EXODUS 7
1 So the Lord said to Moses, "See, I have made you a god to Pharaoh,
 and Aaron your brother will be your prophet.
2 (Ex 4:15; 6:29) You shall speak all that I command you,
 and Aaron your brother shall tell Pharaoh 
to send the children of Israel out of his land. 
3 (Ex 4:21; 11:9) But I will harden Pharaoh's heart and multiply My signs 
and My wonders in the land of Egypt. 4 (Ex 6:6; 11:9) Nevertheless, 
Pharaoh will not listen to you, so that I may lay My hand upon Egypt 
and bring forth My armies and My people, the children of Israel, 
out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. 
5 (Ex 7:17; 8:22) And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord 
when I stretch forth My hand upon Egypt and bring out 
the children of Israel from among them."
6 (Ex 7:2; Ge 6:22) So Moses and Aaron did it. Just as the Lord commanded 
them, so they did. 7 (Dt 31:2; 34:7) Moses was eighty years old, 
and Aaron was eighty-three years old when they spoke to Pharaoh.

Aaron's Rod Becomes a Snake

8 Now the Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 
9 (Isa 7:11; Jn 2:18) "When Pharaoh shall speak to you, saying,
'Show a miracle,' 
then you shall say to Aaron, 'Take your rod, and throw it before Pharaoh,' 
and it shall become a serpent."
10 (Ex 4:3) So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh, 
and they did what the Lord had commanded. 
And Aaron threw down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants,
and it became a serpent. 
11 (Ex 7:22; Ge 41:8; Ex 8:7) Then Pharaoh also called the wise men 
and the sorcerers. Then the magicians of Egypt likewise performed 
with their secret arts. 12 For every man threw down his rod, 
and they became serpents. But Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods. 
13 (Ex 4:21; 8:15) Nonetheless, Pharaoh's heart hardened so that 
he would not listen to them, just as the Lord had said.

[1] And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh:
and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.
[2] Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall
speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.

[4] But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon
Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel,
out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.
[5] And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth
mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.
[6] And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they.
[7] And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years
old, when they spake unto Pharaoh.
[8] And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
[9] When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then
thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it
shall become a serpent.
[10] And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD
had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his
servants, and it became a serpent.
[11] Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the
magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.
[12] For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but
Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods.
[13] And he hardened Pharaoh's heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as
the LORD had said. 

The First Plague: Waters Turn to Blood

14 (Ex 8:15; 10:1_ The Lord said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is hardened. 
He refuses to let the people go. 
15 (Ex 8:20; 2:5) Go to Pharaoh 
in the morning as he goes out to the water, and you shall stand
 by the river's bank to meet him. You must take the rod which 
was turned to a serpent in your hand. 
16 (Ex 3:18; 9:1; 3:12) Then you are to say to him, 
'The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to you, saying, 
"Let My people go, so that they may serve Me in the wilderness." 
But up to this point you have not listened! 
17 (Ex 4:9; 5:2) Thus says the Lord, "In this you shall know that 
I am the Lord: Indeed, I will strike the waters of the Nile with the rod
 that is in my hand, and they shall be turned to blood. 
18 (Ex 7:24; 7:21) And the fish that are in the river shall die, 
and the river shall stink so that the Egyptians shall be weary of
 drinking the river's water."'"
19 (Ex 8:5-6; 8:16) Then the Lord spoke to Moses, 
"Say to Aaron, 'Take your rod, and stretch out your hand over
 the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their canals, over their ponds,
 and over all their pools of water, so that they may become blood. 
And there will be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, 
both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.' "
20 (Ps 78:44; 105:29) Moses and Aaron did so, just as the Lord 
commanded. And he lifted up the rod and struck the waters 
that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh,
 and in the sight of his servants, and all the waters that were in the river 
were turned to blood. 
21 (Ex 7:18) The fish that were in the river died, 
the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water ofthe river. 
Blood was everywhere throughout the land of Egypt.
22 (Ex 7:11) Nevertheless, the magicians of Egypt did the same with
their secret arts, and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he did not listen 
to them, as the Lord had said. 
23 Then Pharaoh turned and went into his house, 
and he did not concern himself with this either. 
24  So all the Egyptians dug
 around about the river for water to drink, because they could not drink 
of the water of the river.
25 Seven days passed after the Lord had struck the river.

[14] And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh's heart is hardened, he refuseth
to let the people go.
[15] Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water;
and thou shalt stand by the river's brink against he come; and the rod which
was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand.
[16] And thou shalt say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath sent me
unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the
wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear.
[17] Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD:
behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which
are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.
[18] And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink;
and the Egyptians shall lothe to drink of the water of the river.
[19] And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and
stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon
their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that
they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land
of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.
[20] And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the
rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh,
and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river
were turned to blood.
[21] And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the
Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood
throughout all the land of Egypt.
[22] And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: and
Pharaoh's heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as the LORD
had said.
[23] And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he set his
heart to this also.
[24] And all the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink;
for they could not drink of the water of the river.
[25] And seven days were fulfilled, after that the LORD had smitten the
river. 

EXODUS 8

The Second Plague: Frogs

1 (Ex 3:18; 3:12) Then the Lord said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and say to him, 
'Thus says the Lord: Let My people go, so that they may serve Me. 
2 (Ex 7:14; 9:2) But if you refuse to let them go,
 then I will plague all your borders with frogs. 
3 And the river will swarm with frogs, which shall go up 
and come into your house, and into your bedchamber, 
and on your bed, and into the houses of your servants, 
and on your people, and into your ovens, and into your kneading troughs.
4 So the frogs shall come upon you, upon your people, and upon all 
your servants.' "
5 (Ex 7:19) Then the Lord said to Moses, "Say to Aaron, 'Stretch forth 
your hand with your rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds,
and cause frogs to come up on the land of Egypt.' "
6 (Ps 78:45; 105:30) Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt,
and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt. 
7 (Ex 7:11; 7:22) The ­magicians did the same with their secret arts 
and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt.
8 (Ex 9:28; 10:17) Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, 
and said, "Entreat the Lord, that He may take away the frogs from me,
 and from my people, and I will let the people go, 
so that they may sacrifice to the Lord."
9 Moses said to Pharaoh, "Glory yourself over me: When shall 
I entreat for you, your servants, and your people, 
to destroy the frogs from you and your houses, 
that they may remain in the river only?"
10 (Ex 9:14; Dt 33:26) And he said, "Tomorrow."
Then he said, "Be it according to your word, in order that 
you may know that there is no one like the Lord our God. 
11 The frogs shall depart from you, and from your houses, 
from your servants, and from your people. 
They shall remain in the river only."
12 (Ex 8:30; 9:33) Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, 
and Moses cried out to the Lord concerning the frogs 
which he had brought against Pharaoh. 
13 Then the Lord did according to the word of Moses. 
And the frogs died out of the houses, the villages, and the fields. 
14 So they gathered them together in heaps, and the land stank. 
15 (Ex 7:4; Ecc 8:11) But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, 
he hardened his heart and did not listen to them, 
as the Lord had said.


[1] And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him,
Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
[2] And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy 
borders with frogs:
[3] And the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall 
go up and come into thine house, and into thy bedchamber, and upon 
thy bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, 
and into thine ovens, and into thy kneadingtroughs:
[4] And the frogs shall come up both on thee, and upon thy people, 
and upon all thy servants.
[5] And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch forth
thine hand with thy rod over the streams, over the rivers, and 
over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.
[6] And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the
frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt.
[7] And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and brought up 
frogs upon the land of Egypt.
[8] Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Intreat the LORD,
that he may take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will 
let the people go, that they may do sacrifice unto the LORD.
[9] And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I intreat for
thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs 
from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only?
[10] And he said, To morrow. And he said, Be it according to thy word: 
that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the LORD our God.
[11] And the frogs shall depart from thee, and from thy houses, and from thy
servants, and from thy people; they shall remain in the river only.
[12] And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh: and Moses cried unto the
LORD because of the frogs which he had brought against Pharaoh.
[13] And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and the frogs died out
of the houses, out of the villages, and out of the fields.
[14] And they gathered them together upon heaps: and the land stank.
[15] But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and
hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.

