NUMBERS 19

Laws of Purification

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying: 
2 (Dt 21:3; Lev 22:20-25) This is the statute of the law which the Lord has 
commanded, saying: Tell the children of Israel that they will bring you 
a healthy red heifer, which has no blemish, 
and on which a yoke has never gone, 
3 (Lev 4:12; 4:21) and you will give it to Eleazar the priest, 
and he will bring it outside the camp, and it will be slaughtered before him. 
4 (Lev 4:17; 4:6) And Eleazar the priest will take from its blood 
with his finger and sprinkle some of its blood directly 
before the tent of meeting seven times. 
5 (Ex 29:14; Lev 4:11-12) Then it will be burned in his sight. 
Its hide and its flesh and its blood, with her dung, will be burned. 
6 (Lev 14:4; 14:6) And the priest will take cedar wood, and hyssop, 
and scarlet and throw it into the midst of the burning of the heifer. 
7 (Lev 11:25) Then the priest will wash his clothes, and he will bathe 
his body in water, and afterward he will come into the camp, and 
the priest will be unclean until evening. 
8 He who burns it will wash his clothes in water, and bathe his body 
in water, and will be unclean until evening.
9 (Nu 19:13; Heb 9:13) A man who is clean will gather the ashes of the heifer 
and deposit them outside the camp in a clean place, and it will be guarded 
for the assembly of the children of Israel for water of purification.
It is for purifying from sin. 
10 He that gathers the ashes of the heifer will wash his clothes 
and be unclean until evening, and it will be for the children of Israel 
and for the foreigner that lives among them, for an eternal statute.
11 (Nu 5:2; Lev 21:1) He that touches the dead body of any man will 
be unclean seven days. 
12 (Nu 31:19) He will make himself clean on the third day, 
and on the seventh day he will be clean. But if he does not make himself 
clean on the third day, then the seventh day he will not be clean. 
13 (Lev 15:31; 22:3) Whoever touches the body of any man that is dead 
and does not purify himself defiles the tabernacle of the Lord, 
and that person will be cut off from Israel. 
Because the water of purification was not sprinkled on him, 
he will be unclean. His uncleanness is still on him.
14 This is the law, when a man dies in a tent. Each person who comes 
into the tent and all that is in the tent will be unclean seven days. 
15 (Lev 11:32; Nu 31:20) Every open vessel which has no covering
fastened on it is unclean.
16 (Nu 31:19; Mt 23:27) Whoever in the field touches one that is slain 
with a sword, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave will 
be unclean seven days.
17 For an unclean person they will take from the ashes of the burnt 
sin offering, and running water will be on it in a vessel. 
18 A clean person will take hyssop, and dip it in the water, 
and splash it on the tent, and on all the vessels, and on the people who 
were there, and on him that touched a bone, or one slain, or one dead,
 or a grave. 
19 (Lev 14:9; Nu 19:12) The clean person will splash on the unclean person 
on the third day and on the seventh day. And on the seventh day he shall 
purify himself, wash his clothes, and bathe in water; and he will be clean 
at evening. 
20 (Nu 19:13) But the man who is unclean and does not purify himself,
that person will be cut off from among the assembly 
because he has defiled the sanctuary of the Lord. 
The water of purification has not been sprinkled on him. He is unclean. 
21 It will be an eternal statute to them.
He that sprinkles the water of purification will wash his clothes, 
and he that touches the water of purification will be unclean until evening. 
22 (Hag 2:13) Whatever the unclean person touches will be unclean, 
and the person that touches it will be unclean until evening.

