1) Proverbs 16 , Proverbs 17, Proverbs 18

Proverbs 16
1 (Pr 19:21; 16:9) The preparations of the heart belong to man,
but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.
2 (1Sa 16:7; Pr 21:2) All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes,
but the Lord weighs the spirit.
3 (Ps 55:22; 1Pe 5:7) Commit your works to the Lord,
and your thoughts will be established.
4 (Ro 9:22; Job 21:30) The Lord has made all things for Himself,
yes, even the wicked for the day of evil.
5 (Pr 11:21; 6:16-17) Everyone who is proud in heart
is an abomination to the Lord;
be assured, he will not be unpunished.
6 (Pr 14:16; Da 4:27) By mercy and truth iniquity is purged;
and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.
7 (Ge 33:4) When a man's ways please the Lord,
He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
8 (Ps 37:16; Pr 15:16) Better is a little with righteousness
than great revenues with injustice.
9 (Jer 10:23; Ps 37:23 ) A man's heart devises his way,
but the Lord directs his steps.
10 A divine sentence is in the lips of the king;
his mouth does not transgress in judgment.
11 (Pr 11:1) A just weight and balance belong to the Lord;
all the weights of the bag are His work.
12 (Pr 25:5; 29:14) It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness,
for the throne is established by righteousness.
13 (Pr 14:35; 22:11) Righteous lips are the delight of kings,
and they love him who speaks right.
14 (Pr 19:12; 20:2) The wrath of a king is as messengers of death,
but a wise man will pacify it.
15 (Job 29:23-24; Ps 72:6) In the light of the king's countenance is life,
and his favor is as a cloud of the latter rain.
16 (Pr 8:19; 8:10-11) How much better to get wisdom than gold!
And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver!
17 (Isa 35:8) The highway of the upright is to depart from evil;
he who keeps his way preserves his soul.
18 (Pr 11:2; 18:12; Ob 1:3-4) Pride goes before destruction,
and a haughty spirit before a fall.
19 (Ex 15:9; Isa 57:15) Better it is to be of a humble spirit with the lowly
than to divide the spoil with the proud.
20 (Ps 2:12; Pr 19:8) He who handles a matter wisely will find good,
and whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he.
21 The wise in heart will be called prudent,
and the sweetness of the lips increases learning.
22 (Pr 10:11; 13:14) Understanding is a wellspring of life to him who has it,
but the instruction of fools is folly.
23 (Pr 15:28) The heart of the wise teaches his mouth,
and adds learning to his lips.
24 (Ps 19:10; Pr 4:22) Pleasant words are as a honeycomb,
sweet to the soul and health to the bones.
25 (Pr 14:12) There is a way that seems right to a man,
but its end is the way of death.
26 (Ecc 6:7) He who labors, labors for himself,
for his mouth craves it of him.
27 (Jas 3:6) An ungodly man digs up evil,
and in his lips there is as a burning fire.
28 (Pr 15:18; 17:9) A perverse man sows strife,
and a whisperer separates the best of friends.
29 A violent man entices his neighbor,
and leads him into the way that is not good.
30 He shuts his eyes to devise perverse things;
moving his lips he brings evil to pass.
31 (Pr 20:29) The gray-haired head is a crown of glory,
if it is found in the way of righteousness.
32 (Pr 14:29; 19:11) He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty,
and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
33 (Pr 29:26; Jnh 1:7) The lot is cast into the lap,
but the whole outcome is of the Lord.

31 The hoary head is a crown of glory,
If it be found in the way of righteousness.
32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty;
And he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
33 The lot is cast into the lap;
But the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD 

