Zechariah 8

The Holy City of Peace and Prosperity

1 And the word of the Lord came, saying:
2 Thus says the Lord of Hosts: I am exceedingly jealous for Zion,
and with great wrath I am jealous for her.
3 (Zec 1:16; Isa 1:26) Thus says the Lord: I have returned to Zion
and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem, and Jerusalem will be called
a city of faithfulness and the mountain of the Lord of Hosts,
the holy mountain.
4 Thus says the Lord of Hosts: Older men and women will again sit
in the streets of Jerusalem, each having a staff in his hand
because of advanced age.
5 (Jer 30:19-20) And the plazas of the city will be filled
with young boys and girls playing in her open places.
6 (Jer 32:17; 32:27) Thus says the Lord of Hosts: If it is marvelous
in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days,
will it also be marvelous in My eyes? says the Lord of Hosts.
7 (Isa 27:12-13; 49:12) Thus says the Lord of Hosts: I will deliver
My people from the eastern lands and from the western lands.
8 (Jer 4:2; Eze 11:20) And I will bring them, and they will reside
in Jerusalem, and they will be for Me as a people, and I will be
for them as God, with faithfulness and righteousness.
9 (1Ch 22:13; Ezr 5:1-2) Thus says the Lord of Hosts:
Let your hands be strengthened, whoever is hearing these words
in these days, from the mouth of the prophets who were there
in the day that the house of the Lord of Hosts was founded,
that the temple might be built.
10 (Isa 19:2; Am 3:6) For before those days there were no wages
for a man nor any hire for an animal; and there was no peace
from an enemy for him who went out or came in;
for I set every man against his neighbor.
11 (Isa 12:1; Ps 103:9) But now I will not be as in the former days
against this remnant people, says the Lord of Hosts.
12 (Ge 27:28; Lev 26:4-5) For sowing will be done in peace,
and the vine will produce its fruit, and the ground will provide its produce,
and the heavens will give their rain. And I will cause the remnant
of this people to inherit all of these benefits.
13 (Zec 8:9; Ge 12:2-3) And as you have been like a curse among the nations,
O house of Israel and house of Judah, I will deliver you,
and you will be a blessing. Fear not, and strengthen your hands!
14 (Jer 31:28; Eze 24:14) Thus says the Lord of Hosts:
Just as I had determined to punish you when your fathers incited Me to wrath,
says the Lord of Hosts, I did not relent.
15 (Zec 8:13; Mic 7:18-20) So again have I purposed in these days to do good
to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. Do not fear!
16 (Zec 7:9; Ps 15:2; Eph 4:25) These are the things you will do:
Speak truth each to his neighbor, and make judgments in your gates
that are for truth, and justice, and peace.
17 (Pr 3:29; 6:16-19) Let none of you consider evil plans in your heart
against your neighbor, and do not love false oaths,
for I hate all these things, says the Lord.
18 And the word of the Lord of Hosts came to me, saying:
19 (Jer 39:2; Zec 7:5) Thus says the Lord of Hosts: The fast during
the fourth and fifth months, and the fasts during the seventh
and tenth months, will become rejoicing and joy and pleasant
feasts for the house of Judah. So love what brings truth and peace.
20 (Jer 16:19; Zec 2:11) Thus says the Lord of Hosts: Peoples will
still come, even those who live in many cities.
21 (Zec 7:2) Those who live in one city will journey to another,
saying, "Let us surely go to seek the Lord of Hosts. I myself am going."
22 (Isa 25:7; Zec 8:21) Many peoples and strong nations will seek
out the Lord of Hosts in Jerusalem and to entreat the favor of the Lord.
23 (1Co 14:25; Ge 31:7) Thus says the Lord of Hosts: In those days ten men
from every language of the nations will take hold of the garment of a Jew,
saying, "Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you."

