DEUTERONOMY 3

King Og Defeated

1 (Nu 21:33-35; Dt 1:4) Then we turned and went up the way to Bashan, 
and Og, the king of Bashan, came out against us, he and all his people,
to battle at Edrei. 
2 (Nu 21:23-25) Then the Lord said to me, "Do not fear him, for I will 
deliver him and all his people and his land into your hand; and you 
shall do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived 
at Heshbon."
3 (Nu 21:35) So the Lord, our God, delivered Og, the king of Bashan, 
with all his people, into our hands also, and we struck him down until 
there was no survivor remaining. 
4 (1Ki 4:13) We took all his cities at that time. There was not a city which 
we did not take from them: sixty cities, all the region of Argob, 
the kingdom of Og in Bashan. 
5 All these cities were fortified with high walls, gates, and bars, 
besides a great many rural towns. 
6 (Dt 2:34; 2:24; Ps 135:10-12) We utterly destroyed them, as we did to Sihon, 
king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children of every city.
7 (Dt 2:35) But we took all the livestock and the spoil of the cities
as plunder for ourselves.
8 (Jos 12:2-6; 13:9-12) So at that time we took from the hand 
of the two kings of the Amorites the land that was across the Jordan, 
from the River Arnon to Mount Hermon 
9 (1Ch 5:23; Ps 29:6) (the Sidonians call Hermon Sirion, 
and the Amorites call it Senir), 
10 all the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, 
as far as Salekah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. 
11 (Ge 14:5; 2Sa 12:26) For only Og, king of Bashan, remained 
of the remnant of the giants. 
(Notably, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron. 
Is it not in Rabbah of the children of Ammon?
 It is nine cubits long and four cubits wide,
 {About 14 feet long and 6 feet wide, or 4 meters long and 1.8 meters wide.} 
according to the cubit of a man.)

[2] And the LORD said unto me, Fear him not: for I will deliver him, and all
his people, and his land, into thy hand; and thou shalt do unto him as thou
didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.
[3] So the LORD our God delivered into our hands Og also, the king of
Bashan, and all his people: and we smote him until none was left to him
remaining.
[4] And we took all his cities at that time, there was not a city which we
took not from them, threescore cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom
of Og in Bashan.
[5] All these cities were fenced with high walls, gates, and bars; beside
unwalled towns a great many.
[6] And we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon,
utterly destroying the men, women, and children, of every city.
[7] But all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities, we took for a prey to
ourselves.
[8] And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the
Amorites the land that was on this side Jordan, from the river of Arnon unto
mount Hermon;
[9] (Which Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion; and the Amorites call it
Shenir;)
[10] All the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, unto
Salchah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
[11] For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold,
his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of
Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of
it, after the cubit of a man.

Division of the Land

12 (Dt 2:36; Nu 32:32-38) This is the land which we possessed at that time 
from Aroer, which is by the River Arnon, and half the hill country of Gilead 
and its cities I gave to the Reubenites and to the Gadites. 
13 (Nu 32:39-42) The rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, 
I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh. (All the region of Argob,
 with all Bashan, was called the land of giants. 
14 (Nu 32:41; Jos 13:13; 2Sa 3:3) Jair, the son of Manasseh,
took all the region of Argob, that is, Bashan, as far as the border 
of the Geshurites and the Maakathites, and called the villages
after his own name, Havvoth Jair, as it is to this day.) 
15 (Nu 32:39-40) I gave Gilead to Makir. 
16 (Nu 21:24; Dt 2:37) To the Reubenites and to the Gadites 
I gave the territory from Gilead even as far as the stream 
bed of the River Arnon, half the valley as the border to the River Jabbok, 
which is the border of the Ammonites; 
17 (Jos 12:3; Ge 14:3; Jos 3:16) the plain also, 
with the Jordan as the border, from Kinnereth as far as the east side 
of the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea), below the slopes of Pisgah.
18 (Jos 4:12-13) Then I commanded you at that time, saying, 
"The Lord your God has given you this land to possess it. 
All you men of valor shall pass over armed before your brothers, 
the children of Israel. 
19 But your wives and your little ones, and your livestock 
(for I know that you have much livestock) 
shall remain in your cities which I have given you 
20 (Jos 22:4) until the Lord has given rest to your brothers, 
as well as to you, and until they also possess the land which 
the Lord your God has given them beyond the Jordan. 
Then each of you shall return to his possession which I have given you."
 
[12] And this land, which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is by
the river Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I unto
the Reubenites and to the Gadites.
[13] And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, being the kingdom of Og, gave I
unto the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan,
which was called the land of giants.
[14] Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob unto the coasts
of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name,
Bashan-havoth-jair, unto this day.
[15] And I gave Gilead unto Machir.
[16] And unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites I gave from Gilead even
unto the river Arnon half the valley, and the border even unto the river
Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon;
[17] The plain also, and Jordan, and the coast thereof, from Chinnereth even
unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, under Ashdoth-pisgah eastward.
[18] And I commanded you at that time, saying, The LORD your God hath given
you this land to possess it: ye shall pass over armed before your brethren
the children of Israel, all that are meet for the war.
[19] But your wives, and your little ones, and your cattle, (for I know that
ye have much cattle,) shall abide in your cities which I have given you;
[20] Until the LORD have given rest unto your brethren, as well as unto you,
and until they also possess the land which the LORD your God hath given them
beyond Jordan: and then shall ye return every man unto his possession, which
I have given you. 

Moses Forbidden to Cross the Jordan

21 I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, "Your eyes have seen all that
the Lord your God has done to these two kings. So shall the Lord do 
to all the kingdoms where you pass. 
22 (Ex 14:14; Dt 20:4) Do not fear them, for the Lord your God, 
He shall fight for you."
23 I pleaded with the Lord at that time, saying, 
24 (Ex 15:11; Dt 11:2) "O Lord God, You have begun to show Your servant 
Your greatness, and Your mighty hand, for what god is there in heaven 
or in earth that can do according to Your works and according to Your might? 
25 (Ex 3:8) Let me, I pray, go over and see the good land that is beyond 
the Jordan, that good hill country, and Lebanon."
26 (Dt 1:37; 31:2) But the Lord was angry with me because of you 
and would not listen to me, and the Lord said to me, "Enough of that! 
Speak to Me no more of this matter. 
27 (Nu 27:12) Get up to the top of Pisgah and lift up your eyes to the west 
and north and south and east, and see it with your eyes, for you shall not 
cross over this Jordan. 
28 (Dt 31:3; 1:38) But charge Joshua and encourage him and strengthen him, 
for he shall cross over before this people, and he shall cause them 
to inherit the land which you will see."
29 (Dt 4:46; 34:6) So we remained in the valley over against Beth Peor.

[21] And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Thine eyes have seen all
that the LORD your God hath done unto these two kings: so shall the LORD do
unto all the kingdoms whither thou passest.
[22] Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.
[23] And I besought the LORD at that time, saying,
[24] O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy
mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do
according to thy works, and according to thy might?
[25] I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond
Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.
[26] But the LORD was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me:
and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of
this matter.
[27] Get thee up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward,
and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes:
for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.
[28] But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall
go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land
which thou shalt see.
[29] So we abode in the valley over against Beth-peor.

DEUTERONOMY 4

Moses Commands Obedience

1 (Dt 8:1; Eze 20:11) Now therefore, listen, O Israel, to the statutes 
and to the judgments which I am teaching you to do, so that you may live; 
and go in and possess the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, 
is giving you.
2 (Dt 12:32; Jos 1:7) You shall not add to the word which I am commanding 
you, nor shall you take anything from it, so that you may keep 
the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.
3 (Nu 25:1-9) Your eyes have seen what the Lord did at Baal Peor; for the 
Lord your God has destroyed from among you all the men 
who followed Baal of Peor. 
4 But you who held fast to the Lord your God are alive to this day, 
every one of you.
5 See, I have taught you statutes and judgments, just as the Lord 
my God commanded me, that you should do so in the land 
where you are entering to possess it. 
6 (Job 28:28; Pr 1:7) Therefore, keep and do them, for this is your wisdom 
and your understanding in the sight of the nations which shall hear 
all these statutes, and say, "Surely this great nation is a wise 
and understanding people."
7 (2Sa 7:23; Ps 46:1) For what nation is there so great, who has a god 
so near to it as the Lord our God is in all things whenever we call on Him? 
8 And what nation is there so great that has statutes and judgments 
so righteous as all this law, which I am setting before you today?
9 (Ge 18:19; Dt 4:23) Only give heed to yourself and keep your 
soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes have 
seen and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life; 
but teach them to your sons, and your grandsons. 
10 (Ex 19:9; 19:16) Especially concerning the day you stood 
before the Lord your God at Horeb, when the Lord said to me, 
"Gather the people together to Me, so that I will let them hear 
My words so that they may learn to fear Me all the days 
they shall live on the earth, and so that they may teach their children."
11 (Dt 5:23) Then you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, 
and the mountain burned with fire up to the midst of heaven, 
with darkness, a cloud, a thick cloud. 
12 (Ex 20:22; Dt 5:4) Then the Lord spoke to you out of the midst 
of the fire. You heard the sound of the words but saw no form
-only a voice was heard. 
13 (Ex 34:28; 24:12; 31:18) He declared to you His covenant, 
which He commanded you to perform, even the Ten Commandments, 
and He wrote them on two tablets of stone. 
14 The Lord commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments,
so that you might do them in the land which you are crossing over to possess.

[1] Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the
judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in
and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.
[2] Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye
diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your
God which I command you.
[3] Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of Baal-peor: for all the
men that followed Baal-peor, the LORD thy God hath destroyed them from among
you.
[4] But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you
this day.
[5] Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my
God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess
it.
[6] Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your
understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these
statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding
people.
[7] For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as
the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?
[8] And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so
righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice.
[13] And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to
perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.
[14] And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and
judgments, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess
it.

Idolatry Forbidden

15 (Jos 23:11; Isa 40:18) Give good care to yourselves, for you saw no form 
on the day that the Lord spoke to you in Horeb from the midst of the fire, 
16 (Ex 20:4-5; 32:7) lest you corrupt yourselves and make a graven image 
for yourselves in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female, 
17 (Ro 1:23) the likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness 
of any winged fowl that flies in the air, 
18 the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness 
of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth. 
19 (Dt 17:3; 2Ki 17:16) And beware, lest you lift up your eyes to heaven, 
and when you see the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host 
of heaven, you are led astray and worship them, and serve them, 
that which the Lord your God has allotted to all nations 
under the whole heaven. 
20 (1Ki 8:51; Jer 11:4) But the Lord has taken you 
and brought you out of the iron furnace, from Egypt, 
to be to Him a people of inheritance, as you are today.
21 (Dt 1:37; Nu 20:12) Furthermore, the Lord was angry with me because 
of you and swore that I should not cross over the Jordan, and that I would 
not go into that good land which the Lord your God is giving you 
for an inheritance. 
22 (Dt 3:25; 3:27) So I must die in this land. I shall not cross over 
the Jordan, but you shall go over and possess that good land. 
23 (Dt 4:9) Watch yourselves, so that you do not forget the covenant 
of the Lord your God, which He made with you, and make yourself 
a graven image or the likeness of anything as the Lord your God has 
forbidden you. 
24 (Ex 24:17; Dt 9:3) For the Lord your God is a consuming fire. 
He is a jealous God.
25 (Dt 4:16) When you produce children and grandchildren 
and you have remained a long time in the land, and you corrupt 
yourselves and make a graven image, or the likeness of anything, 
and do evil in the sight of the Lord your God, to provoke Him to anger, 
26 (Isa 1:2; Mic 6:2) I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, 
that you will surely and suddenly perish from off the land that you 
are going across the Jordan to possess. 
You will not prolong your days on it, but shall be completely destroyed. 
27 (Lev 26:33) The Lord shall scatter you among the peoples, 
and you shall be left few in number among the nations 
where the Lord shall lead you. 
28 (Dt 28:36; 28:64) There you will serve gods, the work of men's hands, 
wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell. 
29 (2Ch 15:4; Dt 30:1-3) But if from there you will seek the Lord your God, 
you will find Him, if you seek Him with all your heart 
and with all your soul. 
30 (Dt 31:29; Jer 23:20) When you are in distress and all these things come 
upon you, even in the latter days, if you turn to the Lord your God 
and shall be obedient to His voice 
31 (2Ch 30:9; Ne 9:31) (for the Lord your God is a merciful God), 
He will not abandon you or destroy you or forget the covenant 
of your fathers which He swore to them.
32 (Job 8:8; Mt 24:31) Indeed, ask about the days that are past, 
which were before you, since the day that God created man 
Or Adam. on the earth, and ask from one end of heavens to the other, 
whether there has ever been any such thing as this great thing, 
or has anything like it ever been heard?
33 (Ex 24:11; 33:20) Has a people ever heard the voice of God speaking 
out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and lived? 
34 (Dt 26:8; Ex 6:6) Or has God ever tried to take for Himself a nation 
from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, 
and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched-out arm, 
and by great terrors, according to all that the Lord your God did for 
you in Egypt before your eyes?
35 (1Sa 2:2; Isa 45:5) To you it was shown so that you might know 
that the Lord, He is God. There is no one else besides Him. 
36 (Ex 19:9; 19:19) Out of heaven He let you hear His voice 
so that He might instruct you, and on earth He showed you 
His great fire, and you heard His words out of the midst of the fire. 
37 (Dt 10:15; Ex 13:3) Because He loved your fathers, therefore 
He chose their descendants after them and personally brought 
you out of Egypt with His mighty power 
38 (Dt 7:1; Ex 23:27-28) to drive out nations from before you greater 
and mightier than you are, to bring you in, to give you their land 
for an inheritance, as it is today.
39 (Jos 2:11; Dt 4:35) Know therefore today, and consider it in your heart, 
that the Lord, He is God in heaven above and on the earth below. 
There is no other. 
40 (Lev 22:31; Dt 5:16) Therefore, you shall keep His statutes 
and His commandments which I command you this day, 
so that it may go well with you and with your children after you, 
and so that you may prolong your days in the land, 
which the Lord your God gives you, forever.

[15] Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of
similitude on the day that the LORD spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst
of the fire:
[16] Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude
of any figure, the likeness of male or female,
[17] The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any
winged fowl that flieth in the air,
[18] The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of
any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth:
[19] And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the
sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be
driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided
unto all nations under the whole heaven.
[20] But the LORD hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron

[28] And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone,
which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.
[29] But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find
him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
[30] When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee,
even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be
obedient unto his voice;
[31] (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee,
neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware
unto them.
[32] For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since
the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of
heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great
thing is, or hath been heard like it?
[33] Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the
fire, as thou hast heard, and live?
[34] Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of
another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by
a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according
to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
[35] Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is
God; there is none else beside him.
[36] Out of heaven he made thee to hear his voice, that he might instruct
thee: and upon earth he shewed thee his great fire; and thou heardest his
words out of the midst of the fire.
[37] And because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their seed after
them, and brought thee out in his sight with his mighty power out of Egypt;
[38] To drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou
art, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is
this day.
[39] Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD
he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.
[40] Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I
command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children
after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the
LORD thy God giveth thee, for ever.

Cities of Refuge
Nu 35:6-34; Dt 19:1-14; Jos 20:1-9

41 (Nu 35:6) Then Moses set apart three cities across the Jordan,
toward the east, 
42 that the manslayer might flee there, that is, anyone who killed 
his neighbor unintentionally without hating him in time past 
could flee to one of these cities and live: 
43 (Jos 20:8) Bezer in the wilderness in the plateau of the Reubenites, 
and Ramoth in Gilead of the Gadites, and Golan in Bashan of the Manassites.

