Do it now people. Ask AI cos I forget how. It's quite easy > but sharing on by default Grr. Totally agree. That's a seriously bad thing for the authors to do. A Reddit discussion (which might be out of date, I don't know) about how to disable sharing is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/sharex/comments/hmrpeo/getting_rid_ofdisabling_all_upload_features/ There's also a link to a fork which doesn't include sharing: https://github.com/Cosebdd/ShareNot Otherwise: ___________________________________________________________________________ I asked: How do I prevent the freeware program sharex from sharing, which is on by default? Gemini replied: To permanently stop ShareX from automatically uploading or sharing your captures, you can disable the "after capture" upload tasks and lock down the application's advanced settings to ensure no data leaves your machine. Step 1: Disable "After Capture" Uploads 1. Open the main ShareX application window. 2. Click on After capture tasks from the left-hand menu. 3. Look for Upload image to host in the dropdown list. 4. If it is bold or highlighted, click it to de-select it. Ensure it is no longer highlighted, so ShareX does not send anything to the cloud automatically. Step 2: Enable the Hard "Disable Upload" Override - For absolute certainty, you can toggle a built-in switch that completely disables all upload functions within the software. 1. Open the main ShareX window and click on Application settings at the bottom left. 2. Select the Advanced tab on the left menu of the window that pops up. 3. In the filter/search bar at the top, type DisableUpload. 4. Double-click the DisableUpload setting to change its value from False to True. Step 3: Block at the Windows Firewall (Optional but Recommended) - For complete peace of mind, especially when capturing sensitive information, you can stop the ShareX executable from communicating with the internet via Windows 10 Pro: 1. Press the Windows Key, type Windows Defender Firewall, and hit Enter. 2. Click on Advanced settings in the left sidebar. 3. Select Outbound Rules, and then click New Rule... on the right side. 4. Choose Program and click Next. 5. Browse for your ShareX.exe file (typically located in C:\Program Files\ShareX). 6. Select Block the connection and click Next until the rule is named and finished. Would you like help with configuring your local save directories (to ensure screenshots are saved safely to your hard drive instead), or do you need assistance disabling the "toast" (pop-up) notifications ShareX shows after a capture? ___________________________________________________________________________ That last question was covered on the Reddit discussion link above. -- John C.
