Old frontier of chills and suspense: high rise slapstick comedy

Ghost movies aren't spooky, horror movies aren't scary
and suspense movies don't give the chills, these
thrills have a vanishing quality.  Why, early this
century I got chills reading Keel's Mothman Prophesies,
and the repeat tickling of my eerie bone has left me
insensitive some time ago.  The last time I got
thrill seeking chills and suspense was slapstick
comedy on tall buildings like from Hold That Blonde! (1945)
which gave me the heebee jeebees!  Before that I saw a
silent Laurel And Hardy short on a construction site
that gave me a thrill ride.  So to me, what's changed is
the scariest movies are slapstick comedy.

Next time I should see Safety Last! (1923), which I
last saw as a little kid, just the clip with the
clock face.