Numbers 19
[1] And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
[2] This is the ordinance of the law which the LORD hath commanded, saying,
Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring thee a red heifer without
spot, wherein is no blemish, and upon which never came yoke:
[3] And ye shall give her unto Eleazar the priest, that he may bring her
forth without the camp, and one shall slay her before his face:
[4] And Eleazar the priest shall take of her blood with his finger, and
sprinkle of her blood directly before the tabernacle of the congregation
seven times:
[5] And one shall burn the heifer in his sight; her skin, and her flesh, and
her blood, with her dung, shall he burn:
[6] And the priest shall take cedar wood, and hyssop, and scarlet, and cast
it into the midst of the burning of the heifer.
[7] Then the priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his flesh in
water, and afterward he shall come into the camp, and the priest shall be
unclean until the even.
[8] And he that burneth her shall wash his clothes in water, and bathe his
flesh in water, and shall be unclean until the even.
[9] And a man that is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer, and lay
them up without the camp in a clean place, and it shall be kept for the
congregation of the children of Israel for a water of separation: it is a
purification for sin.
[10] And he that gathereth the ashes of the heifer shall wash his clothes,
and be unclean until the even: and it shall be unto the children of Israel,
and unto the stranger that sojourneth among them, for a statute for ever.
[11] He that toucheth the dead body of any man shall be unclean seven days.
[12] He shall purify himself with it on the third day, and on the seventh
day he shall be clean: but if he purify not himself the third day, then the
seventh day he shall not be clean.
[13] Whosoever toucheth the dead body of any man that is dead, and purifieth
not himself, defileth the tabernacle of the LORD; and that soul shall be cut
off from Israel: because the water of separation was not sprinkled upon him,
he shall be unclean; his uncleanness is yet upon him.
[14] This is the law, when a man dieth in a tent: all that come into the
tent, and all that is in the tent, shall be unclean seven days.
[15] And every open vessel, which hath no covering bound upon it, is
unclean.
[16] And whosoever toucheth one that is slain with a sword in the open
fields, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean
seven days.
[17] And for an unclean person they shall take of the ashes of the burnt
heifer of purification for sin, and running water shall be put thereto in a
vessel:
[18] And a clean person shall take hyssop, and dip it in the water, and
sprinkle it upon the tent, and upon all the vessels, and upon the persons
that were there, and upon him that touched a bone, or one slain, or one
dead, or a grave:
[19] And the clean person shall sprinkle upon the unclean on the third day,
and on the seventh day: and on the seventh day he shall purify himself, and
wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and shall be clean at even.
[20] But the man that shall be unclean, and shall not purify himself, that
soul shall be cut off from among the congregation, because he hath defiled
the sanctuary of the LORD: the water of separation hath not been sprinkled
upon him; he is unclean.
[21] And it shall be a perpetual statute unto them, that he that sprinkleth
the water of separation shall wash his clothes; and he that toucheth the
water of separation shall be unclean until even.
[22] And whatsoever the unclean person toucheth shall be unclean; and the
soul that toucheth it shall be unclean until even.

NUMBERS 20

Moses Strikes the Rock

1 (Nu 13:21; Ex 15:20) Then the children of Israel, the whole assembly, 
came to the Wilderness of Zin in the first month, and the people dwelt 
in Kadesh, and Miriam died there and was buried there.
2 (Nu 16:19; 16:42) And there was no water for the assembly, and they 
gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron. 
3 (Ex 17:2; Nu 16:31-35) The people argued with Moses, and spoke, saying, 
"O that we had died when our brothers died before the Lord! 
4 (Ex 17:3) And why have you brought up the assembly of the Lord 
into this wilderness, that we and our livestock should die here? 
5 (Nu 16:14) And why have you brought us up from Egypt, to bring 
us into this evil place? It is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, 
or of pomegranates. Nor is there any water to drink."
6 (Nu 14:5; 16:4) Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly 
to the door of the tent of meeting, and they fell on their faces, 
and the glory of the Lord appeared to them. 
7 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 
8 (Ex 4:17; 17:5-6) Take the rod, and gather the assembly together,
you and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, 
and it will give its water, and you will bring out to them water 
from the rock; so you will give the assembly and their livestock drink.
9 (Nu 17:10) So Moses took the rod from before the Lord, as He commanded him. 
10 (Ps 106:32-33) Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly before the rock,
and he said to them, "Hear now, you rebels. 
Will we bring out water from this rock for you?"
11 (1Co 10:4; Ex 17:6) And Moses lifted up his hand, and he struck the rock 
twice with his rod, and plenty of water came out, and the assembly drank, 
and their livestock.
12 (Nu 27:14; Dt 1:37) The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, 
"Because you did not believe in Me, to sanctify Me in the eyes of 
the children of Israel, therefore you will not bring this assembly 
into the land which I have given them"
13 (Ex 17:7; Ps 95:8) This is the water of Meribah 
because the children of Israel argued with the Lord, 
and He was sanctified among them.

