Yes, retardation certainly explaines a lot. For example,
the Bible at Isa 40:22 says the earth is circular. The Hebrew word
used there is "hhug". Some Bible translators say it means "sphere".

Also at Job 26:7 it says God hanged the earth upon nothing. If you put
the two together, you get: 

A circular or spherical earth, floating in space upon nothing. How did
they know that? Space flight was still many millenniums away.
Retardation must be the answer!
