John 12:37-50

The Unbelief of the Jews

37 Though He had done so many signs before them,
yet they did not believe in Him.
38 (Isa 53:1; Ro 10:16) This fulfilled the word spoken by Isaiah the prophet:
"Lord, who has believed our report,
and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?" (Isa 53:1.)
39 (Jn 5:44) Therefore they could not believe. For Isaiah said again:
40 (Isa 6:10; Mt 13:13-15) "He has blinded their eyes
and hardened their hearts,
lest they should see with their eyes
and perceive with their hearts and turn,
and I would heal them." (Isa 6:10.)
41 (Isa 6:1-5; 6:9-10) Isaiah said this when he saw His glory
and spoke of Him.
42 (Jn 7:13; 9:22) Yet many of the rulers also believed in Him.
But because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him,
lest they be put out of the synagogue.
43 (Jn 5:44; 5:41) For they loved the praise of men more than the praise
of God.

[37] But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed

[38] That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he
spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the

[39] Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,

not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted,
and I should heal them.
[41] These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
[42] Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but
because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put
out of the synagogue:
[43] For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. 

Judgment by Jesus' Word

44 (Mt 10:40; Jn 5:24) Jesus cried out, "He who believes in Me believes
not only in Me, but in Him who sent Me.
45 He who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.
46 (Jn 8:12; 3:19) I have come as a light into the world, that whoever
believes in Me should not remain in darkness.
47 (Jn 3:17) "If anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge
him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 (Lk 10:16; Ro 2:16) He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words,
has that which judges him. The word I have spoken will judge him
on the last day.
49 (Jn 3:11; 5:30) For I have not spoken on My own authority,
but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say
and what I should speak.
50 (Jn 6:68) I know that His command is eternal life.
Therefore what I say, I say as the Father tells me." 

[44] Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but
on him that sent me.
[45] And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
[46] I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should
not abide in darkness.
[47] And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I
came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
[48] He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth
him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
[49] For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave
me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
[50] And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak
therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. 

Mark 11:12-14

The Cursing of the Fig Tree
Mt 21:18-19

12 (Mt 4:2; 21:18-22) On the next day when they had returned from Bethany,
He was hungry.
13 (Lk 13:6-9) Seeing from afar a fig tree with leaves, He went to see
if perhaps He might find anything on it. When He came to it,
He found nothing except leaves, for it was not the season for figs.
14 (Mt 21:19) Jesus said to it, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again."
And His disciples heard it.

[12] And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:
[13] And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he
might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but
leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
[14] And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter
for ever. And his disciples heard it. 

Matthew 21:18-22

The Cursing of the Fig Tree
Mk 11:12-14, 20-24

18 (Mt 4:2) Now in the morning as He returned to the city, He became hungry.
19 (Lk 13:6-9; Mk 11:14) When He saw a fig tree by the road,
He went to it but found nothing on it except leaves.
He said to it, "Let no fruit ever grow on you again." Immediately
the fig tree withered away.
20 When the disciples saw it, they were amazed, saying,
"How did the fig tree wither away instantly?"
21 (Mt 17:20; Jas 1:6) Jesus answered them, "Truly I say to you,
if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only
do what was done to the fig tree, but also, if you say to this mountain,
'Be removed, and be thrown into the sea,' it will be done.
22 (Mt 7:7; Jn 15:7) And whatever you ask in prayer, if you believe,
you will receive." 

[18] Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered.
[19] And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing
thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee
henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.
[20] And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the
fig tree withered away!
[21] Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have
faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig
tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be
thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
[22] And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall
receive. 

Mark 11:15-19

The Cleansing of the Temple
Mt 21:12-17; Lk 19:45-48; Jn 2:13-22

15 (Mt 21:12-16) And they came to Jerusalem. Jesus went into the temple
and began to drive out those who sold and bought in the temple, and He
overturned the tables of the moneychangers and the seats of those who sold
doves.
16 And He would not allow anyone to carry any vessel through the temple.
17 (Isa 56:7; Jer 7:11) And He taught them, and said, "Is it not written,
'My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations'
(Isa 56:7.)? But you have made it a 'den of thieves.'(Jer 7:11). "
18 (Mt 7:28; Mk 12:12) The scribes and chief priests heard it
and looked for a way to kill Him. For they feared Him,
because all the people were astonished at His teaching.
19 (Lk 21:37; Mk 11:11) When evening came, He went out of the city. 

[15] And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began
to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the
tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;
[16] And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the
temple.
[17] And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be
called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of
thieves.
[18] And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might
destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at
his doctrine.

Matthew 21:12-17

14 The blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them.

and scribes saw the ­wonderful things that He did, and the children
crying out in the temple, "Hosanna to the Son of David,"
they were extremely displeased
16 (Ps 8:2; Mt 11:25) and said to Him, "Do You hear what these are saying?"
Jesus said to them, "Yes. Have you never read,
'Out of the mouth of children and infants
You have perfected praise' (Ps 8:2.)?"

