The reason I bought the remote is because the multi-selector button does not work in the direction to the right, so when I come across a menu that requires a right-press, I can’t continue, even when using the Quick button. The remote has a new battery. The problem is that when the remote is plugged in, the 8700 will power on -- the lens extends and all that -- but all displays are blank. According to page 144 of the manual, the problem could be it is “connected with Time Lapse or Movie selected for continuous" -- but even that is supposed to be an error that is displayed, and as I said, everything is blank. On page 146: If the monitor is blank, the remote is connected in standby mode. The manual (I have it in PDF) has a few ways to take it out of standby, and I think I have tried them. Any ideas? I just hope the fix does not require the right-pointing mode selector. Maybe a bad battery?
