chief over a people and of a father's house in Midian.
16 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 
17 "Be hostile to the Midianites, and defeat them, 
18 (Rev 2:14) because they have been hostile to you with their wiles, 
with which they have deceived you in the matter of Peor 
and in the matter of Kozbi the daughter of a leader of Midian, 
their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague because of Peor."

Numbers 25
[1] And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom
with the daughters of Moab.
[2] And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the
people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.
[3] And Israel joined himself unto Baal-peor: and the anger of the LORD was
kindled against Israel.
[4] And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang
them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD
may be turned away from Israel.
[5] And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that
were joined unto Baal-peor.
[6] And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his
brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all
the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door
of the tabernacle of the congregation.
[7] And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw
it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;
[8] And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of
them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the
plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
[9] And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.
[10] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
[11] Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned
my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake
among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
[12] Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:
[13] And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an
everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an
atonement for the children of Israel.
[14] Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with
the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house
among the Simeonites.
[15] And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the
daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.
[16] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
[17] Vex the Midianites, and smite them:
[18] For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in
the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of
Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's
sake. 

NUMBERS 26

The Second Census

1 (Nu 25:9) After the plague, the Lord spoke to Moses 
and to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, saying, 
2 (Ex 38:25-26; Nu 1:2-3) "Take the count of all the assembly 
of the children of Israel from twenty years old and older, 
throughout their fathers' houses, all that are able to go to war in Israel." 
3 (Nu 22:1; 33:48) Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke with them 
in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying, 
4 (Nu 1:1) "Take the count of the people from twenty years old and older," 
as the Lord commanded Moses.
The children of Israel, who went out of the land of Egypt, were these:
5 (1Ch 5:3; Ge 46:8-9) Reuben, the oldest son of Israel. The children 
of Reuben:
of Hanok, from whom comes the family of the Hanokites;
of Pallu, the family of the Palluites;
6 of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites;
of Karmi, the family of the Karmites.
7 These are the families of the Reubenites: 
those who were counted were 43730.
8 The son of Pallu was Eliab. 
9 (Nu 1:16) The sons of Eliab were Nemuel, and Dathan, and Abiram. 
This is that Dathan and Abiram, called out from the assembly, who 
argued against Moses and against Aaron in the company of Korah 
when they argued against the Lord. 
10 (Nu 16:38; 16:31-35; 2Pe 2:6) And the earth opened its mouth 
and swallowed them with Korah when that company died, 
when the fire devoured 2050, and they became a sign. 
11 (Ex 6:24) But the children of Korah did not die.
12 (1Ch 4:24; Ge 46:10) The sons of Simeon by their families were:
of Nemuel, the family of the Nemuelites;
of Jamin, the family of the Jaminites;
of Jakin, the family of the Jakinites;
13 (Ge 46:10) of Zerah, the family of the Zerahites;
of Shaul, the family of the Shaulites.
14 These are the families of the Simeonites: 22200.
15 (Ge 46:16) The children of Gad by their families were:
of Zephon, the family of the Zephonites;
of Haggi, the family of the Haggites;
of Shuni, the family of the Shunites;
16 of Ozni, the family of the Oznites;
of Eri, the family of the Erites;
17 of Arodi, the family of the Arodites;
of Areli, the family of the Arelites.
18 These are the families of the children of Gad according 
to those by their count: 4500 .
19 (Ge 46:12) The sons of Judah were Er and Onan, 
and Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan.
20 (Ge 46:12; Ne 11:24) The sons of Judah after their families were:
of Shelah, the family of the Shelanites;
of Perez, the family of the Perezites;
of Zerah, the family of the Zerahites.
21 The sons of Perez were:
of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites;
of Hamul, the family of the Ha­mulites.
22 These are the families of Judah by their count: 76500 .
23 (Ge 46:13; 1Ch 7:1) The sons of Issachar by their families were:
of Tola, the family of the Tolaites;
of Puah, the family of the Puites;
24 (Ge 46:13) of Jashub, the family of the Ja­shubites;
of Shimron, the family of the Shimronites.
25These are the families of Issachar by their count: 64300 .
26 (Ge 46:14) The sons of Zebulun by their families were:
of Sered, the family of the Seredites;
of Elon, the family of the Elonites;
of Jahleel, the family of the Jahleelites.
27 These are the families of the Zebulunites by their count: 60500 .
28 (Ge 46:20) The sons of Joseph according to their families, 
by Manasseh and Ephraim, were:
29 (Jos 17:1; Nu 36:1) The sons of Manasseh:
of Makir, the family of the Makirites, and Makir begot Gilead;
of Gilead, the family of the Gileadites.
30 (Jdg 6:11; Jos 17:2) These are the sons of Gilead:
of Iezer, the family of the Iezerites;
of Helek, the family of the Helekites;
31 and of Asriel, the family of the Asrielites;
and of Shechem, the family of the Shechemites;
32 and of Shemida, the family of the Shemidaites;
and of Hepher, the family of the Hepherites.
33 (Nu 27:1) Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons, but daughters, 
and the names of the daughters of Zelophehad were Mahlah, 
Noah, Hoglah, Milkah, and Tirzah.
34 These are the families of Manasseh, 
and those who were numbered of them were 52700 .
35 These are the sons of Ephraim according to their families:
of Shuthelah, the family of the Shuthelahites;
of Beker, the family of the Bekerites;
of Tahan, the family of the Tahanites.
36 These are the sons of Shuthelah:
of Eran, the family of the Eranites.
37 These are the families of the sons of Ephraim by their count: 32500.
These are the sons of Joseph by their families.
38 (1Ch 8:1) The sons of Benjamin by their families were:
of Bela, the family of the Belaites;
of Ashbel, the family of the Ashbelites;
of Ahiram, the family of the Ahiramites;
39 of Shupham, the family of the Shuphamites;
of Hupham, the family of the Huphamites.
40 (1Ch 8:3) The sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman:
of Ard, the family of the Ardites;
and of Naaman, the family of the Naamites.
41 These are the sons of Benjamin by their families, 
and by their count: 45600 .
42 (Ge 46:23) These are the sons of Dan according to their families:
of Shuham, the family of the Shuhamites.
These are the families of Dan after their families. 
43 All the families of the Shuhamites, by their count, were 64400 .
44 (Ge 46:17; 1Ch 7:30) The sons of Asher by their families were:
of Imnah, the family of the Imnites;
of Ishvi, the family of the Ishvites;
of Beriah, the family of the Beriites.
45 of the sons of Beriah were:
of Heber, the family of the Heber­ites;
of Malkiel, the family of the Mal­kielites.
46 The name of the daughter of Asher was Serah.
47These are the families of the sons of Asher by their count: 53400.
48 (Ge 46:24; 1Ch 7:13) Of the sons of Naphtali by their families were:
of Jahzeel, the family of the Jahzeelites;
of Guni, the family of the Gunites;
49 (1Ch 7:13) of Jezer, the family of the Jezerites;
of Shillem, the family of the Shillemites.
50 These are the families of Naphtali according to their families; 
those who were numbered of them were 45400 .
51 (Nu 1:46) These were the counted of the children of Israel: 601730.
52 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 
53 (Jos 11:23; 14:1) To these the land will be divided for an inheritance 
by the number of names. 
54 (Nu 33:54) To a large tribe you shall give a large inheritance, 
and to small tribe you shall give a small inheritance. 
To each one his inheritance will be given according 
to those who were numbered of him. 
55 (Nu 33:54; 34:13) But the land will be divided by lot. 
By the names of the tribes of their fathers they will inherit. 
56 According to the lot his possession 
will be divided between large and small.
57 (Ge 46:11; Ex 6:16-19) These are those counted of the Levites
 by their families:
of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites;
of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites;
of Merari, the family of the Merarites.
58 These are the families of the Levites:
the family of the Libnites,
the family of the Hebronites,
the family of the Mahlites,
the family of the Mushites,
the family of the Korahites.
And Kohath begot Amram. 
59 (Ex 6:20; 2:1-2) And the name of the wife of Amram was Jochebed, 
the daughter of Levi, whom her mother bore to Levi in Egypt, 
and she bore to Amram Aaron and Moses and Miriam their sister. 
60 (Nu 3:2) To Aaron was born Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 
61 (Lev 10:1-2; Nu 3:4) Nadab and Abihu died 
when they offered foreign fire before the Lord.
62 (Nu 1:49; 3:39) Those who were numbered of them were 23000, 
each male from a month old and older; for they were not counted 
among the children of Israel, because there was no inheritance 
given them among the children of Israel.
63 These were counted by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who counted 
the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho. 
64 (Dt 2:14-15) But among these there was not a man counted by Moses 
and Aaron the priest when they counted the children of Israel 
in the Wilderness of Sinai 
65 (Nu 14:28-30; 14:38) because the Lord had said of them, 
"They will surely die in the wilderness." And there was not a man left 
of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

