Acts 19:1-7


Incomplete Faith is really

Acts 19:1-2

Ephesians Receive the Holy Spirit

1 (1Co 1:12; 16:12) While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through
the upper regions and came to Ephesus. He found some disciples
2 (Jn 7:39) and said to them, "Have you received the Holy Spirit
since you believed?"
They said to him, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

[1] And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having
passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain
disciples,
[2] He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?
And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any
Holy Ghost.

Hebrews 4:12-13

12 (Eph 6:17; Isa 49:2; Jer 23:29) For the word of God is alive, and active,
and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul
and spirit, of joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intents
of the heart.
13 (Ps 33:13-15; Job 26:6) There is no creature that is not revealed
in His sight, for all things are bare and exposed to the eyes of Him
to whom we must give account.

[12] For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any
twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit,
and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents
of the heart.
[13] Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but
all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to
do.

Hebrews 12:5-13

5 (Pr 3:11-12) And you have forgotten the exhortation addressed
to you as sons:
"My son, do not despise the discipline from the Lord,
nor grow weary when you are rebuked by Him;
6 (Rev 3:19; Ps 119:75; Pr 3:12) for whom the Lord loves He disciplines,
and scourges every son whom He receives."
7 (Pr 13:24; 19:18) Endure discipline; God is dealing with you as with sons.
For what son is there whom a father does not discipline?
8 If you are without discipline, of which everyone has partaken,
then you are illegitimate children and not sons.
9 (Nu 16:22; 27:16) Furthermore, we have had human fathers,
and they corrected us, and we gave them reverence.
Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live?
10 (2Pe 1:4) For they indeed disciplined us for a short time according
to their own judgment, but He does so for our profit, that we may partake
of His holiness.
11 (Isa 32:17; Jas 3:17-18) Now no discipline seems to be joyful at the time,
but grievous. Yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness
in those who have been trained by it.
12 (Isa 35:3; Job 4:3-4) Therefore lift up your tired hands,
and strengthen your weak knees.
13 (Gal 6:1; Pr 4:26-27) Make straight paths for your feet,
lest that which is lame go out of joint, but rather be healed.

[5] And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto
children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint
when thou art rebuked of him:
[6] For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he
receiveth.
[7] If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son
is he whom the father chasteneth not?
[8] But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are
ye bastards, and not sons.
[9] Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we
gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the
Father of spirits, and live?
[10] For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure;
but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
[11] Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous:
nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto
them which are exercised thereby.
[12] Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;
[13] And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be
turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

Jesus is the Center

Acts 19:3-4

3 (Ac 18:25; Mt 28:19) He said to them, "Into what then were you baptized?"
They said, "Into John's baptism."
4 (Jn 1:7; 1:27) Paul said, "John indeed baptized with the baptism
of repentance, telling the people that they should believe in the One
coming after him, that is, in Christ Jesus."

[3] And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said,
Unto John's baptism.
[4] Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance,
saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come
after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

John 1:6-14,29

6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John.
7 This man came as a witness in order to testify concerning the Light,
that all men through Him might believe.
8 He was not this Light, but was sent in order to testify
concerning the Light.
9 The true Light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was created through Him,
yet the world did not know Him.
11 He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him.
12 Yet to all who received Him, He gave the power to become sons of God,
to those who believed in His name,
13 who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh,
nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory,
the glory as the only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.

[7] The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all
men through him might believe.
[8] He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
[9] That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into
the world.
[10] He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world
knew him not.
[11] He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
[12] But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the
sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
[13] Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of
the will of man, but of God.
[14] And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his
glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace
and truth.

29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb
of God, who takes away the sin of the world.

[29] The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the
Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.


The Holy Spirit makes all the Difference

Acts 19:5-7

5 (Ac 8:16; 8:12) When they heard this, they were baptized in the name
of the Lord Jesus.
6 (Ac 2:4; 6:6) When Paul had laid his hands on them,
the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied.
7 There were about twelve men in all.

[5] When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
[6] And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them;
and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
[7] And all the men were about twelve.

Romans 6:3-14

Dead to Sin but Alive in Christ

3 (Mt 28:19; Gal 3:27; 1Co 12:13) Do you not know that we who were
baptised into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death?
4 (Ro 7:6; 2Co 5:17) Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death,
that just as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father,
even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 (Php 3:10-11; 2Co 4:10) For if we have been united with Him
in the likeness of His death, so shall we also be united with Him
in the likeness of His resurrection,
6 (Gal 2:20; Eph 4:22) knowing this, that our old man has been crucified
with Him, so that the body of sin might be destroyed, and we should
no longer be slaves to sin.
7 (1Pe 4:1) For the one who has died is freed from sin.
8 (2Co 13:4) Now if we died with Christ,
we believe that we shall also live with Him,
9 (Rev 1:18; Ro 5:14) knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead,
will never die again; death has no further dominion over Him.
10 For the death He died, He died to sin once for all,
but the life He lives, He lives to God.
11 (Ro 6:2; 6:13) Likewise, you also consider yourselves to be dead to sin,
but alive to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 (Ro 6:16; Ps 19:13) Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body,
that you should obey it in its lusts.
13 (Ro 7:5; 12:1) Do not yield your members to sin as instruments
of unrighteousness, but yield yourselves to God, as those who are alive
from the dead, and your bodies to God as instruments of righteousness.
14 (Ro 6:12; 8:2) For sin shall not have dominion over you,
for you are not under the law, but under grace.

Romans 6
[3] Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were
baptized into his death?
[4] Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as
Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we
also should walk in newness of life.
[5] For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we
shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
[6] Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of
sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

[8] Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with
him:
[9] Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath
no more dominion over him.
[10] For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he
liveth unto God.
[11] Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but
alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
[12] Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it
in the lusts thereof.
[13] Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto
sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead,
and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
[14] For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law,
but under grace.

Acts 2:1-6

The Coming of the Holy Spirit

1 (Ac 20:16; 1Co 16:8) When the day of Pentecost had come,
they were all together in one place.
2 (Ac 4:31; 1Ki 19:11) Suddenly a sound like a mighty rushing
wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house
where they were sitting.
3 (Mt 3:11) There appeared to them tongues as of fire,
being distributed and resting on each of them,
4 (Mk 16:17; 1Co 12:10) and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to speak.
5 (Ac 8:2; Lk 2:25) Now dwelling in Jerusalem were Jews, devout men,
from every nation under heaven.
6 When this sound occurred, the crowd came together and were confounded,
because each man heard them speaking in his own language.

[1] And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one
accord in one place.
[2] And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind,
and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
[3] And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat
upon each of them.
[4] And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with
other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
[5] And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every
nation under heaven.
[6] Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were
confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

Acts 8:14-17

Samaritans Receive the Holy Spirit

14 (Ac 8:1) Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria
had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them.
15 (Ac 2:38) When they came down, they prayed for them
that they might receive the Holy Spirit,
16 (Mt 28:19; Ac 2:38; 19:2) for still He had come on none of them.
They were only baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
17 (Ac 6:6; 9:17) Then they laid their hands on them,
and they received the Holy Spirit.

[14] Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had
received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
[15] Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive
the Holy Ghost:
[16] (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in
the name of the Lord Jesus.)
[17] Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

Acts 10:44-48

Gentiles Receive the Holy Spirit

44 (Ac 11:15; 15:8) While Peter was still speaking these words,
the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word.
45 (Ac 10:23; 2:38) All the believers of the circumcision who had come
with Peter were astonished, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been
poured out even on the Gentiles.
46 (Ac 2:4; 19:6) For they heard them speaking in other tongues
and magnifying God.
Then Peter continued,
47 (Ac 8:36) "Can anyone forbid water for baptizing these,
who have received the Holy Spirit as we have?"
48 (Ac 2:38; 8:16; 1Co 1:13-17) So he commanded them to be baptized
in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.

[44] While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them
which heard the word.
[45] And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as
came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift
of the Holy Ghost.
[46] For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered
Peter,
[47] Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have
received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
[48] And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then
prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Ephesians 5:18

18 (Eph 2:12; Gal 4:8) having their understanding darkened, excluded
from the life of God through the ignorance that is within them,
due to the hardness of their hearts.

[18] Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God
through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their
heart:

John 16:8

8 (Jn 8:46) When He comes, He will convict the world of sin
and of righteousness and of judgment:

[8] And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of
righteousness, and of judgment:

John 14:17

17 (Jn 15:26; 16:13; 1Co 2:14) the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot
receive, for it does not see Him, neither does it know Him. But you know Him,
for He lives with you, and will be in you.

[17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it
seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with
you, and shall be in you.

Rabbah Captured
(2Sa 11:1; 12:29-31)
1 (2Sa 11:1; Dt 3:11) Now at the beginning of the year when kings would go
out to war, Joab led the army and devastated the land of the Ammonites.
He came and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem.
So Joab struck Rabbah and overthrew it.
2 Then David took the crown of their king from his head
and found it weighed about a talent [About 75 pounds, or 34 kilograms.]
of gold with a precious stone set in it. And it was placed on David's head.
He also brought out a great abundance of plunder from the city.
3 He brought out the people who were it in, and put them to work with saws,
sharp iron tools, and axes. Thus David did to all the cities of the Ammonites,
and then he and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

[1] And it came to pass, that after the year was expired, at the time that
kings go out to battle, Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the
country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David
tarried at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it.
[2] And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it
to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was
set upon David's head: and he brought also exceeding much spoil out of the
city.
[3] And he brought out the people that were in it, and cut them with saws,
and with harrows of iron, and with axes. Even so dealt David with all the
cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to
Jerusalem.

Philistine Giants Killed
2Sa 21:15-22

4 (2Sa 21:18-22) Now after this, when war broke out in Gezer
with the Philistines, Sibbekai of Hushah killed Sippai,
who was one of the descendants of the giants, and they were humbled.
5 (2Sa 21:19) Again there was war with the Philistines, and Elhanan
the son of Jair killed Lahmi, the brother of Goliath the Gittite,
the shaft of whose wooden spear was like a weaver's beam.
6 Yet again there was war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature,
who had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, 24 in number;
and he also was descended from the giants.
7 (1Sa 16:9; 1Ch 2:13) When he taunted Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea,
David's brother, killed him.
8 These were descended from the giants in Gath,
and they fell by the hand of David and his servants. 

[4] And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the

2 SAMUEL 11
David and Bathsheba
1 (1Ch 20:1; 1Ki 20:22; 20:26) In the spring of the year, the time
when the kings go out to battle, David sent out Joab and his officers,
all of Israel with him. They brought to ruin the Ammonites
and besieged Rabbah, but David remained in Jerusalem.
2 (Dt 22:8; Mt 5:28) One evening when David arose from his bed
and was walking on the roof of the king's house, from the roof
he saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful.
3 (2Sa 23:39; 1Ch 3:5) So, David sent someone to inquire about the woman.
And it was asked, "Is this not Bathsheba the daughter of Eliam,
the wife of Uriah the Hittite?"
4 (Lev 18:19; Jas 1:14-15) So David sent messengers, and took her;
and she came to him, and he lay with her. When she had purified
herself from her uncleanness, she returned to her house.
5 (Dt 22:22) The woman conceived. So she sent a message
and reported to David, "I am pregnant."
6 Then David sent an order to Joab, "Send Uriah the Hittite to me."
So, Joab sent Uriah to David.
7 (Ge 37:14; 1Sa 17:22) When Uriah came to him, David asked
about the welfare of Joab, the people, and the fighting.
8 (Ge 18:4) Then David said to Uriah, "Go down to your house. Wash your feet."
So Uriah left the house of the king, and a gift from the king followed him.
9 But Uriah slept at the entrance of the house of the king with all
of the servants of his lord; he did not go down to his house.
10 When they reported to David, saying, "Uriah did not go down to his house,"
David said to Uriah, "Have you not come from a journey?
Why did you not go down to your house?"
11 (2Sa 7:2; 7:6) Uriah responded to David, "The ark, Israel, and Judah dwell
in make shift shelters. My lord Joab and the officers of my lord are camping
in the open field. But I may enter my house to eat, to drink,
and to sleep with my wife? As you live and as your soul lives,
I will not do this thing!"
12 So David said to Uriah, "Remain here another day, and I will send you back
tomorrow." Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the following day.
13 Now David invited him to eat in his presence, and he drank until he got
Uriah drunk. In the evening, he went to lie down in his lodging
with the servants of his lord, but he did not go down to his house.
14 (1Ki 21:8-10) That morning, David wrote a message to Joab
and sent it by way of Uriah.
15 (2Sa 12:9) He wrote in the message, "Send Uriah to the front of the line
where the fighting is heaviest then withdraw from him,
so that he may be struck down and die."
16 So as Joab was besieging the city, he stationed Uriah in a place
where he knew fierce men were.
17 When the men of the city came out, they fought with Joab,
and some people among those who served David fell;
Uriah the Hittite died among them.
18 Joab sent word to inform David of all of the events of the battle.
19 He instructed the messenger, "When you finish telling the king
all the details of the battle,
20 if his anger rises and he says to you, 'Why did you approach
so near to the city? Did you not know that they might shoot
from the city wall?
21 Who killed Abimelek the son of Jerub-Besheth?
Did not a woman throw an upper millstone on him from the city wall
so that he died at Thebez? Why did you approach so near to the city wall?'
You shall then say, 'Additionally your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead.' "
22 So the messenger departed and came to report to David everything that Joab
had sent with him.
23 The messenger reported to David, "The men prevailed over us
when they came out against us in the open field, but we drove them
back to the entrance of the gate.
24 Then the archers shot at your servants from upon the city wall,
and some of those who serve the king are dead.
Even your servant Uriah the Hittite died."
25 So David replied to the messenger, "Thus you shall report to Joab,
'Do not allow this thing to dismay you, for the sword devours one as well
as another. Sustain your attack against the city and bring it to ruin.'
Encourage him with this reply."
26 When the wife of Uriah heard that her husband was dead,
she mourned for her husband.
27 (2Sa 12:9; Ps 51:4-5) When the time of mourning was concluded,
David sent for her and brought her to his house. She became his wife
and bore him a son.
But the thing that David had done was displeasing to the Lord.

2 Samuel 11
[1] And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings
go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all
Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But
David tarried still at Jerusalem.
[2] And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his
bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw
a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.
[3] And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this
Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?
[4] And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and
he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned
unto her house.
[5] And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with
child.
[6] And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent
Uriah to David.
[7] And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Joab did,
and how the people did, and how the war prospered.
[8] And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And
Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of
meat from the king.
[9] But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of
his lord, and went not down to his house.
[10] And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his
house, David said unto Uriah, Camest thou not from thy journey? why then
didst thou not go down unto thine house?
[11] And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in
tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the
open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to
lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this
thing.
[12] And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I will
let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow.
[13] And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he
made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants
of his lord, but went not down to his house.
[14] And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab,
and sent it by the hand of Uriah.
[15] And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of
the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.
[16] And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned
Uriah unto a place where he knew that valiant men were.
[17] And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell
some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died
also.
[18] Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;
[19] And charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of
telling the matters of the war unto the king,
[20] And if so be that the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee,
Wherefore approached ye so nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not
that they would shoot from the wall?
[21] Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a
piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why
went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead
also.
[22] So the messenger went, and came and shewed David all that Joab had sent
him for.
[23] And the messenger said unto David, Surely the men prevailed against us,
and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the
entering of the gate.
[24] And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and some of
the king's servants be dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.
[25] Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let
not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as
another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and
encourage thou him.
[26] And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she
mourned for her husband.
[27] And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his
house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David
had done displeased the LORD.

2 SAMUEL 12
Nathan Rebukes David

1Ch 20:1-3

1 (1Ki 20:35-41) The Lord sent Nathan to David. He came to him and said,
"There were two men in a certain city. One was wealthy,
but the other was poor.
2 The wealthy man had a very large flock and herd,
3 (2Sa 11:3) but the poor man had nothing except a single small ewe lamb

2 SAMUEL 12

The Birth of Solomon

Now therefore my husband will love me."
33 She conceived again and gave birth to a son and said,
"Because the Lord has heard that I was unloved,
He has therefore given me this son also." Then she called his name Simeon.
34 She conceived again and gave birth to a son and said,
"Now this time my husband will be joined to me,
because I have borne him three sons." Therefore his name was called Levi.

"I really didn't like Mother's Day," said Donna, a mom of three. "It brought
back to me all the inadequacies and failures I felt and feel as a mother."

Donna started her parenting life with high expectations. Reality lowered 
the bar. "Being a mother was really the hardest thing I ever did," she said. 
And one particular child "pushed every button I had."

When God chose Leah to be a matriarch of Israel, no doubt she had high 
expectations for each of her children. She gave her first four sons 
names with relevance to her difficult situation (Genesis 29:32-35). 
Yet when it comes to dark stories in the Bible, these sons have 
starring roles as the bad guys. Some were guilty as murderers 
(34:24-30) and slavers (37:17-28). Leah's son Judah is the villain 
in one of the uglier accounts in Scripture (ch. 38).

How like God to bring the Messiah through 
Leah's descendants - including Judah. In the most difficult
 circumstances and through the most unexpected people, 
 God works out redemption.

Donna learned this too. As she faced all her parenting challenges, 
she never found an answer "except to keep going and keep praying." 
And that kid who pushed all her buttons? He’s grown now, and he 
loves and respects his mom. Looking back, Donna says, "Perhaps he was 
sent to me to teach me something about myself and something about my God."

Week 7 Promises of Grace - Day 1 Hard Bargain

Mark 11:24

24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray,
believe that you will receive them, and you will have them.

24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray,
believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

"I've been praying." Jennifer declared confidently. " I told God I'd give him
a tithe of that $5000000 when I win the sweepstakes."
Her friend Cindi laughed. "Well, then, you don't have a chance. I told him
I'd give him half!"
Can we, as in Mark 11:24 seems to imply , pray for anything, absolutely
anything, and expect that the Lord will come through? Can we pray with
assurance for new cars, mink coats, or trips to the Caribbean? The verse
seems to be a troublesome one, especially when we try it and our prayers
aren't answered in the way we expected.
But seen in context, Mark 11:24 gives us a much broader picture of the
kind of prayer Jesus meant. The verse appears in the framework of
Jesus' ministry - cleansing the temple, correcting the Pharisees,
commanding forgiveness, discussing his authority. The condition for
the fulfillment of Mark 11:24, if Jesus' actions are any indication,
is fulfilling the will and purpose of God.
Such a condition for powerful prayers involves much more than attaching
am "If it be Thy will" clause onto the end of our prayers. We need to know
God's will and walk in it, seeking his kingdom first, and drawing close to
him. Then , as our hearts are right with him, what we ask in prayer
is likely to be congruent with the mind and purposes of Christ. We are
less likely to pray selfishly, and more likely to share God's priorities,
as we get to know him. And as we deepen in our knowledge of him,
as his will becomes our will, his promise for answered prayer takes
on new dimensions.

Ontario has 55% of all of Canada's entire Muslim population. This means that 
the whole of the Muslim world is represented somewhere in this province. Most
Muslims are understandably located along the southern border stretching
from Windsor eastward all the way up to Ottawa. Yet Muslims are constantly 
resettling in more and more suburban and even small towns of Ontario. Mosques 
are springing up, and where there are enough gathered, Islamic schools 
are starting.
And they're not complacent, either. Many Islamic leaders are energetic in their
advancement of Islam in Canadian society. Recently in the Niagara Region,
the local mosque distributed via Canada Post as many as 50000 full-colour 
brochures on Islam. An that mosque's Facebook page proudly show pictures of 
"reverts", or white Canadians who have converted to Islam as a result of
receiving the flier and engaging with the mosque community.  Another town 
reports  Muslims going door-to-door evangelism.
Agree in prayer for:

- net network leaders - the need is great
- the development of network leadership teams
- good connections with local pastors, congregations and individuals 
  whom God is calling into this ministry.
- wisdom facilitating outreach and training activities for mobilising 
   believers
- new full and part-time workers among Muslims throughout all these areas
- for pastors and churches to respond not in fear, but full of faith and love
  towards Muslims, sharing Jesus with them.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid  celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that 
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you 
know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 :  17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; 
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, 
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants 
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. 
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below: 
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.  20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

b) Pray for the province of New Brunswick

I) Pray for the leaders of New Brunswick, that God's Spirit would influence 
then to act justly, serve with integrity and honour high moral standards.
( 1 Tim 2:1 - 4 1 Therefore I exhort first of all that you make supplications,
prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for everyone,
2 (Ezr 6:10) for kings and for all who are in authority,
that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and honesty,
3(1Ti 1:1; Lk 1:47) for this is good and acceptable in the sight of
God our Savior, 4 (Eze 18:23; 18:32)who desires all men to be saved 
and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

II) Pray for the churches of the province, 
that they would be lighthouses beaming forth
the illuminating truth of God's Word.

III) Pray that the Lord would use the Finding 
the Hope Campaign and booklet to turn many hearts to Jesus

Conclusion:

Pray to the Lord Jesus to put Him as forefront of Faith.

Pray to the Lord and pray to be humble and repentant in Power.

Pray to the Lord: "Heavenly Father, please help me 
to trust You in everything."

Pray to the Lord and pray to be neither borrower nor lender. 

Pray to the Lord and pray to know how to pray purposefully.

Pray to the Lord and pray to know that Jesus is preparing a
place for you in Heaven.

Agree in prayer for Ontario:

- get network leaders - the need is great
- the development of network leadership teams
- good connections with local pastors, congregations and individuals 
  whom God is calling into this ministry.
- wisdom facilitating outreach and training activities for mobilising 
   believers
- new full and part-time workers among Muslims throughout all these areas
- for pastors and churches to respond not in fear, but full of faith and love
  towards Muslims, sharing Jesus with them.

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people - 
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims 
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days! 

Pray continually for Sikhs to find Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

Pray a prayer of thanksgiving throughout 
the day for God's unfailing love, Mercy, compassion,
faithfulness and provision.

Pray for God's name to be glorified in your life, home, neighbourhood, 
    city or community, and your nation.

Pray for Bible translation work in Dhiveli, 
the language of the Maldivian people.

Pray to the Lord that to know the Holy Spirit.
and Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness
