NUMBERS 8

The Seven Lamps

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 
2 (Ex 25:37) Speak to Aaron and say to him: When you set up the lamps, 
the seven lamps will give light before the lampstand.
3 Aaron did so. He lit the lamps before the lampstand, 
as the Lord commanded Moses. 
4 (Ex 25:9; 25:18) And this was the work of the lampstand: 
hammered gold, to its shaft, to its flowers was beaten work. 
According to the pattern which the Lord had shown Moses, 
so he made the lampstand.

Consecrating the Levites

5 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 
6 Take the Levites from among the children of Israel and cleanse them. 
7 (Lev 8:6; Nu 19:13) Thus you will do to them to cleanse them: Splash 
purifying water on them, and let them shave their whole body, and let 
them wash their clothes, and so make themselves clean. 
8 (Lev 2:1) Then let them take a young bull with its grain offering, 
also fine flour mixed with oil, and you will take another young bull 
as a sin offering. 
9 (Ex 40:12; Lev 8:3) You will bring the Levites 
before the tent of meeting. And you will gather the whole assembly 
of the children of Israel together. 
10 (Lev 1:4; Ac 6:6) And you will bring the Levites before the Lord. 
And the children of Israel will put their hands on the Levites. 
11 (Lev 7:30) And Aaron will offer the Levites before the Lord as a 
wave offering of the children of Israel, that they may do the service 
of the Lord.
12 (Ex 29:10; Lev 1:4) The Levites will lay their hands on the heads 
of the bulls, and you will offer one as a sin offering and the other 
as a burnt offering to the Lord, to make an atonement for the Levites. 
13 (Nu 8:11; 8:21) You will set the Levites before Aaron and before his sons, 
and offer them as a wave offering to the Lord. 
14 (Nu 3:45) Thus will you separate the Levites 
from among the children of Israel, and the Levites will be Mine.
15 (Nu 8:11; 8:13) And afterwards the Levites will go in to do 
the service of the tent of meeting, and you will cleanse them 
and offer them as a wave offering. 
16 (Nu 3:12; 3:45) For they are completely set aside for Me 
by the children of Israel. Instead of all who open the womb, 
instead of the firstborn of all the children of Israel, 
I have taken them for Myself. 
17 (Ex 13:2; Lk 2:23) For all the firstborn of the children of Israel 
are Mine, both man and animal. On the day that I struck every firstborn 
in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for Myself. 
18 I have taken the Levites instead of all the firstborn 
of the children of Israel. 
19 (Nu 1:53; 16:46) I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron 
and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to serve 
the service of the children of Israel in the tent of meeting 
and to make an atonement for the children of Israel, so there 
will be no plague among the children of Israel when the children 
of Israel approach the sanctuary.
20 Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of 
Israel did to the Levites; according to all that the Lord commanded 
Moses concerning the Levites, so the children of Israel did to them. 
21 (Nu 8:7; 8:11-13) The Levites cleansed themselves from sin, 
and they washed their clothes, and Aaron offered them as a wave 
offering before the Lord, and Aaron made an atonement 
for them to cleanse them. 
22 And after that the Levites went in to do their service 
in the tent of meeting before Aaron and before his sons. 
As the Lord had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them.
23 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:  
24 (Nu 4:3; 1Ch 23:3) This is what belongs to the Levites: 
From twenty-five years old and older they will go in to do their 
duty concerning the service of the tent of meeting. 
25 And from the age of fifty years they will cease doing their duty 
concerning its service and will serve no more. 
26 (Nu 1:53) But they will minister with their brothers 
in the tent of meeting, to attend to their needs, but will not do the work. 
Thus you will do to the Levites concerning their duties.

Numbers 8
[1] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
[2] Speak unto Aaron, and say unto him, When thou lightest the lamps, the
seven lamps shall give light over against the candlestick.
[3] And Aaron did so; he lighted the lamps thereof over against the
candlestick, as the LORD commanded Moses.
[4] And this work of the candlestick was of beaten gold, unto the shaft
thereof, unto the flowers thereof, was beaten work: according unto the
pattern which the LORD had shewed Moses, so he made the candlestick.
[5] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
[6] Take the Levites from among the children of Israel, and cleanse them.
[7] And thus shalt thou do unto them, to cleanse them: Sprinkle water of
purifying upon them, and let them shave all their flesh, and let them wash
their clothes, and so make themselves clean.
[8] Then let them take a young bullock with his meat offering, even fine
flour mingled with oil, and another young bullock shalt thou take for a sin
offering.
[9] And thou shalt bring the Levites before the tabernacle of the
congregation: and thou shalt gather the whole assembly of the children of
Israel together:
[10] And thou shalt bring the Levites before the LORD: and the children of
Israel shall put their hands upon the Levites:
[11] And Aaron shall offer the Levites before the LORD for an offering of
the children of Israel, that they may execute the service of the LORD.
[12] And the Levites shall lay their hands upon the heads of the bullocks:
and thou shalt offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt
offering, unto the LORD, to make an atonement for the Levites.
[13] And thou shalt set the Levites before Aaron, and before his sons, and
offer them for an offering unto the LORD.
[14] Thus shalt thou separate the Levites from among the children of Israel:
and the Levites shall be mine.
[15] And after that shall the Levites go in to do the service of the
tabernacle of the congregation: and thou shalt cleanse them, and offer them
for an offering.
[16] For they are wholly given unto me from among the children of Israel;
instead of such as open every womb, even instead of the firstborn of all the
children of Israel, have I taken them unto me.
[17] For all the firstborn of the children of Israel are mine, both man and
beast: on the day that I smote every firstborn in the land of Egypt I
sanctified them for myself.
[18] And I have taken the Levites for all the firstborn of the children of
Israel.
[19] And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from
among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in
the tabernacle of the congregation, and to make an atonement for the
children of Israel: that there be no plague among the children of Israel,
when the children of Israel come nigh unto the sanctuary.
[20] And Moses, and Aaron, and all the congregation of the children of
Israel, did to the Levites according unto all that the LORD commanded Moses
concerning the Levites, so did the children of Israel unto them.
[21] And the Levites were purified, and they washed their clothes; and Aaron
offered them as an offering before the LORD; and Aaron made an atonement for
them to cleanse them.
[22] And after that went the Levites in to do their service in the
tabernacle of the congregation before Aaron, and before his sons: as the
LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did they unto them.
[23] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
[24] This is it that belongeth unto the Levites: from twenty and five years
old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service of the tabernacle
of the congregation:
[25] And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the
service thereof, and shall serve no more:
[26] But shall minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of the
congregation, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shalt thou
do unto the Levites touching their charge.

NUMBERS 9

The Passover at Sinai

1 (Nu 1:1; Ex 40:2) And the Lord spoke to Moses in the Wilderness of Sinai, 
in the first month of the second year after they came out 
of the land of Egypt, saying: 
2 (Lev 23:5; Dt 16:1-2) Let the children of Israel also keep the Passover 
at its appointed time. 
3 (Ex 12:6-11) On the fourteenth day of this month, at 
you will keep it at its appointed time. According to all 
its rites and according to all its ceremonies, you will keep it.
4 Moses spoke to the children of Israel, that they should keep the Passover. 
5 (Jos 5:10) They kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the first month 
at evening in the Wilderness of Sinai. According to all that 
the Lord commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did.
6 (Ex 18:15; Nu 27:2) There were men who were unclean by 
the dead body of a man, so they could not keep the Passover on that day, 
and they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day. 
7 And those men said to him, "We are defiled by the dead body of a man. 
Why are we kept back, that we may not offer an offering of the Lord 
at its appointed time among the children of Israel?"
8 (Nu 27:5; Ps 85:8) And Moses said to them, "Stand still, and I will hear 
what the Lord will command concerning you."
9 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 
10 Speak to the children of Israel, saying: If any man of you or 
of your posterity is unclean because of a dead body, or is far off 
on a journey, he will still keep the Passover to the Lord. 
11 (2Ch 30:2-15) The fourteenth day of the second month at evening 
they will keep it, and eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. 
12 (Ex 12:10; 12:46; 12:43) They will leave none of it until the morning, 
nor break any of its bones. According to all the ordinances of the Passover 
they will keep it. 
13 (Ge 17:14; Ex 12:15) But the man who is ceremonially clean, 
and is not on a journey, and fails to keep the Passover, 
even the same person will be cut off from his people. 
Because he did not bring the offering of the Lord at its appointed time, 
that man will bear his sin.
14 (Ex 12:48-49; Lev 24:22) If a stranger will sojourn among you 
and will keep the Passover to the Lord, according to the ordinance 
of the Passover, and according to the manner of it, so he will do. 
You will have one ordinance both for the resident alien 
and for the natural born citizen of the land.

