Mark 8:22-30

The Healing of a Blind Man at Bethsaida

22 (Mt 11:21; Mk 6:45) He came to Bethsaida. And they brought a blind man
to Him and entreated Him to touch him.
23 (Mk 7:33; 5:23) He took the blind man by the hand
and led him out of the town. When He had spit on his eyes
and put His hands on him, He asked him, "Do you see anything?"
24 He looked up and said, "I see men as trees, walking."
25 Then again He put His hands on his eyes and made him look up.
And he was restored and saw everyone clearly.
26 (Mt 8:4) He sent him home away to his house, saying,
"Neither go into the town, nor tell it to anyone in the town."

[22] And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and
besought him to touch him.
[23] And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and
when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he
saw ought.
[24] And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
[25] After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up:

Peter's Declaration About Jesus
Mt 16:13-20; Lk 9:18-21

27 (Lk 9:18-20) Jesus and His disciples went out into the towns
of Caesarea Philippi. On the way He asked His disciples,
"Who do men say that I am?"
28 (Mal 4:5; Mt 14:2) They answered, "John the Baptist, but some say,
Elijah; and others, one of the prophets."
29 (Jn 6:69; 11:27) He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
Peter answered Him, "You are the Christ."
30 (Mt 16:20; Lk 9:21) He warned them that they should tell no one about Him. 

[27] And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea
Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do
men say that I am?

Peter's Declaration About Jesus

13 (Lk 9:18-20; Mt 8:20) When Jesus came into the region of Caes­area
Philippi, He asked His disciples, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?"
14 (Mt 14:2; Mk 6:15) They said, "Some say that You are John the Baptist,
others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
16 (Ps 42:2; Jn 11:27) Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ,
the Son of the living God."
17 (Gal 1:16; Jn 1:42; 21:15-17) Jesus answered him,
"Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for flesh and blood
has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
18 (Jn 1:42; Job 38:17) And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock
I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
19 (Mt 18:18; Isa 22:22; Jn 20:23) I will give you the keys of the kingdom

Peter's Declaration About Jesus

with Him. And He asked them, "Who do the people say that I am?"
19 (Lk 9:7-8; Mt 14:2) They answered, "John the Baptist.
But some say Elijah. And others say that one of the old prophets has risen."
20 (Jn 1:49; 11:27) He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
Peter answered, "The Christ of God."

must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders
and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed,
and after three days rise again.
32 (Jn 16:25; 16:29) He said this openly. And Peter took Him
and began to rebuke Him.
33 (Mt 4:10; Php 3:19) But when He had turned around
and looked at His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying,
"Get behind Me, Satan! For you are not mindful of the things of God,
but the things of men."
34 (Mt 10:38) When He had called the people to Him, with His disciples,
He said to them, "If any man would come after Me,
let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.
35 (Mt 10:39; Lk 17:33) For whoever would save his life will lose it.
But whoever would lose his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it.
36 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world

Mark 9:1

before they see the kingdom of God come with power." 

[1] And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them
that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the
kingdom of God come with power.

Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection

21 (Mt 17:22-23; 27:63; 17:12) From that time on, Jesus began to show
His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things
from the elders and chief priests and scribes,
and be killed, and be raised on the third day.
22 Then Peter took Him and began rebuking Him, saying,
"Far be it from You, Lord! This shall not happen to You."
23 (Mt 4:10; Mk 8:33) But He turned and said to Peter,
"Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful
of the things that are of God, but those that are of men."
24 (Mt 10:38; Lk 14:27) Then Jesus said to His disciples,
"If anyone will come after Me, let him deny himself,
and take up his cross, and follow Me.
25 (Mt 10:39; Jn 12:25) For whoever would save his life will lose it,
and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

22 (Lk 24:7; Mt 17:12) saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things,
and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes,

23 (Mt 10:38-39) Then He said to them all, "If anyone will come after Me,
let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
24 (Lk 17:33) For whoever will save his life will lose it, but whoever
loses his life for My sake will save it.
25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world,
yet loses or forfeits himself?
26 (Mt 16:27; 25:31) For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words,
of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when He comes in His own glory
and in the glory of His Father and of the holy angels.

[27] But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not
taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God. 

Mark 9:2-13

2 (Mk 5:37; Lk 9:28-36) After six days Jesus took with Him Peter and James
and John and led them up a high mountain, alone by themselves.
And He was transfigured before them.
3 (Mt 28:3; Da 7:9) His garments became shiny, extremely white as snow,
such as no launderer on earth could whiten them.
4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses.
And they were talking with Jesus.
5 Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here.
Let us make three sanctuaries: one for You, and one for Moses,
and one for Elijah."
6 For he did not know what to say, because they were very afraid.
7 (Mt 3:17; 2Pe 1:17) Then a cloud overshadowed them,
and a voice came out of the cloud, saying,
"This is My beloved Son. Listen to Him."
8 Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone
with them except ­Jesus only.
9 (Mk 5:43) As they came down the mountain, He warned them to tell
no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
10 They kept that statement to themselves, questioning each other
what the rising from the dead meant.
11 (Mt 11:14; Mal 4:5) And they asked Him,
"Why do the scribes say that Elijah must first come?"
12 (Lk 23:11; Zec 13:7) He answered, "Elijah indeed comes first to restore
all things. Yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He should suffer
many things and be treated with contempt?
13 (Mt 11:14) But I say to you that Elijah has indeed come,
and they have done to him whatever they wished, as it is written of him."

