spiritual rebirth. The statement that no man has ascended into heaven 
means that no human being has gone up into heaven to gain divine wisdom 
or authority on his own and then returned to reveal heavenly truth to 
men. Jesus alone descended from heaven with direct knowledge of God to 
reveal divine truth.

Compare Deuteronomy 30:12—"It is not in heaven, that you should say, 
'Who will go up for us to heaven and bring it to us, that we may hear it 
and do it?'" (Deuteronomy 30:12 ESV)
Compare Proverbs 30:4—"Who has ascended to heaven and come down? Who has 
gathered the wind in his fists? Who has wrapped up the waters in a 
garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his 
name, and what is his Son's name? Surely you know!" (Proverbs 30:4 ESV)

First Proposition: John 3:13 does not teach that no righteous person 
ever entered heaven upon death, but rather that no human being has 
ascended into heaven to obtain divine knowledge and reveal it to 
mankind; Jesus Christ alone came down from heaven with direct heavenly

Into Heaven

(1) "And as they still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and

The Bible explicitly states in plain words that Elijah went up into heaven.

Moses and Elijah appeared in glory with Jesus on the Mount of 
Transfiguration. They were alive, conscious, and participating in 
heavenly glory.

Second Proposition: Plain Scripture directly contradicts the assertion 
that no Old Testament believers entered heaven or enjoyed heavenly 
glory, explicitly declaring that Elijah went up into heaven and that 
Moses and Elijah appeared in heavenly glory.

after earthly death. God is not the God of dead men, but of living men; 
therefore, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are alive in God's presence.

The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, 
he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side."

The righteous dead were comforted in paradise immediately upon death, 
conscious and in the company of Abraham.

Third Proposition: Jesus Himself taught that Old Testament believers 
such as Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are alive and conscious in the 
presence of God.

4. The Gathering Of All Believers In The Heavenly City Through Christ

(1) "But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, 
the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, 
and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to 
God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made 
perfect." (Hebrews 12:22-23 ESV)

The Scriptures explicitly affirm that in the heavenly Jerusalem are 
gathered the spirits of the righteous made perfect.

(2) "And all these, though commended through their faith, did not 
receive what was promised, since God had provided something better for 
us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect." (Hebrews 
11:39-40 ESV)

Old Testament saints looked forward in faith to the ultimate fulfillment 
accomplished by Jesus Christ, through whose sacrifice they are perfected 
and received into heavenly glory.

Fourth Proposition: The righteous of the Old Testament are now among the 
spirits of the righteous made perfect, dwelling in the heavenly 
Jerusalem in the presence of God.

Summary

John 3:13 establishes that Christ alone has heavenly authority and 
preexistence as the source of divine revelation, not that saints are 
excluded from God's heavenly home.

The Scriptures state in plain language that saints such as Elijah went 
directly into heaven.
