Isaiah 5

The Song of the Vineyard

1 (Ps 80:8; Mt 21:33) Now I will sing to my well-beloved a song of my beloved
concerning His vineyard:
My well-beloved has a vineyard
in a very fruitful hill.
2 (Jer 2:21; Mk 11:13) And He fenced it, and removed its stones,
and planted it with the choicest vine.
And He built a tower in the midst of it,
and also made a winepress in it;
and He expected it to bring forth good grapes,
but it brought forth wild grapes.
3 Now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah,
judge between My vineyard and Me.
4 (Mt 23:37) What more could have been done to My vineyard
that I have not done in it?
Why, when I expected it to bring forth good grapes,
did it bring forth wild grapes?
5 (Isa 28:18; La 1:15) So now I will tell you
what I will do to My vineyard:
I will take away its hedge,
and it shall be consumed;
I will break down its wall,
and it shall be trodden down.
6 (Isa 7:23-25; 2Ch 36:19-21) And I will lay it waste:
It shall not be pruned or dug,
but briers and thorns shall come up.
I will also command the clouds
that they rain no rain on it.
7 (Ps 80:8-11) For the vineyard of the Lord of Hosts
is the house of Israel,
and the men of Judah
His pleasant plant.
Thus He looked for justice, but saw oppression;
for righteousness, but heard a cry.

[1] Now will I sing to my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his
vineyard. My well beloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill:
[2] And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it
with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made
a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes,
and it brought forth wild grapes.
[3] And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray
you, betwixt me and my vineyard.
[4] What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in
it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it
forth wild grapes?
[5] And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will
take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the
wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:
[6] And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there
shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they
rain no rain upon it.
[7] For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the
men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold
oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

Woes and Judgment

8 (Mic 2:2; Hab 2:9-12) Woe to those who join house to house,
who add field to field,
until there is no more space
where they may live alone in the midst of the land!
9 (Mt 23:38; Isa 22:14) In my ears the Lord of Hosts said:
Truly, many houses shall be desolate,
even great and beautiful, without inhabitants.
10 (Lev 26:26) For ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath,
[About 6 gallons, or 22 liters.]
and the homer [Likely about 360 pounds, or 160 kilograms.]
of seed shall yield an ephah.[Likely about 36 pounds, or 16 kilograms.]
11 (Pr 23:29-30; Isa 5:22) Woe to those who rise up early in the morning
that they may pursue strong drink;
who continue late in the evening
until wine inflames them!
12 (Job 34:27; Ps 28:5) The lyre and the harp, the tambourine and pipe,
and wine are in their feasts;
but they do not regard the deeds of the Lord,
or consider the work of His hands.
13 (Hos 4:6; Isa 1:3; 27:11) Therefore My people go into captivity
because they have no knowledge;
and their honorable men are famished,
and their multitude dried up with thirst.
14 (Hab 2:5) Therefore Sheol has enlarged itself
and opened its mouth without measure;
so their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp,
and he who rejoices shall descend into it.
15 (Isa 2:9; 2:11) The common man shall be brought down,
and the great man shall be humbled,
and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled.
16 (Isa 29:23; 8:13) But the Lord of Hosts shall be exalted in judgment,
and God who is holy shall be hallowed in righteousness.
17 (Isa 7:25; Zep 2:6) Then the lambs shall feed in their pasture,
and strangers shall eat in the waste places of the wealthy.
18 (Jer 23:14; 23:10) Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of falsehood
and sin as if with a cart rope,
19 (Eze 12:22; Jer 17:15) who say, "Let Him make speed
and hasten His work,
that we may see it;
and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel
draw near and come,
that we may know it!"
20 (Pr 17:15; Am 5:7) Woe to those who call evil good,
and good evil;
who exchange darkness for light,
and light for darkness;
who exchange bitter for sweet,
and sweet for bitter!
21 (Pr 3:7; Ro 12:16) Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes
and prudent in their own sight!
22 (Isa 5:11; 28:7) Woe to those who are mighty to drink wine,
and men of strength to mingle strong drink,
23 (Ps 94:21; Isa 10:2) who justify the wicked for a reward,
and take away the justice of the righteous from him!
24 (Job 18:16; Isa 30:12) Therefore, as the fire devours the stubble
and the flame consumes the chaff,
so their root shall be as rottenness,
and their blossom shall go up as dust;
because they have cast away the law of the Lord of Hosts
and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.
25 (2Ki 9:37; Isa 9:17) Therefore the anger of the Lord burns
against His people,
and He has stretched out His hand against them,
and has stricken them,
and the hills trembled.
Their corpses were torn in the midst of the streets.
For all this His anger is not turned away,
and His hand is still stretched out.
26 (Dt 28:49; Isa 7:18) He will lift up a banner to the nations from afar
and will hiss at them from the ends of the earth;
certainly they shall come
with speed, swiftly.
27 (Job 12:18; Joel 2:7-8) No one shall be weary or stumble among them;
no one shall slumber or sleep;
neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed,
nor the strap of their shoes be broken;
28 (Ps 45:5) their arrows are sharp
and all their bows bent;
their horses' hooves will seem like flint,
and their wheels like a whirlwind.
29 (Isa 42:22; 49:24-25) Their roaring shall be like a lion,
they shall roar like young lions;
they shall roar and lay hold of the prey;
and shall carry it away, and no one shall deliver it.
30 (Isa 8:22; Jer 4:23-28) In that day they shall roar against them
like the roaring of the sea.
And if one looks to the land-
only darkness and sorrow,
and the light is darkened by the clouds.