[1] And the LORD spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the first
month of the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt,
saying,
[2] Let the children of Israel also keep the passover at his appointed
season.
[3] In the fourteenth day of this month, at even, ye shall keep it in his
appointed season: according to all the rites of it, and according to all the
ceremonies thereof, shall ye keep it.
[4] And Moses spake unto the children of Israel, that they should keep the
passover.
[5] And they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month at
even in the wilderness of Sinai: according to all that the LORD commanded
Moses, so did the children of Israel.
[6] And there were certain men, who were defiled by the dead body of a man,
that they could not keep the passover on that day: and they came before
Moses and before Aaron on that day:
[7] And those men said unto him, We are defiled by the dead body of a man:
wherefore are we kept back, that we may not offer an offering of the LORD in
his appointed season among the children of Israel?
[8] And Moses said unto them, Stand still, and I will hear what the LORD
will command concerning you.
[9] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
[10] Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If any man of you or of your
posterity shall be unclean by reason of a dead body, or be in a journey afar
off, yet he shall keep the passover unto the LORD.
[11] The fourteenth day of the second month at even they shall keep it, and
eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.
[12] They shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor break any bone of it:
according to all the ordinances of the passover they shall keep it.
[13] But the man that is clean, and is not in a journey, and forbeareth to
keep the passover, even the same soul shall be cut off from among his
people: because he brought not the offering of the LORD in his appointed
season, that man shall bear his sin.
[14] And if a stranger shall sojourn among you, and will keep the passover
unto the LORD; according to the ordinance of the passover, and according to
the manner thereof, so shall he do: ye shall have one ordinance, both for
the stranger, and for him that was born in the land.

The Cloud and the Fire

15 (Ex 13:21; 40:34) And on the day that the tabernacle was erected, 
the cloud covered the tabernacle, the tent of the testimony, 
and at evening there was over the tabernacle the appearance of fire 
until the morning. 
16 (Ne 9:12) So it was always. The cloud covered it by day, 
and the appearance of fire by night. 
17 (Ex 40:36–38; Jn 10:9) When the cloud was lifted up from 
over the tabernacle, then after it the children of Israel journeyed, 
and in the place where the cloud settled, 
there the children of Israel camped. 
18 (1Co 10:1) At the commandment of the Lord the children of Israel 
journeyed, and at the commandment of the Lord they camped. As long as 
the cloud dwelt over the tabernacle they camped. 
19 When the cloud remained many days over the tabernacle, 
then the children of Israel kept the charge of the Lord and did not journey. 
20 When the cloud remained a few days over the tabernacle, 
according to the commandment of the Lord they dwelt in their tents, 
and according to the commandment of the Lord they journeyed. 
21 When the cloud dwelt from evening until morning 
and the cloud was lifted up in the morning, 
then they journeyed. Whether it was by day or by night 
that the cloud was lifted up, they journeyed. 
22 (Ex 40:36-37) Whether it was two days, or a month, 
or a long time that the cloud dwelt over the tabernacle, 
the children of Israel dwelt in their tents and did not journey. 
But when it was lifted up they journeyed. 
23 (Nu 9:19) At the command of the Lord they camped, 
and at the command of the Lord they journeyed. 
They kept the charge of the Lord at the command 
of the Lord by the hand of Moses.

[15] And on the day that the tabernacle was reared up the cloud covered the
tabernacle, namely, the tent of the testimony: and at even there was upon
the tabernacle as it were the appearance of fire, until the morning.
[16] So it was alway: the cloud covered it by day, and the appearance of
fire by night.
[17] And when the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, then after that
the children of Israel journeyed: and in the place where the cloud abode,
there the children of Israel pitched their tents.
[18] At the commandment of the LORD the children of Israel journeyed, and at
the commandment of the LORD they pitched: as long as the cloud abode upon
the tabernacle they rested in their tents.
[19] And when the cloud tarried long upon the tabernacle many days, then the
children of Israel kept the charge of the LORD, and journeyed not.
[20] And so it was, when the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle;
according to the commandment of the LORD they abode in their tents, and
according to the commandment of the LORD they journeyed.
[21] And so it was, when the cloud abode from even unto the morning, and
that the cloud was taken up in the morning, then they journeyed: whether it
was by day or by night that the cloud was taken up, they journeyed.
[22] Or whether it were two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud
tarried upon the tabernacle, remaining thereon, the children of Israel abode
in their tents, and journeyed not: but when it was taken up, they journeyed.
[23] At the commandment of the LORD they rested in the tents, and at the
commandment of the LORD they journeyed: they kept the charge of the LORD, at
the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses.

