NUMBERS 25

Moab Seduces Israel

1 (Jos 2:1; Nu 33:49) While Israel dwelt in Shittim, the people began to
commit harlotry with the women of Moab.
2 (1Co 10:20; Ex 20:5) They called the people to the sacrifices
of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.
3 (Jos 22:17; Hos 9:10) Israel joined himself to the Baal of Peor,
and the anger of the Lord was inflamed against Israel.
4 (Dt 13:17; 4:3) The Lord said to Moses, "Take all the chiefs of the people
and hang them before the Lord in the sun, that the fierce
anger of the Lord turn from Israel."
5 (Ex 18:21) Moses said to the judges of Israel,
"Kill each of the men who have aligned themselves with the Baal of Peor."
6 (Joel 2:17; Nu 22:4) Behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought
to his brothers a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses and in the sight
of all the assembly of the children of Israel, who were weeping
before the door of the tent of meeting.
7 (Ex 6:25) When Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest,
saw it, he rose up from among the assembly and took a spear in his hand,
8 (Nu 16:46-48) and he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust
both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman through her belly.
So the plague was stopped from the children of Israel.
9 (1Co 10:8; Nu 16:49-50) Those that died in the plague were 24000.
10 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
11 (Dt 32:16; 32:21) "Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron
the priest, has turned My wrath away from the children of Israel,
because he was zealous for My sake among them, so I did not exterminate
the children of Israel in My zeal.
12 (Mal 2:4-5) Therefore say, 'I hereby grant him My covenant of peace.
13 (Ex 40:15; 1Ch 6:4-15) And it will be for him and his seed after him,
even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was zealous
for his God and made an atonement for the children of Israel.'"
14 Now the name of the slain Israelite who was slain with the Midianite
woman was Zimri the son of Salu,
a leader of a chief house among the Simeonites.
15 (Nu 31:8; Jos 13:21) The name of the Midianite woman that was slain
was Kozbi the daughter of Zur.
He was chief over a people and of a father's house in Midian.
16 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
17 "Be hostile to the Midianites, and defeat them,
18 (Rev 2:14) because they have been hostile to you with their wiles,
with which they have deceived you in the matter of Peor
and in the matter of Kozbi the daughter of a leader of Midian,
their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague because of Peor."

Numbers 25
[1] And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom
with the daughters of Moab.
[2] And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the
people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.
[3] And Israel joined himself unto Baal-peor: and the anger of the LORD was
kindled against Israel.
[4] And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang
them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD
may be turned away from Israel.
[5] And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that
were joined unto Baal-peor.
[6] And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his
brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all
the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door
of the tabernacle of the congregation.
[7] And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw
it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;
[8] And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of
them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the
plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
[9] And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.
[10] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
[11] Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned
my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake
among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
[12] Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:
[13] And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an
everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an
atonement for the children of Israel.
[14] Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with
the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house
among the Simeonites.
[15] And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the
daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.
[16] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
[17] Vex the Midianites, and smite them:
[18] For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in
the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of
Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's
sake.

Unfathomable God</a>

Isaiah 40:25-31

25 (Isa 40:18) To whom then will you liken Me,
that I should be equal to him? says the Holy One.
26 (Ps 89:11-13; Isa 48:13) Lift up your eyes on high,
and see who has created these things,
who brings out their host by number;
He calls them all by name,
by the greatness of His might and the strength of His power;
not one of them is missing.
27 Why do you say, O Jacob,
and assert, O Israel,
"My way is hidden from the Lord,
and my justice escapes the notice of my God"?
28 (Ps 147:5; Ge 21:33; Isa 57:15) Have you not known?
Have you not heard,
that the everlasting God, the Lord,
the Creator of the ends of the earth,
does not faint, nor is He weary?
His understanding is inscrutable.
29 (Isa 41:10) He gives power to the faint,
and to those who have no might He increases strength.
30 (Isa 9:17) Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
and the young men shall utterly fall,
31 (2Co 4:16; Ps 103:5; Ex 19:4) but those who wait upon the Lord
shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
and they shall walk and not faint.

[25] To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
[26] Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things,
that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the
greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
[27] Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from
the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?
[28] Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the
LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary?
there is no searching of his understanding.
[29] He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he
increaseth strength.
[30] Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall
utterly fall:
[31] But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall
mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they
shall walk, and not faint.

In February 2023, the James Webb Space Telescope made another remarkable
discovery. Beyond where humankind had previously been able to peer into the
universe, it discovered six new galaxies. This discovery upended much of
what we know about space. One astronomer remarked, "It turns out we found
something so unexpected it actually creates problems for science."
An astrophysicist said almost apologetically,
"There is nothing wrong with not knowing."

It seems that God continues to surprise us all. The prophet Isaiah,
long before the advent of space telescopes, seems to be talking
directly to the scientists of today:
"Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the
LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary?
there is no searching of his understanding." (Isaiah 40:28).
He goes on, predating that astrophysicist's words,
"there is no searching of his understanding." (v. 28).

But if we stop there, we miss the beauty of this passage.
He who is unfathomable is not impersonal. He who created
those six galaxies, and all the others (v. 26), is the same
"He (God) giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he
increaseth strength." (v. 29). The God of the universe is also the
personal God who helps those who hope in Him to "they shall
mount up with wings as eagles;" (v. 31). Rest assured,
the unfathomable God is the one we do know-the one
who speaks into our lives with power and strength.

Reflect & Pray

What does it mean for God to be unfathomable yet personal?
How is He personal to you?

God of the universe, thank You
for being my heavenly Father. I place my hope in You.

Week 5 Rejoice in Grace - Day 4 Under the Mercy

Ps 13:5-6

5 I for my part confide in Your kindness;may my heart exult in Your salvation!
6 I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me.

5 But I have trusted in thy mercy; My heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.
6 I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

In Sheldon Vanauken's book "A Severe Mercy", Vanauken faced the "severe mercy"
of the untimely death of his wife. His friend C. S. Lewis , who had endured a
similar grief , comforted him through letters,
encouraging him with the exhotation, "Go under the Mercy".
While God's grace deals with sin and forgiveness,
God's mercy deals with the pain pf human existence. We all experience pain
- sometimes as a natural result of wrongs we have done, sometimes unfairly
as a consequence of living in a fallen world.
But for all who hurt, God provides
mercy - respite from pain, and the assurance of a Lord who cares.
David , in Psalm 13 says " I trust in your mercy, your unfailing love."
God's love never fail us, no matter how much we may have failed him.
David knew the consequences of sin; he knew what it meant to fail God,
to rebel against God's faithfulness. Yet David trusted in God's Goodness
rather than depending upon his own; he focused his attention upon the
mercy of the Lord.
We need, like David, to "Go under the mercy", even when it is a
"severe mercy."
Even when circumstances seem bad; even when things seem out of control; even
when we think God has forsaken us, yet his mercy is at work to bring us
fulfillment and cause us to turn to him
with a song of praise on our lips.

Application

a) How have I experienced the mercy of God?

b) How can these verses help me focus on God's
merciful intervention in my life even when circumstances seem
out of control?

4) From Prosperity Promises - Kenneth Copeland

1 Cor 13:3

3 If I give all my goods to feed the poor,
and if I give my body to be burned,
and have not love, it profits me nothing.

3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor,
and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity,
it profiteth me nothing.

5) From a Book called God's Promises for you:

God's Inexhaustible Strength

Ps 18:30-34

30 As for God, His way has integrity;
the word of the Lord is proven;
He is a shield to all those who take refuge in Him.
31 For who is God except the Lord?
Or who is a rock besides our God?
32 It is God who clothes me with strength,
and gives my way integrity.
33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
and causes me to stand on my high places.
34 He trains my hands for war,
so that my arms bend a bow of bronze.

30 As for God, his way is perfect:
The word of the LORD is tried: He is a buckler to all those that trust in him.
31 For who is God save the LORD?
Or who is a rock save our God?
32 It is God that girdeth me with strength,
And maketh my way perfect.
33 He maketh my feet like hinds' feet,
And setteth me upon my high places.
34 He teacheth my hands to war,
So that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.

Remember God's promises when You pray

The Lord's prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

9 "Therefore pray in this manner:
Our Father who is in heaven,
hallowed be Your name.
10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;
Your will be done
on earth, as it is in heaven.
11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread.
12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
13 (1Co 10:13; Jn 17:15) And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

9 After this manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Quick facts on Muslims in Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan 2015 population 1125400

est Muslim Population 17279

CNMM Networks: Saskatoon

Saskatoon has seen quick growth in its Muslim population over the past
5 years, which maybe as high as 5000 today. Islamic leaders have
focused specifically on this city , having twice already sent cohorts
of about 70 families to start mosques. There are now 7 Islamic centres
of worship and an ISlamic madrassah (school) located right next to a
Christian school.
Of particular concern recently is the number of young adults who grew up
in evangelical churches and converted to Islam. Most of these are young
women whowere wooed by Muslim man and became emotionally bonded.
Both prior to and after marrying, these women are known to convert to ISlam.

Agree in prayer with us for:
- entire congregations and individual believers to catch God's heart
and passion for reaching Muslims in Saskatoon and the other growing
Muslim population centres of Saskatchewan.
- for the eyes and understanding of Canadian youth to be opened to the
spiritual reality of Islam, and not deceived nor manipulated into
converting to a religion which cannot offer assurance of salvation.
- for the few workers among Muslims now engaged there, and for many more
to be raised up into effective witness.
- for prayer and training events that are starting in Saskatoon
to spread and grow to other cities.

30 days of prayer for the Muslim World 2025

Pray for Albanian Muslims</a>

Hamit was born into an Albanian Muslim family. He thought that by fasting
and doing good deeds he could find salvation, but these were things he
practiced only out of obligation to his parents. He felt nothing in his
heart but instead wondered, "why we are here in this world
and what is the purpose of life?"

One day when he was 17 years old, Hamit left school hungry and went to buy
himself a sandwich. It was wrapped in paper which he looked at curiously.
He realised that the sandwich was wrapped in a page from the Bible!
The man who sold the sandwich was an old Communist who invited him
to his house for a coffee. Hamit went to his home, and the old man
started to speak out negatively against the faith.

When Hamit asked to use the toilet, he found that instead of toilet paper,
the man had placed the pages of the Bible there. Shocked that the old pages
of a holy book were in the bathroom, Hamit took them, hiding them under
his clothes, so the old man wouldn't notice.

Later, at home, when Hamit began to read the pages of the Bible,
he began to understand that God loves him. John 3:16 became his favourite
verse. He decided to believe this love and take it into his heart.
He began to search for other people who could believe the same as the Bible.
He found a church where the pastor there led him in a prayer. Hamit beams:

"As soon as I finished praying, I felt that a heavy
stone had moved from my heart and I felt joy."

How to Pray

Pray for many Albanian Muslims to hear
the Good News and come to faith in Jesus.

Pray that Albanians who have come to faith
since the fall of Communism would become grounded in the Word.

Pray for unity between churches and that believers
would be known for their love.

Pray that the many Muslim missionaries who are in Albania
from other countries would actually fall in love with Jesus instead.

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .
