There exists the "Smokey the Bear" philosophy on pandemics which says:
"They're like forest fires; you can't prevent 'em, so let 'em burn
themselves out; the resulting forest will be healthier."  Like
viruses, humans will naturally evolve immunity.

Unfortunately, they are usually accompanied with economic collapse...
and *that* usually leads to wars.