Proverbs 17

1 (Pr 15:17) Better is a dry morsel with quietness
than a house full of sacrifices with strife.
2 (Pr 10:5; 19:26) A wise servant will have rule over a son who causes shame,
and will have part of the inheritance among the brothers.
3 (Ps 26:2; Pr 27:21) The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold,
but the Lord tries the hearts.
4 A wicked doer gives heed to false lips,
and a liar gives ear to a wayward tongue.
5 (Job 31:29; Pr 14:31) Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker,
and he who is glad at calamities will not be unpunished.
6 Grandchildren are the crown of old men,
and the glory of children are their fathers.
7 Excellent speech is not becoming to a fool,
much less lying lips to a prince.
8 (Ex 23:8; Pr 17:23) A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him
who has it; wherever he turns, it prospers.
9 (Pr 10:12; 16:28 )He who covers a transgression seeks love,
but he who repeats a matter separates friends.
10 A reproof enters deeper into a wise man
than a hundred stripes into a fool.
11 An evil man seeks only rebellion;
therefore a cruel messenger will be sent against him.
12 (2Sa 17:8; Hos 13:8) Let a man meet a bear robbed of her cubs
rather than a fool in his folly.
13 (Ps 35:12 )Whoever rewards evil for good,
evil will not depart from his house.
14 (Pr 20:3; 25:8) The beginning of strife is as when one lets out water;
therefore abandon contention before a quarrel starts.
15 (Ex 23:7; Isa 5:23) He who justifies the wicked,

seeing he has no heart for it?

and becomes a pledge in the presence of his friend.

20 He who has a deceitful heart finds no good,
and he who has a perverse tongue falls into mischief.
21 (Pr 10:1; 19:13) He who fathers a fool does it to his sorrow,
and the father of a fool has no joy.
22 (Pr 15:13; Ps 22:15; Pr 12:25) A merry heart does good like a medicine,
but a broken spirit dries the bones.

to pervert the ways of judgment.

Proverbs 18

1 (Jude 1:19) He who separates himself seeks his own desire;
he seeks and quarrels against all wisdom.
2 A fool has no delight in understanding,
but in expressing his own heart.
3 When the wicked comes, then comes also contempt,
and with dishonor reproach.
4 (Pr 20:5) The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters,
and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.
5 (Lev 19:15; Pr 24:23) It is not good to favor the wicked,
or to turn aside the righteous in judgment.
6 A fool's lips enter into contention,
and his mouth calls for flogging.
7 (Pr 10:14; 12:13) A fool's mouth is his destruction,
and his lips are the snare of his soul.
8 (Pr 16:28) The words of a talebearer are as wounds,
and they go down into the innermost parts of the body.
9 (Pr 28:24; 10:4) He also who is slothful in his work
is brother to him who is a great waster.
10 (2Sa 22:3; Ps 18:2) The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
the righteous run into it and are safe.
11 (Pr 10:15) The rich man's wealth is his strong city,
and as a high wall in his own conceit.
12 (Pr 11:2; 15:33) Before destruction the heart of man is haughty,
and before honor is humility.
13 (Jn 7:51) He who answers a matter before he hearsit,
it is folly and shame to him.
14 (Pr 17:22; 15:13) The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity,
but a wounded spirit who can bear?
15 (Pr 15:14) The heart of the prudent gets knowledge,
and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
16 (Ge 32:20; 1Sa 25:27) A man's gift makes room for him,
and brings him before great men.
17 He who is first in his own cause seems just,
but his neighbor comes and searches him.
18 (Pr 16:33) The lot causes contentions to cease,
and keeps the mighty ones apart.
19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city,
and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
20 A man's stomach will be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth;
and with the increase of his lips will he be filled.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
and those who love it will eat its fruit.
22 (Pr 19:14; 12:4; 8:35) Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing,
and obtains favor of the Lord.
23 (Jas 2:3) The poor man uses entreaties,
but the rich man answers roughly.
24 (Pr 17:17) A man who has friends must show himself friendly,
and there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26

The Lord's Supper
Mt 26:26-29; Mk 14:22-25; Lk 22:14-20

23 (1Co 15:3; Mt 26:26-28; Mk 14:22-24) I have received of the Lord that
which I delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus, on the night in which
He was betrayed, took bread.
24 When He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take and eat.
This is My body which is broken for you. Do this in remembrance of Me."
(Mt 26:26; Mk 14:22; Lk 22:19.)
25 (Lk 22:20; 2Co 3:6) In the same manner He took the cup after He had
supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood.
Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."
(Mt 26:27-28; Mk 14:24; Lk 22:20.)
26 (Jn 21:22; 1Co 4:5) As often as you eat this bread and drink this cup,
you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.