[41] Then Moses severed three cities on this side Jordan toward the
sunrising;
[42] That the slayer might flee thither, which should kill his neighbour
unawares, and hated him not in times past; and that fleeing unto one of
these cities he might live:
[43] Namely, Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country, of the
Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead, of the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, of
the Manassites.

Introduction to the Law

44 This is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel. 
45 These are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances 
which Moses spoke to the children of Israel, after they came out of Egypt, 
46 (Dt 3:29) on this side of the Jordan, in the valley over against 
Beth Peor, in the land of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived 
at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel struck down, 
after they had come out of Egypt. 
47 They possessed his land, and the land of Og, king of Bashan, 
the two kings of the Amorites, who were across the Jordan toward the east, 
48 (Dt 3:9; 2:36; 3:12) from Aroer, which is by the edge of the River Arnon, 
even as far as Mount Sion (that is, Hermon), 
49 (Dt 3:17) with all the Arabah across the Jordan to the east, 
even to the sea of the Arabah, under the slopes of Pisgah.

[44] And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel:
[45] These are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which
Moses spake unto the children of Israel, after they came forth out of Egypt,
[46] On this side Jordan, in the valley over against Beth-peor, in the land
of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the
children of Israel smote, after they were come forth out of Egypt:
[47] And they possessed his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan, two
kings of the Amorites, which were on this side Jordan toward the sunrising;
[48] From Aroer, which is by the bank of the river Arnon, even unto mount

1 Now I say that as long as the heir is a child,
he does not differ from a servant though he is lord of all.

When Abigail's parents died tragically in a car accident, she inherited a 
large real estate portfolio. She also learned that her parents had arranged 
to place the portfolio in a trust. For the time being, she could access only
enough money for her college tuition. The rest would come when she was older. 
Abigail was frustrated, but she later realised her parents' wisdom in planning
a measured delivery of the inheritance.

In Galatians 4, Paul uses a similar example to illustrate Israel's situation 
as promised heirs of God's covenant with Abraham. God had made a covenant with 
Abraham to bless him, and circumcision was a sign of that promise
(see Genesis 17:1-14). However, the sign wasn't the promise. 
Abraham's descendants would await a future descendant who would fulfill it. 
Isaac was born and pointed to the future birth of a Son who would redeem 
God's people (Galatians 4:4-5).

Israel, like Abigail, had to wait until the "time set by his father" (v. 2). 
Only then could Israel take full possession of the inheritance. What they 
wanted immediately would arrive in due time with Jesus' death, burial, 
and resurrection. All who put their faith in Christ were no longer slaves 
to sin, "but God's child" (v. 7). A new covenant has been established. 
We have access to God! We can call him "Abba, Father" (v. 6).

Reflect & Pray

If you profess Jesus as Saviour, how are you no longer a slave 
to sin but a child of God? What does it mean to know Him as Father?

Loving Father, thank You for sending Your 
Son to address the sin problem of the world.

Week 6 Showing Grace to Others - Day 3 The Kind Heart of Forgiveness

Ephesians 4:32

32 (2Co 2:10; Col 3:12-13; Mt 6:12) And be kind one to another,
tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.

32 and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another,
even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Don had lost his job because he stood against his boss and refused to
compromise his Christian principles. Certain friends in the company had
turned against him, choosing to save their own jobs at any cost,
and he felt very alone, abandoned when he most needed the support
of those who cared.
But Don showed no signs of bitterness or unforgiveness. He refused to
recite the details of his firing to those around him, saying simply and
honestly, " I believe my boss was wrong in what he did. But God can show
him." The kindness of Don's heart, and the tenderness with which he
extended forgiveness, became a testimony to all who knew him. Don's
boss never "saw the light", never repented, but Don lived in the freedom of
forgiving.
Comparison is a rare commodity among Christains today. We seem to be
overstocked with judgment and crammed full of condemnation, but we have
little space in the corners of our lives for tenderheartedness. We are quick
to assume that we know another person's heart and have the remedy for
the problem, rather then giving that person the benefit of the doubt,
the room to grow, the freedom to make a mistake and seek forgiveness.
Jesus demonstrated the king compassion necessary in forgiveness when he
looked down at the soldiers who has crucified him, gambling at his feet
for his cloak, and said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what
are doing."
When others hurt and betray us, they often "do not know what they are
doing." we can, in Christ, offer compassionate forgiveness to them -
not condoning their actions or excusing their wrong, but forgiving ,
in the simplicity and purity of God's love.

Application

a) What is the difference between excusing a wrong and forgiving?

c) What does today's verse tell me about my attitude in forgiveness?

Saskatoon has seen quick growth in its Muslim population over the past
5 years, which maybe as high as 5000 today. Islamic leaders have 
focused specifically on this city , having twice already sent cohorts
of about 70 families to start mosques. There are now 7 Islamic centres
of worship and an ISlamic madrassah (school) located right next to a 
Christian school.
Of particular concern recently is the number of young adults who grew up
in evangelical churches and converted to Islam. Most of these are young
women whowere wooed by Muslim man and became emotionally bonded. 
Both prior to and after marrying, these women are known to convert to ISlam.

Agree in prayer with us for:
- entire congregations and individual believers to catch God's heart
and passion for reaching Muslims in Saskatoon and the other growing
Muslim population centres of Saskatchewan.
- for the eyes and understanding of Canadian youth to be opened to the 
  spiritual reality of Islam, and not deceived nor manipulated into
  converting to a religion which cannot offer assurance of salvation. 
- for the few workers among Muslims now engaged there, and for many more
  to be raised up into effective witness.
- for prayer and training events that are starting in Saskatoon 
  to spread and grow to other cities.

Pray for the Bihari of Bangladesh  </a>

Nadim is an Urdu speaking Bihari whose forefathers came to Dhaka, Bangladesh 
after the partition of India. Caught up in the events of political changes, 
the Biharis became an impoverished minority people group living in camps 
in Bangladesh. They are considered an unreached people group and only 
a handful of believers exist among them.

Nadim worked as a sari designer making patterns for the silk sari weaving 
cottage-industry that his people are famous for. As the fashion for wedding 
saris shifted from silk to other types, it became more and more difficult for 
him to feed his family.

One day while he was minding a friend's shop, the owner came in and threw a 
couple of books on the counter. "Look here," he said "the Christians are 
distributing their book for free on the street because of Christmas. 
I will try to make some money by selling them here." Nadim took one 
of the extra New Testaments home and started reading. From then on, he 
read every night. The more he read, the more his desire to know Christ grew.

One day he happened to meet a Christian who lived in that area. They struck up
a friendship and, over the course of a few months, Nadim heard the gospel 
clearly explained for the very first time. After embracing Jesus as his 
Saviour, he began to share about Jesus with his wife and mother-in-law. 
Soon, they came to faith as well! Over the years, Nadim has truly learned 
the path of repentance and following Jesus and now leads a small church 
in his home.

How to Pray

Pray that Biharis of Bangladesh who experience persecution 
and rejection would find their identity in Christ.

Pray for improved conditions for the hundreds of thousands 
of Biharis who live in camps in squalid conditions 
and for them to discover Jesus as their True Hope.

Pray for educational opportunities for Bihari young people, 
and for them to have hope as the they look to the future.

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .

prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for everyone,
2 (Ezr 6:10) for kings and for all who are in authority,
that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and honesty,
3(1Ti 1:1; Lk 1:47) for this is good and acceptable in the sight of
God our Savior, 4 (Eze 18:23; 18:32)who desires all men to be saved 
and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

II) Pray for the churches of the province, 
that they would be lighthouses beaming forth
the illuminating truth of God's Word.

III) Pray that the Lord would use the Finding 
the Hope Campaign and booklet to turn many hearts to Jesus

Conclusion:
