Cannot delete two messages

I have set my computer to remove deleted gmail messages on exit. My Android phone is set to NOT remove deleted gmail messages on exit. Despite this I have two messages on my Xiaomi cellphone that keep coming back depite being deleted on my computer. Any (undestructive) way that I can fix this? -- Mint 20.04, kernel 5.4.0-42-generic, Cinnamon 4.6.7 running on an AMD Phenom II X4 Black edition processor with 8GB of DRAM.
