EXODUS 33

The Command to Leave Sinai

1 (Ge 12:7; Ex 32:13) Then the Lord said to Moses, "Depart, go up from here,
 you and the people whom you have brought up from the land of Egypt, 
to the land which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, 
'To your descendants I will give it.'
2 (Ex 32:34; Jos 24:11) I will send an angel before you, 
and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, the Hittite,
 the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 
3 (Ex 3:8; 32:9-10) Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey.
 However, I will not go up in your midst, for you are a stiff-necked
 people, and I might destroy you on the way."
4 (Nu 14:39; 14:1 )When the people heard this disturbing word, 
they mourned.
 And no one put on his ornaments. 
5 For the Lord had said to Moses, "Say to the children of Israel, 
'You are a stiff-necked people. If I went up among you for one moment,
 I might destroy you. Now therefore, take off your ornaments, 
so that I may know what I will do to you.' "
6 (Ex 33:4) The children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments 
by Mount Horeb.

[1] And the LORD said unto Moses, Depart, and go up hence, thou and the
people which thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land
which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed
will I give it:
[2] And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the
Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and
the Jebusite:
[3] Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the
midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the
way.
[4] And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man
did put on him his ornaments.
[5] For the LORD had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye
are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment,
and consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may
know what to do unto thee.
[6] And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the
mount Horeb.

The Tent of Meeting

7 (Ex 29:42-43; Dt 4:29) Moses took the tent 
and pitched it outside the camp,
 a good distance from the camp,
 and called it the tent of meeting.
 And anyone who sought the Lord would
 go out to the tent of meeting which was outside the camp. 
8 (Nu 16:27) So whenever Moses went out to the tent, 
all the people would rise up and stand, 
every man at the entrance of his tent, 
and gaze after Moses until he entered the tent. 
9 (Ps 99:7; Ex 31:18) And whenever Moses entered the tent, 
the pillar of cloud descended and stood at the entrance of the tent, 
and the Lord spoke with Moses. 
10 When all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance
 of the tent, all the people rose up and worshipped, every man 
at the entrance of his tent. 
11 (Nu 12:8; Dt 34:10) The Lord spoke to Moses face to face,
 just as a man speaks to his friend. When he returned to the camp, 
his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, 
did not depart from the tent.

[7] And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp, afar off
from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came
to pass, that every one which sought the LORD went out unto the tabernacle
of the congregation, which was without the camp.
[8] And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the tabernacle, that all
the people rose up, and stood every man at his tent door, and looked after
Moses, until he was gone into the tabernacle.
[9] And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy
pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the LORD
talked with Moses.
[10] And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tabernacle door:
and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door.
[11] And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his
friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son
of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.

The Glory of God

12 (Ex 33:17; 32:34) Moses said to the Lord, 
"See, You say to me, 'Bring up this people,'
 but You have not let me know whom You will send with me. 
Yet You have said, 'I know you by name, 
and you have also found grace in My sight.' 
13 (Dt 9:29; Ps 25:4) Now therefore, I pray You, 
if I have found favor in Your sight, show me now Your way, 
that I may know You, and that I may find favor in Your sight. 
Consider too that this nation is Your people."
14 (Jos 21:44; 22:4) And He said, "My Presence will go with you,
 and I will give you rest."
15 (Ex 33:3) Then he said to Him, "If Your Presence does not go with us,
 do not bring us up from here. 
16 (Nu 14:14; Ex 19:5-6) For how will it be known that 
I have found favor in Your sight, I and Your people? 
Is it not by Your going with us, so that we will be distinguished,
I and Your people, from all the people who are on the face of the earth?"
17 (Ge 19:21; Ex 33:12) The Lord said to Moses, "I will do this thing of 
which you have spoken, for you have found favor in My sight, 
and I know you by name."
18 (Ex 33:20; 1Ti 6:16) Then Moses said, "I pray, show me Your glory."
19 (Ex 34:5-7; Isa 7:14) Then He said, "I will make all My goodness 
pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you.
I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious
and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy."
20 (Isa 6:5; Ge 32:30; Ex 24:10) He said, "You cannot see My face, 
for no man can see Me and live."
21 Then the Lord said, "Indeed, there is a place by Me. 
You must stand on the rock. 
22 (Ps 91:4; 91:1) While My glory passes by, 
I will put you in a cleft of the rock 
and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. 
23 (Ex 33:20; Jn 1:18) Then I will take away My hand,
 and you will see My back, but My face may not be seen."

[12] And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this
people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou
hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.
[13] Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me
now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and
consider that this nation is thy people.
[14] And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
[15] And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up
hence.
[16] For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found
grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be
separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of
the earth.
[17] And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast
spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.
[18] And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.
[19] And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will
proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I
will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
[20] And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me,
and live.
[21] And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand
upon a rock:
[22] And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put
thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass
by:
[23] And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but
my face shall not be seen.

EXODUS 34

The New Stone Tablets

1 (Ex 32:19; 31:18; 32:16) Now the Lord said to Moses, 
"Cut out for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, 
and I will write on these tablets the words
 that were on the first tablets, which you broke. 
2 (Ex 19:20) Be ready in the morning, 
and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai,
 and present yourself there to Me on the top of the mountain. 
3 (Ex 19:12-13; 19:21) No one is to come up with you.
 Do not let anyone be seen anywhere on the mountain, 
and the flocks or herds may not graze in front of the mountain."
4 So he cut out two tablets of stone like the first, 
and Moses rose up early in the morning and went up to Mount Sinai,
 just as the Lord had commanded him, 
and took in his hand the two tablets of stone. 
5 (Ex 33:19; 33:9) Then the Lord descended in the cloud, 
and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord.
6 (Ro 2:4; Ne 9:17; Ps 86:15) The Lord passed by before him, 
and proclaimed, "The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, 
slow to anger, and abounding in goodness and truth, 
7 (Ex 20:5-6; Job 10:14) keeping mercy for thousands, 
forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, 
but who will by no means clear the guilty, 
visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children
 and on the children's children, 
to the third and the fourth generation."
8 (Ex 4:31) Moses made haste and bowed to the ground and worshipped. 
9 (Ps 33:12; Ex 32:9) He said, "If now I have found favor in Your sight,
1O Lord, let my Lord, I pray, go among us, for we are a stiff-necked people. 
Pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance."

[1] And the LORD said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the
first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first
tables, which thou brakest.
[2] And be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning unto mount
Sinai, and present thyself there to me in the top of the mount.
[3] And no man shall come up with thee, neither let any man be seen
throughout all the mount; neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that
mount.
[4] And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and Moses rose up
early in the morning, and went up unto mount Sinai, as the LORD had
commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone.
[5] And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and
proclaimed the name of the LORD.
[6] And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD
God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and
truth,
[7] Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and
sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of
the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the
third and to the fourth generation.
[8] And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and
worshipped.
[9] And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my
Lord, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon
our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance.

The Covenant Renewed

10 (Dt 5:2-3; 10:21) Then He said: Indeed, I am going to make
 a covenant before all your people. I will do wonders such as 
have not been done in all the earth nor in any nation. 
And all the people among whom you live will see the work
 of the Lord, for it is a fearful thing that I will do with you. 
11 (Ex 33:2) Obey what I command you this day. 
Indeed, I am going to drive out before you the Amorite, the Canaanite,
the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 
12 (Ex 23:32-33; Dt 7:2) Watch yourself so that you make 
no covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, 
lest it become a snare in your midst. 
13 (Ex 23:24; 2Ki 18:4) But you shall destroy their altars, 
break their sacred pillars, and cut down their Asherah poles
Carved images of a female deity. 
14 (Ex 20:3-5; Dt 4:24) for you shall not worship any other god,
 for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God),
15 (Nu 25:2; Jdg 2:17) lest you make a covenant with 
the inhabitants of the land, and they prostitute 
themselves with their gods, and sacrifice to their gods, 
and someone invites you to eat of his sacrifice. 
16 (Dt 7:3-4; 1Ki 11:2-4) And then you take of their
 daughters for your sons, 
and their daughters prostitute themselves after their gods.
 They will make your sons prostitute themselves after their gods.
17 (Ex 32:8; Lev 19:4) You shall make no molded gods for yourselves.
18 (Ex 13:4; Lev 23:6) You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
 For seven days you are to eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, 
in the month of Aviv, for in the month of Aviv you came out of Egypt.
19 (Ex 13:2; 22:29) Every firstborn of the womb belongs to Me,
 and every firstborn male among your livestock, 
whether ox or sheep. 
20 (Ex 23:15; Dt 16:16) But you must redeem with a lamb 
the firstborn of a donkey, and if you fail to redeem him,
then you must break his neck. 
You must redeem all the firstborn of your sons.
No one may appear before Me empty-handed.
21 (Ex 23:12; 35:2) You shall work six days, 
but on the seventh day you must rest. 
Even at the time of plowing and harvest you must rest.
22 (Ex 23:16) You must observe the Feast of Weeks, 
the first fruits of the wheat harvest, 
and the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year. 
23 (Ex 23:14; 23:17) Three times in the year 
all your males must appear before the Lord God, 
the God of Israel. 
24 (Ex 33:2; Ps 78:55) For I will drive out the nations 
before you and enlarge your borders.
 No man will covet your land when you go up 
to appear before the Lord your God three times in the year.
25 (Ex 23:18; 12:10) You must not offer the blood of My sacrifice 
with leaven, nor is the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover
 to be left until the following morning.
26 (Ex 23:19; Dt 14:21; 26:2) The first of the first fruits 
of your land you must bring to the house of the Lord your God.
You must not boil a young goat in its mother's milk.
27 (Ex 17:14; 24:4) Then the Lord said to Moses: 
Write down these words, 
for in accordance with these words 
I have made a covenant with you and with Israel. 
28 (Ex 24:18; 31:18) So he was there with the Lord forty days 
and forty nights. He did not eat bread or drink water. 
And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, 
the Ten Commandments.

[10] And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do
marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and
all the people among which thou art shall see the work of the LORD: for it
is a terrible thing that I will do with thee.
[11] Observe thou that which I command thee this day: behold, I drive out
before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the
Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
[12] Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of
the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee:
[13] But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down
their groves:
[14] For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is
Jealous, is a jealous God:
[15] Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go
a whoring after their gods , and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call
thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice;
[16] And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go
a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods.
[17] Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.
[18] The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep. Seven days thou shalt
eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, in the time of the month Abib:
for in the month Abib thou camest out from Egypt.
[19] All that openeth the matrix is mine; and every firstling among thy
cattle, whether ox or sheep, that is male.
[20] But the firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb: and if thou
redeem him not, then shalt thou break his neck. All the firstborn of thy
sons thou shalt redeem. And none shall appear before me empty.
[21] Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in
earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.
[22] And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat
harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end.
[23] Thrice in the year shall all your men children appear before the Lord
GOD, the God of Israel.
[24] For I will cast out the nations before thee, and enlarge thy borders:
neither shall any man desire thy land, when thou shalt go up to appear
before the LORD thy God thrice in the year.
[25] Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven; neither
shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left unto the morning.
[26] The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the
house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
[27] And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the
tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.
[28] And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did
neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words
of the covenant, the ten commandments.

Moses' Radiant Face

29 (Ex 32:15; Mt 17:2) When Moses came down from Mount Sinai
 with the two tablets of testimony in the hands of Moses, 
when he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that 
the skin of his face shone while he talked with Him. 
30 So when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, 
amazingly, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid 
to come near him. 
31 But Moses called to them, and Aaron 
and all the rulers of the congregation returned to him, 
and Moses spoke to them. 
32 Afterward all the children of Israel drew near, 
and he commanded them all that the Lord had spoken 
to him on Mount Sinai.
33 When Moses finished speaking with them,
 he put a veil over his face. 
34 (2Co 3:16) But whenever Moses went in before the Lord to 
speak with Him, he took the veil off until he came out. 
Then he came out and spoke to the children of Israel
 what he had been commanded. 
35 The children of Israel saw the face of Moses,
that the skin of Moses' face shone, 
and then Moses put the veil over his face again 
until he went in to speak with Him.

[29] And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two
tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that
Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.
[30] And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the
skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.
[31] And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the
congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them.
[32] And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in
commandment all that the LORD had spoken with him in mount Sinai.
[33] And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face.
[34] But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he took the
vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of
Israel that which he was commanded.
[35] And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of
Moses' face shone: and Moses put the vail upon his face again, until he went
in to speak with him.

EXODUS 35

Sabbath Regulations

1 (Ex 34:32 )Moses gathered all the congregation of the children
 of Israel together, and said to them: These are the things 
the Lord has commanded you to do. 
2 (Ex 20:9-10; 34:21) Six days shall work be done, 
but on the seventh day you shall have a holy day,
 a Sabbath of rest to the Lord. 
Whoever does any work on it must be put to death. 
3 (Ex 16:23; 12:16)You must not kindle fire in any 
of your dwellings on the Sabbath day.

[1] And Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel
together, and said unto them, These are the words which the LORD hath
commanded, that ye should do them.
[2] Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to
you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD: whosoever doeth work therein
shall be put to death.
[3] Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath
day.

Offerings for the Tabernacle

Ex 25:1-7; 39:32-41

4 Moses said to all the congregation of the children of Israel:
 This is the thing which the Lord commanded, saying: 
5 (Ex 25:2-7) Take from among you an offering to the Lord. 
Whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it as an offering
 to the Lord: gold, silver, and bronze, 
6 and blue, purple, and scarlet, fine linen, goats' hair, 
7 rams' skins dyed red, and porpoise skins, and acacia wood, 
8 oil for the light, and spices for anointing oil, 
and for the fragrant incense, 
9 onyx stones, and gemstones to be set for the ephod 
and for the breastplate.
10 Every skilled craftsman among you shall come 
and make all that the Lord has commanded: 
11 (Ex 26:1-37) the tabernacle with its tent and its covering,
its hooks and its boards, its bars, its pillars, and its sockets;
12 (Ex 25:10-22) the ark with its poles, the mercy seat, 
and the veil that conceals it; 
13 (Ex 25:23-30; Lev 24:5-6) the table with its poles, 
and all its utensils, and the showbread; 
14 (Ex 25:31-39) the lampstand also for the light 
and its utensils and its lamps, and the oil for the light;
15 (Ex 30:1-10) and the incense altar with its poles, 
and the anointing oil and the fragrant incense, 
and the hanging for the door at the entrance of the tabernacle;
16 (Ex 27:1-8; 30:18-21) the altar of burnt offering 
with its bronze grating, its poles, and all its utensils,
 the basin and its stand; 
17 the hangings of the court, its pillars and their sockets,
 and the curtain for the gate of the court; 
18 (Ex 27:19) the pegs of the tabernacle 
and the pegs of the court and their cords; 
19 (Ex 31:10) the woven garments for serving 
in the holy place, 
the holy garments for Aaron the priest 
and the garments of his sons, 
to minister as priests.
20 Then all the congregation of the children of Israel
 departed from the presence of Moses. 
21 (Ex 25:2; 35:5) Everyone whose heart stirred him 
and everyone whose spirit was willing came 
and brought the Lord's offering for the work of the tent of meeting
and for all its service and for the holy garments. 
22 They came, both men and women, as many as had willing hearts,
 and brought brooches, earrings, rings and bracelets,
 all kinds of gold jewelry, and everyone that offered 
an offering of gold to the Lord. 
23 (1Ch 29:8) Everyone who had blue, purple, and scarlet,
 and fine linen, and goats' hair, and red skins of rams,
 and porpoise skins, brought them. 
24 Everyone who was making a contribution of silver and bronze 
brought the Lord's offering, and everyone who had acacia wood 
for any work of the service brought it. 
25 (Ex 28:3) All the women that were skilled spun with their hands
 and brought what they had spun, both of blue, purple, and scarlet,
 and of fine linen. 
26 (Ex 35:21) All the women whose hearts stirred them to action
 and were skilled spun goats' hair. 
27 (1Ch 29:6; Ezr 2:68) The leaders brought onyx stones 
and gemstones to be set for the ephod and for the breastplate,
28 (Ex 30:23-38) and spice and oil for the light, 
and for the anointing oil, 
and for the fragrant incense. 
29 (Ex 35:4) The children of Israel brought 
a willing offering to the Lord, 
every man and woman whose heart was willing
 to bring material for all the work 
which the Lord had commanded through Moses to be made.

[4] And Moses spake unto all the congregation of the children of Israel,
saying, This is the thing which the LORD commanded, saying,
[5] Take ye from among you an offering unto the LORD: whosoever is of a
willing heart, let him bring it, an offering of the LORD; gold, and silver,
and brass,
[6] And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats' hair,
[7] And rams' skins dyed red, and badgers' skins, and shittim wood,
[8] And oil for the light, and spices for anointing oil, and for the sweet
incense,
[9] And onyx stones, and stones to be set for the ephod, and for the
breastplate.
[10] And every wise hearted among you shall come, and make all that the LORD
hath commanded;
[11] The tabernacle, his tent, and his covering, his taches, and his boards,
his bars, his pillars, and his sockets,
[12] The ark, and the staves thereof, with the mercy seat, and the vail of
the covering,
[13] The table, and his staves, and all his vessels, and the shewbread,
[14] The candlestick also for the light, and his furniture, and his lamps,
with the oil for the light,
[15] And the incense altar, and his staves, and the anointing oil, and the
sweet incense, and the hanging for the door at the entering in of the
tabernacle,
[16] The altar of burnt offering, with his brasen grate, his staves, and all
his vessels, the laver and his foot,
[17] The hangings of the court, his pillars, and their sockets, and the
hanging for the door of the court,
[18] The pins of the tabernacle, and the pins of the court, and their cords,
[19] The cloths of service, to do service in the holy place, the holy
garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in
the priest's office.
[20] And all the congregation of the children of Israel departed from the
presence of Moses.
[21] And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom
his spirit made willing, and they brought the LORD's offering to the work of
the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service, and for the
holy garments.
[22] And they came, both men and women, as many as were willing hearted, and
brought bracelets, and earrings, and rings, and tablets, all jewels of gold:
and every man that offered offered an offering of gold unto the LORD.
[23] And every man, with whom was found blue, and purple, and scarlet, and
fine linen, and goats' hair, and red skins of rams, and badgers' skins,
brought them.
[24] Every one that did offer an offering of silver and brass brought the
LORD's offering: and every man, with whom was found shittim wood for any
work of the service, brought it.
[25] And all the women that were wise hearted did spin with their hands, and
brought that which they had spun, both of blue, and of purple, and of
scarlet, and of fine linen.
[26] And all the women whose heart stirred them up in wisdom spun goats'
hair.
[27] And the rulers brought onyx stones, and stones to be set, for the
ephod, and for the breastplate;
[28] And spice, and oil for the light, and for the anointing oil, and for
the sweet incense.

Psalm 13

Our final song at church included the cheerfully repeated affirmation of God's
faithfulness: "You'll never let me down!" I turned to find my friend on the 
brink of tears. "How can I sing that?" she lamented. It was true. Everything 
in her life was falling apart despite desperate, faithful prayer. She could 
easily have sung, "How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will 
you hide your face from me?" (Psalm 13:1).

Many of the Psalms, including Psalm 13, are full of painful laments: desperate
cries and honest admissions of heartfelt sorrow. In today's Psalm, David 
wrestles through agonising thoughts that sound almost like a loss of faith 
(v. 2)-but, in fact, they are quite the reverse. It takes faith to unburden 
ourselves to the Lord so honestly, and then pray, as David does, asking Him 
for what we need: "Look on me and answer, Lord my God" (v. 3). It is often 
only then, after unburdening our souls and calling on God to help us, that we 
can authentically praise Him from our hearts and rejoice in His goodness 
and love (v. 5-6).

If you are struggling to praise God today, unburden your heart to Him. Be 
honest. Ask Him for the help that only He can give. Remember His "unfailing 
love" (v. 5). And then, faith will rise, and you can sing with David, 
"He has been good to me" (v. 6).

Week 2 - Saved by Grace - Day 2 - Earning Death

Romans 6:23

23 (Ro 5:12; Ge 2:17; Ro 2:7) For the wages of sin is death,

"I only want my rights," declares the belligerent Big Ghost, one of the
characters in C. S. Lewis's classic, The Great Divorce. "I'm not asking
for anybody's bleeding charity."
"Then do. At once," his angelic friend Len urges. "Ask for the Bleeding
Charity. Everything is here for the asking and nothing can be bought."
Often we are much like the Ghost in Lewis's tale of heaven and hell.
We want "What we deserve," and being blind to our own sin, we think
we deserve praise, or al least mercy. But Paul is very clear on what
we have coming: "The wages of sin is death".
We work for our wages - we've earned our paycheque, and we deserve it.
We don't have to thank anyone for paying us - it's our due, not a gift.
Similarly, the paycheque issued to us in renumeration for our sin is
what we deserve: death.
Yet, if we are willing to lay aside our pride and accept God's gift,
we can live. "The gift of God is eternal life." Nothing we can do or say
can make us worthy of the gift of life. We are sinners by nature and we
rebel against God in our choices. Yet God, in Christ, offers grace to us,
freedom from sin, liberty from the burden of trying to earn his favour.
Ironically, freedom and peace in the Christian life come not through
justifying ourselves and making ourselves look good, but through
acknowledging the depth of our sin ad our ability to do anything about it.
When we realise that we are trapped in out sinful selves and only
Christ can free us, then we are ready to journey toward grace and freedom.

CNMM Networks: Calgary and Edmonton

It is estimated that Calgary has 82000 Muslims and Edmonton another 50000 .
Alberta may have a total as high as 195240 today.
Calgary is notable as the first Canadian city with a Muslim mayor.  It's
become a prominent place of Islamic fundamentalism.
Edmonton's Muslim population is very diverse, with the largest group
coming from Tanzania, followed by Somalia, and then North African countries 
such as Egypt, Morocco, etc.
Muslims are coming to faith in Jesus! They overcome huge spiritual,
emotional and cultural hurdles to follow Christ. Yet their challenges still 
continue, especially in growing in discipleship. They often fell lost in our
Western congregations, and equally lost trying to find a church body with whom
they can identify. some are even being lured into Christian cult groups.

Please join us in praying for:
- The church to reach out to the growing Muslim populations in Alberta.
- for Canadian churches to start contextualised discipleship ministries to
Muslim-background believers.
- for Muslm-background believers to be well grounded spiritually and socially
  in their faith and the Church.
- and for Muslim-background believers to share their faith with their 
not-yet-believing family and friendship networks.
- for Farsi and Arabic fellowships to grow in spiritual maturity and outreach.
- for current and new workers among Muslims in these growing Muslim
  in these growing Muslim population centres.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid  celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that 
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you 
know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 :  17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; 
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, 
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants 
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. 
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below: 
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.  20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims 
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days! 

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .

DAY FIFTEEN:

THE PRODIGAL, UNBELIEVING SPOUSE

Marriage can be a challenging journey, especially when your spouse has
wandered from God or has yet to believe. It’s painful to witness the one you
love being distant from the Lord, but take heart: God's love for them is even
greater than your own. In moments of frustration or discouragement,
remember that God is always at work, even when change seems absent. His
timing is perfect, and He desires to draw your spouse into a deeper
relationship with Him.

1 Peter 3:1-2

Wives and Husbands

1 (1Co 7:16; Col 3:18) Likewise you wives, be submissive to your own husbands,
so that if any do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the
conduct of their wives,
2 as they see the purity and reverence of your lives.

[1] Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any
obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation
of the wives;
[2] While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

1 Peter 3:1-2 encourages believing spouses to win over their partners "without
words" by their behaviour. This doesn't mean avoiding the truth, but rather
allowing your actions - through patience, love, and faithfulness - to speak
louder than words. Continue loving your spouse unconditionally, even in the
difficult moments. Trust that God is working through you, planting seeds of
faith in their heart.

REFLECTION:

Am I trusting God to work in my spouse's life, even when I don't see change?
How can I show Christ's love to them today?

Conclusion:

Pray to the Lord and pray to seek His will in your work e His Glory in your
life.

Pray to the Lord: "Author of all that lives, thank You for inspiring
the Bible to be such a life-giving book. May I submit to You 
as I read the Scriptures."

Pray to the Lord and pray to know that the Wages of Sin is death 
and that Christ's sacrifice is the hope for Salvation. 

Pray to the Lord and pray to understand His Covenant.

Pray to the Lord and pray to integrity and uprightness preserve you.

Please join us in praying for:

and that churches are growing despite persecution.

Lord, I lift up my spouse to You, asking that You reveal Yourself to them.
Soften their heart and open their eyes to Your love and truth. Help me trust
in Your timing and continue to love them as You love me. Strengthen me to
be patient, faithful, and full of grace as I wait for Your work in their heart. In
Jesus' name, Amen.
