Galatians 3:15-25

The Law and the Promise

15 (Heb 9:17) Brothers, I am speaking in human terms: Though it is only
a man's covenant, yet if it is ratified, no one annuls or adds to it.
16 (Ge 12:7; Lk 1:55) Now the promises were made to Abraham and his Seed.
He does not say, "and to seeds," meaning many, but "and to your Seed,"
(Ge 12:7; 13:15; 24:7.) meaning one, who is Christ.
17 (Ge 15:13; Ac 7:6) And this I say, that the law, which came
four hundred and thirty years later, does not annul the covenant
that was ratified by God in Christ, so as to nullify the promise.
18 For if the inheritance comes from the law, it no longer comes from
the promise. But God gave it to Abraham through a promise.
19 (Ac 7:53; Gal 3:16; Dt 5:5) What purpose then does the law serve?
It was added because of transgressions, until the Seed should come
to whom the promise was made. And it was ordained through angels
by the hand of a mediator.
20 (1Ti 2:5; Dt 6:4) Now a mediator is not a mediator
for only one party, but God is one.

[15] Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's
covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.
[16] Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And
to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
[17] And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in
Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot
disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
[18] For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God
gave it to Abraham by promise.
[19] Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions,
till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained
by angels in the hand of a mediator.
[20] Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. 

Slaves and Sons

21 (Gal 2:21; 2:17) Is the law then contrary to the promises of God?
God forbid! For if there had been a law given which could have given life,
righteousness would indeed come through the law.
22 (Ro 11:32) But the Scripture has confined all things under sin,
that the promise through faith in Jesus Christ
(Or through the faith of Jesus Christ.) might be given to those who believe.
23 But before faith came, we were imprisoned under the law,
kept for the faith which was later to be revealed. 
24 (Gal 2:16; Ro 10:4) So the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ,
that we might be justified by faith.
25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

[21] Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there
had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness
should have been by the law.
[22] But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by
faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
[23] But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the
faith which should afterwards be revealed. 
[24] Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we
might be justified by faith.
[25] But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

Exodus 24:12-18

12 (Ex 31:18; 32:15-16) The Lord said to Moses, 
"Come up to Me to the mountain and stay there, 
and I will give you the stone tablets with law
 and the commandments which I have written,
 so that you may teach them."
13 (Ex 33:11; 3:1) Moses rose up with Joshua his attendant, 
and Moses went up to the mountain of God. 
14 (Ex 17:10; 17:12) He said to the elders,
 "Wait for us in this place until we return to you. 
Aaron and Hur are with you.
 Whoever has any matters of dispute let him come to them."
15 (Ex 19:9; 19:16) Moses went up to the mountain, 
and the cloud covered the mountain. 
16 (Ex 16:10; Nu 14:10) The glory of the Lord rested on Mount Sinai,
 and the cloud covered it for six days. 
And on the seventh day He called to Moses from the midst of the cloud. 
17 (Ex 3:2; Heb 12:29) Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord
 was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain to the eyes 
of the children of Israel. 
18 (Ex 34:28; Dt 9:9) Moses went into the midst of the cloud 
and went up to the mountain. 
And Moses was on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.

[12] And the LORD said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be
there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments
which I have written; that thou mayest teach them.
[13] And Moses rose up, and his minister Joshua: and Moses went up into the
mount of God.
[14] And he said unto the elders, Tarry ye here for us, until we come again
unto you: and, behold, Aaron and Hur are with you: if any man have any
matters to do, let him come unto them.
[15] And Moses went up into the mount, and a cloud covered the mount.
[16] And the glory of the LORD abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered
it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of
the cloud.
[17] And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like devouring fire on the
top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.
[18] And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the
mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.

according to the counsel of His own will,

The Parable of the Two Sons

28 (Mt 17:25; 20:1) "What do you think? A man had two sons.
He came to the first and said, 'Son, go work today in my vineyard.'
29 "He answered, 'I will not,' but afterward he repented and went.
30 "Then he came to the second, and said likewise.
He answered, 'I will go, sir,' but did not go.
31 (Lk 7:29; 7:37-50) "Which of the two did the will of his father?"
They said, "The first."
Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, the tax collectors and prostitutes
enter the kingdom of God before you.
32 (Mt 11:18; 21:25) For John came to you in the way of righteousness,
and you did not believe him. But the tax collectors
and prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it,
you did not afterward repent and believe him.

[28] Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for
they all had her.
[29] Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the
scriptures, nor the power of God.
[30] For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage,
but are as the angels of God in heaven.
[31] But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that

[32] I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. 

Mark 12:1-12

The Parable of the Vineyard and the Vinedressers
Mt 21:33-46; Lk 20:9-10

1 (SS 8:11-12; Isa 5:1-4) He began to speak to them in parables.
"A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a pit
for the winepress, and built a tower, and rented it to vinedressers,
and went to a far country.
2 At harvest time he sent a servant to the vinedressers
to receive from them some of the fruit of the vineyard.
3 (2Ch 36:16; Ne 9:26) But they seized him and beat him
and sent him away empty-handed.
4 Then he sent another servant to them. They threw stones at him,
and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.
5 Still he sent another, and they killed him. And there were many others.
Some they beat, and some they killed.
6 (Mt 3:17; Heb 1:1-2) "Having yet his one well-beloved son,
he sent him last to them, saying, 'They will revere my son.'
7 "But those vinedressers said among themselves, 'This is the heir.
Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'
8 So they took him and killed him and threw him out of the vineyard.
9 (Mt 21:43; Lk 19:27) "What then will the owner of the vineyard do?
He will come and kill the vinedressers and give the vineyard to others.
10 (Ps 118:22-23; Mt 21:16) Have you not read this Scripture:
'The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
11 This was the Lord's doing,
and it is marvelous in our eyes'?"
12 (Mk 11:18; Mt 22:22) Then they tried to seize Him, but feared the people,
for they knew that He had spoken the parable against them.
So they left Him and went their way. 

[1] And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a
vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat,
and
built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.
[2] And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might
receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.
[3] And they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.
[4] And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast
stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.
[5] And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others;
beating
some, and killing some.
[6] Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last
unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.
[7] But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let
us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.
[8] And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.
[9] What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and
destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.
[10] And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders
rejected is become the head of the corner:
[11] This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
[12] And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they
knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and
went their way. 

Matthew 21:33-46

The Parable of the Vineyard and the Vinedressers

33 (Mt 25:14-15; SS 8:11-12) "Listen to another parable:
There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard
and built a wall around it. He dug a winepress in it and built a tower.
Then he rented it to vinedressers and went into a distant country.
34 When the season of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants
to the vinedressers to receive his fruit.
35 (Heb 11:36-37; 2Ch 36:15-16) "The vinedressers took his servants
and beat one, killed another, and stoned another.
36 (Mt 22:4) Again, he sent other servants, more than the first.
And they did likewise to them.
37 Last of all, he sent his son to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.'
38 "But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said to themselves,
'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.'
39 (Ac 2:23) So they caught him, threw him out of the vineyard,
and killed him.
40 "Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes,
what will he do to those vinedressers?"
41 (Ac 18:6; Mt 21:43) They said, "He will severely destroy those wicked
men and rent his vineyard to other vinedressers
who will give him the fruits in their seasons."
42 (Ac 4:11; Ps 118:22-23; Isa 28:16) Jesus said to them,
Have you never read in the Scriptures:
'The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
This is the Lord's doing,
and it is marvelous in our eyes' (Ps 118:22-23.)?
43 "Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken
from you and given to a nation bearing its fruits.
44 (Isa 8:14-15; Da 2:34-35)Whoever falls on this stone
will be broken to pieces. But on whomever it falls, it will crush him."
45 When the chief priests and Pharisees heard His parables,
they perceived that He was speaking of them.
46 (Mt 21:11; 21:26) But as they tried to arrest Him, they feared t
he crowds, because they held Him as a prophet. 

[33] And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his
doctrine.
[34] But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to
silence, they were gathered together.
[35] Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting
him, and saying,
[36] Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
[37] Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy
heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
[38] This is the first and great commandment.
[39] And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as
thyself.
[40] On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
[41] While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
[42] Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him,
The Son of David.
[43] He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord,
saying,
[44] The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make
thine enemies thy footstool?
[45] If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
[46] And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from
that day forth ask him any more questions.