Zechariah 8:1
1 Again the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying,
Zechariah 8:2
2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy,
and I was jealous for her with great fury.
Zechariah 8:3
3 Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst
of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the
mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain.
Zechariah 8:4
4 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell
in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for
very age.
Zechariah 8:5
5 And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the
streets thereof.
Zechariah 8:6
6 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the
remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine
eyes? saith the LORD of hosts.
Zechariah 8:7
7 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east
country, and from the west country;
Zechariah 8:8
8 And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and
they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in
righteousness.
Zechariah 8:9
9 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Let your hands be strong, ye that hear in
these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, which were in the day
that the foundation of the house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the
temple might be built.
Zechariah 8:10
10 For before these days there was no hire for man, nor any hire for beast;
neither was there any peace to him that went out or came in because of the
affliction: for I set all men every one against his neighbour.
Zechariah 8:11
11 But now I will not be unto the residue of this people as in the former
days, saith the LORD of hosts.
Zechariah 8:12
12 For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the
ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I
will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things.
Zechariah 8:13
13 And it shall come to pass, that as ye were a curse among the heathen, O
house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I save you, and ye shall be a
blessing: fear not, but let your hands be strong.
Zechariah 8:14
14 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; As I thought to punish you, when your
fathers provoked me to wrath, saith the LORD of hosts, and I repented not:
Zechariah 8:15
15 So again have I thought in these days to do well unto Jerusalem and to
the house of Judah: fear ye not.
Zechariah 8:16
16 These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to
his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates:
Zechariah 8:17
17 And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour;
and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD.
Zechariah 8:18
18 And the word of the LORD of hosts came unto me, saying,
Zechariah 8:19
19 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast
of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall
be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts;
therefore love the truth and peace.
Zechariah 8:20
20 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; It shall yet come to pass, that there shall
come people, and the inhabitants of many cities:
Zechariah 8:21
21 And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go
speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go
also.
Zechariah 8:22
22 Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts
in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD.
Zechariah 8:23
23 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that
ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take
hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you:
for we have heard that God is with you. 

Zechariah 9

Judgment on Israel's Enemies
1 (Jer 49:23-27; Am 1:3-5) An oracle of the word of the Lord that is
against the land of Hadrak,
and Damascus is the place where it will rest.
For the eyes of men and the tribes of Israel
are on the Lord.
2 (Jer 49:23; Eze 28:12) Also Hamath borders it,
even Tyre and Sidon, cities that are very wise.
3 (Jos 19:29; Job 27:16) Tyre has built a rampart for herself
and stored up silver like it were dust,
and even gold like it were mud in the streets.
4 (Eze 28:18; 26:17) The Lord will dispossess her of her possessions
and strike down her power in the sea,
and she will be devoured with fire.
5 Ashkelon will observe this and fear;
Gaza as well and will writhe in anguish;
even Ekron, her hope will be confounded.
The king of Gaza will perish,
and no one will inhabit Ashkelon.
6 (Am 1:8) A mongrel people will dwell in Ashdod,
and I will cut down the pride of Philistia.
7 I will take away the bloodshed from its mouth,
and the abominations from between its teeth.
Even it will be a remnant for our God.
It will be like a tribe of a clan in Judah,
and Ekron like the Jebusites.
8 (Isa 52:1; 54:14) Then I will make camp at My house with a garrison,
so that no one can pass back and forth.
And no oppressor will pass through them,
for now I see with My eyes.


CHAPTER 9
Zechariah 9:1
1 The burden of the word of the LORD in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus
shall be the rest thereof: when the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of
Israel, shall be toward the LORD.
Zechariah 9:2
2 And Hamath also shall border thereby; Tyrus, and Zidon, though it be very
wise.
Zechariah 9:3
3 And Tyrus did build herself a strong hold, and heaped up silver as the
dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets.
Zechariah 9:4
4 Behold, the Lord will cast her out, and he will smite her power in the
sea; and she shall be devoured with fire.
Zechariah 9:5
5 Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; Gaza also shall see it, and be very
sorrowful, and Ekron; for her expectation shall be ashamed; and the king
shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.
Zechariah 9:6
6 And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the
Philistines.
Zechariah 9:7
7 And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from
between his teeth: but he that remaineth, even he, shall be for our God, and
he shall be as a governor in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.
Zechariah 9:8
8 And I will encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him
that passeth by, and because of him that returneth: and no oppressor shall
pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes.