Numbers 26
[1] And it came to pass after the plague, that the LORD spake unto Moses and
unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, saying,
[2] Take the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, from
twenty years old and upward, throughout their father's house, all that are
able to go to war in Israel.
[3] And Moses and Eleazar the priest spake with them in the plains of Moab
by Jordan near Jericho, saying,
[4] Take the sum of the people, from twenty years old and upward; as the
LORD commanded Moses and the children of Israel, which went forth out of the
land of Egypt.
[5] Reuben, the eldest son of Israel: the children of Reuben; Hanoch, of
whom cometh the family of the Hanochites: of Pallu, the family of the
Palluites:
[6] Of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites: of Carmi, the family of the
Carmites.
[7] These are the families of the Reubenites: and they that were numbered of
them were fourty and three thousand and seven hundred and thirty.
[8] And the sons of Pallu; Eliab.
[9] And the sons of Eliab; Nemuel, and Dathan, and Abiram. This is that
Dathan and Abiram, which were famous in the congregation, who strove against
Moses and against Aaron in the company of Korah, when they strove against
the LORD:
[10] And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up together with
Korah, when that company died, what time the fire devoured two hundred and
fifty men: and they became a sign.
[11] Notwithstanding the children of Korah died not.
[12] The sons of Simeon after their families: of Nemuel, the family of the
Nemuelites: of Jamin, the family of the Jaminites: of Jachin, the family of
the Jachinites:
[13] Of Zerah, the family of the Zarhites: of Shaul, the family of the
Shaulites.
[14] These are the families of the Simeonites, twenty and two thousand and
two hundred.
[15] The children of Gad after their families: of Zephon, the family of the
Zephonites: of Haggi, the family of the Haggites: of Shuni, the family of
the Shunites:
[16] Of Ozni, the family of the Oznites: of Eri, the family of the Erites:

family of the Zarhites.
[21] And the sons of Pharez were; of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites:

[22] These are the families of Judah according to those that were numbered
of them, threescore and sixteen thousand and five hundred.
[23] Of the sons of Issachar after their families: of Tola, the family of
the Tolaites: of Pua, the family of the Punites:
[24] Of Jashub, the family of the Jashubites: of Shimron, the family of the
Shimronites.
[25] These are the families of Issachar according to those that were
numbered of them, threescore and four thousand and three hundred.
[26] Of the sons of Zebulun after their families: of Sered, the family of
the Sardites: of Elon, the family of the Elonites: of Jahleel, the family of
the Jahleelites.
[27] These are the families of the Zebulunites according to those that were
numbered of them, threescore thousand and five hundred.
[28] The sons of Joseph after their families were Manasseh and Ephraim.
[29] Of the sons of Manasseh: of Machir, the family of the Machirites: and
Machir begat Gilead: of Gilead come the family of the Gileadites.
[30] These are the sons of Gilead: of Jeezer, the family of the Jeezerites:
of Helek, the family of the Helekites:
[31] And of Asriel, the family of the Asrielites: and of Shechem, the family
of the Shechemites:
[32] And of Shemida, the family of the Shemidaites: and of Hepher, the

the sons of Joseph after their families.
[38] The sons of Benjamin after their families: of Bela, the family of the
Belaites: of Ashbel, the family of the Ashbelites: of Ahiram, the family of
the Ahiramites:
[39] Of Shupham, the family of the Shuphamites: of Hupham, the family of the
Huphamites.
[40] And the sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman: of Ard, the family of the
Ardites: and of Naaman, the family of the Naamites.
[41] These are the sons of Benjamin after their families: and they that were
numbered of them were forty and five thousand and six hundred.
[42] These are the sons of Dan after their families: of Shuham, the family
of the Shuhamites. These are the families of Dan after their families.
[43] All the families of the Shuhamites, according to those that were
numbered of them, were threescore and four thousand and four hundred.
[44] Of the children of Asher after their families: of Jimna, the family of
the Jimnites: of Jesui, the family of the Jesuites: of Beriah, the family of
the Beriites.
[45] Of the sons of Beriah: of Heber, the family of the Heberites: of
Malchiel, the family of the Malchielites.
[46] And the name of the daughter of Asher was Sarah.
[47] These are the families of the sons of Asher according to those that
were numbered of them; who were fifty and three thousand and four hundred.
[48] Of the sons of Naphtali after their families: of Jahzeel, the family of
the Jahzeelites: of Guni, the family of the Gunites:
[49] Of Jezer, the family of the Jezerites: of Shillem, the family of the
Shillemites.
[50] These are the families of Naphtali according to their families: and
they that were numbered of them were forty and five thousand and four
hundred.
[51] These were the numbered of the children of Israel, six hundred thousand
and a thousand seven hundred and thirty.
[52] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
[53] Unto these the land shall be divided for an inheritance according to
the number of names.
[54] To many thou shalt give the more inheritance, and to few thou shalt
give the less inheritance: to every one shall his inheritance be given
according to those that were numbered of him.
[55] Notwithstanding the land shall be divided by lot: according to the
names of the tribes of their fathers they shall inherit.
[56] According to the lot shall the possession thereof be divided between
many and few.
[57] And these are they that were numbered of the Levites after their
families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites: of Kohath, the family
of the Kohathites: of Merari, the family of the Merarites.
[58] These are the families of the Levites: the family of the Libnites, the

