1 Kings 7
Solomon's Palace Built

1 (1Ki 9:10; 2Ch 8:1) Solomon was building his own house for thirteen years,
and he finished all his house.
2 (1Ki 10:17; 2Ch 9:16( He built the House of the Forest of Lebanon.
Its length was a hundred cubits, and its width was fifty cubits,
and its height was thirty cubits, [About 150 feet long, 7
5 feet wide and 45 feet high,
or 45 meters long, 23 meters wide and 14 meters high. ]
built on four rows of cedar pillars with cedar beams upon the pillars.
3 It was covered with cedar over the top of the beams,
which sat upon 45 pillars, fifteen in a row.
4 There were window frames in three rows and window opposite
window in three tiers.
5 All the doors and posts were rectangular with the openings facing
each other in three tiers.
6 He made a porch of pillars with a length of fifty cubits
and a breadth of thirty cubits.
[About 75 feet long and 45 feet wide, or 23 meters long and 14 meters wide.]
There was a porch in front with pillars, and a canopy in front of them.
7 (Ps 122:5; Pr 20:8) Then he made a porch for the throne,
from which he would judge, and called it the Hall of Judgment.
It was covered with cedar from one side of the floor to the other.
8 (1Ki 3:1; 2Ch 8:11) His own house where he lived, in the other court back
of the hall, was similar in style. Solomon also made a house like this
for Pharaoh's daughter, whom he had taken as a wife.
9 All these were built with costly stones, cut to size and sawed
with saws on the inside and outside, from the foundation up to the coping,
throughout the outside toward the great court.
10 The foundation was of large, costly stones, stones of ten
[About 15 feet, or 4.5 meters; and in v. 23.] and 8
[About 12 feet, or 3.6 meters.] cubits in size.
11 Above were costly stones cut to size, along with cedars.
12 (1Ki 6:36) The great court was enclosed with three rows of hewed
stones and a row of cedar beams. So were the inner court of the house
of the Lord and the porch of the house.

Solomon's House

1 But Solomon was building his own house thirteen years,
and he finished all his house.
2 He built also the house of the forest of Lebanon;
the length thereof was an hundred cubits, and the breadth thereof
fifty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits,
upon four rows of cedar pillars, with cedar beams upon the pillars.
3 And it was covered with cedar above upon the beams,
that lay on forty five pillars, fifteen in a row.
4 And there were windows in three rows, and light was against
light in three ranks.
5 And all the doors and posts were square, with the windows:
and light was against light in three ranks.
6 And he made a porch of pillars; the length thereof was fifty cubits,
and the breadth thereof thirty cubits: and the porch was before them:
and the other pillars and the thick beam were before them.
7 Then he made a porch for the throne where he might judge,
even the porch of judgment: and it was covered with cedar from
one side of the floor to the other.
8 And his house where he dwelt had another court within the porch, which was
of the like work. Solomon made also an house for Pharaoh's daughter, whom he
had taken to wife, like unto this porch.
9 All these were of costly stones, according to the measures of hewed stones,
sawed with saws, within and without, even from the foundation unto the coping,
and so on the outside toward the great court.
10 And the foundation was of costly stones, even great stones, stones of ten
cubits, and stones of eight cubits.
11 And above were costly stones, after the measures of hewed stones,
and cedars.
12 And the great court round about was with three rows of hewed stones, and
a row of cedar beams, both for the inner court of the house of the LORD,
and for the porch of the house.