NUMBERS 10

The Silver Trumpets

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:  
2 (Isa 1:13; Ps 81:3) Make for yourself two silver trumpets. 
Of a hammered work you will make them, and you will use them 
for summoning of the assembly and directing the breaking up of the camps. 
3 (Jer 4:5) When they blow both of them, all the assembly will assemble 
themselves to you at the door of the tent of meeting. 
4 (Ex 18:21; Nu 7:2) If they blow only one, then the leaders, 
who are heads of the thousands of Israel, will gather themselves to you. 
5 (Nu 2:3-9; 10:14) When you blow an alarm, then the camps that lie 
on the east will set out. 
6 (Nu 2:10-16; 10:18) When you blow an alarm the second time, 
then the camps that lie on the south will set out. 
They will blow an alarm for their setting out. 
7 (Joel 2:1) But when the assembly is to be gathered together, 
you will blow, but you will not sound an alarm.
8 (Nu 31:6; 1Ch 15:24) The sons of Aaron, the priests, 
will blow the trumpets, and they will be to you as an ordinance 
forever throughout your generations. 
9 (Ge 8:1; Jdg 2:18) And if you go to war in your land against 
the enemy that oppresses you, then you will blow an alarm with 
the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the Lord your God, 
and you will be saved from your enemies. 
10 (Ps 81:3; Lev 23:24) Also in the day of your gladness, 
and at your appointed days, and in the beginnings of your months, 
you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over 
the sacrifices of your peace offerings that they may be a memorial 
for you before your God. I am the Lord your God.

[1] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
[2] Make thee two trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them:
that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the
journeying of the camps.
[3] And when they shall blow with them, all the assembly shall assemble
themselves to thee at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
[4] And if they blow but with one trumpet, then the princes, which are heads
of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves unto thee.
[5] When ye blow an alarm, then the camps that lie on the east parts shall
go forward.
[6] When ye blow an alarm the second time, then the camps that lie on the
south side shall take their journey: they shall blow an alarm for their
journeys.
[7] But when the congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but
ye shall not sound an alarm.
[8] And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with the trumpets; and
they shall be to you for an ordinance for ever throughout your generations.
[9] And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you,
then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered
before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.
[10] Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the