priest numbered, when they numbered the children of Israel in the wilderness
of Sinai.
[65] For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness.
And there was not left a man of them, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and
Joshua the son of Nun.

Roamns 5:1-5

Results of Justification

1 (Jn 14:27; Ro 4:5) Therefore, since we have been justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
2 (1Co 15:1; Eph 2:18) through whom we also have access by faith
into this grace in which we stand, and so we rejoice in hope of the glory
of God.
3 (Jas 1:2-3; 1:12) Not only so, but we also boast in tribulation,
knowing that tribulation produces patience,
4 (Jas 1:12) patience produces character, and character produces hope.
5 (Gal 4:6; Php 1:20) And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God
is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Romans 5
[1] Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our
Lord Jesus Christ:
[2] By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand,
and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
[3] And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that
tribulation worketh patience;
[4] And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
[5] And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in
our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
 
Jess was getting on in years when he first heard the children's folktale about
the boy and the butterfly. Right away, he understood the story's lesson on 
gaining strength from struggle. In the tale, a boy is given a butterfly cocoon
but told not to open it. But as the cocoon slowly twists and shudders in his
 hand, the boy can't resist using scissors to split it open so the butterfly 
 inside can escape.

Freed from the struggle, however, the butterfly falls to the ground and dies 
without ever flying. "What happened?" the boy cries. Jess, after a long life, 
understood instantly. "The boy prevented the butterfly from using the muscles 
needed to grow strong and fly."

The children's lesson may be a fable, but it affirms the bracing biblical 
truth taught by Paul to persecuted believers in Jesus in Rome: "We also glory 
in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 
perseverance, character; and character, hope" (Romans 5:3-4).

Paul wasn't saying to celebrate pain or deny its heartbreak. He confirmed 
instead that God will use life's troubles to build our character, growing 
our hope in Him.

It's in His strength that God develops our trust in His overcoming power. 
The butterfly was cheated from growing stronger to fly. But in Christ, we can 
rejoice as struggles lift us with character to God our deliverer.

Week 1 Knowing God's Word Day 5 - Learning by Heart

Ps 119:9,11

9 (Ps 38:6; 18:2) How shall a young man keep his way pure?
By keeping it according to Your word.
11 (Ps 42:5; 43:5) Your word I have hidden in my heart,
that I might not sin against You.

9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?
By taking heed thereto according to thy word.
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart,
That I might not sin against thee.

"His heart is not just in it," a gifted musician commented about the
pianist onstage. "He's here at the Orchestra Hall, playing for
thousands of people, an his technique is flawless, but something
is missing - his heart is just not in it."
The psalmist , in Psalm 119, draws a similar parallel. We "Keep our
way pure" through obedience of his Word, by ordering our lives according
to the commands of the Scriptures. But outward behaviour is not the only
essential factor in purity of life. The changes in our behaviour need to
come from the heart, from the inside out. Our "technique" for living
the Christian life may be flawless, but our obedience is founded
in heart motivation, something is certainly missing.
"I seek you with all my heart," the psalmist declares in verse 10.
Thus he can say in verse 11, "Your word I have hidden in my heart,
that I might not sin against You."
Often we refer to memorisation as "learning by heart" - and indeed
"by heart" is the biblical mandate for assimilating God's truth
into our daily lives. "By rote" or "By Mind" leaves us
intellectually overstuffed, yet spiritually starving.
When we try to apply the Word outwardly to our behaviour,
we end up in a tangle of legalism, a log "do list" by which
we hope to please God. But when we set our hearts toward God first,
then changes in our behaviour grow out of love for God and a deep
desire to serve him. Then we are truly loving and obeying God with
our whole hearts.

Application

a) In what ways have I tried to apply God's word to my behaviour
without having the truth firmly in my heart? What was the result?

b) How can I set my heart toward God and give myself more fully
to his Word?

c) What areas of my life need "purifying"? How can these verses
help me to "make my way pure"?

Saskatoon has seen quick growth in its Muslim population over the past
5 years, which maybe as high as 5000 today. Islamic leaders have 
focused specifically on this city , having twice already sent cohorts
of about 70 families to start mosques. There are now 7 Islamic centres
of worship and an ISlamic madrassah (school) located right next to a 
Christian school.
Of particular concern recently is the number of young adults who grew up
in evangelical churches and converted to Islam. Most of these are young
women whowere wooed by Muslim man and became emotionally bonded. 
Both prior to and after marrying, these women are known to convert to ISlam.

Agree in prayer with us for:
- entire congregations and individual believers to catch God's heart
and passion for reaching Muslims in Saskatoon and the other growing
Muslim population centres of Saskatchewan.
- for the eyes and understanding of Canadian youth to be opened to the 
  spiritual reality of Islam, and not deceived nor manipulated into
  converting to a religion which cannot offer assurance of salvation. 
- for the few workers among Muslims now engaged there, and for many more
  to be raised up into effective witness.
- for prayer and training events that are starting in Saskatoon 
  to spread and grow to other cities.

Pray for the Banjar of Kalimantan</a>

The Banjar are one of Indonesia's largest but least reached people groups. 
Numbering around 5 million, they are centered in South Kalimantan and known 
for homes built on stilts over the swamp or river. Despite being 99.9% Muslim,
God has done amazing miracles among them, resulting in many embracing Christ.

One day a local believer received a phone call. "Joy, please come. There's a 
suicidal lady on the dock's edge with a relative who also needs your help."

Before leaving, Joy prayed with her Christian friends, with one sensing that 
God wanted the woman to know that He knows her name, which she understood to 
be 'Jewel.'

Arriving at the water's edge, Joy found the suicidal lady on the dock, bound 
by fear that she’d either die or kill someone. Taking a step of faith, Joy 
encouraged the woman, saying, "God knows your name. The only one who can help 
you is Jesus. In Jesus' name, demon, leave!"

Thе lady was instantly healed of her mental illness. 
But her name wasn't Jewel - it was Hope. 

After spending some time together, Hope invited Joy to visit her relative's 
mute teenage son whom the neighbors considered crazy. Joy went along and 
shared with him about Jesus, and then prayed. God instantly healed the boy's 
mental illness and restored his speech.

His mother, 'Light', was overjoyed. Light then told Joy of another relative 
that had wanted to meet Joy but was ashamed because she was a prostitute. So 
Light, Hope and Joy went to this prostitute's house. No one knew her real 
name, not even her relatives, because everyone called her 'raw meat' or 
'donut seller.' But she was shocked when Joy spoke out her real name, which 
turned out to be Jewel! Joy shared the story of Mary Magdalene, and how Jesus
loved her in such a holy way. In tears, Jewel was eager to leave prostitution 
and follow Him.

How to Pray

    Pray for the Banjar people. Ask God that they would 
	have more encounters with Jesus' miracles and love.
	
    Pray that believers would witness boldly to their friends and neighbours.
	
    Pray for thriving spiritual communities and 
	for new believers to grow in spiritual gifts.

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .

David, the author of this Psalm was truly convinced that God would hear and 
answer his prayer due to his own personal experience of God's deliverance many
times over. In this Psalm, David wants to convey the idea of being desperately
trapped in abysmally dark circumstances. Whether the miry pit was of David's 
making or of a conspiracy against him he knew to cry out to the Lord for 
deliverance. God did for David what he could not do for himself. God set 
David's feet on a solid, secure rock and established his steps. 
In Psalm 40:4 David says, "Blessed is he who maketh the Lord his Trust."

David's imagery here is a picture of our salvation in Jesus Christ, who is the
Cornerstone for all who put their faith and trust in Him.  Before salvation, 
we are like David in the pit, bound by sin in a prison of despair and headed 
for death and destruction in hell. But after salvation, we are like David with
his feet set upon a rock. When we call upon the name of the Lord, Jesus saves 
us.  He delivers us from our sin-filled past and transforms us into shining 
new creations in Jesus Christ. He also promises our lives and futures 
are secure in Him.

The result of this deliverance is a fresh response (a new song) arising from a
heart overflowing with gratitude. And lastly, when we spend time contemplating
our immeasurable indebtedness to the Lord, the natural response of 
thankfulness is a fresh commitment to the Lord.
