Doc, it’s signed by the developer. Look at the Certification path.

Best you turn off your Windows XP. I mean just check Process Explorer,
almost every Microsoft service, application, and dll is ‘actually signed
by *Microsoft*’. All this time, and you didn’t realise this?

Look, the certification authority verifies that the signee, is the
developer. Check the certificate. The exe, the developer’s identity
confirmed through a process involving a CSR, public and private keys,
and the checksum is all bound together so you know and he confirms he
compiled this application, and the checksum confirms it’s not been changed.

The bottom line here is that conventional checksums are out of date and
unnecessary if the file is signed. Bone up. This is the future you were
so scared of.

I had a thought about your JavaScript issue. I can’t bear to think of
you sitting there in fear, unable to download the few files left not
signed by Satan so how about, tada, you install Virtualbox on Debian and
install another Linux in that, and use a modern browser in that with
JavaScript turned on. Brilliant. Even Dusty would struggle to hack that.

Obviously, DON’T use Linux Mint because yunno systemd, and WORSE, a
little bird tells me Cinnamon and other distro related stuff is natively
hosted on GitHub. Yes, I was shocked. Plonk em good guys, plonk em hard!

Doc, I view trust as a judgement based upon a balance of probabilities.
Not as an act based on a hinky feeling, and blind devotion.

As always, luv ya. Hugs []
