Acts 20:13-15

13 We went ahead to the ship and sailed to Assos, intending to take
Paul on board there. For he had arranged this, intending to go on foot.
14 When he met us at Assos, we took him on board and went to Mitylene.
15 (Ac 20:17; 2Ti 4:20) The day after sailing from there we arrived off
Chios. And the next day we crossed over to Samos and stayed at Trogyllium,
and the following day we came to Miletus.

[13] And we went before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, there intending to
take in Paul: for so had he appointed, minding himself to go afoot.
[14] And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene.
[15] And we sailed thence, and came the next day over against Chios; and the
next day we arrived at Samos, and tarried at Trogyllium; and the next day we
came to Miletus.

Strategic Solitude
Acts 20:16-17

16 (Ac 2:1; 19:21) Paul had decided to sail by Ephesus, to avoid spending
time in Asia. For he was hurrying so he could be in Jerusalem, if
possible, on the day of Pentecost.
17 (Ac 11:30; 14:23) From Miletus he sent to Ephesus for the elders
of the church.

[16] For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend
the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at
Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.
[17] And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the
church.

Acts 20:18-21

18 (Ac 18:19; 19:1) When they came to him, he said to them,
"You know how I always lived among you from the first day that
I came to Asia,
19 (Ac 20:3; 20:31) serving the Lord with all humility
and with many tears and trials which befell me through
the plots of the Jews.
20 (Ac 20:27; 20:31) I did not keep from declaring what was beneficial
to you, and teaching you publicly and from house to house,
21 (Ac 2:38; 11:18; 20:24) testifying to both Jews and Greeks
of repentance toward God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.


[18] And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the
first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at
all seasons,
[19] Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and
temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:
[20] And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have
shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house,
[21] Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward
God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Transparaency, Humility and Hardships
1 Thessalonians 2:8

8 (2Co 12:15; 1Jn 3:16) So having great love toward you,
we were willing to impart to you not only the gospel of God
but also our own lives, because you were dear to us.

[8] So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have
imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls,
because ye were dear unto us.

Acts 20:20-21

20 (Ac 20:27; 20:31) I did not keep from declaring what was beneficial
to you, and teaching you publicly and from house to house,
21 (Ac 2:38; 11:18; 20:24) testifying to both Jews and Greeks
of repentance toward God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

[20] And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have
shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house,
[21] Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward
God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Boldness and Consistency

Acts 20:22-24

22 "Now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing
what shall befall me there,
23 (Ac 9:16; 21:4) except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every
city that imprisonment and afflictions await me.
24 (Ac 21:13; 2Co 4:1) But none of these things deter me. Nor do I count
my life of value to myself, so that I may joyfully finish my course
and the ministry which I have received from the Lord Jesus, to testify
to the gospel of the grace of God.

[22] And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing
the things that shall befall me there:
[23] Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds
and afflictions abide me.
[24] But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto
myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I
have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

Unwaving Determination

2 Timothy 4:7

1) Proverbs 19, Proverbs 20, Proverbs 21

Proverbs 19
1 (Pr 28:6) Better is the poor who walks in his integrity
than he who is perverse in his lips and is a fool.
2 (Pr 21:5; 29:20) Also, it is not good for the soul to be without knowledge,
and he who hastens with his feet sins.
3 (Ps 37:7) The foolishness of man perverts his way,
and his heart frets against the Lord.
4 (Pr 14:20) Wealth makes many friends,
but the poor is separated from his neighbor.
5 (Pr 21:28; Ex 23:1) A false witness will not be unpunished,
and he who speaks lies will not escape.
6 (Pr 17:8; 18:16) Many will entreat the favor of the prince,
and every man is a friend to him who gives gifts.
7 (Ps 38:11; Pr 19:4 )All the brothers of the poor hate him;
how much more do his friends go far from him!
He pursues them with words,
yet they abandon him.
8 (Pr 16:20) He who gets wisdom loves his own soul;
he who keeps understanding will find good.
9 (Pr 19:5) A false witness will not be unpunished,
and he who speaks lies will perish.
10 (Pr 26:1; 30:21-22) Delight is not seemly for a fool,
much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
11 (Pr 16:32; 14:29; 15:18) The discretion of a man defers his anger,
and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

but his favor is as dew upon the grass.

nevertheless the counsel of the Lord will stand.

