I'm afraid whether or not a program is open source doesn't help me,
because I'm not a programmer.

If such a program simply provided me with the direct links to driver
updates from the original source, then on extremely rare occasions it
might be of use to me.

Well, like I've been saying, I've experienced way too many problems from
updating drivers. IIABDFI I say.