The Coming King of Zion

9 (Isa 9:6-7; Jer 23:5-6) Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
And cry aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
See, your king is coming to you;
he is righteous and able to deliver,
he is humble and riding on a donkey,
a colt, the offspring of a donkey.
10 (Hos 1:7; 2:18) I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim
and the horse from Jerusalem;
and the bow for battle will be cut off.
He will speak peace to the nations;
and his dominion will be from one sea to another,
and from the Great River to the ends of the earth.
11 (Ex 24:8; Isa 42:7) And as for you, because of the blood of your covenant,
I will send your prisoners from the empty, waterless pits.
12 (Isa 61:7; Jer 31:17) Return to your stronghold,
prisoners who now have hope.
Today I declare that I will return to you a double portion.
13 (Ps 45:3; Isa 49:2) Because I have bent Judah as My bow
and fitted the bow with Ephraim.
I will stir up your sons, O Zion,
against your sons, O Greece,
and will set you like the sword of a warrior.
14 (Isa 21:1; Ps 18:14) Then the Lord will appear over them,
and His arrow will go out like lightning.
The Lord God will sound His trumpet,
and will march forth like storm winds of southern Teman.
15 (Ex 27:2; Zec 10:5) The Lord of Hosts will protect them.
They will devour up
and subdue them with stone slingers.
And they will drink and make noise as with wine;
they will be filled with blood as a bowl,
saturated like the corners of the altar.
16 (Isa 62:3; Ps 100:3) The Lord their God will deliver them that day
like the flock of His people.
For like jewels embedded in a crown,
they will shine in His land.
17 (Isa 33:17; 62:8-9) For how great is His goodness,
and how great His beauty!
There will be grain for the young men
and new wine to prosper the young women.

Zechariah 9:9
9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem:
behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly,
and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
Zechariah 9:10
10 And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from
Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace
unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from
the river even to the ends of the earth.
Zechariah 9:11
11 As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy
prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water.
Zechariah 9:12
12 Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I
declare that I will render double unto thee;
Zechariah 9:13
13 When I have bent Judah for me, filled the bow with Ephraim, and raised up
thy sons, O Zion, against thy sons, O Greece, and made thee as the sword of
a mighty man.
Zechariah 9:14
14 And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the
lightning: and the Lord GOD shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with
whirlwinds of the south.
Zechariah 9:15
15 The LORD of hosts shall defend them; and they shall devour, and subdue
with sling stones; and they shall drink, and make a noise as through wine;
and they shall be filled like bowls, and as the corners of the altar.
Zechariah 9:16
16 And the LORD their God shall save them in that day as the flock of his
people: for they shall be as the stones of a crown, lifted up as an ensign
upon his land.
Zechariah 9:17
17 For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! corn shall
make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids.

Zechariah 10

The Restoration of Judah and Israel

1 (Isa 30:23; Jer 10:13) Ask for rain from the Lord
during the season of the latter spring rains.
And the Lord will make the storm winds;
and He will give them showers of rain;
all will have vegetation in the field.
2 (Eze 34:5; Hos 3:4) For the household Teraphim idols speak wickedness,
and the diviners envision lies.
They utter false dreams,
and provide comfort that does not last.
So the people wander about like sheep;
they are afflicted because there is no shepherd.
3 (Zep 2:7) My anger burns against the shepherds,
and I will visit judgment on the male goats.
For the Lord of Hosts will visit His flock, the house of Judah,
and will make them like His majestic horse in battle.
4 (Zec 9:10; Nu 24:17) From him comes the cornerstone,
and from him the tent peg.
From him comes the bow for battle,
and from him every ruler goes out, all these together.
5 (Hag 2:22; Ps 20:7) And they will be as mighty men,
who trample down in the muddy streets in battle.
They will fight because the Lord is with them,
and He will put to shame those riding on horses.
6 (Zec 13:9; 10:12) I will make strong the house of Judah,
and will deliver the house of Joseph.
I will restore them
because I have compassion on them.
They will be like
I had never rejected them;
for I am the Lord their God,
and I will respond to them.
7 (Zec 9:15) Then Ephraim shall be like a mighty man,
and their hearts shall rejoice as with wine.
Their children shall see this and be glad;
their hearts shall rejoice in the Lord.
8 (Isa 5:26; Jer 33:22) I will whistle to them
and gather them in,
for I have ransomed them;
they will be numerous as they were numerous before.
9 (Eze 6:9; 1Ki 8:47-48) When I scatter them among the nations,
they will remember Me in the distant lands;
they will live with their children
and then return.
10 (Hos 11:11; Mic 7:14) I will bring them home from the land of Egypt,
and gather them from Assyria.
I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon,
until there is no room for them.
11 (Eze 30:13) He will pass through the sea of distress,
and will put down the waves in the sea:
All the depths of the Nile will be dried up;
and the arrogance of Assyria will be brought down,
and the scepter of Egypt will turn away.
12 (Mic 4:5; Zec 10:6) I will make them strong in the Lord,
and they will go to and fro in His name,
says the Lord.

Zechariah 10:1
1 Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall
make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in
the field.
Zechariah 10:2
2 For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and
have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way
as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd.
Zechariah 10:3
3 Mine anger was kindled against the shepherds, and I punished the goats:
for the LORD of hosts hath visited his flock the house of Judah, and hath
made them as his goodly horse in the battle.
Zechariah 10:4
4 Out of him came forth the corner, out of him the nail, out of him the
battle bow, out of him every oppressor together.
Zechariah 10:5
5 And they shall be as mighty men, which tread down their enemies in the
mire of the streets in the battle: and they shall fight, because the LORD is
with them, and the riders on horses shall be confounded.
Zechariah 10:6
6 And I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of
Joseph, and I will bring them again to place them; for I have mercy upon
them: and they shall be as though I had not cast them off: for I am the LORD
their God, and will hear them.
Zechariah 10:7
7 And they of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man, and their heart shall
rejoice as through wine: yea, their children shall see it, and be glad;
their heart shall rejoice in the LORD.
Zechariah 10:8
8 I will hiss for them, and gather them; for I have redeemed them: and they
shall increase as they have increased.
Zechariah 10:9
9 And I will sow them among the people: and they shall remember me in far
countries; and they shall live with their children, and turn again.
Zechariah 10:10
10 I will bring them again also out of the land of Egypt, and gather them
out of Assyria; and I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon;
and place shall not be found for them.
Zechariah 10:11
11 And he shall pass through the sea with affliction, and shall smite the
waves in the sea, and all the deeps of the river shall dry up: and the pride
of Assyria shall be brought down, and the sceptre of Egypt shall depart away.
Zechariah 10:12
12 And I will strengthen them in the LORD; and they shall walk up and down
in his name, saith the LORD.

Zechariah 11

1 (Jer 22:6-7) Open your doors, O Lebanon,
so the fire can consume your cedar.
2 Wail, O cypress, for the cedar has fallen;
the majestic trees are destroyed.
Wail, O oaks of Bashan,
because the unassailable forest has been brought down.
3 (Jer 50:44; 25:34-36) There is the sound of wailing shepherds,
because their glory is ruined.
There is the sound of roaring lions,
because the pride of Jordan is ruined.