[6] For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.
[7] And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of
the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
[8] And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any
more, save Jesus only with themselves.
[9] And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they
should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen
from the dead.
[10] And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another
what the rising from the dead should mean.
[11] And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first
come?
[12] And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth
all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer
many things, and be set at nought.
[13] But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto
him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him. 

Matthew 17:1-13

The Transfiguration
Mk 9:2-13; Lk 9:28-36

1 (Mt 26:37; Mk 5:37) After six days Jesus took Peter, James,
and John his brother and brought them up to a high mountain alone,
2 (Ps 104:2; Mt 28:3) and was transfigured before them. His face shone
as the sun, and His garments became white as the light.
3 Suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.
4 (Lk 9:33) Then Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here.
If You wish, let us make three tabernacles here: one for You, one for Moses,
and one for Elijah."
5 (Mt 3:17; Isa 42:1) While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud
overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is My beloved Son,
with whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him."
6 (2Pe 1:18) When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces
and were filled with awe.
7 (Da 8:18; 10:10) But ­Jes­us came and touched them and said,
"Rise, and do not be afraid."
8 When they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
9 (Mk 8:30) As they came down the mountain, Jesus commanded them,
"Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead."
10 (Mt 11:14; Mal 4:5-6) His disciples asked Him,
"Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"
11 (Lk 1:16-17; Mal 4:6) Jesus answered,
"Elijah truly does first come and will restore all things.
12 (Mt 16:21) But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not
know him, but did to him whatever they pleased. Likewise, the Son of Man
will also suffer at their hands."
13 Then the disciples understood that He was speaking to them of John
the Baptist.

Luke 9:28-36

The Transfiguration

28 (Lk 6:12; 8:51) About eight days after these sayings, He took Peter
and John and James and went up onto a mountain to pray.
29 As He prayed, the appearance of His countenance was altered,
and His clothing was white and glistening.
30 And suddenly two men were talking with Him, who were Moses and Elijah,
31 who appeared in glory and spoke of His departure
which He was to accomplish in Jerusalem.
32 (Da 8:18; Jn 1:14) Peter and those who were with him
were heavy with sleep. But waking thoroughly, they saw His glory
and the two men who stood with Him.
33 (Mk 9:5-6)As they departed from Him, Peter said to Jesus,
"Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us make three sanctuaries:
one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah,"
not knowing what he said.
34 While he was speaking, a cloud came and overshadowed them.
And they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
35 (Mt 3:17; Isa 42:1) A voice came from out of the cloud, saying,
"This is My beloved Son. Listen to Him."
36 (Mt 17:9) When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone.
They kept silent and told no one in those days anything they had seen. 

[28] And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took
Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.
[29] And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his
raiment was white and glistering.
[30] And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:
[31] Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should
accomplish at Jerusalem.
[32] But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when
they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.
[33] And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus,
Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one

Ruth 2:1-2,5-11

Ruth Meets Boaz

1 (Ru 3:2; 3:12) Now Naomi had a relative of her husband, 
a man of prominence and means from the clan of Elimelek. His name was Boaz.
2 (Lev 19:9; 23:22) Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, "Please let me go into
the field and glean among the heads of grain behind anyone 
in whose eyes I may find favor."
Naomi said to her, "Go, my daughter.." 
And they said to him, "May the Lord bless you."
5 Then Boaz said to his servant who was in charge of his harvesters, 
"Whose young woman is this?"
6 (Ru 1:22) So the servant who was in charge of his harvesters answered, 
"She is the young Moabitess woman who came back with Naomi 
from the land of Moab. 
7 She said, 'Please let me glean and gather grain among the bundles 
behind the harvesters.' So she came and has remained from morning 
until now, though she rested a little while in the house."
8 Then Boaz said to Ruth, "Listen, my daughter. Do not go to glean 
in another field and leave this one. Stay close to my young women. 
9 Keep your eyes on the field in which they reap and follow after them. 
I have commanded the men not to touch you. When you are thirsty, 
go to the vessels and drink from what the young men have drawn."
10 (1Sa 25:23) So she fell on her face, bowed down to the ground, 
and said to him, "Why have I found favor in your eyes, 
that you should acknowledge me, a foreigner?"
11 Boaz answered and said to her, "I have been told all that you have done 
for your mother-in-law after the death of your husband, 
and how you left your father and mother and your homeland 
and came to a people you did not know before. 

[1] And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of wealth, of the
family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
[2] And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and
glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said
unto her, Go, my daughter.
[5] Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose
damsel is this?
[6] And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is
the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab:
[7] And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers
among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning
until now, that she tarried a little in the house.
[8] Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean
in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens:
[9] Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after
them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and
when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the
young men have drawn.
[10] Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said
unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take
knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?
[11] And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all
that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband:
and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy
nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.