but every fool will be meddling.
4 (Pr 19:15; 10:4) The sluggard will not plow because of the cold;
therefore he will beg during harvest and have nothing.
5 (Pr 18:4 ) Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water,
but a man of understanding will draw it out.
6 (Ps 12:1; Lk 18:8) Most men will proclaim everyone his own goodness,
but who can find a faithful man?
7 (Ps 37:26; 112:2) The just man walks in his integrity;
his children are blessed after him.
8 (Pr 20:26; 25:5) A king who sits on the throne of judgment
scatters away all evil with his eyes.
9 (1Ki 8:46; Ecc 7:20) Who can say, "I have made my heart clean,
I am pure from my sin"?
10 (Pr 11:1; 20:23) Diverse weights and diverse measures,
both of them alike are an abomination to the Lord.
11 (Mt 7:16) Even a child is known by his doings,
whether his work is pure and whether it is right.
12 (Ps 94:9; Ex 4:11) The hearing ear and the seeing eye,
the Lord has made both of them.
13 (Pr 19:15; 6:9-11 ) Do not love sleep, lest you come to poverty;
open your eyes, and you will be satisfied with bread.
14 "It is bad, it is bad," says the buyer;
but when he has gone his way, then he boasts.
15 (Pr 3:15) There is gold and a multitude of rubies,
but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.
16 (Pr 27:13) Take the garment of him who is a pledge for a stranger,
and hold it as a security when it is for a wayward woman.
17 Bread of deceit is sweet to a man,
but afterwards his mouth will be filled with gravel.
18 (Pr 24:6; 15:22) Every purpose is established by counsel,
and with good advice wage war.
19 (Pr 11:13; Ro 16:18) He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets;
therefore do not meddle with him who flatters with his lips.
20 (Ex 21:17; Pr 30:11) Whoever curses his father or his mother,
his lamp will be put out in obscure darkness.
21 An inheritance may be gained hastily at the beginning,
but the end of it will not be blessed.
22 (Pr 24:29; 1Pe 3:9) Do not say, "I will recompense evil";
but wait on the Lord, and He will save you.

Proverbs 21

1The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord,
as the rivers of water; He turns it to any place He will.
2 (Pr 16:2; 24:12; Lk 16:15) Every way of a man is right in his own eyes,
but the Lord weighs the hearts.
3 (1Sa 15:22; Pr 15:8) To do justice and judgment
is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
4 (Pr 6:17) A high look, a proud heart,
and the plowing of the wicked are sin.
5 (Pr 10:4; 28:22) The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenty,
but of everyone who is hasty only to want.
6 (Pr 8:36; 13:11) The getting of treasures by a lying tongue
is a vanity tossed back and forth by those who seek death.
7 The violence of the wicked will destroy them,
because they refuse to do justice.
8 (Pr 2:15) The way of a guilty man is perverse;
but as for the pure, his work is right.
9 (Pr 21:19; 25:24) It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop
than with a brawling woman in a wide house.
10 The soul of the wicked desires evil;
his neighbor finds no favor in his eyes.
11 (Pr 19:25) When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise;
and when the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.
12 (Ps 37:35-36) The righteous man wisely considers the house of the wicked,
but God overthrows the wicked for their wickedness.
13 Whoever shuts his ears at the cry of the poor,
he also will cry himself, but will not be heard.
14 (Pr 18:16; 19:6) A gift in secret pacifies anger,
and a concealed bribe strong wrath.
15 (Pr 10:29) It is joy to the just to do justice,
but destruction will come to the workers of iniquity.
16 (Ps 49:14) The man who wanders out of the way of understanding
will remain in the congregation of the dead.
17 (Pr 23:21) He who loves pleasure will be a poor man;
he who loves wine and oil will not be rich.
18 (Pr 11:8) The wicked will be a ransom for the righteous,
and the transgressor for the upright.
19 (Pr 21:9) It is better to dwell in the wilderness
than with a contentious and angry woman.
20 (Ps 112:3; Mt 25:3-4) There is treasure to be desired
and oil in the dwelling of the wise,
but a foolish man squanders it.
21 (Mt 5:6; Pr 15:9) He who follows after righteousness and mercy
finds life, righteousness, and honor.
22 (Ecc 7:19) A wise man scales the city of the mighty,
and casts down the strength of its confidence.
23 (Pr 12:13; 13:3) Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue
keeps his soul from trouble.
24 (Ps 1:1; Pr 1:22) Proud and haughty-scorner is his name,
who deals in proud wrath.
25 (Pr 13:4) The desire of the slothful kills him,
for his hands refuse to labor.
26 (Ps 37:26; 112:9) He covets greedily all the day long,
but the righteous gives and does not spare.
27 (Pr 15:8; Isa 66:3) The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination;
how much more when he brings it with a wicked intent!
28 (Pr 19:5; 19:9) A false witness will perish,
but a man who listens will speak forever.
29 (Pr 11:5) A wicked man hardens his face,
but as for the upright, he directs his way.
30 (Jer 9:23; Ac 5:39) There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel
against the Lord.
31 (Isa 31:1; Ps 3:8) The horse is prepared against the day of battle,
but victory is of the Lord.

But of every one that is hasty only to want.
6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue
Is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.
7 The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them;
Because they refuse to do judgment.
8 The way of man is froward and strange:
But as for the pure, his work is right.
9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop,
Than with a brawling woman in a wide house.
10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil:
His neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.
11 When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise:
And when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.

Who dealeth in proud wrath.
25 The desire of the slothful killeth him;
For his hands refuse to labour.
26 He coveteth greedily all the day long:
But the righteous giveth and spareth not.
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination:
How much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?
28 A false witness shall perish:
But the man that heareth speaketh constantly.
29 A wicked man hardeneth his face:
But as for the upright, he directeth his way.
30 There is no wisdom nor understanding
Nor counsel against the LORD.

Acts 2:1-12

The Coming of the Holy Spirit

1 (Ac 20:16; 1Co 16:8) When the day of Pentecost had come,
they were all together in one place.
2 (Ac 4:31; 1Ki 19:11) Suddenly a sound like a mighty rushing
wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house
where they were sitting.
3 (Mt 3:11) There appeared to them tongues as of fire,
being distributed and resting on each of them,
4 (Mk 16:17; 1Co 12:10) and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to speak.
5 (Ac 8:2; Lk 2:25) Now dwelling in Jerusalem were Jews, devout men,
from every nation under heaven.
6 When this sound occurred, the crowd came together and were confounded,
because each man heard them speaking in his own language.
7 (Ac 1:11; 2:12) They were all amazed and marveled, saying to each other,
"Are not all these who are speaking Galileans?
8 How is it that we hear, each in our own native language?
9 (1Pe 1:1; Ac 16:6; 18:2) Parthians, Medes and Elamites,
residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,

Mon Dieu. Lieber Gott. Drahý Bože. Aγαπητέ Θεέ. Dear God. 
I heard French, German, Slovak, Greek, and English prayers 
echo through the central Athens church as, in unison, 
we prayed in our native languages for people in our home 
countries to hear of God's love. The beauty of the gathering 
was magnified when we realized our gathering was happening on Pentecost.

In the Old Testament, Pentecost was a harvest festival celebrated fifty days 
after the Passover festival (Leviticus 23:15-21). On the first Pentecost 
following Jesus' death and resurrection, believers gathered in Jerusalem. 
Suddenly a sound like "violent wind" came, and "what seemed to be tongues 
of fire" appeared as they were filled with the Spirit and "began to speak 
in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them" (Acts 2:2-4). Visitors from 
other nations heard "the wonders of God" in their own language (v. 11). 
Then, after Peter "addressed the crowd" (v. 14), many believed the message 
that Jesus was crucified and raised to life to offer forgiveness (vv. 22-41).

The multilingual prayers of the ministry leaders assembled in Athens reminded 
me that Peter's message heard at Pentecost continues to be shared around 
the world, and people are still responding in faith.  

Let's pray for the Spirit to empower us like the early believers 
in Jesus at Pentecost to tell of God's love. And let's pray for the message 
to be heard in every language spoken around the world.

Week 3 - Saved Now and Forever - Day 1 - Bought Back

Eph 1:7

7 (Ro 3:24; Ac 2:38; 20:28) In Him we have redemption through His blood
and the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace

[7] In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins,
according to the riches of his grace;

In the opening scenes of The Glenn Miller Story, Glenn Miller, then a
struggling musician trying to find an audience for his music, enters
a pawn shop. He has hocked his trombone for rent money, and has come
to redeem it. Paying the pawn broker the money, he buys back his own
instrument and leaves the shop, indicating that he will probably
be back again.
In Eph 1:7. Paul says that in Christ "we have redemption through
His blood and the forgiveness of sin according to the riches of His grace."
We belonged to God from the beginning; he made us and stamped
his image upon us. But through sin we were lost, pawned to the
world's system and the Enemy of our souls.
But God redeemed us; he "bought us back" with the most valuable
currency in the universe - the blood of his own Son, Jesus Christ.
He did not resent the bargain, or question whether we were worth
such a price. He freely gave Jesus in trade to ransom the souls
of the people he created and loved.
Sometimes in Christian circles we get so caught up in religious
jargon that we forget what redemption really means. Gog did not have
to "get us out of hock." He was not compelled to buy us back when we
had sold ourselves to sin. But because of his love, and with no
deserving on our part, he chose to pay an enormous price to set us free.
We are redeemed, bought back, by the One who owned us in the first place.

Application

from that sin?

There is a growing Muslim population in Quebec City and a smattering
of Muslims scattered around the rest of the province, yet the vast majority
of Muslims live in the greater Montreal area. n fact, 23% of Canada's Muslim
population live in Quebec. Why is that? It is largely because Francophone
African Muslims are attracted to La Belle Provence.
And here's an interesting, perhaps even shocking fact: There are more 
Muslims in Montreal than there are evangelical Christians. 
This is one demographic factor creates a challenging environment for churches
and believers here: The size of the available 'workforce' is small 
by comparison to begin with. Believers are already is a host culture that
is often either indifferent to religion  or resistant to it.  And now 
this 'new'  religious community of Muslims - many of whom do not visibly 
or socially conform to Quebec society - are a growing population. It might br
easy for Christians to feel overwhelm by this cultural double-whammy, 
yet God has always worked miracles through the small, the few.
Agree in prayer for :

- The people of Quebec, Muslim or otherwise, to be open to the Gospel
- for Muslims who are encountering believers and responding
-for a new group of Muslim background believers who are meeting 
together for worship!
- For pastors and believers to be full of passion, faith and vision for
  reaching Muslims in Quebec.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid  celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that 
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you 
know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 :  17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; 
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, 
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants 
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. 
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below: 
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.  20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

to the knowledge of the truth.