[8] Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till
there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!
[9] In mine ears said the LORD of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be
desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant.
[10] Yea, ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and the seed of an
homer shall yield an ephah.
[11] Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow
strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!
[12] And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in
their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the
operation of his hands.
[13] Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no
knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried
up with thirst.
[14] Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without

[25] Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he
hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the

For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out 
still.
[26] And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss
unto them from the end of the earth: and, behold, they shall come with speed
swiftly:
[27] None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor
sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the
latchet of their shoes be broken:
[28] Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent, their horses' hoofs
shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind:

yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry it away
safe, and none shall deliver it.
[30] And in that day they shall roar against them like the roaring of the
sea: and if one look unto the land, behold darkness and sorrow, and the
light is darkened in the heavens thereof.

2 Kings 14:28-29

28 And whenever the king entered the house of the Lord,
the guards carried them and brought them back into the guard chamber.
29 Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam and all that he did,
are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

[28] Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his
might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath,
which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book
of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
[29] And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel;
and Zachariah his son reigned in his stead.

2 Kings 15:1-5

Azariah, King of Judah

2Ch 26:3-23

1 (2Ki 14:21; 15:13) In the twenty-seventh year of Jeroboam king of Israel,
Azariah son of Amaziah, king of Judah, became king.
2 He was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned 52 years
in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jekoliah from Jerusalem.
3 He did what was right in the sight of the Lord,
according to all that his father Amaziah had done.
4 But the high places were not removed. The people continued sacrificing
and making offerings on the high places.
5 (Lev 13:46; Nu 12:14) The Lord afflicted the king, and he was leprous
until the day of his death. He lived in a separate house. Jotham the king's
son was in charge of the house, judging the people of the land.

2 Kings 15
[1] In the twenty and seventh year of Jeroboam king of Israel began Azariah
son of Amaziah king of Judah to reign.
[2] Sixteen years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned two and
fifty years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jecholiah of Jerusalem.
[3] And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to
all that his father Amaziah had done;
[4] Save that the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and
burnt incense still on the high places.
[5] And the LORD smote the king, so that he was a leper unto the day of his
death, and dwelt in a several house. And Jotham the king's son was over the
house, judging the people of the land.

2 Chronicles 26:1-21

Uzziah, King of Judah
2 Ki 14:21-22; 15:1-7
1 (2Ch 22:1) And all the people of Judah took Uzziah
[Also known as Azariah in 2Ki 15.] and made him king in the place
of his father Amaziah when he was sixteen years old.
2 He built Eloth and restored it to Judah
after Amaziah the king slept with his fathers.
3 (2Ki 15:2-3) Uzziah was sixteen years old when he began to reign,
and he was king in Jerusalem for fifty-two years. The name of his mother
was Jekoliah from Jerusalem.
4 And he did what was correct in the eyes of the Lord as everything
his father Amaziah had done.
5 (2Ch 24:2; Da 1:17) And he sought after God in the days of Zechariah,
the one who instructed him in the fear of the Lord. And in the days
that he sought after the Lord, God caused him to succeed.
6 (Isa 14:29) He went out to make war with the Philistines, and he broke
through the walls at Gath and Jabneh and Ashdod. Then he built cities
in Ashdod and among the Philistines.
7 (2Ch 21:16) And God brought him aid against the Philistines and Arabians,
those living in Gur Baal, and the Meunites.
8 (Ge 19:38; 2Sa 8:2) And the Ammonites gave a gift to Uzziah,
and his name spread even to the border of Egypt because he became
quite powerful.
9 (Ne 3:13; 2Ki 14:13) Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate,
at the Valley Gate, and at the corner buttress; and he fortified them.
10 (Ge 26:18-21) And he built towers in the wilderness, and he dug out
many cisterns because he had a large amount of livestock,
both in the lowland Shephelah and in the plain. He also had workers
in the fields and vineyards in the hills and fertile orchards,
for he loved agriculture.
11 And Uzziah had an army prepared for battle, those who went out
for war as companies in the number of their divisions
by the appointment of Jeiel the scribe, and Maaseiah the officer,
and Hananiah a commander of the king.
12 The total number of chief officers of the mighty men of valor
was two thousand six hundred.
13 And under their hand was a mighty army of 307500 who were able to go
to battle as a strong army and to help the king against his enemies.
14 And Uzziah prepared for the entire army shields, long spears,
helmets, scale armor, bows, and slings for stones.
15 In Jerusalem he made war machines by skilled men to be placed
on towers and corners to shoot arrows and large stones.
And his name went out for a great distance.
He received great help until he was even more powerful.

[1] Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old,
and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.

the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built
cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.
[7] And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians
that dwelt in Gur-baal, and the Mehunims.
[8] And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even
to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly.
[9] Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at
the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them.
[10] Also he built towers in the desert, and digged many wells: for he had
much cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: husbandmen also,
and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved husbandry.
[11] Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war by
bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the
scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the
king's captains.
[12] The whole number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of
valour were two thousand and six hundred.
[13] And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven
thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the
king against the enemy.
[14] And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and
spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings to cast stones.
[15] And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the
towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And
his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped,
till he was strong.

Uzziah's Punishment for Pride

16 (2Ch 25:19; Dt 8:14) And as he grew strong, his heart grew more proud,
leading to his destruction. Then he acted unfaithfully against the Lord
his God, for he entered the temple main hall of the Lord to burn
incense on the altar.
17 (1Ch 6:10) But Azariah the priest entered in after him,
and with him were eighty priests of the Lord-men of valor.
18 (Ex 30:7-8; Nu 18:7) And they stood against King Uzziah and said to him,
"It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord for it is
for the priests, the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense.
Leave from the sanctuary because you have been unfaithful, and there
will be no honor for you from the Lord God."
19 (Nu 12:10) Then Uzziah was enraged, and in his hand was a censer
for incense. And when he became angry with the priests, leprosy appeared
on his forehead in front of the priests in the house of the Lord,
near the altar of incense.
20 Then Azariah the head priest and all the priests turned to him,
and he had leprosy on his forehead; and they hastened to remove
him from there, and he also hurried to leave because the Lord had struck him.
21 (Lev 13:46) So King Uzziah had leprosy until the day of his death.
He dwelt in a separate house with his unclean disease
because he was cut off from the house of the Lord.
Then Jotham his son was over the house of the king,
and he governed the people of the land.

[16] But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction:
for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the
LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.
[17] And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore
priests of the LORD, that were valiant men:
[18] And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth
not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests
the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the
sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour
from the LORD God.
[19] Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense:
and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his
forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the
incense altar.
[20] And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him,
and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from
thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had smitten
him.
[21] And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in
a several house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the
LORD: and Jotham his son was over the king's house, judging the people of
the land. 

2 Kings 15:6-7

6 Now the rest of the deeds of Azariah, and all that he did, are they not 
written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 
7 So Azariah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers
in the City of David. Jotham his son reigned in his place.

[6] And the rest of the acts of Azariah, and all that he did, are they not
written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
[7] So Azariah slept with his fathers; and they buried him with his fathers
in the city of David: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead. 

Zechariah, King of Israel

2 Kings 15:8-29

8 In the thirty-eighth year of Azariah king of Judah, Zechariah 
the son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in Samaria for six months. 

[8] In the thirty and eighth year of Azariah king of Judah did Zachariah
the son of Jeroboam reign over Israel in Samaria six months.

9 He did evil in the sight of the Lord, as his fathers had done. 
He did not turn aside from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat,
 who caused Israel to sin.
10 Shallum the son of Jabesh conspired against him, struck him at Ibleam, 
and killed him. Then Shallum reigned in his place.
11 Now the rest of the deeds of Zechariah, behold, they are written in 
the book of the annals of the kings of Israel. 
12 This was the word of the Lord which He spoke to Jehu, 
"Your sons will sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation."
And it was so.

[9] And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as his fathers
had done: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who
made Israel to sin.
[10] And Shallum the son of Jabesh conspired against him, and smote him
before the people, and slew him, and reigned in his stead.
[11] And the rest of the acts of Zachariah, behold, they are written in the
book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.
[12] This was the word of the LORD which he spake unto Jehu, saying, Thy
sons shall sit on the throne of Israel unto the fourth generation. And
so it came to pass.

Shallum, King of Israel

13 Shallum son of Jabesh became king in the thirty-ninth year 
of Uzziah king of Judah. He reigned for a month in Samaria. 
14 Then Menahem son of Gadi went up from Tirzah, entered Samaria, 
and struck Shallum son of Jabesh in Samaria and killed him. 
Then Menahem reigned in his place.
15 Now the rest of the deeds of Shallum and the conspiracy he made, 
behold, they are written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel.
16 Then Menahem struck Tiphsah and all who were in it, and the territories 
around Tirzah. Because they did not open up the city to him, he attacked it.
Then he split open all its pregnant women.

[13] Shallum the son of Jabesh began to reign in the nine and thirtieth
year of Uzziah king of Judah; and he reigned a full month in Samaria.
[14] For Menahem the son of Gadi went up from Tirzah, and came to Samaria,
and smote Shallum the son of Jabesh in Samaria, and slew him, and
reigned in his stead.
[15] And the rest of the acts of Shallum, and his conspiracy which he made,
behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of
Israel.
[16] Then Menahem smote Tiphsah, and all that were therein, and the coasts
thereof from Tirzah: because they opened not to him, therefore he smote it;
and all the women therein that were with child he ripped up.

Menahem, King of Israel
17 In the thirty-ninth year of Azariah king of Judah, Menahem son of Gadi 
became king over Israel for ten years in Samaria. 
18 He did evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not turn aside all his days 
from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin.
19 Pul the king of Assyria came against the land, and Menahem gave Pul 
a thousand talents of silver, that he might help him strengthen 
his control of the kingdom. 
20 Menahem exacted the money from Israel, from all the very wealthy men, 
fifty shekels of silver each, to give to the king of Assyria. 
So the king of Assyria left and did not stay there in the land.
21 The rest of the deeds of Menahem, and all that he did, are they not written 
in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel? 
22 And Menahem slept with his fathers, and Pekahiah
his son reigned in his place.


[17] In the nine and thirtieth year of Azariah king of Judah began Menahem
the son of Gadi to reign over Israel, and reigned ten years in Samaria.
[18] And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed
not all his days from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made
Israel to sin.
[19] And Pul the king of Assyria came against the land: and Menahem gave
Pul a thousand talents of silver, that his hand might be with him to confirm
the kingdom in his hand.
[20] And Menahem exacted the money of Israel, even of all the mighty men of
wealth, of each man fifty shekels of silver, to give to the king of
Assyria.
So the king of Assyria turned back, and stayed not there in the land.
[21] And the rest of the acts of Menahem, and all that he did, are they not
written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
[22] And Menahem slept with his fathers; and Pekahiah his son reigned in his
stead.

Pekahiah, King of Israel

23 In the fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah, Pekahiah the son of Menahem 
became king over Israel in Samaria for two years. 
24 He did evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not turn aside from the sins 
of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin. 

[23] In the fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah Pekahiah the son of
Menahem began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned two years.
[24] And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed
not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.

25 But Pekah son of Remaliah, his officer, conspired against him 
and struck him in Samaria, in the palace of the king's house, with Argob, 
Arieh, and fifty men of the Gileadites with him. He killed him a
nd reigned in his place.
26 Now the rest of the deeds of Pekahiah and all that he did, behold, 
they are written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel.

[25] But Pekah the son of Remaliah, a captain of his, conspired against him,

reigned in his room.
[26] And the rest of the acts of Pekahiah, and all that he did, behold, they
are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

Pekah, King of Israel
27 In the fifty-second year of Azariah king of Judah, Pekah son of Remaliah 
became king over Israel in Samaria for twenty years. 
28 He did evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not turn aside from the

The Blinded Arameans Captured

9 But the man of God sent word to the king of Israel, saying,
"Take care not to pass through this place, for the Arameans are marching
down there."
10 The king of Israel sent word to the place of which the man of God spoke.
He warned him and was on his guard there more than once.
11 The mind of the king of Aram was troubled by this, so he called
his servants and said to them, "Will you not tell me who among us sides
with the king of Israel?"
12 Then one of his servants said, "No one, my lord, O king. Elisha,
the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that
you speak in your bedroom."
13 (Ge 37:17) He said, "Go and see where he is, so that I may send for him
and take him." And it was told to him, "He is in Dothan."
14 So he sent horses, chariots, and a great army there. They came by night
and surrounded the city.
15 When a servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out,
a force surrounded the city both with horses and chariots.
And his servant said to him, "Alas, my master! What will we do?"

us than with them."

may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and,
behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about
Elisha. 

The angels were there all along, but no one alive had seen them. They adorned 
the walls of the Old North Church in Boston, looking down from on high, but 
they'd been covered with layers of paint more than a century ago. Church 
records indicated a contract with a member of the congregation to paint them 
in 1730 when the church was undergoing construction. A recent restoration 
project that commenced in 2017 led to the discovery of the angels.

Scripture speaks of supernatural beings - real, not painted - that were 
present when others were not aware. On one occasion, the prophet Elisha was 
surrounded by the army of the king of Aram. When his servant saw the hostile 
forces, he cried out, "Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?" (2 Kings 6:15). 
"'Don't be afraid,' the prophet answered. 'Those who are with us are more 
than those who are with them' " (v. 16). Elisha prayed for his servant's eyes 
to be opened, and "he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of 
fire all around Elisha" (v. 17).

Angels are "ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit 
salvation" (Hebrews 1:14), messengers of God sent to help us. We may or may 
not see them, but they're there because God has more ways of watching over us 
than we can imagine. And that should cause us to praise Him, 
like the angels do.

Week 3 - Saved Now and forever Day 6 - Eternal Life, Beginning now

John 10:28 - I give them eternal life. They shall never perish,
nor shall anyone snatch them from My hand.

28 and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish,
neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

In C.S. Lewis's The Great Divorce, one of the Spirits in heaven, identifying
himself as George MacDonald, makes some startling statements on the nature of
eternal life. Depending upon the individual's choice for or against Christ,
MacDonald says, everything in life takes on the character of haven or hell.
"At the end of ALL THINGS, when the sun rises here (in heaven) and the twilight
turns to blackness down there, the Blessed will say, 'We have never lived
anywhere except in Heaven,' and the Lost, 'We were always in Hell.'
And both will speak truly" - From the Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis.
Lewis was not trying to make a theological case, but to demonstrate
a principle: eternal life begins now.
The choices that we make for or against obedience to God, the life we live,
the patterns we establish, all move us in one direction of the other.
And when we have decided to choose obedience to God (the forsakeness of sin),
when we give ourselves fully into his hands, he is able to take the worst of
circumstances and redeem them for our good, use them to mature us in his image.
Again Jesus says in John 10:28
"I give them eternal life. They shall never perish,
nor shall anyone snatch them from My hand. "
In Christ is a very secure place to be. No experience is lost, no pain is
wasted. Everything in our lives is redeemed by God for our benefit.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid  celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that 
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you 
know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 :  17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; 
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, 
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants 
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. 
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below: 
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.  20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]