[23] For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you,
That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
[24] And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is
my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
[25] After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying,
This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink
it, in remembrance of me.
[26] For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the
Lord's death till he come.

A seemingly plain table with thirteen simple cups divided across separate 
panels make up the contemporary painting, "That They May All Be One," which
hangs in Wolfson College at Oxford University. Its simplicity actually 
emphasises the significance of the event: Jesus' last supper with His 
disciples. The most prominent panel, containing bread and a cup 
representing Jesus, is surrounded by twelve individual panels 
to signify the disciples' presence.

The painting is a beautiful reminder of the meal where Jesus took bread 
and a cup to start a new celebration for all His followers, the practice 
of communion. And I appreciate the row of empty panels that complete 
the picture because the space seems to invite the viewer to join them 
at the table.

Paul encourages us that "whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, 
you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes" (1 Corinthians 11:26). 
Everyone who believes that Jesus' death and resurrection provides 
the way for peace with God has a space waiting for them at the table.

And when we proclaim, or remember, Jesus' sacrifice when we take 
communion, we act as one community of believers across the world 
and throughout time. It is as a beautiful image of the unity of the church.

Rom 8:1-2

Life in the Spirit

1 (1Co 1:30; 2Co 5:17) There is therefore now no condemnation
for those who are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
2 (1Co 15:45; Ro 6:18; Jn 8:32) For the law of the Spirit of life
in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.

The Spirit of God Within You
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free
from the law of sin and death.

In the classic movie, I want to live! actress Susan Hayward
plays a woman convicted of murder and sentenced to be executed.
The suspense builds; the execution is delayed as the officials
wait for a word of pardon. Finally, the woman in executed;
the call comes, and the pardon has been granted, but it is too late.
When no pardon is granted, condemnation leads to death. Our sin
marks us as "guilty" before God, and we deserve the wages of sin,
which is death. But in Jesus Christ, the pardon does come - and
it comes in time. Our sin deserves condemnation by God, and yet
he forgives us because Christ paid the penalty for us,
But we face other kinds of condemnation as well - self-condemnation,
that internal accusation that we still, somehow, must pay the price
of our own sin. Others often condemn us as well, offering much less
forgiveness and mercy than God does. And the Enemy of our souls condemns
us, trying to convince us that we don't, after all, have real freedom
from sin.
Yet Paul tells us in Romans 8, "There is therefore now no condemnation
for those who are in Christ Jesus". God has forgiven us freely; he has
granted his pardon. And in light of his forgiveness, how can we live
under the condemnation of others - or even of ourselves?
We are free, Paul says - free from the "law of sin and death,"
free to live in the liberty of the Spirit. The stay of execution
has come: the pardon has been granted. Never again can we tried
for the same crimes: never again must we live under the burden
of condemnation.

Application

a) Have I ever lived under the burden of condemnation from myself
or others? Why?

b) How can Romans 8:1-2 help me live in freedom of such condemnation?

of Muslims live in the greater Montreal area. n fact, 23% of Canada's Muslim
population live in Quebec. Why is that? It is largely because Francophone
African Muslims are attracted to La Belle Provence.
And here's an interesting, perhaps even shocking fact: There are more 
Muslims in Montreal than there are evangelical Christians. 
This is one demographic factor creates a challenging environment for churches
and believers here: The size of the available 'workforce' is small 
by comparison to begin with. Believers are already is a host culture that
is often either indifferent to religion  or resistant to it.  And now 
this 'new'  religious community of Muslims - many of whom do not visibly 
or socially conform to Quebec society - are a growing population. It might br
easy for Christians to feel overwhelm by this cultural double-whammy, 
yet God has always worked miracles through the small, the few.
Agree in prayer for :

- The people of Quebec, Muslim or otherwise, to be open to the Gospel
- for Muslims who are encountering believers and responding
-for a new group of Muslim background believers who are meeting 
together for worship!
- For pastors and believers to be full of passion, faith and vision for
  reaching Muslims in Quebec.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid  celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that 
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you 
know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 :  17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; 
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, 
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants 
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. 
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below: 
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.  20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]
