DEUTERONOMY 5

The Ten Commandments
Ex 20:1-17
1 Then Moses called all Israel and said to them: Hear, O Israel, 
the statutes and ordinances which I am speaking in your hearing today, 
so that you may learn them, and keep, and do them. 
2 (Dt 4:23) The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. 
3 The Lord did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, 
we who are living now and here today. 
4 (Dt 4:33; 34:10) The Lord talked with you face to face on the mountain 
from the midst of the fire. 
5 (Gal 3:19; Ex 19:16) I stood between the Lord and you at that time to 
declare to you the word of the Lord; for you were afraid because of 
the fire and would not go up to the mountain. He said:
6 (Ex 20:2-17) I am the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the 
land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
7 (Ex 20:3) You shall have no other gods before Me.
8 (Ex 20:4) You shall not make yourself any graven image, or any 
likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth 
beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth; 
9 (Ex 34:7; 34:14) you shall not bow down to them, nor serve them. 
For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity 
of the fathers on the children, and on the third and fourth generations 
of those who hate Me, 
10 (Jer 32:18) but showing mercy to thousands of them that love Me 
and keep My commandments.
11 (Lev 19:12; Ex 20:7) You shall not take the name of the Lord 
your God in vain, for the Lord will not exonerate anyone who 
takes His name in vain.
12 (Ex 20:8-11) Keep the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, just as the Lord 
your God has commanded you. 
13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 
14 (Heb 4:4; Ge 2:2) but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. 
On it you shall not do any work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, 
nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, 
nor your donkey, nor any of your livestock, nor the foreigner 
that is within your gates, so that your male servant
 and your female servant may rest as well as you. 
15 (Dt 15:15; 16:12) Remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt,
and that the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty 
hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore your God commanded 
you to keep the Sabbath day.
16 (Ex 20:12; Dt 4:40) Honor your father and your mother, just as the Lord 
your God has commanded you, that your days may be prolonged, 
and that it may go well with you in the land which the Lord your God 
is giving you.
17 (Ex 20:13; Mt 5:21-22) You shall not murder.
18 (Ex 20:14; Lk 18:20) You shall not commit adultery.
19 (Ex 20:15) You shall not steal.
20 (Ex 20:16; 23:1) You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.
21 (Ro 13:9; Ex 20:17) You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, 
nor shall you covet your neighbor's house, his field, his male servant, 
his female servant, his ox, his donkey, 
or anything that belongs to your neighbour.
22 (Ex 24:12; 31:18) These are the words the Lord spoke to all your assembly 
at the mountain out from the midst of the fire, the cloud, and the thick 
darkness with a great voice, and He added no more. He wrote them on 
two tablets of stone and gave them to me.
23 When you heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, while the
mountain did burn with fire, you came near to me, all the heads of your
tribes, and your elders. 
24 (Ex 19:19; Dt 4:33) You said, "See, the Lord our God has shown us 
His glory and His greatness, and we have heard His voice from
the midst of the fire. We have seen this day that God speaks with man, 
yet he lives. 
25 (Dt 18:16) Now, therefore, why should we die? For this great fire will
consume us. If we hear the voice of the Lord our God any more, 
then we will die. 
26 (Dt 4:33) For who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice 
of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, 
and lived? 
27 (Ex 20:19) Go near and hear all that the Lord our God will say. 
Then speak to us all that the Lord our God will speak to you, 
and we will hear and do it."
28 (Dt 18:17) The Lord heard the sound of your words when
you spoke to me, and the Lord said to me, 
"I have heard the sound of the words of this people 
which they have spoken to you. 
They have done well in all that they have spoken. 
29 (Isa 48:18; Dt 4:40) O that there were such a heart in them 
that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, 
that it might be well with them and with their children forever!
30 "Go say to them, 'Return to your tents.' 
31 (Gal 3:19) But as for you, stand here by Me, so that I may speak 
to you all the commandments, and the statutes, and the ordinances 
which you shall teach them, that they may keep them in the land 
which I am giving them to possess."
32 (Dt 17:20; 28:14) Therefore, be careful to do as the Lord your God 
has commanded you. You shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. 
33 (Jer 7:23; Dt 4:40; 10:12) You shall walk in all the ways which the Lord 
your  God has commanded you, so that you may live and that it may be 
well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which 
you shall possess.

[9] Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the
LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the
children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,
[10] And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my
commandments.
[11] Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD
will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
[12] Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded
thee.

[15] And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that
the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a
stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the
sabbath day.
[16] Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded
thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in
the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
[17] Thou shalt not kill.
[18] Neither shalt thou commit adultery.
[19] Neither shalt thou steal.
[20] Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.
[21] Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour's wife, neither shalt thou
covet thy neighbour's house, his field, or his manservant, or his
maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour's.
[22] These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of
the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great
voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and
delivered them unto me.
[23] And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the
darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me,
even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;
[24] And ye said, Behold, the LORD our God hath shewed us his glory and his
greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have
seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.
[25] Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us:
if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.
[26] For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living
God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?
[27] Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak
thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will
hear it, and do it.
[28] And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and
the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people,
which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have
spoken.
[29] O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and
keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with
their children for ever!
[30] Go say to them, Get you into your tents again.
[31] But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all
the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt
teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess
it.
[32] Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded
you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
[33] Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded
you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may
prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

DEUTERONOMY 6

The Greatest Commandment

1 (Dt 4:1; 5:31) Now these are the commandments, the statutes, 
and the ordinances which the Lord your God commanded to 
teach you, so that you may observe them in the land which 
you are crossing over to possess, 
2 (Ex 20:20; Ps 128:1) so that you might fear the Lord your God
 in order to keep all His statutes and His commandments which 
I command you-you, and your son, and your grandson-all the 
days of your life, so that your days may be prolonged. 
3 (Ex 3:8; Ge 15:5) Hear therefore, O Israel, and be careful to do it, 
so that it may be well with you and so that you may multiply greatly, 
as the Lord the God of your fathers has promised you in the land that 
flows with milk and honey.
4 (Jn 17:3; Isa 42:8) Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God. The Lord is one! 
5 (Mt 22:37; Mk 12:30) And you shall love the Lord your God with all 
your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 
6 (Dt 11:18; 32:46) These words, which I am commanding you today, 
shall be in your heart. 
7 (Dt 11:19; Eph 6:4) You shall teach them diligently to your children 
and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk
by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. 
8 (Ex 13:9; Dt 11:18) You shall bind them as a sign on your hand,
and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 
9 (Dt 11:20; Isa 57:8) You shall write them on the doorposts 
of your house and on your gates.
10 (Jos 24:13; Ps 105:44) Then it shall be when the Lord your God 
brings you into the land which He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, 
Isaac, and Jacob, to give you great and fine cities, 
which you did not build, 
11 and houses full of all good things which you did not fill, 
and hewn cisterns which you did not dig, vineyards 
and olive trees which you did not plant, and you eat and are full,
12 then beware lest you forget the Lord who brought you 
out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
13 (Dt 10:20; Mt 4:10) You shall fear the Lord your God 
and serve Him and shall swear by His name. 
14 (Jer 25:6; Dt 8:19) You shall not go after other gods, 
the gods of the people which surround you 
15 (Dt 4:24; Ex 20:5) (for the Lord your God is a jealous God among you). 
Otherwise the anger of the Lord your God will be inflamed against you 
and destroy you from off the face of the earth. 
16 (Ex 17:7; Mt 4:7) You shall not tempt the Lord your God, as you tempted 
Him in Massah. 
17 (Dt 11:22; Ps 119:4) You shall diligently keep the commandments 
of the Lord your God, and His testimonies and His statutes which 
He has commanded you. 
18 (Dt 4:40; 12:25) You shall do what is right and good in the sight 
of the Lord that it may be well with you and that you may go in 
and possess the good land which the Lord swore to your fathers, 
19 (Ex 23:28-30; Nu 33:52-53) to drive out all your enemies 
before you, just as the Lord has spoken.
20 (Ex 13:14; 12:26) When your son asks you in time to come, saying, 
"What do the testimonies and the statutes and the judgments mean 
which the Lord our God has commanded you?"
21 (Ex 20:2) then you shall say to your son, "We were slaves of Pharaoh 
in Egypt, and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 
22 (Dt 4:34; Ps 135:9) And the Lord showed great and devastating signs
and wonders upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household 
before our eyes. 
23 He brought us out from there, so that He might bring us in, 
to give us the land which He swore to our fathers. 
24 (Ps 41:2; Jer 32:39) The Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, 
to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that He might preserve 
us, as He has to this day. 
25 (Dt 24:13; Ro 10:3) It will be our righteousness if we are careful 
to keep all these commandments before the Lord our God, 
just as He has commanded us."

whither ye go to possess it:
[2] That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and
his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's
son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
[3] Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with
thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath
promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
[4] Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
[5] And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all
thy soul, and with all thy might.
[6] And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
[7] And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk
of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way,
and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
[8] And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be
as frontlets between thine eyes.
[9] And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
[10] And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the
land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to
give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,
[11] And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells
digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou
plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
[12] Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of
the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
[13] Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his
name.
[14] Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are
round about you;
[15] (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the
LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of
the earth.
[16] Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
[17] Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his
testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.
[18] And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the
LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess
the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,
[19] To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath
spoken.
[20] And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the
testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God
hath commanded you?
[21] Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt;
and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:
[22] And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon
Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:
[23] And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give
us the land which he sware unto our fathers.
[24] And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD
our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at
this day.
[25] And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these
commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us. 

DEUTERONOMY 7

The Chosen People

1 Dt 4:38; 31:3When the Lord your God brings you into the land which 
you are entering to possess and has driven out many nations before you, 
the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites 
and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, 
seven nations greater and mightier than you, 
2 (Dt 23:14; Ex 23:32-33) and when the Lord your God delivers them 
before you and you strike them down, then you must utterly destroy them. 
You shall make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them. 
3 (Ex 34:15-16; Jos 23:12-13) What is more, you shall not intermarry
with them. You shall not give your daughters to their sons 
or take their daughters for your sons. 
4 (Dt 6:15) For they will turn your sons away from following Me 
to serve other gods. Then the anger of the Lord will be inflamed 
against you, and He will quickly destroy you. 
5 (Ex 23:24; 34:13) But this is how you shall deal with them: 
You shall destroy their altars and break down their images 
and cut down their AsherimRebekah, Jacob's mother,
was an Aramean. and burn their graven images with fire. 
6 (Dt 14:2; Ex 19:5-6; Jer 2:3) For you are a holy people 
to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be
His special people, treasured above all peoples who are on the face
of the earth.
7 (Dt 10:22) The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose 
you because you were more in number than any of the peoples, 
for you were the fewest of all the peoples. 
8 (Ex 32:13; Dt 10:15) But it is because the Lord loved you 
and because He kept the oath which He swore to your fathers. 
The Lord brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you 
out of the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt. 
9 (Da 9:4; 1Co 1:9) Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God,
the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and mercy with them who love
Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations, 
10 (Isa 59:18; Na 1:2) yet He repays those who hate Him to their face,
to destroy them. He will not be slack with him who hates Him. 
He will repay him to his face. 
11 Therefore keep the commandments and the statutes 
and the judgments which I command you today, by doing them.
12 (Lev 26:3-13; Dt 28:1-14) If you listen to these judgments, 
keep them, and do them, then the Lord your God shall keep 
with you the covenant and the mercy which He swore to your fathers. 
13 (Jn 14:21) He will love you and bless you and multiply you. 
He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land, 
your grain, and your wine, and your oil, the increase of your herd 
and the young of your flock, in the land which 
He swore to your fathers to give you. 
14 (Ps 127:3) You shall be blessed above all peoples. 
There will not be male or female barren among you or among your livestock. 
15 (Ex 15:26; Dt 28:27) The Lord will take away from you all sickness, 
and will afflict you with none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which you know, 
but will lay them on all those who hate you. 
16 (Ex 23:33; Jdg 8:27) You must consume all the peoples whom the Lord your 
God will deliver to you. Your eye shall have no pity on them, nor shall 
you serve their gods, for that will be a snare to you.
17 (Nu 33:53) If you say in your heart, 
"These nations are greater than I-how can I dispossess them?"
18 (Ps 105:5; Dt 31:6) you shall not be afraid of them. 
You must surely remember what the Lord your God 
did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt, 
19 (Dt 4:34) the great trials which your eyes saw, and the signs, 
and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched-out arm, 
by which the Lord your God brought you out. So the Lord your God 
will do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid. 
20 (Jos 24:12) Moreover the Lord your God will send the hornet among 
them, until they who are left and hide themselves from you perish. 
21 (Dt 10:17; Jos 3:10) You must not be frightened of them, for the Lord 
your God is among you, a great and awesome God. 
22 (Ex 23:29-30) The Lord your God will drive out those nations before you, 
little by little. You will not be able to destroy them all at once, 
lest the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. 
23 But the Lord your God will deliver them to you 
and will throw them into a great confusion until they are destroyed. 
24 (Jos 23:9; Dt 11:25) He will deliver their kings into your hand
so that you may erase their names from under heaven. 
No man will be able to stand before you until you have destroyed them. 
25 (Ex 32:20; Dt 17:1) You must burn the graven images of their gods with fire.
You must not desire the silver or gold that is on them nor take any of it, 
lest you be snared by them, for it is an abomination to the Lord your God. 
26 (Dt 13:17; Lev 27:28-29) You shall not bring an abomination 
into your house, lest you become cursed like it, but you must 
absolutely detest and abhor it, for it is a cursed thing.

chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are
upon the face of the earth.
[7] The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were
more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:
[8] But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which
he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty
hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh
king of Egypt.
[9] Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which
keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments
to a thousand generations;
[10] And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will
not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.
[11] Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the
judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.
[12] Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and
keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant
and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:
[13] And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also
bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy
wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep,
in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
[14] Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or
female barren among you, or among your cattle.
[15] And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none
of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay
them upon all them that hate thee.
[16] And thou shalt consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall
deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shalt thou
serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee.
[17] If thou shalt say in thine heart, These nations are more than I; how
can I dispossess them?
[18] Thou shalt not be afraid of them: but shalt well remember what the LORD
thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt;
[19] The great temptations which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the
wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the LORD
thy God brought thee out: so shall the LORD thy God do unto all the people
of whom thou art afraid.
[20] Moreover the LORD thy God will send the hornet among them, until they
that are left, and hide themselves from thee, be destroyed.
[21] Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the LORD thy God is among
you, a mighty God and terrible.
[22] And the LORD thy God will put out those nations before thee by little
and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the
field increase upon thee.
[23] But the LORD thy God shall deliver them unto thee, and shall destroy
them with a mighty destruction, until they be destroyed.
[24] And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand, and thou shalt
destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand
before thee, until thou have destroyed them.
[25] The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not
desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou
be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.
[26] Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be
a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt
utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.

1 Corinthians 12:21-26

21 The eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you,"
nor the head to the feet, "I have no need of you."
22 No, those parts of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary.
23 And those parts of the body which we think are less honorable,
upon these we bestow more abundant honor. And our less respectable
parts are treated with much more respect,
24 whereas our more respectable parts have no need of this.
But God has composed the body, having given more abundant honour
to that part which lacks it,
25 so that there should be no division in the body,
but that the parts should have the same care for one another.
26 (Ro 12:15) If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it,
and if one part is honored, all the parts rejoice with it.

[22] Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble,

[23] And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable,

together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:
[25] That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should
have the same care one for another.

member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

Late one night, a Kenyan elephant sanctuary received a call that an elephant 
calf had fallen into a well. The rescue team arrived to cries of despair 
flooding the darkness and discovered that two-thirds of the baby's trunk 
had been lost to hyenas. Transporting the calf to their safe haven, they 
named him Long'uro, which means "something that has been cut." Though he 
possessed only one-third of his trunk, Long'uro healed and was embraced 
by the rest of the herd at the sanctuary. Elephants innately know they 
need each other, so they help each other.

In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul underscores our need to help each other within 
the body of Christ. He uses the metaphor of the human body and its individual 
parts to describe how God intends His people to welcome all gifts in all 
people because all are needed for His body to function (vv. 12-26). Then Paul 
explains how unity in diversity is accomplished. 
[24] For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body
together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:
[25] That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should
have the same care one for another.(vv. 24-25).

Whether weak or strong, fancy or common, let's help each other. 
Like the elephants, people need each other too.

Week 6 Showing Grace to Others - Day 4 "Formula" for Forgiveness

Luke 17:3 - 4

3 (Lev 19:17; Mt 18:21)"Take heed to yourselves."
"If your brother sins against you, rebuke him. And if he repents,
forgive him.
4 (Mt 18:21-22) If he sins against you seven times in a day,
and seven times in a day turns to you, saying,
'I repent,' you must forgive him."

3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him;
and if he repent, forgive him.
4 And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day,
and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent;
thou shalt forgive him.

The context of these verses give us an interesting perspective of Jesus'
disciples. In a corollary passage in Matthew 18, the disciples (through
Peter, the designated mouthpiece) ask Jesus,
21 (Mt 18:15; Lk 17:3-4) Then Peter came to Him and said,
"Lord, how often shall I forgive my brother who sins against me?
Up to seven times?" (Matthew 18:21)
The disciples wanted a "formula" for forgiveness: they wanted to be able to
develop a checklist. Once, twice, maybe three times a brother could be
forgiven, but after that, you could write him off. After all, if
he keeps on offending over and over again, he doesn't deserve to be forgiven!
But Jesus says, " Rebuke him - let him know his fault; if he repents,
forgive him - even seven times in the same day!"
And the disciplines' response is predictable: "Lord, increase our faith!" They
were more comfortable with their own formula for forgiveness than with the
outrageous demands of the love that Christ imposed upon them.
We are so like the disciples. We want to draw a line and say. "This far
- no more. I'll forgive you once, but don't do it again. Now that you're
forgiven, you'd better shape up!". Yet God's love doesn't recognise "again".
He forgives, and no matter how often we come to him in repentance
for repeated offenses, his arms of forgiveness are open to us.
That is the way God wants us to forgive. He wants us to lay aside our
checklists, put away our suspicions, abandon our scoreboards, and forgive.
Seven times, or seventy times seven, as often as we have sinned against God
and been forgiven, we are to forgive.

Application

a) Have I ever kept a "scorecard" of performance on someone I
have forgiven ? Why?

b) Why do I need "increased faith" to be able to forgive as
Jesus calls me to?

Saskatoon has seen quick growth in its Muslim population over the past
5 years, which maybe as high as 5000 today. Islamic leaders have 
focused specifically on this city , having twice already sent cohorts
of about 70 families to start mosques. There are now 7 Islamic centres
of worship and an ISlamic madrassah (school) located right next to a 
Christian school.
Of particular concern recently is the number of young adults who grew up
in evangelical churches and converted to Islam. Most of these are young
women whowere wooed by Muslim man and became emotionally bonded. 
Both prior to and after marrying, these women are known to convert to ISlam.

Agree in prayer with us for:
- entire congregations and individual believers to catch God's heart
and passion for reaching Muslims in Saskatoon and the other growing
Muslim population centres of Saskatchewan.
- for the eyes and understanding of Canadian youth to be opened to the 
  spiritual reality of Islam, and not deceived nor manipulated into
  converting to a religion which cannot offer assurance of salvation. 
- for the few workers among Muslims now engaged there, and for many more
  to be raised up into effective witness.
- for prayer and training events that are starting in Saskatoon 
  to spread and grow to other cities.

Pray for Muslims in Thailand</a>

James relaxed in his airplane seat, relieved to be heading off to a Christian 
conference and a few days of rest. As he thought about the week ahead, he 
felt God say to him: "Tell the lady sitting next to you that I know her 
and love her."

James glanced over at the young hijab-wearing Muslim lady, unsure at how to 
strike up a conversation. Culturally, it would be awkward for him, as a man, 
to start chatting with her. But he did it anyway.

"Asalaam alaikum", he greeted her. "Sorry to bother you, but I am a Christian,
and a few minutes ago, I was praying and felt God wanted to tell you that He 
sees you and knows you. And that He loves you, too."

Saripa's eyes opened wide, as she stuttered back: "You're a Christian?!? 
I have just been reading the Bible. Can you help explain it to me?"

"Yes, of course!", James said in shock, as he marveled at God's ways. 
"But where do you live? Maybe my wife can meet with you to explain more."

She proceeded to tell James that she lived in the exact city he was working 
in. And then they realised that they lived in the same neighbourhood, and, 
in fact, on the very same street! God was indeed at work in their family 
and bringing a hunger for His Word.

Later that week, James' wife reached out to Saripa and the two began 
a study of Scripture that only God could have orchestrated.

How to Pray

Pray for Thai Muslims who have an interest in Jesus but struggle to 
learn more would find Christian friends who can explain the Good News.

Pray for the growth of the church in the Southern Thai provinces 
which have of Narathiwat which have just a handful of churches.

As Jesus prayed in Matthew 9, ask God to send more workers 
to share good news and reap the harvest to come.

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .

Pray to the Lord and pray to be a witness of the Lord to those around you.

Pray to the Lord: "Dear God, please help me to understand 
the vital value of each member in the body of Christ 
and show me how to both receive and give help 
so that together we're stronger."

Pray to the Lord and pray to be a true forgiver but not keeping scorecards. 

Pray to the Lord and pray to know Him as the one you need to obey.

Pray to the Lord and pray to know Him as source of Salvation.