The Third Plague: Gnats

16 Then the Lord said to Moses, "Say to Aaron, 'Stretch out your rod, 
and strike the dust of the land, so that it may become gnats throughout 
all the land of Egypt.' " 
17 (Ps 105:31) They did so, for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod 
and smote the dust of the earth, and it became gnats on man and on beast.
 All the dust of the land became gnats throughout all the land of Egypt. 
18 (Ex 7:11; 9:11) Then the magicians tried with their secret arts 
to bring forth gnats, but they could not, so there were gnats 
upon man and beast.
19 (Ps 8:3; Lk 11:20) Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, 
"This is the finger of God." Nevertheless, Pharaoh's heart was hardened, 
and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had said.


[16] And the LORD said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and
smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land
of Egypt.
[17] And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and
smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all
the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
[18] And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice,
but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast.
[19] Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and
Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD
had said.

The Fourth Plague: Flies

20 (Ex 7:15; 8:1; 9:13) So the Lord said to Moses, "Rise up early 
in the morning and stand before Pharaoh as he comes forth to 
the water and say to him, 'Thus says the Lord: Let My people go, 
so that they may serve Me. 
21 Otherwise, if you will not let My people go, 
indeed I will send swarms of flies on you, and on your servants, 
and on your people, and into your houses. 
And the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies 
and also the ground wherever they are.
22 (Ex 9:4; 9:6)" 'I will in that day set apart the land of Goshen, 
in which My people dwell, so that no swarms of flies shall be there, 
in order that you may know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth. 
23 I will put a division between My people and your people. 
Tomorrow this sign will happen.' "
24 (Ps 78:45; 105:31) The Lord did so, and great swarms of flies
 came into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants' houses, 
and into all the land of Egypt. 
The land was corrupted because of the swarms of flies.
25 (Ex 8:8; 9:27) Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, 
"Go, sacrifice to your God in the land."
26 (Ge 43:32; 46:34) Moses said, "It is not right to do so, for what we shall 
sacrifice to the Lord our God would be an abomination to the Egyptians.
 If we shall sacrifice what is an abomination of the Egyptians 
before their eyes, will they not stone us? 
27 (Ex 3:18; 3:12) We will go three days' journey into the wilderness, 
and then we will sacrifice to the Lord our God, as He shall command us."
28 (Ex 8:8; 9:28; 1Ki 13:6)Pharaoh said, "I will let you go, 
that you may sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness. 
Only you shall not go very far away. Make entreaty for me."
29 (Ex 8:15; 8:8) Moses said, "Indeed, I am leaving you, 
and I will plead with the Lord that the swarms of flies may
 depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people
 tomorrow. But let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more by not 
letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord."
30 (Ex 8:12) Moses went away from Pharaoh and entreated the Lord. 
31 Then the Lord did according to the word of Moses, and He removed the swarms
of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants,
and from his people. Not one remained. 
32 (Ex 8:15; 4:21) Nevertheless, Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also,
nor would he let the people go.

[20] And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand
before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him, Thus
saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
[21] Else, if thou wilt not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms of
flies upon thee, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thy
houses: and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies,
and also the ground whereon they are.
[22] And I will sever in that day the land of Goshen, in which my people
dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end thou mayest know
that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth.
[23] And I will put a division between my people and thy people: to morrow
shall this sign be.
[24] And the LORD did so; and there came a grievous swarm of flies into the
house of Pharaoh, and into his servants' houses, and into all the land of
Egypt: the land was corrupted by reason of the swarm of flies.
[25] And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, Go ye, sacrifice
to your God in the land.
[26] And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the
abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the
abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us?
[27] We will go three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to
the LORD our God, as he shall command us.
[28] And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD
your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: intreat for
me.
[29] And Moses said, Behold, I go out from thee, and I will intreat the LORD
that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and
from his people, to morrow: but let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in
not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD.
[30] And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD.
[31] And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and he removed the
swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; there
remained not one.
[32] And Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also, neither would he let
the people go. 

EXODUS 9

The Fifth Plague: Livestock Die

1 (Ex 8:1) Then the Lord said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh, and speak to him, 
'Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews: Let My people go, 
so that they may serve Me. 
2 (Ex 8:2) For if you refuse to let them go 
and continue holding them, 
3 (Ex 7:4; Ac 13:11) indeed, the hand of the Lord 
will be upon your livestock which are in the field, upon the horses, 
upon the donkeys, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep. 
There shall be a very grievous pestilence. 
4 (Ex 8:22) The Lord shall separate
between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt,
and nothing shall die of all that belongs to the children of Israel.' "
5 So the Lord appointed a set time, saying, 
"Tomorrow the Lord shall do this thing in the land." 
6 (Ps 78:48; Ex 9:25) Then the Lord did this thing the next day, 
so that all the livestock of Egypt died, but not one of the livestock 
of the children of Israel died. 
7 (Ex 7:14; 8:32) Pharaoh sent, 
and there was not one of the livestock of the children of Israel 
dead. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, 
so that he did not let the people go.

[1] Then the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus
saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
[2] For if thou refuse to let them go, and wilt hold them still,
[3] Behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle which is in the field,
upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon
the sheep: there shall be a very grievous murrain.
[4] And the LORD shall sever between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of
Egypt: and there shall nothing die of all that is the children's of Israel.
[5] And the LORD appointed a set time, saying, To morrow the LORD shall do
this thing in the land.
[6] And the LORD did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt
died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.
[7] And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not one of the cattle of the
Israelites dead. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let
the people go.

The Sixth Plague: Boils

8 Then the Lord said to Moses and to Aaron, "Take for yourselves handfuls
of ashes from a kiln, and let Moses toss it toward the heavens
in the sight of Pharaoh. 
9 (Dt 28:27; Rev 16:2) It shall become 
fine dust over all the land of Egypt and shall be a boil breaking 
forth with blisters upon man and beast, throughout all the land of Egypt."
10 So they took the ashes from a kiln and stood before Pharaoh. 
Then Moses tossed it up toward the heavens, and it became a boil breaking
forth with blisters upon man and beast.
11 The magicians could not stand before 
Moses because of the boils, for the boils were upon the magicians 
and upon all the Egyptians. 
12 (Ex 4:21) Moreover, the Lord hardened 
the heart of Pharaoh, so that he did not listen to them, 
just as the Lord had spoken to Moses.

[8] And the LORD said unto Moses and unto Aaron, Take to you handfuls of
ashes of the furnace, and let Moses sprinkle it toward the heaven in the
sight of Pharaoh.
[9] And it shall become small dust in all the land of Egypt, and shall be a
boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast, throughout all the
land of Egypt.
[10] And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses
sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with
blains upon man, and upon beast.
[11] And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils;
for the boil was upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.
[12] And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not unto
them; as the LORD had spoken unto Moses.

The Seventh Plague: Hail

13 (Ex 8:20; 7:15) Then the Lord said to Moses, "Rise up early in the morning, 
and stand before Pharaoh, and say to him, 'Thus says the Lord, 
the God of the Hebrews: Let My people go, so that they may serve Me. 
14 (Ex 8:10) For I will at this time send all My plagues upon you 
and your servants and your people, so that you may know 
that there is none like Me in all the earth. 
15 (Ex 3:20) For by now
 I could have stretched out My hand, so that I might strike you 
and your people with pestilence, and you would be cut off from the earth. 
16 (Ro 9:17; Pr 16:4; Ps 83:17-18) But, indeed, for this cause I have raised 
you up, in order to show in you My power and so that My name may be
 declared throughout all the earth. 
17 Still, you exalt yourself against My people by forbidding them to go. 
18 Certainly, tomorrow about this time 
I will cause it to rain a very severe hail, such as has not happened in Egypt
 since it was founded until now. 
19 Send therefore now 
and bring your livestock and all that you have in the field to safety. 
Every man and beast which shall be found in the field 
and not brought home when the hail comes down upon them will die.' "
20 He that feared the word of the Lord among the servants of Pharaoh
 made his servants and his livestock flee into the houses. 
21 But he that failed to regard the word of the Lord left his servants
 and his livestock in the field.
22 (Rev 16:21) So the Lord said to Moses, "Stretch forth your hand 
toward the heavens, so that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, 
upon man and beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout
 the land of Egypt." 
23 (Jos 10:11; Ps 18:13) Moses stretched forth 
his rod toward the heavens, and the Lord sent thunder and hail, 
and fire ran along upon the ground. So the Lord rained hail upon 
the land of Egypt. 
24 So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail.
 It was so severe that there had been none like it in all the land of Egypt 
since it became a nation. 
25 The hail struck all the land of Egypt, 
all that was in the field, both man and beast, 
and the hail struck every herb of the field and broke every tree of the field. 
26 (Ex 9:4; 11:7) Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel 
were, was there no hail.
27 (Ex 10:16; 2Ch 12:6) Then Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron, 
and said to them, "I have sinned this time. The Lord is righteous, 
and I and my people are wicked. 
28 (Ex 8:8; 10:17) Entreat the Lord,
 for there has been enough of God's mighty thunder and hail, 
and I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer."
29 (1Ki 8:22; 8:38) Moses said to him, "As soon as I am gone out of the city, 
I will spread out my hands to the Lord. The thunder shall cease, 
and there shall no longer be any more hail, 
so that you may know that the earth is the Lord's. 
30 (Isa 26:10) But as for you and your servants,
 I know that you will not yet fear the Lord God."
31 (Ru 1:22; 2:23) Now the flax and the barley were struck, 
for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was in bud. 
32 But the wheat and the spelt were not struck, for they grow up later.
33 (Ex 9:29; 8:12) So Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh 
and spread out his hands to the Lord, and the thunders and hail ceased,
 and the rain was no longer poured upon the earth. 
34 (Ex 7:14) However, when Pharaoh saw that the rain a
nd the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, 
and hardened his heart, he and his servants. 
35 (Ex 4:21) The heart of Pharaoh hardened,

Love One Another

Confidence Before God

then we have confidence before God.

Today's Insights
John begins 1 John in a similar way to the opening of his gospel account. In 
both cases, he goes back to the beginning to affirm Jesus' identity as God the
Son (John 1:1-5; 1 John 1:1-3). In John's gospel, he does so by showing the 
Son's equality with the Father and His primary role in creation: "He was with 
God in the beginning" and "through him all things were made" (John 1:2-3). 
In 1 John, the author repeats the idea of Christ's presence "from the 
beginning" (1:1) yet affirms that He came and lived among us (v. 2).

Today's Devotional
Kim settled in by the window, bag packed, waiting eagerly for her daddy to 
arrive. But as the bright day darkened and then turned to night, her 
enthusiasm faded. She realised Daddy wasn't coming-again.

Kim's parents were divorced, and she longed to spend time with her father. Not
for the first time she thought, I must not really matter. He must not love me.

As Kim later learned-and as all of us who receive Jesus as our Savior come to 
know-though our earthly parents and others will disappoint us, we have 
a heavenly Father who loves us and won't let us down.

John-the author of three inspired biblical letters, the gospel bearing his 
name, and the book of Revelation-understood the depth of God's love. In fact, 
he referred to himself as "the disciple whom Jesus loved" (John 21:20), 
identifying himself as someone whose life had been changed by Christ's love 
for him. "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be
called children of God! And that is what we are!" he wrote (1 John 3:1).

God loves us so much that He gave His Son Jesus, who laid down His life for us
(v. 16; John 3:16). He’s always available to us in prayer, and He promises, 
"Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5). We can rest
secure in His love.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the great 
love You lavish on me. I rest in Your promise that You'll never forsake me.

Week 8 Guided by Grace Day 7 - Upheld by His Hand

Is 41:10

10 (Jos 1:9; Isa 41:13-14) Do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you,
yes, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God:
I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee;
yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Beth had the same recurring nightmare: she was running along a cliff,
then she slipped, and fell headlong, into a bottomless ravine.
Falling, without control, without end, falling, falling, falling...
Beth's dream may be one many of us identify with. The sense
of losing control can be nightmarish, and we may fear falling
without end, without remedy. Financial failure may be the chasm
that we face, or professional disgrace. Personal relationships
may go out of control, and we look into a never-ending
ravine of pain and misunderstanding
But God says, "Don't be afraid; I am holding you up."
Like the father who helps his child learn to swim,
God holds us above the water. We may not feel his hands;
indeed, we may suspect that he lets us go just so we can
do it on our own. But he promises that he doesn't let go.
"I am with you." he declares. "I give you strength
and hold you up."
God's promise never to let go takes on new meaning
in a world where relationships are temporary and life is
uncertain. We do not need to fear, for he is with us.
We can relax and stop striving, for he is our God.
His strength becomes ours; amid all our sin and rebellion,
he undergirds us with his righteousness. We cannot fall,
for he holds us firm.

CNMM Networks: Calgary and Edmonton

It is estimated that Calgary has 82000 Muslims and Edmonton another 50000 .
Alberta may have a total as hihg as 195240 today.
Calgary is notable as the first Canadian city with a Muslim mayor.  It's
become a prominent place of Islamic fundamentalism.
Edmonton's Muslim population is very diverse, with the legrest group
coming from Tanzania, followed by Somalia, and then North African countries 
such as Egypt, Morocco, etc.
Muslims are coming to faith in JEsus! They overcome huge spiritual,
emotional and cultural hurdles to follow Christ. Yet their challenges still 
continue, especially in growing in discpleship. They often fell lost in our
Western congreations, and euqally lost trying to find a church body with whom
they can identify. some are even being lured into Christian cult groups.

Please join us in praying for:
- The church to reach out to the growing Muslim populations in Alberta.
- for Canadian churches to start contextualised discipleship ministries to
Muslim-background believers.
- for Muslm-background believers to be well grounded spiritually and socially
  in their faith and the Church.
- and for Muslim-background believers to share their faith with their 
not-yet-believing family and friendship networks.
- for Farsi and Arabic fellowships to grow in spiritual maturity and outreach.
- for current and new workers among Muslims in these growing Muslim
  in these growing Muslim population centres.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid  celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that 
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you 
know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 :  17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; 
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, 
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants 
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. 
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below: 
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.  20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims 
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days! 

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .

DAY SIX:

PRAYER FOR HEALING AND RESCUE

Prodigals often carry deep wounds, whether they realize it or not. The journey
away from God can leave them broken and burdened by shame, guilt, and
rejection. While they may believe they are running toward freedom, they are
actually running further from the healing and rescue only God can provide.
They seek fulfilment in the world but find themselves empty, longing for
something greater.

Prodigals may not always see it, but their journey away from God often
deepens the wounds of shame, guilt, and rejection.

REFLECTION:

How often do we allow wounds to keep us from a relationship with God and
others?

PRAYER:

Lord, bring Your healing where my loved one is wounded. Show me how my
son or daughter was hurt so that I can pray for them. Reveal to me how I may
have hurt my child, friend, or loved one so I can make amends. I pray that
this will lead to forgiveness, restoration, and healing. Give me wisdom and
direction on if, how, and when to talk to my son or daughter about anything I
did or did not do that may have wounded them.

Create in them a desire to know You and be known by You. Give them
dreams about You, visions from You, and encounters with You. Reveal
Yourself to them in ways that will compel them to acknowledge You. When
my loved one seeks fulfilment apart from You, may it cause their heart to feel
empty. Stir a hunger in them for You and Your Kingdom. Draw their hearts to
You in a powerful way and make Yourself known to them so that they can’t
deny Your presence and power. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.

Lord, bring Your healing where my loved one is wounded. Show me how my
son or daughter was hurt so that I can pray for them. Reveal to me how I may
have hurt my child, friend, or loved one so I can make amends. I pray that
this will lead to forgiveness, restoration, and healing. Give me wisdom and
