Proverbs 13
1 (Pr 10:1; 15:20) A wise son heeds his father's instruction,
but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.
2 (Pr 12:14; 1:31) A man will eat well by the fruit of his mouth,
but the soul of the transgressor will eat violence.
3 (Pr 21:23; 12:13) He who guards his mouth preserves his life,
but he who opens wide his lips will have destruction.
4 (Pr 10:4; 11:25) The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing;
but the soul of the diligent will be made fat.
5 (Pr 3:35; Col 3:9) A righteous man hates lying,
but a wicked man is loathsome and comes to shame.

but wickedness overthrows the sinner.

Proverbs 14
1 (Ru 4:11) Every wise woman builds her house,
but the foolish pulls it down with her hands.
2 (Pr 28:6) He who walks in his uprightness fears the Lord,
but he who is perverse in his ways despises Him.
3 (Pr 12:6) In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride,
but the lips of the wise will preserve them.
4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean;
but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
5 (Pr 6:19; Ex 23:1) A faithful witness will not lie,
but a false witness will utter lies.
6 (Pr 8:9; 17:24) A scorner seeks wisdom and does not find it,
but knowledge is easy to him who understands.
7 Go from the presence of a foolish man,
when you do not perceive in him the lips of knowledge.
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way,
but the folly of fools is deceit.

Proverbs 15

but grievous words stir up anger.
2 (Pr 12:23; 13:16) The tongue of the wise uses knowledge aright,
but the mouth of fools pours out foolishness.
3 (Jer 16:17; Heb 4:13) The eyes of the Lord are in every place,
keeping watch on the evil and the good.
4 (Pr 3:18; 12:18) A wholesome tongue is a tree of life,
but perverseness in it crushes the spirit.
5 (Pr 10:1; 13:1) A fool despises his father's instruction,
but he who regards reproof is prudent.
6 (Pr 8:21) In the house of the righteous is much treasure,
but in the revenue of the wicked is trouble.
7 (Mt 12:34) The lips of the wise disperse knowledge,
but the heart of the foolish does not do so.

but He loves him who follows after righteousness.

and he who hates reproof will die.

so how much more the hearts of the children of men.

but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
14 The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge,

but he who is of a merry heart has a continual feast.

than great treasure with trouble.
17 (Pr 17:1) Better is a dinner of herbs where love is
than a fatted calf with hatred.
18 (Pr 26:21; 29:22) A wrathful man stirs up strife,
but he who is slow to anger appeases strife.
19 (Pr 22:5; 22:13) The way of the slothful man is as a hedge of thorns,
but the way of the righteous is made plain.
20 (Pr 10:1; 29:3) A wise son makes a father glad,
but a foolish man despises his mother.
21 (Pr 10:23; Eph 5:15) Folly is joy to him who is destitute of wisdom,
but a man of understanding walks uprightly.
22 (Pr 11:14; 20:18) Without counsel, purposes are disappointed,
but in the multitude of counselors they are established.
23 (Pr 12:14; Isa 50:4) A man has joy by the answer of his mouth,
and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!
24 (Pr 2:18; Php 3:20) The way of life leads above for the wise,
that he may depart from Sheol below.

but He will establish the border of the widow.
26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord,

but he who hates bribes will live.
28 (1Pe 3:15; Pr 15:2) The heart of the righteous studies to answer,
but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.
29 (Ps 145:18-19; Pr 15:8) The Lord is far from the wicked,
but He hears the prayer of the righteous.
30 (Pr 25:25) The light of the eyes rejoices the heart,
and a good report makes the bones healthy.
31 (Pr 15:5; 25:12) The ear that hears the reproof of life
abides among the wise.
32 He who refuses instruction despises his own soul,
but he who hears reproof gains understanding.
33 (Pr 1:7; 18:12) The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom,
and before honor is humility.

2 Corinthians 8:1-7

Liberal Giving

1 (Ac 16:9) Moreover, brothers, we want you to experience the grace of God
bestowed on the churches of Macedonia,
2 how in a great trial of affliction, the abundance of their joy and their
deep poverty overflowed toward the riches of their generous giving.
3 (1Co 16:2) For I bear record that according to their means,
and beyond their means, they freely gave,
4 (Ac 24:17; 1Co 16:3-4) begging us with much urgency that we would receive
the gift and the fellowship of ministering to the saints.
5 This they did, not as we expected. First, they gave themselves to the Lord,
and then to us by the will of God.
6 (2Co 12:18; 8:4) So we urged Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also
complete this gracious deed for you.
7 (2Co 9:8; 1Co 1:5; Ro 15:14) But as you abound in everything-in faith, in
utterance, in knowledge, in all diligence, and in your love to
us-see that you abound in this grace also.

their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.
[3] For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were
willing of themselves;
[4] Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take
upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.
[5] And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to
the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.
[6] Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also
finish in you the same grace also.
[7] Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and
knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound
in this grace also.

In his 2024 address to 1,200 university graduates, billionaire businessman 
Robert Hale Jr. said, "These trying times have heightened the need for 
sharing, caring and giving. [My wife and I] want to give you two gifts: 
The first is our gift to you, the second is the gift of giving." His words 
were followed by the distribution of two envelopes each to the unexpectant 
graduates - five hundred dollars to keep and five hundred to give away 
to a person in need.

Though Robert Hale's wealth has allowed him to share like this on more than 
one occasion, generosity isn't reserved for those with great means. Believers
in Jesus in ancient Macedonia gave out of their poverty so the needs of 
believers in Jerusalem could be met. Paul said of the Macedonians, "In the 
midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty
welled up in rich generosity" (2 Corinthians 8:2). He commends them because 
"they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely
on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing 
in this service to the Lord's people" (vv. 3-4).

Those who recognise that they've been given much grace from God through Jesus 
can respond with generous hands to the needs of others. With God's help, let's 
give after the example of the one who said, 
"It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35).

What can you offer generously to someone? 
How have you been the recipient of another's generosity?

Heavenly Father, please help me to give generously to others.

Week 2 - Saved by Grace - Day 5 - Starting Over

2 Cor 5:17

17 (Jn 3:3; Ro 16:7) Therefore, if any man is in Christ,
he is a new creature. Old things have passed away.
Look, all things have become new.

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:
old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

"The trouble with turning over a new leaf," Gordon sighed,
"is that once you've done it twice, you're right back where
you started." Gordon, in his mid-fifties, had his job
"canceled" by a company wanting to cut back on retirement payments.
Out of work, with few prospects, he said wistfully,
"I wish I had the chance to start over again."
Many of us would echo Gordon's sentiments. Whether we have lost a job,
gone through a divorce, moved to another part of the country, or
experienced some lesser crisis, we often long for the chance to
begin again, fresh, without the shadow of past mistakes following us.
God's word offers just such an opportunity. Anyone who is in Christ,
Paul says in 2 Cor 5:17, is a "new creation". For the Christian, the past
is truly past - "all things are become new". In the forgiveness
and restoration of God's grace we can leave the past behind,
with all its mistakes, and enter into new life.
And the promise is not just for the newly saved. Those of us who
have been Christians for years need to hear the truth of 2 Cor 5:17 again,
for we accumulated some "new mistakes" since we came to Christ. Anyone who
is in Christ is a new creation; the freedom of forgiveness, of
"starting over" is available to all who call upon the name of the Lord.
We cannot every really "start over" simply by establishing New Year's
resolutions or turning over a new leaf. Only God gives us that opportunity;
his grace allows us to clear away the rubble of the past and begin again.
Everything becomes new in God's loving forgiveness.

Application

There is a growing Muslim population in Quebec City and a smattering
of Muslims scattered around the rest of the province, yet the vast majority
of Muslims live in the greater Montreal area. n fact, 23% of Canada's Muslim
population live in Quebec. Why is that? It is largely because Francophone
African Muslims are attracted to La Belle Provence.
And here's an interesting, perhaps even shocking fact: There are more 
Muslims in Montreal than there are evangelical Christians. 
This is one demographic factor creates a challenging environment for churches
and believers here: The size of the available 'workforce' is small 
by comparison to begin with. Believers are already is a host culture that
is often either indifferent to religion  or resistant to it.  And now 
this 'new'  religious community of Muslims - many of whom do not visibly 
or socially conform to Quebec society - are a growing population. It might br
easy for Christians to feel overwhelm by this cultural double-whammy, 
yet God has always worked miracles through the small, the few.
Agree in prayer for :

- The people of Quebec, Muslim or otherwise, to be open to the Gospel
- for Muslims who are encountering believers and responding
-for a new group of Muslim background believers who are meeting 
together for worship!
- For pastors and believers to be full of passion, faith and vision for

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid  celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that 
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you 
know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 :  17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; 
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, 
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants 
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. 
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below: 
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.  20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
