Windows Defender getting better over the years, so why pay for AV software?

I notice Microsoft's free Windows Defender has gotten better scores in AV-compatibles over the years, and is now, instead of 80% of the commercial antiviruses, it is nearly 95%-98% from the very top. Which makes me wonder why I am paying a commercial vendor for antivirus protection? I guess maybe the browser protection (redirect stuff, preventing a malicious website from loading) might be worth it? Since I'm not sure MS Edge has that built in that's as good as the commercial companies versions? RL