Luke 20:9-19

The Parable of the Vineyard and the Vinedressers

9 (Mt 21:33-46; Mk 12:1-12) He began to tell the people this parable:
"A man planted a vineyard, and leased it to vinedressers, and went to
a distant country for a long time.
10 (2Ch 36:15-16; Ne 9:26) At harvest time he sent a servant
to the vinedressers so they might give him some fruit of the vineyard.
But the vinedressers beat him and sent him away empty-handed.
11 Again, he sent another servant. But they beat him also, and treated
him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.
12 Once again, he sent a third. And they wounded him also and drove himout.
13 (Mt 3:17) "Then the owner of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do?
I will send my beloved son. Perhaps they will respect him when they see him.'
14 (Ro 8:17; Heb 1:2) "But when the vinedressers saw him, they debated
among themselves, saying, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him,
that the inheritance may be ours.'
15 (Heb 13:12) So they drove him out of the vineyard and killed him.
"What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
16 (Lk 19:27; Mt 21:41) He will come and kill these vinedressers
and will give the vineyard to others."
When they heard this, they said, "May it not be so!"
17 (Ps 118:22; Ac 4:11) He looked at them and said,
What then is this that is written:
‘The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone'(Ps 118:22.)?
18 (Isa 8:14-15; Da 2:34-35) Whoever falls on that stone will be broken.
But he on whom it falls will be crushed to powder." (Isa 8:14-15).
19 (Lk 19:47-48) The chief priests and the scribes tried to lay their
hands on Him that same hour, but they feared the people.
For they perceived that He had told this parable against them.

shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?

to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
[17] And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The
stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the
corner?
[18] Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever
it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

The Parable of the Wedding Banquet
Lk 14:15-24

1 Jesus spoke to them again by parables, saying,
2 (Mt 13:24) "The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king
who arranged a marriage for his son,
3 and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding,
but they would not come.
4 (Mt 21:36) "Again, he sent out other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are
invited: See, I have prepared my supper. My oxen and fattened calves are
killed, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.'
5 (Heb 2:3) "But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his farm,
another to his business;
6 the rest took his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them.
7 (Lk 19:27) When the king heard about it, he was angry. He sent in his army
and destroyed those murderers and burned up their city.
8 (Lk 20:35; Ac 13:46) "Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready,
but those who were invited were not worthy.
9 Go therefore to the streets, and invite to the wedding banquet
as many as you find.'
10 (Mt 13:47-48) So those servants went out into the streets and gathered
together as many as they found, both bad and good.
So the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 (2Ki 10:22; Zec 3:3-4)"But when the king came in to see the guests,
he saw a man who was not wearing wedding garments.
12 (Mt 20:13; 26:50) He said to him, 'Friend, how did you get in here
without wedding garments?' And he was speechless.
13 (Mt 8:12; 25:30; 13:42) "Then the king told the attendants, 'Bind him hand
and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, where there will
be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
14 (Rev 17:14) "For many are called, but few are chosen."

armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
[8] Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were
bidden were not worthy.
[9] Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to
the marriage.
[10] So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all
as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with
guests.
[11] And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which
had not on a wedding garment:
[12] And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a
wedding garment? And he was speechless.
[13] Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take
him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and
gnashing of teeth.
[14] For many are called, but few are chosen.

The Question of Paying Taxes

13 (Mk 3:6; Lk 11:54) They sent to Him some of the Pharisees
and some of the Herodians to trap Him in His words.
14 When they came to Him, they said, "Teacher, we know that You are true
and swayed by no man. For You do not regard the person of men,
but truthfully teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar,
or not?
15 Should we pay, or should we not pay?"
But He, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, "Why test Me? Bring Me
a denarius that I may see it."
16 They brought it, and He said to them,
"Whose image and inscription is this?"
They said to Him, "Caesar's."
17 (Ro 13:7) Then Jesus answered them, "Render to Caesar the things
that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
And they were amazed at Him. 

[13] And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians,
to catch him in his words.
[14] And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou
art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men,
but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to
Caesar, or not?
[15] Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy,

"Born again? What does that mean?" asked the funeral director. "I've never 
heard of that term before." Grasping the opportunity, the son of the deceased 
father explained what it meant through the words of John chapter 3.