[1] Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the
desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam
died there, and was buried there.
[2] And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered
themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
[3] And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we
had died when our brethren died before the LORD!
[4] And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this
wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?
[5] And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in
unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of
pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.
[6] And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door
of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and

[7] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
[8] Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy
brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give
forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock:
so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
[9] And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.
[10] And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock,
and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of
this rock?
[11] And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice:
and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their
beasts also.
[12] And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to
sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not
bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.
[13] This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove
with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.

Edom Denies Israel Passage

14 (Jdg 11:16-17; Dt 23:7) Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom,
"Thus says your brother Israel: You know all the hardship that has found us, 
15 (Ge 46:6; Ex 12:40) how our fathers went down into Egypt, 
and we lived in Egypt a long time, and the Egyptians distressed us 
and our fathers. 
16 (Ex 14:19; 23:20) And when we cried out to the Lord, He heard our voice 
and sent an angel and brought us out of Egypt.
"And here we are in Kadesh, a city on the edge of your territory. 
17 (Dt 2:27) Please let us pass through your land. We will not pass through 
the fields or the vineyards, or drink of the water of the wells. 
We will travel the king's highway. We will not turn to the right hand 
nor the left, until we have passed through your territory."
18 Edom said to him,
"You will not pass through me, lest with the sword I come out against you."
19 (Dt 2:6; 2:28) The children of Israel said to him,
"We will travel the highway, and if we and our livestock drink of your water, 
then we will pay for it. I will only go through on my feet 
without doing anything else.."
20 (Jdg 11:17; Am 1:11) He said,
"You will not go through."
And Edom came out against them with many people and with a strong hand. 
21 (Jdg 11:18; Dt 2:29) Edom refused to give Israel passage through 
his territory, so Israel turned away from him.

[14] And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith
thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us:
[15] How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long
time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:
[16] And when we cried unto the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel,
and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a
city in the uttermost of thy border:
[17] Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through
the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of
the wells: we will go by the king's highway, we will not turn to the right
hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.
[18] And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out
against thee with the sword.
[19] And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way:
and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will
only, without doing any thing else, go through on my feet.
[20] And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him
with much people, and with a strong hand.
[21] Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore
Israel turned away from him.

The Death of Aaron

22 (Nu 20:1; 20:14) They journeyed from Kadesh, and the children of Israel, 
even the whole assembly, came to Mount Hor. 
23 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, 
by the border of the land of Edom, saying, 
24 (Ge 25:8; Dt 32:50) "Aaron will be gathered to his people because 
he will not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel 
because you rebelled against Me at the water of Meribah. 
25 Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor, 
26 (Nu 20:24) and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar 
his son, and Aaron will be gathered to his people, and he will die there."
27 Moses did as the Lord commanded, and they went up onto Mount Hor 
in the sight of all the assembly. 
28 (Dt 10:6; Ex 29:29-30) Moses stripped Aaron of his garments 
and put them on Eleazar his son. And Aaron died there 
on the top of the mountain, and Moses and Eleazar 
came down from the mountain. 
29 (Dt 34:8) When all the assembly saw that Aaron was dead, 
they wept for Aaron thirty days, all the house of Israel.

[22] And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from
Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor.
[23] And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of
the land of Edom, saying,
[24] Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into
the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled
against my word at the water of Meribah.
[25] Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor:
[26] And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and
Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.
[27] And Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in
the sight of all the congregation.
[28] And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his
son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar
came down from the mount.
[29] And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for
Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.

(Listen and Obey the Lord)

NUMBERS 21

Arad Destroyed

1 (Nu 33:40; Jdg 1:16) When King Arad the Canaanite, who lived in the Negev, 
heard that Israel came by the way of Atharim, he fought against Israel and 
took some of them captive. 
2 (Ge 28:20; Jdg 11:30) Israel vowed a vow to the Lord and said, 
"If You will indeed deliver this people into my hand, 
then I will utterly destroy their cities." 
3 (Nu 14:45; Dt 1:44) The Lord listened to the voice of Israel and delivered 
up the Canaanites, and they utterly destroyed them and their cities, 
and he called the name of the place Hormah.

[1] And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell
that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and
took some of them prisoners.
[2] And Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou wilt indeed
deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.
[3] And the LORD hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the
Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called
the name of the place Hormah.

The Bronze Serpent

4 (Ex 6:9; Jdg 11:18) They journeyed from Mount Hor by the way of the Red Sea,
to go around the land of Edom, and the soul of the people was 
very discouraged because of the way. 
5 (Ps 78:19) The people spoke against God and against Moses, 
"Why have you brought us up from Egypt to die in the wilderness? 
For there is no bread or water, and our soul loathes this worthless manna."
6 (Dt 8:15; Jer 8:17) So the Lord sent poisonous serpents among the people, 
and they bit the people, and many children of Israel died. 
7 (Ex 8:8; Nu 11:2) So the people came to Moses and said, 
"We have sinned for we have spoken against the Lord and against you. 
Pray to the Lord, and He will take away the serpents from us." 
And Moses prayed for the people.
8 The Lord said to Moses, "Make a poisonous serpent, and put it on a pole, 
and it will be, that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, will live."
9 (2Ki 18:4; Jn 3:14-15) Moses made a bronze serpent and put it on a pole, 
and if a serpent had bitten any man, 
when he looked at the bronze serpent he lived.

[4] And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass
the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of
the way.
[5] And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye
brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread,
neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.
[6] And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the
people; and much people of Israel died.
[7] Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we
have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he
take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
[8] And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon
a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he
looketh upon it, shall live.
[9] And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came
to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of
brass, he lived.

The Journey to Moab

10 The children of Israel set out and camped in Oboth. 
11 They journeyed from Oboth and camped at Iye Abarim in the wilderness, 
which is before Moab toward the sunrise. 
12 (Dt 2:13-14) From there they journeyed and camped in the Valley of Zered. 
13 (Nu 22:36; Jdg 11:18) From there they journeyed and camped 
on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that comes 
out of the borders of the Amorites, for Arnon is the border of Moab, 
between Moab and the Amorites. 
14 Therefore it is said in the Book of the Wars of the Lord:
"Zahab in Suphah, and in the brooks
of Arnon, 
15 (Nu 21:28; Dt 2:9) and at the stream of the brooks
that goes down to the dwelling of Ar,
and lies on the border of Moab."
16 (Ex 17:6; Nu 20:8) From there they went to Beer. 
That is the well of which the Lord spoke to Moses, 
"Gather the people together, and I will give them water."
17 (Ps 105:2) Then Israel sang this song:
"Spring up, O well!
sing to it -
18 the leaders dug the well;
the nobles of the people dug,
by the lawgiver, with their staffs."
And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah, 
19 and from Mattanah to Nahaliel, and from Nahaliel to Bamoth, 
20 (Nu 23:28) and from Bamoth in the valley that is in the country 
of Moab to the top of Pisgah, which looks toward Jeshimon.

[10] And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in Oboth.
[11] And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ije-abarim, in the
wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.
[12] From thence they removed, and pitched in the valley of Zared.
[13] From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which
is in the wilderness that cometh out of the coasts of the Amorites: for
Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
[14] Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the LORD, What he did
in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,
[15] And at the stream of the brooks that goeth down to the dwelling of Ar,
and lieth upon the border of Moab.
[16] And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the LORD
spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.
[17] Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it:
[18] The princes digged the well, the nobles of the people digged it, by the
direction of the lawgiver, with their staves. And from the wilderness they
went to Mattanah:
[19] And from Mattanah to Nahaliel: and from Nahaliel to Bamoth:
[20] And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of Moab, to the
top of Pisgah, which looketh toward Jeshimon.

King Sihon Defeated

21 (Dt 2:26-28; Jdg 11:19-21) Israel sent messengers to Sihon 
king of the Amorites, saying,
22 (Nu 20:17) "Let me pass through your land. 
We will not turn into the fields nor into the vineyards. 
We will not drink of the waters of the well. 
But we will go along by the king's highway 
until we are past your borders."
23 (Jdg 11:20) Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his border. 
But Sihon gathered all his people together and went out against Israel 
into the wilderness, and he came to Jahaz and fought against Israel. 
24 (Am 2:9; Ge 32:22) Israel defeated him with the edge of the sword 
and possessed his land from Arnon to Jabbok, 
all the way to the children of Ammon, because the border of the children 
of Ammon was strong. 
25 Israel took all these cities, and Israel lived in 
all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all its villages. 
26 Because Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, 
who had fought against the former king of Moab 
and taken all his land out of his hand, to Arnon.
27 Therefore they that speak in proverbs say:
"Come into Heshbon; let it be built,
and let the city of Sihon be established,
28 (Nu 21:15; Jer 48:45-46) because a fire went out of Heshbon,
a flame from the city of Sihon;
it has devoured Ar of Moab
and the masters of the high places of Arnon.
29 (Jdg 11:24; 2Ki 23:13) Woe to you, Moab!
You have perished, O people of Chemosh!
He has made his sons fugitives,
and his daughters captives,
to Sihon king of the Amorites.
30 (Isa 15:2; Jer 48:18) "We have overthrown them;
Heshbon is perished to Dibon,
and we have desolated them to Nophah,
which reaches to Medeba."
31 Thus Israel lived in the land of the Amorites.

[21] And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,
[22] Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into
the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go
along by the king's high way, until we be past thy borders.
[23] And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon
gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the
wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
[24] And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land
from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon: for the border of
the children of Ammon was strong.
[25] And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of
the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof.
[26] For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had
fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his
hand, even unto Arnon.

[28] For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of
Sihon: it hath consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of

his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of
the Amorites.
[30] We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have
laid them waste even unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba.
[31] Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.

King Og Defeated

32 (Nu 32:1; Jer 48:32) Moses sent to spy out Jazer, 
and they took its villages and drove out the Amorites who were there. 
33 (Jos 13:12; Dt 1:4) They turned and went up by the way of Bashan, 
and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, 
he and all his people, to the battle at Edrei.
34 The Lord said to Moses, "Do not fear him because
 into your hand I have given him, and all his people, 
and his land, and you will do to him as you did to Sihon 
king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon."
35 So they killed him, and his sons, and all his people, 
until there was not a survivor left to him alive, 
and they possessed his land.

Numbers 21

[32] And Moses sent to spy out Jaazer, and they took the villages thereof,
and drove out the Amorites that were there.
[33] And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of
Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at
Edrei.

One winter day, a delivery man noticed an elderly woman shovelling snow off 
her driveway. He stopped and convinced the eighty-one-year-old to let him 
finish the job. Concerned that he'd be late delivering his other packages, 
she retrieved another shovel. They worked side by side for almost fifteen 
minutes as her neighbours watched from afar. "I'm thankful you helped me," 
she said. "You're God-sent."

During a conversation with an expert in the law, Jesus redefined the concept 
of loving our neighbours (Luke 10:25-37). When Jesus asked him to interpret 
the law he knew so well, the expert said, 
"And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy
heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy
mind; and thy neighbour as thyself." (v. 27).

Then Jesus shared a story about two religious leaders who ignored a robbery 
victim. But a Samaritan - a person most Jewish leaders in those days 
considered inferior - sacrificed to help the man in need (vv. 30-35). 
When the expert of the law realised that the one who had mercy 
on the man had loved like a neighbour, Jesus encouraged him to 
do likewise (vv. 36-37).

Loving others isn't always easy or convenient. But as Jesus overwhelms us with
His love, He'll help us love all our neighbours like the Good Samaritan did.

On her wedding day, the bride dresses carefully for the ceremony
that is about to take place. Never before has she spent so much
time in preparation for one relatively brief event. When she
looks in the mirror and rejoices in her happiness, she responds not
out of vanity, but for sheer joy as she anticipates the coming ceremony.
God wants his people, lie that bride to be joyful, to rejoice in the Lord,
the Bridegroom. And he gives, through his grace,
the garments of joy to his beloved ones.
He clothes us, Isaiah says, with salvation, and covers us with
the robe of righteousness. The wardrobe that God provides is not merely
a utility garment, a coverall that hides our sin from his eyes.
It is his own righteousness in Christ, given to us as a free gift, so that
we might be united with him. And God himself, Isaiah says,
is filled with joy, adorning himself like a bridegroom.
When we truly see God's immeasurable gift in accepting us as him own,
we also will "greatly rejoice" in the Lord. He, the eternal god,
Creator of the universe, desires to be united with us, as a husband
desires his wife! God does not simply accept us grudgingly,
reminding us of our unworthiness to be with him. Rather, he celebrates
with unrestrained joy his oneness in Spirit with those he calls his own.
And we, having been fully forgiven
and set free from sin, can rejoice unashamedly as well.

Saskatoon has seen quick growth in its Muslim population over the past
5 years, which maybe as high as 5000 today. Islamic leaders have 
focused specifically on this city , having twice already sent cohorts
of about 70 families to start mosques. There are now 7 Islamic centres
of worship and an ISlamic madrassah (school) located right next to a 
Christian school.
Of particular concern recently is the number of young adults who grew up
in evangelical churches and converted to Islam. Most of these are young
women whowere wooed by Muslim man and became emotionally bonded. 
Both prior to and after marrying, these women are known to convert to ISlam.

Agree in prayer with us for:
- entire congregations and individual believers to catch God's heart
and passion for reaching Muslims in Saskatoon and the other growing
Muslim population centres of Saskatchewan.
- for the eyes and understanding of Canadian youth to be opened to the 
  spiritual reality of Islam, and not deceived nor manipulated into
  converting to a religion which cannot offer assurance of salvation. 
- for the few workers among Muslims now engaged there, and for many more
  to be raised up into effective witness.
- for prayer and training events that are starting in Saskatoon 
  to spread and grow to other cities.

Pray for the Tuareg of West Africa

FEBRUARY 28, 2025

Lee grew up in a typical Tuareg community where, left to mind the family herds
and farm, he never had opportunity to attend school. He dreamt of one day 
learning to read.

One evening as a young man, he finished work in the onion fields 
and came to the nearest town where he found a gospel worker selling books 
and tracts. He purchased several books, commenting that he wished he knew 
how to read them. The worker asked, 
"You just spent money buying books that you can't read?"

Lee replied, "That is my next question. Would you be able to help me 
learn to read? It has been my dream almost my whole life."

Together they spent months learning to read materials produced 
in Tamajaq, one of the languages of the Tuareg. They started with words, 
then sentences and eventually progressed to a book of animal tales. 
As Lee's reading got stronger, they went on to read the first twelve 
chapters of Genesis. From Genesis, 
they went on to read the entire gospel of Luke.

One evening, Lee said to his friend, "I have something to tell you. 
I have decided to follow Jesus like you."


The worker, encouraged and amazed, responded, "So, Lee, who is Jesus to you?"

His response was unforgettable. Lee said, "Do you remember when Abraham 
was asked to sacrifice his son, Isaac, but at the last minute the angel 
stopped Abraham and there was a ram in the thicket that took Isaac's place? 
As we have been reading in this book of Luke, I can see that Jesus is my ram!"

How to Pray
That God would reveal to the Tuareg, a proud people, 
their need for repentance and the joy of freedom in Christ.

Pray for Turks in Earthquake Zones

MARCH 1, 2025

In February 2023, two strong earthquakes destroyed the biblical city 
of Antioch, affecting over 9 million people in the region. But God 
prompted the leaders of one church to remain in the devastation 
to serve their fellow survivors.

While providing food, clothing, tents and other emergency accommodation, 
they continued to hold services each Sunday that grew to over 100 people.

At one point, God moved the leader's wife to suggest to two Muslim women 
that they might consider copying the New Testament (NT). They both agreed 
and were provided with the supplies they needed. Then two people became
 three, four, five, and now close to 600 Muslims are copying down 
 the teachings of the New Testament, word-for-word!

One young man who had just finished copying had questions 
and asked what he should do about the sacrifices his family were preparing. 
He explained he had become a Christian from what he had read, 
without talking to anyone.

One person wanted to understand the New Testament better, 
so having finished, is copying the entire text once more! 
Another said, "I am so glad I took a package for my grandchildren. 
We are really enjoying copying, as a family!" Having finished 
copying the whole NT, one couple has begun copying the entire Bible. 
They have come to faith.

One young woman after copying the whole NT was asked what she had 
understood from what she had copied. She answered, 
"You know, I used to only like people who liked me. 
I had no use for anyone who was not interested in me. Now I am trying 
to love them! I used to be jealous of everyone. But now I'm trying to 
not be jealous."

How to Pray

Please pray that God will open the hearts and minds of Turkish men 
and women copying out the Scriptures to Himself.

Pray that the new believers will remain firm in their decision to follow Jesus.

Pray that God would make the church a light that points many to Christ.

Pray for Pashtuns

MARCH 2, 2025

Pashtuns (also knows as Pukhtuns or Pathans) are a tribal group of over 
60 million living in Pakistan and Afghanistan. In addition, many live 
and work throughout the Middle East as contract workers. Pashtuns are 
warrior-romantics; fierce in defense of their honour, 
yet enjoying music, poetry, and flowers.

Linguistic and cultural differences separate the Pashtuns 
of Pakistan from those of Afghanistan and also distinguish 
one tribe from another. However, Pashtuns agree that adherence 
to orthodox Sunni Islam, and strict observance of Pashto 
religious-cultural codes, are common to all. A strong sense 
of perceived religious purity separates Pashtuns 
from other religions, including Christianity.

Thankfully, there is a small number of Pashtuns who faithfully 
follow Christ. Among them are those who are reaching out with 
the Word of God to their own people. Believers translate 
and distribute the Word of God in print, audio, and video. 
For this generation, the Bible in Pakistani Pashto 
was published in 2019, and the New Testament in Afghan 
Pashto in 2023. Those with a laptop or smartphone can access 
the Scriptures in four major dialects of Pashto through Pashtozeray.org, 
afghanbibles.org and the Prophets Stories App. 
The Pashtun love of poetry makes the Psalms and Proverbs especially popular.

As religious extremism prevents most believers from meeting in person, 
connection online for Bible study is an important way by which Pashtuns 
can interact with God's Word.

Recently, several believers met online to talk about charity, 
fasting and prayer - the traditional means of earning treasure in heaven. 
On hearing what the Bible teaches, one man responded, 
"Our hearts have been enlightened by hearing God's word! 
We believe in this holy Word."

How to Pray

Pray that isolated Pashtun believers would 
receive comfort and instruction from God's Spirit.

Pray for the translation and distribution of Scripture resources 
in the various dialects of Pashto and for Pashtun to come to faith in Jesus.

Pray for efforts to disciple Pashtun believers and for the training 
and emergence of Godly church leaders.

Pray for Kazakhs of China

MARCH 3, 2025

Tolkyn grew up in a big city in eastern China, though his people consider 
the northwest of the country to be their home area. Despite not being 
especially religious or traditional, he considers himself a Muslim. 
Like many younger-generation Kazakhs, he's living abroad. Work, study, 
family connections, and immigration are common reasons for this phenomenon. 

Kazakhs who travel out of China tend to be ambitious and prize worldly wisdom.
Having escaped many limitations by coming out of their country, they recognise
the relative freedom they're enjoying. At least some of their dreams 
are coming true, though their happiness is often mixed with heartache 
over separation from relatives still in China.

Tolkyn is pursuing advanced studies and thinking seriously about marriage 
to his girlfriend, Saule. Through Saule, he met some Jesus-followers 
in the city where he lives. He had read some of John's gospel in Chinese 
years ago, but it didn't make much of an impression on him. Saule's friends, 
however, in a conversation about how a husband and wife relate to each other 
in marriage, brought up the passage in Ephesians 5 where it says, 
"Husbands, love your wives…" This really made Tolkyn think. 
The fact that this scripture was in Kazakh, and not some other language, 
also got his attention - so much so that he got a copy of the Bible 
in Kazakh for himself.

How to Pray

Pray for Kazakhs living abroad to feel a longing to know their Creator that 
nothing else (education, career, money, emigration, even family) can satisfy.

Pray for Kazakhs to meet Jesus-followers along 
their paths in pursuit of worldly ambitions.

Pray that Kazakhs would have the opportunity and desire to read scripture, 
and that they would receive understanding through the Holy Spirit.

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .

forth the illuminating truth of God's Word.

III) Pray that the Lord would use t

Pray to the Lord to organise your priorities.

Pray to the Lord and pray to trust and obey in the Lord
for He Will give you victory.

Pray to the Lord: "Dear Jesus, please give me opportunities 
to love all the people You created and call my neighbours."

Pray to the Lord and pray to know the Lord accepts you for who you are
sin and all. 

Pray to the Lord and pray for the prosperity of the soul.

Pray to the Lord and pray to lean into the strength of the Lord.
