Here's One for Gary Arlington.

 Gary Arlington and his San Francisco Comic Company keep coming up in 
what I've been posting recently. He was something like the hidden force 
in the early 70s underground scene as a purveyor and sometimes publisher 
of underground comics. Above all, he was a dedicated fan who knew his 
material and what to carry. His comic book store was among the first and, 
in my opinion, always the best. Not the nicest or the slickest but he had 
all the good comics crammed into a tiny space and if you shopped there 
you got to know Gary. I certainly did, to the point of doing odd jobs for 
him. The bearded guy in the pictures at the end of Morse Funnies is Gary. 
These photos look like they are from the early 70s. I was a customer in 
the 1980s and 1990s when he was older and the beard was gone. The shop in 
these photos is incredibly spacious compared to what it was later. By 
then it was so full of comics that the customers were all crowded into a 
narrow corridor surrounded by shelves of comics. Gary was always at the 
front of the shop by the register. He lived in a flat a short distance 
away from the store and his flat was just as full of comics and magazines 
as his store along with a tribe of cats he shared his living space with. 
Gary and his store are long gone but I and others fondly remember him.
