It is tempting to at least obtain the full new-version installer, so
that one at least has it.

But does using it retain settings (i. e. pick them up from the existing
installation? (Or, by "clean install", do you mean scrub everything
anyway?) I'd hate to have to redo everything (including newsgroups).