The Departure From Sinai

11 And it was on the twentieth day of the second month, 
in the second year, that the cloud was lifted up from 
over the tabernacle of the testimony. 
12 (Ge 21:21; Nu 12:16) The children of Israel set out 
from the Wilderness of Sinai. And the cloud dwelt 
in the Wilderness of Paran. 
13 And they set out for the first time at the command of the 
Lord by the hand of Moses.
14 (Nu 2:3-9; 1:7) And the standard of the camp of the sons of Judah 
set out first by their armies, and over his armies was Nahshon the 
son of Amminadab. 
15 Over the armies of the tribe of the children of Issachar was Nethanel 
the son of Zuar. 
16 Over the armies of the tribe of the children of Zebulun was Eliab 
the son of Helon. 
17 (Nu 1:51; 7:6-8) The tabernacle was taken down, and the sons of Gershon
and the sons of Merari set out, carrying the tabernacle.
18 (Nu 2:10-16; 1:5) The standard of the camp of Reuben set out 
by their armies, and over his armies was Elizur the son of Shedeur. 
19 (Nu 1:6) Over the armies of the tribe of the children of Simeon 
was Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai. 
20 (Nu 1:14; 2:14) Over the armies of the tribe of the children of Gad 
was Eliasaph the son of Deuel. 
21 (Nu 10:17; 4:4-16) The Kohathites set out, carrying the sanctuary, 
and they set up the tabernacle before they came.
22 (Nu 2:18-24; 1:10) The standard of the camp of the children of Ephraim 
set out by their armies, and over his armies was Elishama the son of Ammihud. 
23 Over the armies of the tribe of the children of Manasseh was Gamaliel 
the son of Pedahzur. 
24 (Nu 1:11) Over the armies of the tribe of the children of Benjamin 
was Abidan the son of Gideoni.
25 (Jos 6:9; Nu 1:12) Then the standard of the camp of the children of Dan 
set out, which was the rear guard of all the camps by their armies, 
and over his armies was Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai. 
26 (Nu 1:13) Over the armies of the tribe of the children of Asher 
was Pagiel the son of Okran. 
27 (Nu 1:15) Over the armies of the tribe of the children of Naphtali 
was Ahira the son of Enan. 
28 (Nu 2:34) This was the order of march 
of the children of Israel, company by company, when they set out.
29 (Ge 12:7; Ex 2:18; 3:1) Moses said to Hobab, the son of Reuel the Midianite, 
Moses' father-in-law, "We are setting out to the place of which the Lord said,
'I will give it to you.' Come with us, and we will do good to you 
because the Lord has spoken good concerning Israel."
30 Hobab said to him, "I will not go. But I will depart to my own land, 
and to my kindred."
31 (Job 29:15) So Moses said, "Please do not leave us, because you know 
where to camp in the wilderness, and you may be our eyes. 
32 (Jdg 1:16; 4:11) Moreover, if you go with us, then it will be that 
whatever good the Lord will do for us, we will likewise do for you."
33 (Dt 1:33; Ex 3:1) They set out three days from the mountain of the Lord, 
and the ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them 
the three days' journey, to find a resting place for them. 
34And the cloud of the Lord was over them by day 
when they set out from of the camp.
35 (Ps 68:1-2) And it was, when the ark set out, that Moses said,
"Rise up, O Lord,
and let Your enemies be scattered,
and let them that hate You flee before You."
36 (Dt 1:10) And when it rested, he said,
"Return, O Lord,
to the multitude of thousands of Israel."

[11] And it came to pass on the twentieth day of the second month, in the
second year, that the cloud was taken up from off the tabernacle of the
testimony.
[12] And the children of Israel took their journeys out of the wilderness of
Sinai; and the cloud rested in the wilderness of Paran.
[13] And they first took their journey according to the commandment of the
LORD by the hand of Moses.
[14] In the first place went the standard of the camp of the children of
Judah according to their armies: and over his host was Nahshon the son of

[15] And over the host of the tribe of the children of Issachar was

[28] Thus were the journeyings of the children of Israel according to their
armies, when they set forward.
[29] And Moses said unto Hobab, the son of Raguel the Midianite, Moses'
father in law, We are journeying unto the place of which the LORD said, I
will give it you: come thou with us, and we will do thee good: for the LORD
hath spoken good concerning Israel.
[30] And he said unto him, I will not go; but I will depart to mine own
land, and to my kindred.
[31] And he said, Leave us not, I pray thee; forasmuch as thou knowest how
we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou mayest be to us instead of
eyes.
[32] And it shall be, if thou go with us, yea, it shall be, that what
goodness the LORD shall do unto us, the same will we do unto thee.
[33] And they departed from the mount of the LORD three days' journey: and
the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them in the three days'
journey, to search out a resting place for them.
[34] And the cloud of the LORD was upon them by day, when they went out of
the camp.
[35] And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise
up, LORD, and let thine enemies be scattered; and let them that hate thee
flee before thee.
[36] And when it rested, he said, Return, O LORD, unto the many thousands of
Israel.

Hosea 3

Hosea Redeems His Wife

1 (Jer 3:20; Hos 1:2-3) Then the Lord said to me, "Go, again, love a woman
who is loved by a lover and is committing adultery, just as the Lord loves
the children of Israel, who look to other gods and love raisin cakes."
2 (Lev 27:16; Eze 45:11) So I purchased her for myself for fifteen shekels
of silver, and for a homer of barley, and a half homer of barley.
3 (Dt 21:13) Then I said to her, "You will remain with me many days.
You will not play the whore, and you will not belong to another man.
And also I will be with you."
4 (Jdg 17:5; Ge 31:19; Ex 28:4) For the children of Israel will remain
many days without a king and without a prince, without a sacrifice
and without a standing stone, and without an ephod and teraphim.
5 (Isa 2:2; Jer 30:9) Afterward the children of Israel will return
and seek the Lord their God and David their king.
They will come in fear to the Lord and to His goodness in the latter days.

[1] Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend,
yet an adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of

What do we do? Scott and Bree agonised over how to relate to friends and 
family members who'd chosen unbiblical ways of life. As they studied the 
Scriptures and prayed, a path forward emerged: firstly, they reinforced 
their love for their friends and loved ones; secondly, they expressed 
what was true and good about them based on God's good design; 
and thirdly, they shared how they would lovingly interact with them based 
on Scriptural wisdom. In time, greater relational trust was built 
as Scott and Bree extended Christ-like love.

Hosea probably wondered how to relate to his wife - a woman whose chosen 
way of life didn't honour God or him. God directed the prophet to 
"show your love to your wife again, though she is . . . an adulteress"
(Hosea 3:1). The prophet evidently reinforced his love for her while 
also expressing what was right and true for them and their relationship 
before God (v. 3). His relationship with her symbolised God's own challenge 
with rebellious ancient Israel. Though they'd chosen a wrong course, 
He provided a path forward, telling them 
His "love will know no bounds" (14:4 NLT) but to choose 
His ways for they "are right" (v. 9).

As God provides wisdom and discernment, let's continue to extend His love 
and truth to those who've chosen unbiblical ways of life. 
His example provides the path forward.

Week 4 - The Blessings of Grace Day 5 - 1 John 1:9

"If God already knows everything about me, everything I've done,
then why do I need to confess it?" Grant struggled with a common
dilemma for many Christians. Indeed, God, knew all his sin - much
better than Grant did himself. But Grant needed to confess,
not for God's benefit, but for his own. Grant needed to agree with God
that his sin was wrong, and put himself in a position to receive God's
grace in forgiveness.
1 John 1:9 make the process quit clear. We confess,
and God forgives and cleanses. Many of us, however, want to take on
God's part as well. We confess, agreeing with God that our sin is wrong.
But then we proceed to try to 'clean up our act,'bargaining with God,
promising that if he will forgive us just this once,
we won't ever to it again.
The problem is, we can never keep such a promise.
We probably will do it again, and then we are back where we started,
begging for forgiveness, and trying once more to cleanse
ourselves for our unrighteousness.
God offers freedom from such futile performance. He says, "Just confess.
Agree that you sinned. Submit yourself to me. Then I'll take over from there."
God's grace does not give us freedom to keep on sinning, of course - we need
to cooperate with the work of his Spirit in our lives and do all we can
to avoid sin. But we do not have to beg God for forgiveness - forgiveness
is offered to us freely.
We do not have to clean up out act before God will accept us; God can make
the necessary changes in our lives. When we confess, submit ourselves to God,
and allow him to work within us, he is able both to forgive us and to cleanse
us from unrighteousness.

Application

a) In what ways have I bartered with God and tried to "Clean up my act"
in order to deserve his forgiveness?

b) What is my part in confession? What is God's response?
Why it is important for me to recognize God's part in my
confession and forgiveness?

It is estimated that Calgary has 82000 Muslims and Edmonton another 50000 .
Alberta may have a total as high as 195240 today.
Calgary is notable as the first Canadian city with a Muslim mayor.  It's
become a prominent place of Islamic fundamentalism.
Edmonton's Muslim population is very diverse, with the largest group
coming from Tanzania, followed by Somalia, and then North African countries 
such as Egypt, Morocco, etc.
Muslims are coming to faith in Jesus! They overcome huge spiritual,
emotional and cultural hurdles to follow Christ. Yet their challenges still 
continue, especially in growing in discipleship. They often fell lost in our
Western congregations, and equally lost trying to find a church body with whom
they can identify. some are even being lured into Christian cult groups.

Please join us in praying for:
- The church to reach out to the growing Muslim populations in Alberta.
- for Canadian churches to start contextualised discipleship ministries to
Muslim-background believers.
- for Muslm-background believers to be well grounded spiritually and socially
  in their faith and the Church.
- and for Muslim-background believers to share their faith with their 
not-yet-believing family and friendship networks.
- for Farsi and Arabic fellowships to grow in spiritual maturity and outreach.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid  celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that 
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you 
know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 :  17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; 
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, 
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants 
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. 
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below: 
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.  20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people - 
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims 
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days! 

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .
