NUMBERS 11

Complaints in the Desert

1 (Lev 10:2; Nu 16:35) Now when the people complained openly before the Lord, 
the Lord heard, and His anger burned. Then the fire of the Lord burned among 
them and consumed the outskirts of the camp. 
2 (Nu 21:7; 16:45-48) And the people cried out to Moses, and Moses prayed 
to the Lord, and the fire was quenched. 
3 (Dt 9:22) He called the name of the place Taberah 
because the fire of the Lord burned among them.
4 (Ex 12:38; 1Co 10:6) The mixed multitude that was among them lusted, 
and the children of Israel wept again and said, 
"Who will give us meat to eat? 
5 (Ex 16:3) We remember the fish, which we ate in Egypt for free, 
the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic. 
6 (Nu 21:5) But now our life is dried up. There is nothing at all except 
this manna before our eyes."
7 (Ex 16:31; Ge 2:12) The manna was as coriander seed, 
and it looked like bdellium. 
8 (Ex 16:16-18; 16:31) The people went about and gathered it, 
and ground it in mills or beat it in a mortar, and boiled it in pots, 
and made cakes of it, and the taste of 
it was like the taste of cakes baked in oil. 
9 (Ex 16:13-14) When the dew fell on the camp at night, the manna fell on it.
10 Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in 
the opening of his tent, and the anger of the Lord burned greatly. 
Moses was also displeased. 
11 (Dt 1:12) Moses said to the Lord, "Why have You hurt Your servant? 
And why have I not found favor in Your eyes, that You lay the burden 
of all this people on me? 
12 (Ex 13:5; Isa 49:23) Have I conceived all this people? Have I given 
them birth, that You should say to me, 'Carry them in your bosom, as a 
nurse bears the nursing child,' to the land which You swore to their fathers? 
13 (Mt 15:33; Mk 8:4) Where am I to get meat to give to all these people? 
For they weep to me, saying, 'Give us meat, that we may eat.' 
14 (Ex 18:18) I am not able to bear all these people alone, 
because the burden is too heavy for me. 
15 (1Ki 19:4; Jnh 4:3) If You do this to me, please kill me at once, 
if I have found favor in Your eyes, and do not let me see my misery."

The Seventy Elders

16 (Ex 24:1; 24:9) Then the Lord said to Moses, "Gather to Me seventy men 
of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people, 
and officers over them, and bring them to the tent of meeting,
 that they may take a stand there with you. 
17 (Nu 11:25; 1Sa 10:6) And I will come down, and I will speak with you there, 
and I will take of the Spirit which is on you and will put it on them, 
and they will bear the burden of the people with you, and you will not bear 
it by yourself.
18 (Ex 19:10; Nu 11:1) "And say to the people: Consecrate yourselves 
for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat, for you have wept in the hearing 
of the Lord, saying, 'Who will give us meat to eat? 
For it was better for us in Egypt.' 
Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat. 
19 You shall eat, not one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, 
or twenty days, 
20 (Ps 106:15; Nu 21:5) but a whole month, until it comes out 
at your nostrils, and it will be nauseating to you because 
you rejected the Lord who is among you and have wept before Him, 
saying, 'Why did we come out of Egypt?' "
21 (Ex 12:37; 38:26) And Moses said, "The people I am with number 
600000 foot soldiers, and You have said, 
'I will give them meat that they may eat a whole month.' 
22 (Mt 15:33) Will the flocks and the herds be slaughtered for them, 
to satisfy them? Or will all the fish of the sea be gathered together 
for them, to satisfy them?"
23 (Isa 50:2; 59:1) And the Lord said to Moses, 
"Is the hand of the Lord shortened? Now you will see 
if My word will happen to you or not."
24 (Nu 11:16) Moses went out, and he spoke to the people the words 
of the Lord and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people 
and set them around the tabernacle. 
25 (Nu 11:17; 12:5; 1Sa 10:10) And the Lord came down in a cloud, 
and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was on him, 
and gave it to the seventy elders, and when the Spirit rested on them, 
they prophesied, but did not do it again.
26 (1Sa 20:26; Jer 36:5) But two men remained in the camp. 
The name of one was Eldad, and the name of the other, Medad. 
And the Spirit rested on them. They were among those listed, 
but they had not gone out to the tent, and so they prophesied in the camp. 
27 And a young man ran and told Moses and said, 
"Eldad and Medad prophesy in the camp."
28 Then Joshua the son of Nun, the assistant of Moses from his youth, 
answered and said, "My lord Moses, forbid them."
29 (1Co 14:5) Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for my sake? 
Oh, that all the people of the Lord were prophets, 
and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!" 
30 And Moses returned to the camp, he and the elders of Israel.

The Lord Sends Quail

31 (Ex 16:13; Ps 105:40) Now a wind from the Lord started up, 
and it swept quail from the sea and let them fall beside the camp, 
about a day's journey on this side and a day's journey on the other side, 
around the camp, and about two cubits (About 3 feet, or 90 centimeters. 
above the ground.) 
32 (Eze 45:11; Ex 16:36) And the people stayed up all that day, all night, 
and all the next day, and gathered the quail. Those who gathered least 
gathered ten homers. (Likely about 1 3/4 tons, or 1.6 metric tons.)
And they spread them out for themselves all around the camp. 
33 (Ps 78:30-31; Nu 16:49) While the meat was between their teeth, 
before it was chewed, the anger of the Lord burned against the people, 
and the Lord struck the people with a very great slaughter. 
34 (Dt 9:22) And he called the name of that place Kibroth Hattaavah 
because there they buried the people who had the craving.
35 (Nu 33:17; 12:16) The people journeyed from Kibroth Hattaavah 
to Hazeroth, and they camped at Hazeroth.

Numbers 11
[1] And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD
heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among
them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.
[2] And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD,
the fire was quenched.
[3] And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the
LORD burnt among them.
[4] And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the
children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to
eat?
[5] We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers,
and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:
[6] But our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna,
before our eyes.
[7] And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the
colour of bdellium.
[8] And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or
beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the
taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.
[9] And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon
it.
[10] Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man
in the door of his tent: and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly;
Moses also was displeased.
[11] And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy
servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou
layest the burden of all this people upon me?
[12] Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that thou
shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth
the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?
[13] Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep
unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
[14] I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy
for me.
[15] And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I
have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.
[16] And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders
of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers
over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they
may stand there with thee.
[17] And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the
spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear
the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.
[18] And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow,
and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying,
Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore
the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat.
[19] Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten
days, nor twenty days;
[20] But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be
loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the LORD which is among
you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?
[21] And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand
footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a
whole month.
[22] Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or
shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice
them?
[23] And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD's hand waxed short? thou
shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.
[24] And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD, and
gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round
about the tabernacle.
[25] And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the
spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came
to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did
not cease.
[26] But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was
Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and
they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle:
and they prophesied in the camp.
[27] And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do
prophesy in the camp.
[28] And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men,
answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.
[29] And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all
the LORD's people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon
them!
[30] And Moses gat him into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.
[31] And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the
sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day's journey on this side,
and as it were a day's journey on the other side, round about the camp, and
as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.
[32] And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the
next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten
homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.
[33] And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the
wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the
people with a very great plague.
[34] And he called the name of that place Kibroth-hattaavah: because there
they buried the people that lusted.
[35] And the people journeyed from Kibroth-hattaavah unto Hazeroth; and
abode at Hazeroth. 

(Why whine to your Saviour? Trust in him to provide your needs.)

NUMBERS 12

Miriam and Aaron Oppose Moses

1 (Ex 2:21) And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because 
of the Cushite woman whom he married, for he had married a Cushite woman. 
2 (Nu 11:1; 16:3) They said, "Has the Lord spoken only by Moses? 
Has He not spoken also by us?" And the Lord heard it.
3 (Mt 11:29) (Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all the men 
on the face of the earth.)
4 And the Lord spoke at once to Moses and to Aaron and to Miriam, 
"Come out, you three, to the tent of meeting." And those three came out. 
5 (Nu 11:25; Ex 34:5) The Lord came down in a pillar of cloud, and stood 
in the opening of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam, 
and they both came forward. 
6 (Ge 46:2; 1Ki 3:5) He said, "Hear now My word.
If there is a prophet among you,
I the Lord will make Myself known to him in a vision,
and I will speak to him in a dream.
7 (Ps 105:26) Not so with My servant Moses;
he is entrusted with all My house.
8 (Dt 34:10; Ex 24:10-11) Face to face I speak with him clearly,
and not in riddles,
and the likeness of the Lord will he behold.
Then why were you not afraid
to speak against My servant, against Moses?"
9 And the anger of the Lord burned against them, and He set out.
10 (Dt 24:9; 2Ki 5:27) When the cloud went away from over the tabernacle, 
Miriam became leprous as snow, and Aaron turned toward Miriam 
and saw that she was leprous. 
11 (2Sa 19:19; 24:10) Aaron said to Moses, "Alas, my lord, do not lay the 
sin on us, which we have done foolishly, and which we have sinned. 
12 Do not let her be as dead, who when he goes out of his mother's womb 
half his flesh is eaten."
13 And Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, "O God, heal her, I pray!"
14 (Dt 25:9; Job 30:10) But the Lord said to Moses, 
"If her father had but spit in her face, would she not be ashamed seven days? 
Let her be shut out of the camp seven days, 
and afterward she may be received again." 
15 Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days, 
and the people did not set out until Miriam was brought in again.
16 (Nu 11:35; 10:12) Afterward the people set out from Hazeroth 
and camped in the Wilderness of Paran.

Numbers 12
[1] And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman
whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.
[2] And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not
spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it.
[3] (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the
face of the earth.)
[4] And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam,
Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three
came out.
[5] And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door
of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
[6] And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the
LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in
a dream.
[7] My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.
[8] With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark
speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then
were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
[9] And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed.
[10] And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam
became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold,
she was leprous.
[11] And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the
sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned.
[12] Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he
cometh out of his mother's womb.
[13] And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech
thee.
[14] And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face,
should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp
seven days, and after that let her be received in again.
[15] And Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days: and the people
journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again.
[16] And afterward the people removed from Hazeroth, and pitched in the
wilderness of Paran. 

(Never anger the Lord foolishly)

NUMBERS 13

Spying in Canaan

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 
2 (Nu 32:8; Dt 1:22-25) "Send men that they may explore the land of Canaan, 
which I am giving to the children of Israel. Of every tribe of their fathers 
you will send a man, each one a chief among them."
3 (Nu 12:16; 32:8) And Moses sent them from the Wilderness of Paran according 
to the Lord. All those men were heads of the children of Israel. 
4 These were their names:
of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zakkur;
5 of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;
6 (Nu 14:6; 13:30) of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;
7 of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph;
8 (Ex 24:13; Nu 11:28) of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun;
9 of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;
10 of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi;
11 of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, 
Gaddi the son of Susi;
12 of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli;
13 of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;
14 of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi;
15 of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Maki.
16 (Nu 13:8) These are the names of the men whom Moses 
sent to explore the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.
17 (Ge 12:9; Jdg 1:9) Moses sent them to explore the land of Canaan 
and said to them, "Go up to this southland, and go up into the mountain. 
18 And see what the land is, and the people that dwell in it,  
whether they are strong or weak, few or many; 
19 and what the land is that they dwell in, whether it is good or bad, 
and what cities are that they dwell in, whether in tents, 
or in fortifications; 
20 (Dt 31:23; Ne 9:25) and what the land is, whether it is fat or lean, 
whether there is wood in it or not. And you be courageous and bring 
some of the fruit of the land." Now the time was the time 
of the first ripe grapes.
21 (Nu 20:1; 33:36) So they went up and explored the land 
from the Wilderness of Zin to Rehob, near Lebo Hamath. 
22 (Ps 78:12; 78:43) They went up by the Negev and came to Hebron 
where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were 
(now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt). 
23 (Nu 32:9; 13:24) And they came to the Valley of Eshkol, 
and cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, 
and they carried it on a pole between two of them, 
and they brought some of the pomegranates and of the figs. 
24 The place was called the Valley of Eshkol because of the cluster 
of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from there. 
25 They returned from exploring the land after forty days.

The Spies' Report

26 (Nu 32:8; 20:1) And they returned and came to Moses and to Aaron 
and to all the assembly of the children of Israel, 
to the Wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh, and brought back word to them 
and to the entire assembly and showed them the fruit of the land. 
27 (Ex 3:8; 3:17) They reported to him and said, "We came to the land 
where you sent us, and surely it flows with milk and honey, 
and this is the fruit of it. 
28 (Dt 1:28; 9:1-2) However, the people are strong that dwell in the land, 
and the cities are fortified and very great, and also we saw the children 
of Anak there. 
29 (Nu 14:43) The Amalekites dwell in the land of the Negev, 
and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell 
in the mountains, and the Canaanites dwell by the sea 
and by the edge of the Jordan."
30 (Nu 14:24) Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, 
"Let us go up at once and possess it, for we are able to overcome it."
31 (Dt 1:28; Jos 14:8) But the men that went up with him said, 
"We are not able to go up against the people 
because they are stronger than we." 
32 (Nu 14:36-37; Am 2:9) They gave the children of Israel 
a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, 
"The land through which we have gone as spies is a land 
that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom 
we saw in it are men of great stature. 
33 (Ge 6:4; Dt 1:28) And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, 
which come from the giants, and in our eyes we were like grasshoppers, 
and so we were in their eyes."

Numbers 13
[1] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
[2] Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give
unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a
man, every one a ruler among them.
[3] And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness
of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.
[4] And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of
Zaccur.
[5] Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.
[6] Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
[7] Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.
[8] Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the son of Nun.
[9] Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.

[17] And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them,
Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:
[18] And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein,
whether they be strong or weak, few or many;
[19] And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and
what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong
holds;
[20] And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood
therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the
land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.
[21] So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto
Rehob, as men come to Hamath.
[22] And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman,
Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven
years before Zoan in Egypt.)
[23] And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a
branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a
staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.

which the children of Israel cut down from thence.

[28] Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the
cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak
there.
[29] The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and
the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites
dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.
[30] And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at
once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
[31] But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against
the people; for they are stronger than we.
[32] And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched
unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to
search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the
people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
[33] And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the
giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in
their sight.

Isaish 26:1-9 

A Song of Victory

1 (Isa 60:18; 12:1) In that day this song shall be sung in the land of Judah:
We have a strong city;
He appoints walls
and bulwarks for security.
2 (Ps 118:20; Isa 60:11) Open the gates,
that the righteous nation may enter,
the one who remains faithful.
3 You will keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on You,
because he trusts in You.
4 (Isa 12:2; 50:10) Trust in the Lord forever,
for in God the Lord we have an everlasting rock.
5 (Job 40:11-13) For He brings down those who dwell on high,
the lofty city; He lays it low; He lays it low,
even to the ground;
He brings it even to the dust.
6 The foot shall tread it down,
even the feet of the poor
and the steps of the needy.
7 The way of the righteous is smooth;
O Upright One, make the path of the righteous level.
8 In the way of Your judgments, O Lord,
we have waited for You eagerly;
the desire of our souls is Your name,
even Your memory.
9 (Ps 63:1; Mt 6:33 ) With my soul I have desired You in the night;
my spirit within me seeks You diligently;
for when Your judgments are in the earth,
the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

[1] In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a
strong city; salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks.
[2] Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may
enter in.
[3] Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee.
[4] Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting
strength:

within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth,
the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.

The diagnosis hit hard: breast cancer. My friend shared how she lost sleep 
as she tossed and turned, fretting over what was happening in her body. 
Then one night she cried out in despair, asking God to come and help her 
and relieve her of this burden.