The Furnishings of the Temple

2Ch 4:2-5:1

13 (2Ch 4:11) Now King Solomon sent and called Huram out of Tyre.
14 (2Ch 2:14; 4:16) He was the son of a widow from the tribe of Naphtali,
and his father was a man of Tyre who worked in bronze, and he was filled
with wisdom and understanding and skill to make all sorts of items in bronze.
So he came to King Solomon and performed all his work.
15 (Jer 52:21; 1Ki 7:21) He cast two pillars of bronze
eighteen cubits high each and twelve cubits
[About 27 feet high and 18 feet in circumference,
or 8.1 meters high and 5.4 meters in circumference.]
in circumference.
16 He made two capitals of cast bronze to set on the tops of the pillars.
The height of the one capital was five cubits,
[About 15 pounds, or 6.9 kilograms; and in v. 29.]
and the height of the other capital was five cubits.
17 He made lattices of checker work with wreaths of chainwork
for the capitals on top of the pillars: seven for one capital
and seven for the other.
18 Likewise he made pomegranates in two rows around
the one latticework to cover the capital that was on the top of the pillar,
and he did the same for the other capital.
19 The capitals that were on top of the pillars in the porch were four cubits
[About 6 feet, or 1.8 meters; and in v. 38. ] high and in the shape of lilies.
20 (2Ch 3:16; 4:13) The capitals on top of the two pillars also had
pomegranates above, by the convex surface which was next to the latticework.
There were two hundred pomegranates in rows encircling each capital.
21 (2Ch 3:17; 1Ki 6:3) He set up the pillars in the porch of the temple.
He set up the right pillar and called it Jakin,
and he set up the left pillar and called it Boaz.
22 The tops of the pillars were in the shape of lilies.
This completed the work on the pillars.
23 (2Ki 25:13; 2Ch 4:2) He made a cast metal sea, ten cubits from one side
to the other. It was round and had a height of five cubits,
and a line of thirty cubits [About 45 feet, or 14 meters.] encircled it.
24 (1Ki 6:18; 2Ch 4:3) Under the brim all the way around there were gourds,
ten in a cubit. When it was cast, the gourds were placed in two rows going
all the way around it.
25 (Jer 52:20; 2Ch 4:4-5) It stood on top of twelve oxen with three facing
north, three facing toward the west, three facing toward the south,
and three facing toward the east. The sea was set on them,
and their hindquarters were turned inward.
26 (2Ch 4:5) It was a hand-breadth [About 3 inches, or 7.5 centimeters].
thick, and the brim was made similar to the brim of a cup, like a lily blossom.
It could hold two thousand baths.[About 12,000 gallons, or 44,000 liters.
27 (2Ch 4:14; 2Ki 25:13) He made ten stands out of bronze,
each measuring four cubits long, four cubits wide, and three cubits high.
[About 6 feet long and wide and 4 1/2 feet high, or 1.8 meters long
and wide and 1.4 meters high. ]
28 The work of the stands looked like this: They had panels,
and the panels were set in the frames.
29 And on the panels that were set in the frames were lions, oxen,
and cherubim. On the frames both above and below the lions and oxen,
there were wreaths of beveled work.
30 Every stand had four bronze wheels and axles of bronze,
and at the four corners were supports for a basin.
The supports were cast with wreaths at the side of each.
31 Its opening was within a crown that projected upward one cubit.
Its opening was round, like the work of a pedestal, a cubit and a half deep.
[About 2 1/4 feet, or 68 centimeters; and in v. 32.]
At its opening there were engravings, and its panels were four-sided,
not round.
32 Underneath the panels were four wheels, and the axles of the wheels
were joined to the stand, and the height of a wheel was a cubit and a half.
33 The wheels worked like chariot wheels in that their axles
and rims and spokes and hubs were all cast metal.
34 There were four supports for the four corners of each stand,
and the supports were part of one piece with the stand itself.
35 On the top of the stand, there was a round band half a cubit
[About 9 inches, or 23 centimeters.] high, and on the top of the stand
its stays and its panels were of one piece with it.
36On the surface of its stays and on its panels, he engraved cherubim,
lions, and palm trees, according to the space of each,
with wreaths all around.
37 In this way he made the ten stands, with them
all having the same shape, measure, and size.
38 Then he made ten basins of bronze, with each basin able to hold forty baths,
[About 240 gallons, or 880 liters]. each being four cubits.
Upon every one of the ten stands sat one basin.
39 He put five stands on the right side of the house,
and five on the left side of the house.
He set the sea on the right side of the house toward the southeast.
40 (2Ch 4:11-16) Huram also made the pots, the shovels, and the basins.
So Huram finished all the work in making items for King Solomon
for use in the house of the Lord: 41the two pillars, the two bowls
of the capitals that were on the top of the two pillars, the two latticeworks
to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were upon the top of the pillars;
42 (1Ki 7:20) and the four hundred pomegranates for the two latticeworks,
two rows of pomegranates for each latticework,
to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the pillars;
43 the ten stands and ten basins on the stands;
44 one sea and twelve oxen under the sea;
45Ex 27:3; 38:3the pots, the shovels, and the basins.
All these vessels that Huram made for King Solomon for the house
of the Lord were of burnished bronze.
46 (Jos 3:16; Ge 33:17) In the plain of the Jordan the king cast them,
in the clay ground between Sukkoth and Zarethan.
47 (1Ch 22:14; 22:3) Solomon left all the vessels unweighed
because there were so many. The weight of the bronze was also never measured.
48 (Ex 37:10-16; 2Ch 4:8) Solomon made all the vessels that were needed
for the house of the Lord: the altar of gold, the table of gold on
which was showbread,
49 (2Ch 4:7) the candlesticks of pure gold, five on the right side
and five on the left before the inner sanctuary; the flowers, the lamps,
and the tongs, of gold;
50 the cups, snuffers, basins, dishes for incense, fire pans, of pure gold;
the sockets for the doors of the innermost part of the house,
the Most Holy Place, and for the doors of the nave of the temple, of gold.