"It comes down to the fact that we are all born once into this world," he 
said. "God doesn't have a magic scale where He weighs our good deeds against 
the bad. God requires us to be born of the Spirit," he continued. "That's why 
Jesus died on the cross-He paid for our sins and made it possible for us to 
possess eternal life with Him. We can't make it on our own."

In John 3, Nicodemus began to doubt if he truly had it all figured out. A 
trained teacher in the Scriptures (v. 1), he recognised that Jesus was 
different and that His teaching had authority (v. 2). He wanted to find out 
for himself, so he approached Christ one night to get the matter settled. 
Nicodemus must have accepted Jesus' statement "You must be born again" (v. 7) 
and believed, because he helped prepare the Saviour's body for burial 
after He was crucified (19:39).

The funeral director agreed to go home and read the third chapter of John's 
gospel. Like the son who talked with the director, let's take Jesus' words 
to heart and share them with others as He helps us.

Week 3 - Saved Now and Forever - Day 1 - Bought Back

Eph 1:7

7 (Ro 3:24; Ac 2:38; 20:28) In Him we have redemption through His blood
and the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace

[7] In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins,
according to the riches of his grace;

In the opening scenes of The Glenn Miller Story, Glenn Miller, then a
struggling musician trying to find an audience for his music, enters
a pawn shop. He has hocked his trombone for rent money, and has come
to redeem it. Paying the pawn broker the money, he buys back his own
instrument and leaves the shop, indicating that he will probably
be back again.
In Eph 1:7. Paul says that in Christ "we have redemption through
His blood and the forgiveness of sin according to the riches of His grace."
We belonged to God from the beginning; he made us and stamped
his image upon us. But through sin we were lost, pawned to the
world's system and the Enemy of our souls.
But God redeemed us; he "bought us back" with the most valuable
currency in the universe - the blood of his own Son, Jesus Christ.
He did not resent the bargain, or question whether we were worth
such a price. He freely gave Jesus in trade to ransom the souls
of the people he created and loved.
Sometimes in Christian circles we get so caught up in religious
jargon that we forget what redemption really means. Gog did not have
to "get us out of hock." He was not compelled to buy us back when we
had sold ourselves to sin. But because of his love, and with no
deserving on our part, he chose to pay an enormous price to set us free.
We are redeemed, bought back, by the One who owned us in the first place.

Application

Charlottetown does not currently (fall 2014) have a local CNMM network.
Pray with us for God's people to come together in reaching Muslims
cooperatively across denominational and organisational lines.

More than 200 attended the Eid festival at the end of Ramadan, the Islamic
month of fasting during daylight hours and the reading of the Qur'an, at
the Dar as-Salam mosque in 2014. This second mosque established
in Charlottetown, the other being the Muslims Association of PEI.
As of mid-2014,there are between 250 to 300 families, mostly in Charlottetown.

The Muslims of Charlottetown see their community as symbolically important
for this nation since this is known as the "birthplace of Canada". Yet we were
established as the "Dominion of Canada" with an appeal not only to
monarchial authority, but even more to God's higher Biblical authority as
shown in Psalm 72:8, "May he have dominion from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth."
Let us intercede together for:

- the growing Muslim population of Charlottetown and spreading
outward through PEI to encounter the Prince of Peace.
- believers to have faith and vision to reach out to the Muslim Community
in contextual ways to share the Gospel
- churches and ministries to rise up in wisdom, knowledge and understanding,
giving and training, coaching and encouragement to believers reaching
out to Muslims locally.
- a prayer movement to be established, feeding a growing move of Yahweh's
Spirit in His churches and people , and an awakening an openness
and spiritual hunger in Muslims for relationship with the Father
through the Son.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

Peter's Speech at Pentecost

14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice
and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,
let this be known to you, and listen to my words.

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people - 
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims 
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days! 

Pray that God's Spirit will melt the pride that causes many to
hold to wrong opinions of Christ and His Salvation.

Pray that the Lord will awaken a desire in the hearts of those who
are lost to seek Him and to seek The Truth. 

Pray that Christian literature will no longer be termed "extremist" by 
officials in Tajikistan, and that Tajiks will discover Biblical truth.

Pray to the Lord that to know the Holy Spirit.
and Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness.

Pray for the direction you take to the Ever lasting loving God.