Luke 19:45-48

The Cleansing of the Temple
Mt 21:12-17; Mk 11:15-19; Jn 2:13-22

45 (Mt 21:12-13; Mk 11:15-17) Then He entered the temple
and began to drive out those who sold and bought in it,
46 (Jer 7:11; Isa 56:7) saying to them, "It is written,
'My house will be a house of prayer,'(Isa 56:7.) but you have made it
'a den of thieves.'(Jer 7:11.)"
47 (Mt 26:55; Mk 11:18) He taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests,
the scribes, and the leaders of the people tried to kill Him.
48 Yet they could not find a way to do it, for all the people
were very attentive to hear Him. 

[45] And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold
therein, and them that bought;
[46] Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but
ye have made it a den of thieves.
[47] And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the
scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,
[48] And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very
attentive to hear him. 

Mark 11:20-33

The Lesson From the Fig Tree
Mt 21:20-22

20 In the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree withered
from the roots.
21 Peter, calling to remembrance, said to Him,
"Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away."
22 Jesus answered them, "Have faith in God.
23 (Mt 17:20; 1Co 13:2) For truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain,
'Be removed and be thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart,
but believes that what he says will come to pass, he will have whatever
he says.
24 (1Jn 3:22) Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray,
believe that you will receive them, and you will have them.
25 (Col 3:13; Mt 6:12) And when you stand praying, forgive if you have
anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven may also
forgive you your sins.
26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven
forgive your sins."

[20] And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up

[21] And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the
fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.
[22] And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
[23] For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain,
Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his
heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to
pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
[24] Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray,
believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
[25] And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that
your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
[26] But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven
forgive your trespasses.

The Question of Jesus' Authority
Mt 21:23-27; Lk 20:1-8

27 (Mt 21:23-27; Lk 20:1-8) They came again to Jerusalem,
and as He was walking in the temple, the chief priests
and the scribes and the elders came to Him,
28 (Ex 2:14) and said, "By what authority are You doing these things,
and who gave You this authority to do them?"
29 Jesus answered them, "I will also ask of you one question. Answer Me,
and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
30 Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men? Answer Me."
31 They debated among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,'
He will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?'
32 (Mt 14:5; 21:46) But if we say, 'From men' "-they feared the people,
for everyone held John to be a real prophet.
33 So they answered Jesus, "We do not know."
Jesus answered them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority
I do these things." 

[27] And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple,
there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders,
[28] And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who
gave thee this authority to do these things?
[29] And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one
question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these
things.
[30] The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me.
[31] And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From

counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.
[33] And they answered and said unto Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus
answering saith unto them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do
these things. 

Matthew 21:23-27

The Question of Jesus' Authority

23 (Ac 4:7; Ex 2:14) When He entered the temple, the chief priests
and the elders of the people came up to Him as He was teaching,
and said, "By what authority are You doing these things?
And who gave You this authority?"
24 Jesus answered them, "I also will ask you one question.
If you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things.
25 Where did the baptism of John come from? From heaven or from men?"
They reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,'
He will say to us, 'Then why did you not believe him?'
26 (Mk 6:20; Mt 11:9) But if we say, 'From men,' we are afraid of the people,
for all hold John as a prophet."
27 So they answered Jesus, "We do not know."
Then He said to them,
"Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."

2 Corinthians 5:1-10

1 (2Co 4:7; 2Pe 1:13-14) We know that if our earthly house, this tent,
were to be destroyed, we have an eternal building of God in the heavens,
a house not made with hands.
2 (Ro 8:23; 1Co 15:53-54) In this one we groan, earnestly desiring to be
sheltered with our house which is from heaven.
3 Thus being sheltered, we shall not be found unsheltered.
4 (1Co 15:53-54) For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened,
not because we wish to be unclothed, but to be further clothed,
so that what is mortal might be swallowed up by life.
5 (Ro 8:23; 2Co 1:22) Now He who has created us for this very thing is God,
who also has given to us the guarantee of the Spirit.
6 (Heb 11:13) Therefore we are always confident, knowing that while we are
at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord.
7 (1Co 13:12; 2Co 4:18) For we walk by faith, not by sight.
8 Instead, I say that we are confident and willing to be absent from the body
and to be present with the Lord.
9 So whether present or absent, we labor that we may be accepted by Him.
10 (Mt 16:27; Ac 10:42) For we must all appear before the judgment seat of
Christ, that each one may receive his recompense in the body, according
to what he has done, whether it was good or bad.

Jeremy didn't realise what he was getting into when he arrived at the 
university for his three-year course and asked for the cheapest dorm room 
available. "It was awful," he recounted. "The room and its bathroom were 
terrible." But he had little money and little choice. "All I could do," he 
said, "was think, I have a nice home to go back to in three years' time, so 
I'll stick with this and make the most of my time here."

Jeremy's story mirrors the everyday challenges of living in an "earthly tent"
-a human body that will die (2 Corinthians 5:1), operating in a world that is 
passing away (1 John 2:17). Thus we "groan and are burdened" 
(2 Corinthians 5:4) as we struggle to cope with the many difficulties life 
throws at us.

What keeps us going is the certain hope that one day we'll have an immortal, 
resurrected body-a "heavenly dwelling" (v. 4)-and be living in a world free 
of its present groaning and frustration (Romans 8:19-22). This hope enables 
us to make the most of this present life God has lovingly provided. He'll 
also help us to use the resources and talents He's given us, so we can serve 
Him and others. And that's why "Wherefore we labour, that, whether present 
or absent, we may be accepted of him." (2 Corinthians 5:9).

Rom 8:1-2

Life in the Spirit

1 (1Co 1:30; 2Co 5:17) There is therefore now no condemnation
for those who are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
2 (1Co 15:45; Ro 6:18; Jn 8:32) For the law of the Spirit of life
in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.

The Spirit of God Within You
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free
from the law of sin and death.

In the classic movie, I want to live! actress Susan Hayward
plays a woman convicted of murder and sentenced to be executed.
The suspense builds; the execution is delayed as the officials
wait for a word of pardon. Finally, the woman in executed;
the call comes, and the pardon has been granted, but it is too late.
When no pardon is granted, condemnation leads to death. Our sin
marks us as "guilty" before God, and we deserve the wages of sin,
which is death. But in Jesus Christ, the pardon does come - and
it comes in time. Our sin deserves condemnation by God, and yet
he forgives us because Christ paid the penalty for us,
But we face other kinds of condemnation as well - self-condemnation,
that internal accusation that we still, somehow, must pay the price
of our own sin. Others often condemn us as well, offering much less
forgiveness and mercy than God does. And the Enemy of our souls condemns
us, trying to convince us that we don't, after all, have real freedom
from sin.
Yet Paul tells us in Romans 8, "There is therefore now no condemnation
for those who are in Christ Jesus". God has forgiven us freely; he has
granted his pardon. And in light of his forgiveness, how can we live
under the condemnation of others - or even of ourselves?
We are free, Paul says - free from the "law of sin and death,"
free to live in the liberty of the Spirit. The stay of execution
has come: the pardon has been granted. Never again can we tried
for the same crimes: never again must we live under the burden
of condemnation.

Application

a) Have I ever lived under the burden of condemnation from myself
or others? Why?

b) How can Romans 8:1-2 help me live in freedom of such condemnation?

Charlottetown does not currently (fall 2014) have a local CNMM network.
Pray with us for God's people to come together in reaching Muslims
cooperatively across denominational and organisational lines.

More than 200 attended the Eid festival at the end of Ramadan, the Islamic
month of fasting during daylight hours and the reading of the Qur'an, at
the Dar as-Salam mosque in 2014. This second mosque established
in Charlottetown, the other being the Muslims Association of PEI.
As of mid-2014,there are between 250 to 300 families, mostly in Charlottetown.

The Muslims of Charlottetown see their community as symbolically important
for this nation since this is known as the "birthplace of Canada". Yet we were
established as the "Dominion of Canada" with an appeal not only to
monarchial authority, but even more to God's higher Biblical authority as
shown in Psalm 72:8, "May he have dominion from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth."
Let us intercede together for:

- the growing Muslim population of Charlottetown and spreading
outward through PEI to encounter the Prince of Peace.
- believers to have faith and vision to reach out to the Muslim Community
in contextual ways to share the Gospel
- churches and ministries to rise up in wisdom, knowledge and understanding,
giving and training, coaching and encouragement to believers reaching
out to Muslims locally.
- a prayer movement to be established, feeding a growing move of Yahweh's
Spirit in His churches and people , and an awakening an openness
and spiritual hunger in Muslims for relationship with the Father
through the Son.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity

I) Pray for the leaders of Northwest Territories, Yukon and Nunavut,
that God's Spirit would influence then to act justly,
serve with integrity
and honour high moral standards. ( 1 Tim 2:1 - 4

1 Therefore I exhort first of all that you make supplications,
prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for everyone,
2 (Ezr 6:10) for kings and for all who are in authority,
that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and honesty,
3(1Ti 1:1; Lk 1:47) for this is good
and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
4 (Eze 18:23; 18:32)who desires all men to be saved
and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications,
prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 for kings, and for all that are in authority;
that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

II) Pray for the churches of the province,
that they would be lighthouses
beaming forth the illuminating truth of God's Word.

Conclusion:

Pray to the Lord and pray to know His Authority. 

Pray to the Lord: "Father, I look forward to being with You 
in Your heavenly home. Thank You for the promise and strength this hope 
gives me each day. "

Pray to the Lord and pray to know that the Salvation of Jesus Christ frees
you from all condemnation.

Pray to the Lord and pray to know the Poverty of the Lord.

Pray to the Lord and pray to know the Lord's redeeming power.