[1] Open thy doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour thy cedars.
[2] Howl, fir tree; for the cedar is fallen; because the mighty are spoiled:
howl, O ye oaks of Bashan; for the forest of the vintage is come down.
[3] There is a voice of the howling of the shepherds; for their glory is
spoiled: a voice of the roaring of young lions; for the pride of Jordan is
spoiled.

Two Kinds of Shepherds

4 (Zec 11:7) Thus says the Lord my God: Shepherd the flock of slaughter.
5 (Jer 50:7; Hos 12:8) The ones who buy them then slaughter them
and have no guilt, and those who sell them say,
"Blessed is the Lord because I am rich." Their own shepherds do not take pity
on them.
6 (Jer 13:14; Isa 9:19-21) For I will no longer have pity on those who dwell
in the land, says the Lord. But I will cause each of them to fall
into the hands of his neighbor, even into the hands of his king.
They will crush the land, and I will not deliver any from their hands.
7 (Zec 11:4; 11:14) So I shepherded the flock that was for slaughter,
even the afflicted of the flock. And I took for myself two staffs.
One I called Favor and the other I gave the name Union.
So I pastured the flock.
8 (Isa 49:7; Hos 5:7) I destroyed the three shepherds in the span
of one month.
For my soul was impatient with them, and their souls detested me.
9 (Jer 43:11) Then I said, "I will not shepherd you. What is to die,
let it die. What is to be destroyed, let it be destroyed. Let those
who are left devour each other's flesh."
10 (Zec 11:7; Ps 89:39) I took the staff named Favor and cut it into pieces,
to break the covenant that I made with all the peoples.
11 (Zep 3:12) So it was broken that day, and the afflicted of the flock
were watching me and knew that this was the word of the Lord.
12 (Mt 26:15; Ex 21:32; Ge 37:28) Then I said to them,
"If this is good in your eyes, then give my wages to me, but if not,
then keep it." They weighed my wages at thirty pieces of silver.
13 (Ac 1:18-19; Mt 27:3-10) Then the Lord said to me, "Throw it to the potter,
the splendid price by which I was valued by them."
So I took the thirty silver pieces and threw them
to the house of the Lord to the potter.
14 (Isa 9:21) Then I cut up the second staff, Union, to break the brotherhood
between Judah and Israel.
15 (Isa 6:10-12)Then the Lord said to me: Take for yourself again the vessels
carried by a foolish shepherd.
16 (Jer 23:2; Eze 34:2-6) I am raising up a shepherd in the land who will
not care for those who are perishing, nor seek the young, nor heal the broken,
nor feed those who are standing still. But he will eat the flesh of the fat
and tear their hoofs in pieces.
17 (Jer 23:1; 50:35-37) Woe to this worthless shepherd
who abandons his flock.
May the sword take his arm and right eye;
may his arm surely wither up,
and his right eye become blind.

[4] Thus saith the LORD my God; Feed the flock of the slaughter;
[5] Whose possessors slay them, and hold themselves not guilty: and they
that sell them say, Blessed be the LORD; for I am rich: and their own
shepherds pity them not.
[6] For I will no more pity the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD:
but, lo, I will deliver the men every one into his neighbour's hand, and
into the hand of his king: and they shall smite the land, and out of their
hand I will not deliver them.
[7] And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock.
And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I
called Bands; and I fed the flock.
[8] Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul lothed them,
and their soul also abhorred me.
[9] Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dieth, let it die; and that
that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the
flesh of another.
[10] And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might
break my covenant which I had made with all the people.
[11] And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited
upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD.
[12] And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not,
forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.
[13] And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that
I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast
them to the potter in the house of the LORD.
[14] Then I cut asunder mine other staff, even Bands, that I might break the
brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
[15] And the LORD said unto me, Take unto thee yet the instruments of a
foolish shepherd.
[16] For, lo, I will raise up a shepherd in the land, which shall not visit
those that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor heal that that
is broken, nor feed that that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of
the fat, and tear their claws in pieces.
[17] Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be
upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and
his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

Zechariah 12

The Deliverance of Judah

1 (Isa 42:5; 57:16) The oracle of the word of the Lord against Israel.
Thus says the Lord, the One who stretches out the heavens and establishes
the earth and forms the spirit of man within him:
2 (Zec 14:14; Ps 75:8) I am going to make Jerusalem a cup of reeling
before all the surrounding nations. And when there is a siege against Judah,
it is also against Jerusalem.
3 (Mt 21:44; Da 2:34-35) And it will be on that day that I will set Jerusalem
as a weighty stone to all the peoples. All who carry it will surely gash
themselves, and all the nations of the land will be gathered against it.
4 (Dt 28:28; Zec 12:3) On that day I will strike every horse with confusion
and its rider with madness, but for the house of Judah I will keep My eyes
open although I will strike with blindness every horse of the peoples.
5 Then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts, "There is strength for us
with those residing in Jerusalem by the Lord of Hosts, their God."
6 (Ob 1:18; Zec 2:4) On that day I will set Judah like a fiery pot among wood
and as a flaming torch among cut grain. And they will devour to the right
and left all the surrounding peoples, while Jerusalem will still reside
in her place, the place of Jerusalem.
7 The Lord will deliver the tents of Judah as before, so that the glory
of the house of David and the glory of those dwelling in Jerusalem will
not eclipse Judah.
8 (Mic 7:8) On that day the Lord will defend those residing in Jerusalem;
and even the one who stumbles among them will be as David on that day.
And the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the Lord going
out before them.
9 On that day I will seek to destroy all the nations
who come out against Jerusalem.

[1] The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which
stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and
formeth the spirit of man within him.
[2] Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people
round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against
Jerusalem.
[3] And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people:
all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the
people of the earth be gathered together against it.
[4] In that day, saith the LORD, I will smite every horse with astonishment,
and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of
Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness.
[5] And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of

house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify

that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of
David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them.
[9] And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all
the nations that come against Jerusalem.

Mourning for Him Whom They Have Pierced

10 (Rev 1:7; Jer 6:26) And I will pour out on the house of David
and over those dwelling in Jerusalem a spirit of favor and supplication
so that they look to Me, whom they have pierced through. And they will mourn
over him as one mourns for an only child and weep bitterly over him
as a firstborn.
11 (2Ki 23:29; 2Ch 35:24) On that day the mourning in Jerusalem will be
as great as that of Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.
12 (2Sa 5:14; Zec 7:3) The land will mourn with each family by itself:
the family of the house of David by themselves, and their wives by themselves;
the family of the house of Nathan by themselves,
and their wives by themselves;
13 the family of the house of Levi by themselves,

Zechariah 13

The Cleansing of God's People

1 (Ps 51:2; Eze 36:25) On that day there will be a spring opened up
for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin
and impurity.
2 (1Ki 22:22; Jer 23:14-15) And on that day, says the Lord of Hosts, I will
cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they will not be remembered
any more. And I will also remove from the land the prophets
and the unclean spirit.
3 (Dt 13:6-11; 18:20) And it will be if a man again prophesies,
then his father and mother who gave birth to him will say,
"You will not live because you speak deception in the name of the Lord."
Then when he prophesies, his father and mother will pierce him through.
4 (2Ki 1:8; Isa 20:2) On that day each prophet will be ashamed of his vision
when he prophesies. He will not put on a robe of coarse hair in order
to deceive.
5 (Am 7:14) But he will say, "I am not a prophet. I am a man who works

Striking the Shepherd, Scattering the Sheep

7 (Isa 40:11; Zec 11:7) "Awake, O sword, against My shepherd
and the man of My association,"
says the Lord of Hosts.
Strike the shepherd,
and the sheep will scatter.
I will turn My hand against the small ones.
8 (Eze 5:2-4; 5:12) And it will happen in all the land, says the Lord,

Zechariah 14

The Day of the Lord

1 (Isa 13:9; 13:6) A day of the Lord is coming when your spoil
will be divided in your midst.
2 (Isa 13:16; Joel 3:2) For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem
for battle. The city will be captured and the houses plundered and the women
ravished. Half of the city will go to exile, but the remainder of the people
will not be cut off from the city.
3 (Zec 12:9) Then the Lord will go out and fight those nations
as He fights in the day of war.
4 (Eze 11:23; Isa 64:1-2) On that day His feet will stand on the Mount
of Olives, which is to the east of Jerusalem. And from east to west
the Mount of Olives will be split in two halves by a very great valley
so that one half moves to the north and the other to the south.
5 (Am 1:1; Isa 29:6) And you will flee to my mountain valley,
for the mountain valley will reach to Azal. You will flee just like you
fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah.
Then the Lord my God will come and all His holy ones with you.
6 And on that day there will be no light. The lights will diminish.
7 (Isa 30:26; Rev 22:5) And there will be one day known to the Lord,
neither during the day nor the night, but at the evening time there
will be light.
8 (Eze 47:1-12; Joel 2:20) On that day living water will flow out
from Jerusalem, half to the Dead Sea and the other half to the
Mediterranean Sea. This will happen for the summer as well as the winter.
9 (Eph 4:5-6; Isa 2:2-4) And the Lord will be king over all the earth.
In that day it will be "The Lord is one," and His name is one.
10 (Zec 12:6; Jos 15:32) All the land will be turned into a plain from Geba
to Rimmon to the south of Jerusalem. But Jerusalem will rise and dwell
in her place from the Benjamin Gate to the place of the Old Gate,
to the Corner Gate, and then from the Tower of Hananel
to the winepress of the king.
11 (Rev 22:3; Jer 23:5-6) And people will live there,
and she will never again be devoted for destruction.
Jerusalem will reside in security.
12 And this will be the pestilence with which the Lord will strike
all the peoples who go to battle against Jerusalem: Their flesh will
rot as they stand on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets,
and their tongues will rot in their mouths.
13 Then on that day a great tumult from the Lord will come on them
as each person will seize the hand of his neighbor,
and the hand of one will be raised against the hand of another.
14 (Isa 23:18; Zec 12:2) And even Judah will fight with Jerusalem,
and the wealth of all the surrounding nations will be gathered,
a great abundance of gold, silver, and garments.
15 (Zec 14:12) So this plague will come to horses, mules, camels, donkeys,
and any other animals that are in the camp. So will this plague be.
16 (Isa 60:6-9; 66:18-21) Then it will be that all the nations
who have come against Jerusalem and survived will go up each year
to worship the King, the Lord of Hosts,
and to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.
17 (Jer 14:4; 1Ki 17:1) And it will happen that if any of the families
of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of Hosts,
then there will not be rain for them.
18 If the family of Egypt does not go up and enter in,
they shall have no rain. This will be the plague with which the Lord strikes
the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.
19 This will be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations
who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.
20 (Isa 23:18; Zec 9:15) On that day "HOLY TO THE Lord" will be engraved
on the bells of the horses. And the pots in the house of the Lord will be
as the basins before the altar.
21 (Ne 8:10; Eze 44:9) And every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy
to the Lord of Hosts so that all who come to sacrifice will take from
those pots and boil the meat in them. And on that day there will no longer be
a Canaanite in the house of the Lord of Hosts.

hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.

The Servant of the Lord

When I give our beautiful, fluffy Norwegian Forest cat, Mystique, belly rubs 
and play with her, or when she falls asleep on my lap in the evening, it's 
sometimes hard to believe that she's the same cat we met years ago. Mystique 
used to live on the streets, underweight and fearful of everyone. But that 
gradually changed as I started putting out food for her each day. 
One day she finally let me pet her, and the rest is history.

Mystique's transformation is a reminder of the healing that can come with 
patience and love. It reminds me of God's heart as described in Isaiah 42. 
There, we're told of a coming servant filled with His Spirit (v. 1), who 
would tirelessly and "in faithfulness" work to establish God's 
"justice on earth" (vv. 3-4).

But that servant-Jesus (Matthew 12:18-20)-wouldn't bring God's justice through
violence or pursuit of power. Instead, He'd be quiet and gentle (Isaiah 42:2),
tenderly and patiently caring for those discarded by others-those "bruised" 
and wounded (v. 3).

God never gives up on His children. He has all the time in the world to care 
for our wounded hearts, until they finally begin to heal. Through His gentle, 
patient love we gradually learn to love and trust once more.

Week 5 Rejoice in Grace - Day 4 Under the Mercy

Ps 13:5-6

5 I for my part confide in Your kindness;may my heart exult in Your salvation!
6 I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me.

5 But I have trusted in thy mercy; My heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.
6 I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

In Sheldon Vanauken's book "A Severe Mercy", Vanauken faced the "severe mercy"
of the untimely death of his wife. His friend C. S. Lewis , who had endured a
similar grief , comforted him through letters,
encouraging him with the exhotation, "Go under the Mercy".
While God's grace deals with sin and forgiveness,
God's mercy deals with the pain pf human existence. We all experience pain
- sometimes as a natural result of wrongs we have done, sometimes unfairly
as a consequence of living in a fallen world.
But for all who hurt, God provides
mercy - respite from pain, and the assurance of a Lord who cares.
David , in Psalm 13 says " I trust in your mercy, your unfailing love."
God's love never fail us, no matter how much we may have failed him.
David knew the consequences of sin; he knew what it meant to fail God,
to rebel against God's faithfulness. Yet David trusted in God's Goodness
rather than depending upon his own; he focused his attention upon the
mercy of the Lord.
We need, like David, to "Go under the mercy", even when it is a
"severe mercy."
Even when circumstances seem bad; even when things seem out of control; even
when we think God has forsaken us, yet his mercy is at work to bring us
fulfillment and cause us to turn to him
with a song of praise on our lips.

- for pastors and churches to be bold in vision, passion and outreach
to Muslims in their areas.

to share Jesus with and disciple them

new faith in Jesus with other Muslims

Halifax is the centre of Muslim activity for the Province of Nova Scotia
with at least 10 Islamic centres (mosques) and musallas
(prayer locations, especially for Friday prayer). And there are other mosques
in Chebucto, Kearney Lake, Dartmouth, Bedford and Truro.

Though the original community of Muslims was primarily composed of
newcomers from Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh and India, continued immigration
has further diversified this community. Anf it is said thay Arabic
is the second most spoken language in Halifax.

while conservative estimates place the number of Muslims at almost 15000
in 2014, the Imama of a primary Halifax mosque estimates their population
somewhere between 25000 to 30000.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

Peter's Speech at Pentecost

a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!

refreshing for the presence of the Lord

b) Pray that the Lord will protect and deliver our nation from
danger and adversity

Conclusion:

Pray to the Lord and pray to seek His Wisdom and Justice. 

Pray to the Lord: "Dear God, thank You for never giving up on me 
and for patiently loving and caring for my wounded heart. 
Please help me love others with that same patient love."

Pray to the Lord and pray to know His mercies.

Pray to the Lord and pray to Him as creator of wealth.

Pray to the Lord and pray to endure temptation through Him.

Pray for Nova Scotia and her Muslim populations

- in and around Halifax and other cities

- on university campuses

- for new workers among Muslims

- for pastors and churches to be bold in vision, passion and outreach
to Muslims in their areas.

- for Muslims who are searching for a better way to find a Christian friend
to share Jesus with and disciple them

- for Muslim-background believers to be both wise and bold in sharing their
new faith in Jesus with other Muslims