Colossians 3:12

12 (Eph 4:2; Lk 1:78) So embrace, as the elect of God, holy and beloved,
a spirit of mercy, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, and longsuffering. 

[12] Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of
mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 

When my mom was in hospice and nearing her last days on earth, I was touched
by the genuine kindness of a nursing home caregiver. After gently lifting my 
frail mother from her chair and tucking her into bed, the nursing assistant 
caressed Mom's head while leaning over her to say, "You are so sweet." Then 
she asked how I was doing. Her kindness moved me to tears then and still does
today.

Hers was a simple act of kindness, but it was just what I needed in that 
moment. It helped me to cope, knowing that in this woman's eyes my mom wasn't 
just a patient. She cared for and saw her as a person of great worth.

When Naomi and Ruth were bereft after the loss of their husbands, Boaz showed 
kindness to Ruth by allowing her to glean leftover grain behind the 
harvesters. He even ordered the male harvesters to leave her alone 
(Ruth 2:8-9). His kindness was prompted by Ruth's care for Naomi: "I've been 
told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of 
your husband" (v. 11). He saw her not as a foreigner 
or widow but as a woman in need.

God wants us to "Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, 
bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;"
(Colossians 3:12). As God helps us, our simple acts of kindness can cheer 
hearts, bring hope, and inspire kindness in others.

Week 1 Knowing God's Word Day 2 - Growing Up

2 Tim 3:16-17

16 (Ro 15:4) All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable
for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction
in righteousness,
17 (1Ti 6:11; 2Ti 2:21) that the man of God may be complete,
thoroughly equipped for every good work.

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable
for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction
in righteousness:
17 that the man of God may be perfect,
throughly furnished unto all good works.

"I can't wait till I get big!" Marc, age 5, declared. "Then I do
what I want!" Most of us, as children, shared Marc's statement.
We looked forward to that "magic age" - 16, 18, 21 - when we
would be adults: mature, able to make our own decisions.
We find, of course, that adulthood has its own share of
difficulties and conflicts. But even in our spiritual lives
we often long for a "magic moment" of maturity. As one woman
confessed, "Ever since I became a Christian, I've hoped I'd wake up
one morning to find myself mature."
But growth in the spiritual life comes gradually, like growth in
the physical world. In 2 Tim 2:16-17, Paul gives the young pastor
Timothy an important key to spiritual growing up - the Word of God.
The Word is "profitable" or "useful," Paul says, for "teaching" - that is,
for developing a right concept of God. Scripture offers "rebuke" when
we go wrong, "correction" to set us on the right path, and "training
in righteousness" so that we can grow in the image of Christ.
The purpose of Scripture's work in our lives, Paul emphasises,
is that we may be "perfect" - mature, equipped for the good things
God has for us to do. Such maturity does not come easily
or instantaneously, but it does come - sometimes imperceptibly -
as we submit our lives to the transforming power of God's Word.

Application

a) In what areas of my life do I need to grow? How can I benefit
from the Bible's

iv) training in righteousness?

Charlottetown does not currently (fall 2014) have a local CNMM network.
Pray with us for God's people to come together in reaching Muslims
cooperatively across denominational and organisational lines.

More than 200 attended the Eid festival at the end of Ramadan, the Islamic
month of fasting during daylight hours and the reading of the Qur'an, at
the Dar as-Salam mosque in 2014. This second mosque established
in Charlottetown, the other being the Muslims Association of PEI.
As of mid-2014,there are between 250 to 300 families, mostly in Charlottetown.

The Muslims of Charlottetown see their community as symbolically important
for this nation since this is known as the "birthplace of Canada". Yet we were
established as the "Dominion of Canada" with an appeal not only to
monarchial authority, but even more to God's higher Biblical authority as
shown in Psalm 72:8, "May he have dominion from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth."
Let us intercede together for:

- the growing Muslim population of Charlottetown and spreading
outward through PEI to encounter the Prince of Peace.
- believers to have faith and vision to reach out to the Muslim Community
in contextual ways to share the Gospel
- churches and ministries to rise up in wisdom, knowledge and understanding,
giving and training, coaching and encouragement to believers reaching
out to Muslims locally.
- a prayer movement to be established, feeding a growing move of Yahweh's
Spirit in His churches and people , and an awakening an openness
and spiritual hunger in Muslims for relationship with the Father
through the Son.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice
and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,
let this be known to you, and listen to my words.
15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose,
since it is the third hour of the day.
16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,
'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.'

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity

(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...)

Conclusion:

Pray to the Lord and pray to feel the revelation power of the Holy Ghost to 
Simon Peter. 

Pray to the Lord: "Dear God, I want to be clothed in kindness. 
Please give me opportunities to show it to others."

Pray to the Lord and pray to know the Word, The Holy bible, as the Inspired 
Work of the Lord.

Pray to the Lord and pray to for your soul and spirit to prosper.

Pray to the Lord and pray to for Him to give you strength.
