Matthew 9:27-34

The Healing of Two Blind Men

27 (Mt 15:22; 20:30-31) As Jesus departed from there, two blind men
followed Him, crying out and saying, "Son of David, have mercy on us!"
28 When He entered the house, the blind men came to Him.
And Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?"
They said to Him, "Yes, Lord."
29 (Mt 8:13) Then He touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith,
let it be done for you."
30 (Mt 8:4) And their eyes were opened, and Jesus strictly commanded them,
saying, "See that no one knows of it."
31 (Mk 7:36) But when they had departed,
they spread His fame in all that region.

[27] And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and
saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.
[28] And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and
Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto
him, Yea, Lord.
[29] Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto
you.
[30] And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying,
See that no man know it.
[31] But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that
country.

The Healing of a Mute Man

32 (Mt 4:24; 12:22-24) As they went out, they brought to Him a mute man
possessed with a demon. 
33 And when the demon was cast out, the mute man
spoke, and the crowds were amazed,
saying, "This has never been seen in Israel."
34 (Lk 11:15; Mk 3:22) But the Pharisees said,
"He casts out demons through the ruler of the demons." 

[32] As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with
a devil.
[33] And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes
marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.
[34] But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the
devils. 

Mark 6:1-6

The Rejection of Jesus at Nazareth

1 (Lk 4:16-30) He went away from there and came into His own country.
And His disciples followed Him.
2 (Mt 4:23; 7:28) When the Sabbath came, He began to teach
in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying,
"Where did this Man get this? What is this wisdom that is given Him,
that even miracles are done by His hands?
3 (Mt 11:6; 12:46) Is this not the carpenter,
the Son of Mary and the brother of James and Joseph and Judas and Simon?
Are not His sisters here with us?" And they took offense at Him.
4 (Jn 4:44; Lk 4:24) Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor,
except in his own country, and among his own relatives,
and in his own house."
5 (Ge 19:22; Mk 5:23) He could not do any miracles there,
except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them.
6 (Mt 9:35; Lk 13:22) And He was amazed because of their unbelief.

Matthew 13:53-58

The Rejection of Jesus at Nazareth

53 When Jesus finished these parables, He departed from there.
54 (Mt 2:23; 4:23) When He came to His own country, He taught them
in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said,
"Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works?
55 (Mk 6:3; Lk 3:23) Is He not the carpenter's son? Is His mother not
called Mary? And are not His brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?
56 And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man
get all these things?"
57 (Lk 4:24; Jn 4:44) And they took offense at Him.
But Jesus said to them,
"A prophet is not without honour except in his own country
and in his own house."

Matthew 9:35-38

The Compassion of Jesus

35 (Mt 4:23-24) Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages,
teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom,
and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
36 (Mk 6:34; Nu 27:17; Mt 14:14) But when He saw the crowds,
He was moved with compassion for them, because they fainted
and were scattered, like sheep without a shepherd.
37 (Lk 10:2) Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful,
but the laborers are few.
38 (2Th 3:1) Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest,
that He will send out laborers into His harvest." 

[35] And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their
synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every
sickness and every disease among the people.
[36] But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them,
because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no
shepherd.
[37] Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but

[38] Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth
labourers into his harvest. 

Mark 6:7-13

The Mission of the Twelve

Then He went to the surrounding villages, teaching.
7 (Mk 3:13-14) He called to Him the twelve, and began to send them out
two by two, and gave them authority over unclean spirits.
8 He commanded them to take nothing for their journey except a staff:
no bag, no bread, and no money in their purse,
9 (Ac 12:8) but to wear sandals, and not put on two tunics.
10 He said to them, "Wherever you enter a house, remain there
until you depart from that place.
11 (Ne 5:13; Ac 18:6) And whoever will not receive you or hear you,
when you depart from there, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony
against them. Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable
for Sodom and Gomorrah on the Day of Judgment than for that city."
12 (Mt 4:17; Eze 18:30) So they went out and preached that men should repent.
13 And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick
and healed them. 

[7] And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two
and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;
[8] And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save

[9] But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.

there abide till ye depart from that place.

the day of judgment, than for that city.

Matthew 10

The Mission of the Twelve Apostles

1 (Mk 3:13-15; 6:7-13) He called His twelve disciples to Him and gave them
authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of
sickness and all kinds of disease.
2 (Mt 4:18; 4:21) Now the names of the twelve apostles are these:
first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew, his brother;
James, the son of Zebedee, and John, his brother;
3 (Mk 3:18; Ac 1:13; Mt 9:9) Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew,
the tax collector; James, the son of Alphaeus; and Lebbaeus,
whose surname was Thaddaeus;
4 (Mt 26:14; Jn 13:2) Simon the Zealot; and Judas Iscariot,
who also betrayed Him.

[1] And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power
against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of
sickness and all manner of disease.

The Commissioning of the Twelve Apostles
Mk 6:7-13; Lk 9:1-6
5 (Jn 4:9; 2Ki 17:24-41) These twelve Jesus sent out,
and commanded them, saying,
"Do not go into the way of the Gentiles,
and do not enter any city of the Samaritans.
6 (Jer 50:6; Ps 119:176) But go rather to the lost sheep
of the house of Israel.
7 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) As you go, preach, saying,
'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'
8 (Ac 3:6) Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead,
and cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.
9 (Lk 22:35) "Provide neither gold nor silver nor copper
for your purses,
10 nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor shoes,
nor even staffs. For the workman is worthy of his keep.
11 "In whatever city or town you enter, inquire in it who is worthy.
And live there until you leave.
12 (1Sa 25:6) When you come into a house, greet it.
13 If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it.
But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.
14 (Ac 13:51; Ne 5:13) Whoever will not receive you, nor hear your words,
when you depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

Coming Persecutions
Mk 13:9-13; Lk 21:12-17

16 (Lk 10:3; Ge 3:1) "Look, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst
of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
17 (Mk 13:9; Mt 23:34; 5:22) But beware of men, for they will deliver you
up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues.
18 (Mt 8:4) You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake,
for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
19 (Ex 4:12; Mt 6:25) But when they deliver you up, take no thought of how
or what you will speak. For it will be given you at that time
what you will speak.
20 (Ac 4:8; 6:10) For it is not you who speak,
but the Spirit of your Father who speaks through you.
21 "The brother will deliver up the brother to death,
and the father the child. And the children will rise up
against their parents and cause them to be put to death.
22 (Mt 24:13; Mk 13:13; Mt 24:9) You will be hated by all men for My name's
sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.
23 (Mt 16:28; Ac 8:1) But when they persecute you in this city,
escape into another. For truly I say to you, you will not have gone
through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
24 (Lk 6:40; Jn 13:16) "The disciple is not above his teacher,
nor the servant above his master.
25 (Mk 3:22; Mt 9:34) It is enough for the disciple that he be like
his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called
the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call
those of his household?

Whom to Fear
Lk 12:2-7

26 (Mk 4:22; Lk 8:17) "Therefore do not fear them. For nothing is covered that
will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.
27 (Ac 5:20) What I tell you in darkness, speak in the light. And what you
hear in the ear, preach on the housetops.
28 (Isa 8:12-13; 51:12) Do not fear those who kill the body
but are not able to kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able
to destroy both soul and body in hell.
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall
to the ground without your Father.
30 (1Sa 14:45; 2Sa 14:11) But the very hairs of your head
are all numbered.
31 (Mt 6:26) Therefore do not fear. You are more valuable than many sparrows.

[26] Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not
be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.
[27] What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear
in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.
[28] And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the
soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in
hell.

fall on the ground without your Father.

Confessing and Denying Christ
Lk 12:8-9

32 (Rev 3:5; Ro 10:9-10) "Whoever will confess Me before men,
him will I confess also before My Father who is in heaven.
33 (2Ti 2:12; Mk 8:38) But whoever will deny Me before men,
him will I also deny before My Father who is in heaven.

[32] Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess
also before my Father which is in heaven.
[33] But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my
Father which is in heaven.

Not Peace, but a Sword
Lk 12:51-53; 14:26-27

34 "Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth.
I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
35 (Mt 10:21) For I have come to turn
'a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
36 (Mic 7:6; Ps 41:9) a man's foes will be those of his own household.'
37 (Lk 14:26; Dt 33:9) "He who loves father or mother more than Me
is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me
is not worthy of Me.
38 (Mt 16:24; Lk 14:27) And He who does not take his cross
and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
39 (Lk 17:33; Jn 12:25) He who finds his life will lose it,
and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.

[34] Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send
peace, but a sword.
[35] For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the
daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in
law.
[36] And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
[37] He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and
he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
[38] And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy
of me.
[39] He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for
my sake shall find it.

Rewards
Mk 9:41

40 (Mt 18:5; Lk 9:48) "He who receives you receives Me,
and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.
41 (3Jn 1:5-8) He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet
shall receive a prophet's reward. And he who receives a righteous man
in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.
42 (Mt 25:40; Heb 6:10) And whoever gives even a cup of cold water
to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple,
truly I tell you, he shall in no way lose his reward."

[40] He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth
him that sent me.
[41] He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a
prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a
righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.
[42] And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup

slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.

neither will He keep his anger forever.
10 (Ps 42:3; Joel 2:17) He does not treat us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
11 (Ps 42:5; 43:5) For as the heavens are high above the earth,
so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
so far has He removed our transgressions from us.
13 Like a father shows compassion to his children,
so the Lord gives compassion to those who fear Him.
14 For He knows how we are formed;
He remembers that we are dust.
15 As for man, his days are as grass;
as a flower of the field he flourishes.
16 For the hot wind passes over it, and it is gone;
the place where it was is not known.
17 But the mercy of the Lord
is from everlasting to everlasting

[17] But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them
that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; 

"God has been so good to us! I want to thank Him for our anniversary." Terry's
voice was steady, and the tears in her eyes showed her sincerity. Those in our
small group were deeply moved. We knew what past years had held for Terry and 
her husband. Though a believer, Robert suffered from the sudden onset of 
severe mental illness and had taken the life of their four-year-old daughter. 
He would be institutionalised for decades, but Terry visited him, and God did 
a beautiful healing work, helping her forgive. Despite profound heartache, 
their love for each other grew.

Love and forgiveness like that could only come from one source. David writes 
about God this way, "He does not treat us as our sins deserve . . . . As far
as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from 
us" (Psalm 103:10, 12).

The mercy God shows us comes through His expansive love: "For as high as the 
heavens are above the earth, so great is his love" for us (v. 11). Love so 
profound compelled Him to go to the depths of the cross and grave to take away
our sins so that He could bring all who "receive him" (John 1:12) 
home to Himself.

Terry was right. "God has been so good to us!" His love and forgiveness reach 
beyond unthinkable boundaries and offer us life that never ends.

Week 8 Guided by Grace Day 5 - Waiting for the Wind

Is 40:31

31 (2Co 4:16; Ps 103:5; Ex 19:4)
but those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary,
and they shall walk and not faint.

31 but they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint.

High above civilisation, alone on his craggy peak, the eagle waits.
He watches, senses, and then, with effortless grace, he spreads
his wings and soars. He does not flap frantically to gain altitude,
he merely turns his wings into the wind and rises.
Is 40:31 promises that we, too, can be like the eagle,
mounting up on wings, soaring effortlessly,
without weariness. But this is not often our experience.
We usually flap around like invalid pigeons, scratching
for mere existence, flying only when our place in the park is disturbed.
We need to learn to wait on the Lord. Like the wind that raises the eagle
to the heights, the wind of the Spirit will lift us up as well - beyond
the weariness of daily life, beyond the struggle for existence, beyond
the plodding pace of normal interaction.
But the eagle does not rise without plunging for the cliff into the wind.
His ability to stay aloft is based on his understand of wind currents;
when the wind is against him, he rises. He waits on the cliff
until the right moment, then allows the contrary breezes to lift him up.
Most of us are grounded by the winds that are against us. We give up
and never take the first flight. We fear the plunge from the cliff into the
buoyant breath of God, and so we stand fixed, afraid to launch out.
But when we do take the risk, when we wait upon the Lord, and then
give ourselves in obedience to a free-fall from the cliffs of his will,
we discover that there is rest in soaring with him. We do not have to
struggle; we have only to fly, and in flying, to find new strength.

Application

a) Why is "waiting upon the Lord" essential
to "Mounting up with wings as the eagle"?

Charlottetown does not currently (fall 2014) have a local CNMM network.
Pray with us for God's people to come together in reaching Muslims
cooperatively across denominational and organisational lines.

More than 200 attended the Eid festival at the end of Ramadan, the Islamic
month of fasting during daylight hours and the reading of the Qur'an, at
the Dar as-Salam mosque in 2014. This second mosque established
in Charlottetown, the other being the Muslims Association of PEI.
As of mid-2014,there are between 250 to 300 families, mostly in Charlottetown.

The Muslims of Charlottetown see their community as symbolically important
for this nation since this is known as the "birthplace of Canada". Yet we were
established as the "Dominion of Canada" with an appeal not only to
monarchial authority, but even more to God's higher Biblical authority as
shown in Psalm 72:8, "May he have dominion from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth."
Let us intercede together for:

- the growing Muslim population of Charlottetown and spreading
outward through PEI to encounter the Prince of Peace.
- believers to have faith and vision to reach out to the Muslim Community
in contextual ways to share the Gospel
- churches and ministries to rise up in wisdom, knowledge and understanding,
giving and training, coaching and encouragement to believers reaching
out to Muslims locally.
- a prayer movement to be established, feeding a growing move of Yahweh's
Spirit in His churches and people , and an awakening an openness
and spiritual hunger in Muslims for relationship with the Father
through the Son.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity

Pray to the Lord: "Merciful God, please help me to revel in Your love 
and to grow in it. Love through me, that others may know Your perfect 
love too!"

Pray to the Lord and pray for the Lord to give you strength and wisdom.

Pray to the Lord and pray to be a generous giver.

Pray to the Lord and pray to lay up treasure in Heaven.