"I felt God's peace immediately," she confided. She felt it flow into her 
and cover her, as if she was suddenly wrapped in a warm blanket. 
And in the months that followed, as she went through the various 
stages of treatment, this gift of God's peace never left her.

God promises peace to His people, whatever circumstances 
we are going through. Many centuries ago, His prophet Isaiah 
assured the Israelites of the gift of peace. They should trust 
in the Lord forever, "for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal"
(Isaiah 26:4). After all, those who trust in Him, keeping their 
minds fixed on Him, will be kept "in perfect peace" (v. 3). Interestingly, 
in the original language of Hebrew, that term perfect peace appears 
as shalom shalom. The word being repeated emphasises the intensity 
of the thought.

We too might face a shattering diagnosis, a heart-rending betrayal, 
a disappointing result. But we can trust that not only will God 
never leave us, but that He will keep us in His perfect peace.

Week 4 -The Blessings of Grace Day 6 - A Reasonable Alternative

Isaiah 1:18

18 (Ps 51:7; Rev 7:14) "Come now, and let us reason together, "
says the Lord. Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD:
though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

"Is Christianity Reasonable?" Linda Wanted to Know. "I've heard all my life
that faith is a crutch, an invention of weak minds to assure them
of some order in the world."
Linda was not alone in her objection; thinking people for generations
have been asking themselves the same question.
God is not intimidated by our questions; in fact, he confronts the issue
head-on in the Scriptures. "Let us reason together," the Lord invites.
Even according to the most basic of human reasoning,
faith is a reasonable alternative , a rational choice for a thinking person.
God indicates in his Word that confession and forgiveness are "reasonable".
"Think!" God says. "You sin, and you know it. You are not even able to be
true to your own principles. You cannot deal with your sin by will power
or effort. But I can deal with it! I can forgive it - and I will"
We cannot come to faith in God through Christ by intellect alone, of course.
Our spirits much reach out in faith, beyond what we can see. But intellect
supports faith; trusting in Christ is an eminently rational decision.
In Deut 30:1-20 , God set before the people a choice: Life or Death, blessing
or cursing. "Choose Life!" he tells them. We have the same choice.
The ultimate decision is thus simplified, the 'rational' alternative becomes
clear. We can choose death, by attempting to control our own destinies ,
or life, by giving ourselves fully into the hand of the Master.

Application

a) Why is the choice to acknowledge my sin and receive forgiveness a
'Rational choice'?

b) What are the alternatives to such a decision?

c) What other aspects of God's word
and work in my life seem 'reasonable' to me?

It is estimated that Calgary has 82000 Muslims and Edmonton another 50000 .
Alberta may have a total as high as 195240 today.
Calgary is notable as the first Canadian city with a Muslim mayor.  It's
become a prominent place of Islamic fundamentalism.
Edmonton's Muslim population is very diverse, with the largest group
coming from Tanzania, followed by Somalia, and then North African countries 
such as Egypt, Morocco, etc.
Muslims are coming to faith in Jesus! They overcome huge spiritual,
emotional and cultural hurdles to follow Christ. Yet their challenges still 
continue, especially in growing in discipleship. They often fell lost in our
Western congregations, and equally lost trying to find a church body with whom
they can identify. some are even being lured into Christian cult groups.

Please join us in praying for:
- The church to reach out to the growing Muslim populations in Alberta.
- for Canadian churches to start contextualised discipleship ministries to
Muslim-background believers.
- for Muslm-background believers to be well grounded spiritually and socially
  in their faith and the Church.
- and for Muslim-background believers to share their faith with their 
not-yet-believing family and friendship networks.
- for Farsi and Arabic fellowships to grow in spiritual maturity and outreach.
- for current and new workers among Muslims in these growing Muslim

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid  celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that 
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you 
know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 :  17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; 
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, 
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants 
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. 
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below: 
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.  20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people - 
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims 
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days! 

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .
