I was curious about what OCR engine the program uses, so I asked Gemini
and got this answer:

ShareX primarily utilizes the OCR.space API and the built-in Windows OCR
framework (Windows.Media.Ocr) for its optical character recognition
features.

ShareX provides a few distinct OCR engines depending on your preferences:

Engine 1 and Engine 2 (OCR.space): These are web-based engines that
utilize cloud processing to extract text from your screenshots.
Offline OCR (Windows OCR): Starting with version 14.0, ShareX uses
native Windows APIs to perform fast, offline text extraction locally on
Windows 10 and 11.

You can easily toggle between these engines or install additional
Windows languages by navigating to Task Settings > Advanced within the
ShareX application.

Long ago (around 2014 or '15), I ratholed the "ABBYY Screenshot Reader
bonus.exe" download. I don't know if it's a setup file or a portable
application or if it requires a password though.

Agree, I've been doing this for years in order to get better OCR results.

The main reason I'd use Text Grab would be to get the text from alert
and error windows that don't allow copying.

For OCRing large documents that aren't of a private nature, I just use
Google Keep. I find that it's "Grab Text" feature is very accurate.

I really miss ABBYY Finereader 4.0, which (I'm sure you know) was a
giveaway. I was unable to reinstall it after putting W10 Pro on this
computer.