Temple Furniture

13 And king Solomon sent and fetched Hiram out of Tyre.
14 He was a widow's son of the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of
Tyre, a worker in brass: and he was filled with wisdom, and understanding, and
cunning to work all works in brass. And he came to king Solomon, and wrought
all his work.
15 For he cast two pillars of brass, of eighteen cubits high apiece: and
a line of twelve cubits did compass either of them about.
16 And he made two chapiters of molten brass, to set upon the tops of the
pillars: the height of the one chapiter was five cubits, and the height
of the other chapiter was five cubits:
17 and nets of checker work, and wreaths of chain work, for the chapiters
which were upon the top of the pillars; seven for the one chapiter,
and seven for the other chapiter.
18 And he made the pillars, and two rows round about upon the one network,
to cover the chapiters that were upon the top, with pomegranates:
and so did he for the other chapiter.
19 And the chapiters that were upon the top of the pillars were of lily work
in the porch, four cubits.
20 And the chapiters upon the two pillars had pomegranates also above, over
against the belly which was by the network: and the pomegranates were two
hundred in rows round about upon the other chapiter.
21 And he set up the pillars in the porch of the temple: and he set up the
right pillar, and called the name thereof Jachin: and he set up the left
pillar, and called the name thereof Boaz.
22 And upon the top of the pillars was lily work:
so was the work of the pillars finished.
23 And he made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other:
it was round all about, and his height was five cubits:
and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.
24 And under the brim of it round about there were knops compassing it,
ten in a cubit, compassing the sea round about: the knops were cast in two
rows, when it was cast.
25 It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three
looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three
looking toward the east: and the sea was set above upon them, and all their
hinder parts were inward.
26 And it was an hand breadth thick, and the brim thereof was wrought like
the brim of a cup, with flowers of lilies: it contained two thousand baths.
27 And he made ten bases of brass; four cubits was the length of one base,
and four cubits the breadth thereof, and three cubits the height of it.
28 And the work of the bases was on this manner: they had borders, and
the borders were between the ledges:
29 and on the borders that were between the ledges were lions, oxen,
and cherubims: and upon the ledges there was a base above:
and beneath the lions and oxen were certain additions made of thin work.
30 And every base had four brasen wheels, and plates of brass: and the four
corners thereof had undersetters: under the laver were undersetters molten,
at the side of every addition.
31 And the mouth of it within the chapiter and above was a cubit:
but the mouth thereof was round after the work of the base, a cubit
and an half: and also upon the mouth of it were gravings
with their borders, foursquare, not round.
32 And under the borders were four wheels; and the axletrees of the wheels
were joined to the base: and the height of a wheel was a cubit
and half a cubit.
33 And the work of the wheels was like the work of a chariot wheel:
their axletrees, and their naves, and their felloes, and their spokes,
were all molten.
34 And there were four undersetters to the four corners of one base:
and the undersetters were of the very base itself.
35 And in the top of the base was there a round compass of half
a cubit high: and on the top of the base the ledges thereof
and the borders thereof were of the same.
36 For on the plates of the ledges thereof, and on the borders thereof,
he graved cherubims, lions, and palm trees, according to the proportion
of every one, and additions round about.
37 After this manner he made the ten bases:
all of them had one casting, one measure, and one size.
38 Then made he ten lavers of brass: one laver contained forty baths: and
every laver was four cubits: and upon every one of the ten bases one laver.
39 And he put five bases on the right side of the house, and five on the
left side of the house: and he set the sea on the right side
of the house eastward over against the south.
40 And Hiram made the lavers, and the shovels, and the basons. So Hiram made
an end of doing all the work that he made king Solomon for the house
of the LORD:
41 the two pillars, and the two bowls of the chapiters that were on the top
of the two pillars; and the two networks, to cover the two bowls
of the chapiters which were upon the top of the pillars;
42 and four hundred pomegranates for the two networks, even two rows
of pomegranates for one network, to cover the two bowls of the chapiters
that were upon the pillars;
43 and the ten bases, and ten lavers on the bases;
44 and one sea, and twelve oxen under the sea;
45 and the pots, and the shovels, and the basons: and all these vessels, which
Hiram made to king Solomon for the house of the LORD, were of bright brass.
46 In the plain of Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay ground between
Succoth and Zarthan.
47 And Solomon left all the vessels unweighed, because they were exceeding
many: neither was the weight of the brass found out.
48 And Solomon made all the vessels that pertained unto the house of the LORD:
the altar of gold, and the table of gold, whereupon the shewbread was,
49 and the candlesticks of pure gold, five on the right side, and five on the
left, before the oracle, with the flowers, and the lamps,
and the tongs of gold,
50 and the bowls, and the snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and
the censers of pure gold; and the hinges of gold, both for the doors of
the inner house, the most holy place, and for the doors of the house,
to wit, of the temple.

The Dedication

51 (2Ch 5:1) All the work that King Solomon made for the house of the Lord
was completed. And Solomon brought in the things which David his father
had dedicated-the silver, the gold, and the cups-and he put them among
the treasures of the house of the Lord.

51 So was ended all the work that king Solomon made for the house of the LORD.
And Solomon brought in the things which David his father had dedicated; even
the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, did he put among the treasures
of the house of the LORD.

2 Chronicles 3:15-17

15 And he made two pillars in front of the house35 cubits
[About 53 feet, or 16 meters. high, ] with a five cubit capital on the top
of the pillar.
16 (1 Ki 7:20) Then he made ornamental chain work,
like in the Most Holy Place, and set it on the top of the pillars.
Then he designed a hundred pomegranates and set them on the chain work.
17 (1Ki 7:21) He then raised the pillars in front of the temple, with one
on the right to the south and the other on the left to the north,
and the pillar to the south he called Jakin,
and the pillar to the north he called Boaz.

15 Also he made before the house two pillars of thirty and five cubits high,
and the chapiter that was on the top of each of them was five cubits.
16 And he made chains, as in the oracle, and put them on the heads of the
pillars; and made an hundred pomegranates, and put them on the chains.
17 And he reared up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand,
and the other on the left; and called the name of that on the right hand
Jachin, and the name of that on the left Boaz.

The Furnishings of the Temple
1Ki 7:23-51
1 (1Ki 8:64; Eze 43:13-17) Then he made a bronze altar
that was twenty cubits long,
twenty cubits wide, and ten cubits (Or Abi in 2Ki 18:2.) high.
2 And he made a cast metal sea as a water basin. It was round and ten cubits
from edge to edge, five cubits high, [About 7 1/2 feet, or 2.3 meters. ]
and a line of thirty cubits [About 45 feet, or 14 meters.] measured
its circumference.
3 Figures like oxen were underneath it, going all the way around
the sea basin, ten cubits [About 18 inches, or 45 centimeters.] on each side.
Or ten oxen for a cubit. There were two rows of oxen that were poured
as cast metal.
4 It stood on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west,
three facing south, and three facing east.
The sea was set on them, and their back sides were facing inward.
5 (1Ki 7:26) The thickness of the sea was a palm, [
About 3 inches, or 7.5 centimeters. ] and its brim was like the brim of a cup,
as the flower of a lily. It held three thousand baths
[About 18,000 gallons, or 66,000 liters]. securely.
6 (1Ki 7:38; Ex 30:18-21) Then he made ten water basins,
and he set five on the southern right side and five on the northern
left side to rinse off in them the instruments of the burnt offering.
And the sea basin was for the priests to wash in.
7 (Ex 25:31-40; 1Ki 7:49) And he made ten lampstands of gold
according to the specifications, and he set them in the temple,
five on the southern, right side and five on the northern, left side.
8 (1Ki 7:48) Then he made ten tables and put them in the temple,
five on the southern, right side and five on the northern, left side;
and he made a hundred basins of gold.
9 (1Ki 6:36; 2Ki 21:5) Then he made the court of the priests
and the great enclosure and the doors for the enclosure,
and he overlaid the doors with bronze.
10 (1Ki 7:39) And he set the sea basin at the southeast side,
opposite the southern side of the house.
11 And Huram made the pots, shovels, and bowls.
So Huram completed the work that he did for King Solomon on the house of God:
12 (1Ki 7:41) the two pillars, the bowls, and the two capitals on the top
of the pillars; and the two latticeworks to cover the two bowls
of the capitals that were on the top of the pillars;
13 (1Ki 7:20) and the four hundred pomegranates for the two pieces
of grating, with two rows of pomegranates for each screen grate that covered
the two bowl-shaped capitals on top of the pillars.
14 (1Ki 7:27-43) And he made the supporting stands and the basins on top
of the stands,
15 and the sea basin and the twelve oxen underneath it;
16 (2Ch 2:13; 1Ki 7:13-14) the pots, shovels, utensils, and all the vessels
from polished bronze, Huram-Abi made for King Solomon
for the house of the Lord.
17 The king cast these vessels in the district of the Jordan in earthen
foundries between Sukkoth and Zeredatha. [Zarethan in 1Ki 7:46.]
18 (1Ki 7:47) And Solomon made all of these items in a great abundance
such that they did not consider the weight of the bronze.
19 So Solomon made all the vessels that were in the house of God:
the gold altar and the tables displaying the showbread,
20 (Ex 25:31-37; 2Ch 4:7) and the finely hammered lampstands
with their lamps to burn before the Most Holy Place as prescribed;
21 the golden flower-shaped ornaments, lamps, and tongs, of purest gold;
22 the snuffers, basins, ladles, and fire pans, of pure gold. As for
the entrance to the temple: the inner doors to the Most Holy Place
and the doors of the nave of the temple were of gold.

Temple Furniture
1 Moreover he made an altar of brass, twenty cubits the length thereof,
and twenty cubits the breadth thereof, and ten cubits the height thereof.
2 Also he made a molten sea of ten cubits from brim to brim, round in compass,
and five cubits the height thereof; and a line of thirty cubits did compass
it round about.
3 And under it was the similitude of oxen, which did compass it round about:
ten in a cubit, compassing the sea round about. Two rows of oxen were cast,
when it was cast.
4 It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking
toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward
the east: and the sea was set above upon them, and all their hinder parts were
inward.
5 And the thickness of it was an handbreadth, and the brim of it like the work
of the brim of a cup, with flowers of lilies; and it received and held three
thousand baths.
6 He made also ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five on the
left, to wash in them: such things as they offered for the burnt offering
they washed in them; but the sea was for the priests to wash in.
7 And he made ten candlesticks of gold according to their form, and set them
in the temple, five on the right hand, and five on the left.
8 He made also ten tables, and placed them in the temple, five on the right
side, and five on the left. And he made an hundred basons of gold.
9 Furthermore he made the court of the priests, and the great court,
and doors for the court, and overlaid the doors of them with brass.
10 And he set the sea on the right side of the east end,
over against the south.
11 And Huram made the pots, and the shovels, and the basons.
And Huram finished the work that he was to make for king Solomon
for the house of God;
12 to wit, the two pillars, and the pommels, and the chapiters which were
on the top of the two pillars, and the two wreaths to cover the two pommels
of the chapiters which were on the top of the pillars;
13 and four hundred pomegranates on the two wreaths; two rows of pomegranates
on each wreath, to cover the two pommels of the chapiters which were upon
the pillars.
14 He made also bases, and lavers made he upon the bases;
15 one sea, and twelve oxen under it.
16 The pots also, and the shovels, and the fleshhooks, and all their
instruments, did Huram his father make to king Solomon for the house
of the LORD of bright brass.
17 In the plain of Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay ground
between Succoth and Zeredathah.
18 Thus Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance:
for the weight of the brass could not be found out.
19 And Solomon made all the vessels that were for the house of God,
the golden altar also, and the tables whereon the shewbread was set;
20 moreover the candlesticks with their lamps, that they should burn after
the manner before the oracle, of pure gold;
21 and the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs, made he of gold,
and that perfect gold;
22 and the snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the censers, of pure
gold: and the entry of the house, the inner doors thereof for the most holy
place, and the doors of the house of the temple, were of gold.

2 Corinthians 5:1-10

1 (2Co 4:7; 2Pe 1:13-14) We know that if our earthly house, this tent,
were to be destroyed, we have an eternal building of God in the heavens,
a house not made with hands.
2 (Ro 8:23; 1Co 15:53-54) In this one we groan, earnestly desiring to be
sheltered with our house which is from heaven.
3 Thus being sheltered, we shall not be found unsheltered.
4 (1Co 15:53-54) For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened,
not because we wish to be unclothed, but to be further clothed,
so that what is mortal might be swallowed up by life.
5 (Ro 8:23; 2Co 1:22) Now He who has created us for this very thing is God,
who also has given to us the guarantee of the Spirit.
6 (Heb 11:13) Therefore we are always confident, knowing that while we are
at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord.
7 (1Co 13:12; 2Co 4:18) For we walk by faith, not by sight.
8 Instead, I say that we are confident and willing to be absent from the body
and to be present with the Lord.
9 So whether present or absent, we labor that we may be accepted by Him.
10 (Mt 16:27; Ac 10:42) For we must all appear before the judgment seat of
Christ, that each one may receive his recompense in the body, according
to what he has done, whether it was good or bad.

[1] For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved,
we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the
heavens.
[2] For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our
house which is from heaven:
[3] If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.
[4] For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for
that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be
swallowed up of life.
[5] Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath
given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.
[6] Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home
in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
[7] (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
[8] We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body,
and to be present with the Lord.
[9] Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted
of him.
[10] For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every
one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done,
whether it be good or bad.

Betty is ready. She began following Jesus as a teenager and has taken 
opportunities her whole life to serve and please Him. She attends Bible 
studies, worship services, and prayer meetings. She's taught studies, visited 
mission fields, worked in the nursery, served alongside her pastor-husband, 
and she loves being with God’s people every chance she gets. And remarkably 
she's 102 years old and is still ready to do whatever pleases God. She's an 
inspiration to many who might not feel like gathering with other believers 
some days. Then they remember, Betty will be there. I certainly can get there!
Betty now says she's eager to get to heaven to be with her Saviour. 
She says, "I'm ready to see Jesus; I love Him so."

The apostle Paul said he "would prefer to be away from the body and at home 
with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8). But he knew God had work for him to do 
in encouraging believers in many churches (Philippians 1:23-24). So he kept 
serving and living "by faith" and "not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7). 
Paul remained ready and kept serving under God’s direction.

Whatever our age and stage in life, let's ask God to help us make it our 
heart's goal "to please [Christ]" (v. 9) and stay ready. Betty is ready. 
And if someday she isn't ready, it's because she's already seeing Jesus 
face-to-face.

Week 3 - Saved Now and Forever - Day 4 - Daddy!

Romans 8:15

'For you have not received the spirit of slavery again to fear. But you have
received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, "Abba, Father." '

15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have
received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

"I've always been a Daddy's girl," Sandi said proudly, and her relationship
with her father proved it. She was never spoiled, but even as a grown woman,
Sandi maintained a closeness with her father, sharing intimately with him the
important issues of her life. And just her use of the name "Daddy" indicated
that he was, indeed a warm, approachable, affectionate man.
Many people are not so fortunate. Some fathers are stern and harsh;
others absent or uncaring, some even abusive. Few have the king of father
who presents a picture of the loving fatherhood of God.
But whatever our concept of fatherhood, God makes clear that he is everything
we always wanted our fathers to be - loving, forgiving, approachable,
totally accepting of us as we are, encouraging us to become all he has
created us to be.
In Romans 8, Paul calls God our "Abba Father". The Aramaic word for Father,
Abba, is an intimate term that might well be translated, Daddy.
God is our "Daddy," our "Abba" - not a distant, stern patriarch ready
to strike us down at the first sign of transgression, but a gentle,
loving Father who longs for us to climb into his lap and let him comfort us.
When we commit ourselves to Christ, Paul indicates, we do not receive a
"spirit of bondage to fear" but a "spirit of adoption." We are not called
to respond to God out of fear, but out of love and reverence.
We can relax and enjoy his presence, for we are his children,
and he is our loving Daddy.

Application

a) What concept of fatherhood do I have from my own experience with my father?
How does that correspond to Paul's description of God as "Daddy"?

There is a growing Muslim population in Quebec City and a smattering
of Muslims scattered around the rest of the province, yet the vast majority
of Muslims live in the greater Montreal area. n fact, 23% of Canada's Muslim
population live in Quebec. Why is that? It is largely because Francophone
African Muslims are attracted to La Belle Provence.
And here's an interesting, perhaps even shocking fact: There are more 
Muslims in Montreal than there are evangelical Christians. 
This is one demographic factor creates a challenging environment for churches
and believers here: The size of the available 'workforce' is small 
by comparison to begin with. Believers are already is a host culture that
is often either indifferent to religion  or resistant to it.  And now 
this 'new'  religious community of Muslims - many of whom do not visibly 
or socially conform to Quebec society - are a growing population. It might br
easy for Christians to feel overwhelm by this cultural double-whammy, 
yet God has always worked miracles through the small, the few.
Agree in prayer for :

- The people of Quebec, Muslim or otherwise, to be open to the Gospel
- for Muslims who are encountering believers and responding
-for a new group of Muslim background believers who are meeting 
together for worship!
- For pastors and believers to be full of passion, faith and vision for
  reaching Muslims in Quebec.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid  celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that 
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you 
know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 :  17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; 
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, 
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants 
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. 
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below: 
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.  20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

I struggled with depression, brokenness, and addiction to

prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for everyone,
2 (Ezr 6:10) for kings and for all who are in authority,
that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and honesty,
3(1Ti 1:1; Lk 1:47) for this is good and acceptable in the sight of
God our Savior, 4 (Eze 18:23; 18:32)who desires all men to be saved 
and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

II) Pray for the churches of the province, 
that they would be lighthouses beaming forth
the illuminating truth of God's Word.

III) Pray that the Lord would use the Finding 
the Hope Campaign and booklet to turn many hearts to Jesus

Conclusion:
Pray to the Lord to build your foundations in Faith.

Pray to the Lord: "Dear God, I love You with all my heart 
and want to please You in whatever ways
